I really wanted to love this place, but the two hour wait was not worth it. I just new I was about to get fire service and fire food. I got neither. Service was horrible. So much so I never got a cup of water. The waiter was suppose to bring it several times. The host gave away our table after we were sitting in her face and she told us they were cleaning it then turned around and gave it away and was lost on what to do when I called her out about it. We finally sit, I ordered a French toast bite appetizer which was delicious. So I'm expecting great food. I always try a safe food my first time. It's a brunch spot so I just get pancakes, eggs and sausage. Thinking I can't go wrong. But I was wrong. The sausage was DRY. Very much store bought $1 pack of 8. Pancakes we hard, had no butter and I had to ask for butter, only thing decent was the egg. I left without even eating it. 98 percent of the food was left on the plate. My husband had a burger, with shoestring food lion freezer fries. I could of took the money and time I spent and cooked all that at home 100 times better. While visiting Charlotte for the Xmas holiday I wanted to find a brunch place that was open on Xmas eve. My coworker was also in town and we wanted to check out Charlotte's best brunch spots. The waitlist was 3 hours and I'm not joking I put our name on the Yelp waitlist at 10am. We arrived at 12:50pm and were next to be seated. Talk about good timing. Once seated our server greeted us immediately. I ordered the Beignets as an appetizer. The Beignets are a little on the thin side but the taste more than makes up for it. They were so good. You only get 4 but my coworker let me eat 3 lol. I could've eaten 10. I loved them! Definitely the highlight of our day. Once we placed our drink order we pretty much had decided on our food choices. I decided on the French toast bites with chicken and so did my coworker. She got hers with sauce on the side and I had mine made the regular way. The food came out rather quickly. Figured the many people waiting was a good sign that the food is worth the wait. Roman served us and did great considering it was his 4th day and 1st alone on the floor. The Seasonal Mimosa flight was great. Watermelon, Peach, Blueberry Lemon, & Berry Lavender mimosas. The Blueberry lemon mimosa was a little thick and the least favorite. All of the food was delicious. The Loaded tots were excellent. Loved the tasso cream sauce. The mixture of sweet and savory in many of the dishes we ordered was excellent. The customer service was southern hospitality at its finest, and the outdoor seating area with its large awning was perfect for a hot and sunny midday brunch. Showed up on a late Friday morning and the place was PACKED! 45-60 min wait. Luckily the bar seating is first come first served. We sat right down. There's typically a 1-2 hour waitlist on the weekends (if you get on it). I put our name on around 9:30 and our estimated wait was already 40-55 minutes. Luckily I did this at home so I finished getting ready and drove there. By the time we checked in, we waited about 10 minutes for our table outside. We got the Trifecta (Eggs Cochon, Chicken St. Charles, and Bayou Shrimp Benedicts) and Pumpkin Praline French Toast. The Benedicts were pretty good - the Bayou Shrimp was my favorite. The French Toast was just ok for me. The pumpkin flavor wasn't quite there and there were about 5 pieces of praline. The food was good, but not good enough to justify the hype. Located in a cute downtown area, Ruby Sunshine was referred to me by a few locals, all mentioning I needed to try the hot chicken and waffles. Keep in mind, parking situation here isn't ideal, so you might have to drive around a few times to find parking, so keep that in mind. I was actually lucky and found someone leaving as I was pulling in. The moment you walk in, you are instantly greeted and service was top notch. I sat at the bar and my order was taken immediately! I ordered a tropical margarita and let me tell you, it's not worth it haha you don't come here to drink, their mixed drinks weren't good at all, but I was hopeful that the chicken and waffles combo plate would make up for it...... it did not. Although I did finish it, I wasn't impressed sadly. The chicken lacked flavor and the waffles were okay, tasted like the frozen waffles sticks you buy at a grocery store sadly. WOW! What a breakfast spot. Super cute (if I can say that as a guy) and an extensive menu. Coincidentally, Ruby Sunshine is also located in Nashville, where I'm from. So I know I'll be a repeat customer when I get back home because there are so many things I want to try. I started out with a Creamy Vanilla Iced Coffee. The vanilla syrup wasn't potent and was just the right amount. I actually think it was the perfect balance of sweetness because between that and the whipped cream, I drank it pretty fast. As an appetizer, I ordered Pig Candy Bacon Bites, which are just strips of chewy bacon covered in a sweet glaze. Have you ever eaten breakfast where bacon and pancakes are involved, on the same plate? This is what you get, but better. Salty, bacon-y goodness with sweet, delicious glaze, parts of which were crystallized so it added a nice candy-like crunch. I couldn't decide on which benedict I wanted, so I got The Peacemaker which allows you to pick any two. I chose the Bayou Shrimp and Eggs Blackstone. I thought the Bayou Shrimp was just "OK". I mean I like creole, but I normally don't ever get shrimp creole because I don't like the texture of shrimp cooked in a sauce. I prefer grilled shrimp but that's not what this was. The Eggs Blackstone was a much better benedict. Bacon, a slice of tomato, hollandaise is what consisted of the Eggs Blackstone. Of course no benedict would be complete without a poached egg. The only thing I didn't care for was that their benedicts were served on a biscuit. I mean that's not bad, but I like benedicts served on an English muffin. It holds together better. The food was all really good, but the portions seemed especially small and the grits I got were very under seasoned and hard on some bites. The biscuits were delicious, the catfish perfectly cooked, and the tequila Bloody Mary was a little spicy and perfect. The service was great even if the wait was over 1.5 hours! I'm being completely honest when I say this restaurant is a victim of the typical Charlotte over-hype of mediocrity. I visited with a couple friends on a holiday Monday, meaning lots of folks had the same idea of wanting brunch on their collective day off. My friends and I had plans to meet at 11 am so I checked their online wait list around 9:00ish and it pointed to a 30 to 45 mins wait. I decided to join the wait list at 10:00 am. By that point, the estimated wait time had jumped to one to two hours. We ended up getting seated by 12:15 p.m. Here's a note about their online wait list: it's not always accurate and that is per what the hostess said that day. If you're planning on visiting on a weekend, join the wait list AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. Especially if you're planning on eating any time after 9 am. Another note, once you join the wait list, you still have to check in with the hostess when you arrive. You'll be texted when the table is almost ready and then ANOTHER text when the table is ready. You have two minutes to show up or your table is forfeited. Once we were seated, we were informed that it was Mimosa Monday ($5 mimosas except for the flights). Our group all ordered the Ruby Sunshine mimosa and we got to perusing their menu. They have seasonal specials, so be sure to ask your waiter for more info. When we visited, Peach was their seasonal fruit. We went with an order of beignets for the table. They arrived barely dusted in powdered sugar (do not expect a Cafe Du Monde experience) so we asked for more which our waitress kindly provided. She also noted that that's usually the case and something she has informed the kitchen. The beignets were fried a tad too hard and not the light, fluffy beignet I was expecting. I knew immediately I wanted eggs benedict but had a hard time deciding between two. That must be a common dilemma customers face because they have a menu option for you to order two different benedicts! I went with the eggs blackstone (tomato and bacon) and Chicken St. Charles (fried chicken). Out of the two, the chicken was my preferred choice. Unfortunately, the biscuits the eggs benedicts were on were baked too hard. Like, I could barely cut through the bottom of the biscuit to take a bite. Side note: the egg benedicts all come served on spinach which seems pointless? My friends each had issues with their own individual dishes. We were on a waitlist for 3 h from 10 am-1 pm. We showed up around 1 and we were seated shortly after. I've been wanting to visit this location since they first came to Charlotte. Very polite Hostess staff. Quentin was our server. Seemed pleasant at first. Gave us his honest opinion of things we asked about on the menu. The waiter says, What's up with these two because our guest hadn't arrived. The waiter seemed to become impatient with us waiting on our two other guests by expressing how he would order already. My Apple Pie Mimosa looked delicious but it arrived at the table with one single black particle in it. The waiter Quentin took it to his face and said, it's just puree. The French toast bits were actually pretty gross cold so I went ahead and got those taken off our bill. The rest of the food was cold to lukewarm as well, but at least was eatable. All in all the food was equivalent to a Publix deli when it had the potential to be great. I think that was the most disappointing bit. Shout out to Tasha who was a great waitress and very attentive. My friend called prior to our arrival and was told it was a 45-1 hour wait. I arrived 15 minutes later. The parking in South End is tricky, there is street parking or paid parking. I was told that my wait would be 15 minutes. There is a small waiting section with a booth and some extra chairs. The decor is cute and simple. Not too over the top and not too bland. Just right. There are booths and tables. Shortly after sitting I was told that the table was ready. Our waitress was very pleasant and gave her honest opinion when asked about certain items on the menu. I ordered hot coffee, white chocolate bread pudding pancakes and the seasonal lemon lavender beignets to go. The coffee was nothing to rave about, a classic cup of joe. I tried the blueberry & it was some kinda wonderful. Nicole also stopped by to check on me a few times.
