While visiting Charlotte for the Xmas holiday I wanted to find a brunch place that was open on Xmas eve. My coworker was also in town and we wanted to check out Charlotte's best brunch spots. I loved that this establishment is women-owned. Girl Power! So the must know about Ruby Sunshine is you should definitely know ahead of time if you plan to eat here. The waitlist was 3 hours and I'm not joking I put our name on the Yelp waitlist at 10am. We arrived at 12:50pm and were next to be seated. Talk about good timing. Once seated our server greeted us immediately. I ordered the Beignets as an appetizer. The Beignets are a little on the thin side but the taste more than makes up for it. They were so good. You only get 4 but my coworker let me eat 3 lol. I could've eaten 10. I loved them! Definitely the highlight of our day. Once we placed our drink order we pretty much had decided on our food choices. I decided on the French toast bites with chicken and so did my coworker. She got hers with sauce on the side and I had mine made the regular way. The food came out rather quickly. Not sure what I was expecting but I wasn't overjoyed with my choice. Neither was she. The chicken was nice and seasoned. I mainly ate that. The French toast bites reminded me of idk a crouton or something. It just wasn't my fave. I prob should've ordered the stuffed French toast but the server said it would've come out soggy. Lets start with the bad. The restaurant is too popular for how small it is and the wait is ridiculous. We put our party of 3 on the wait-list and headed over. We checked in and they said it would be about an hour. Two hours later we finally realized that we could just walk in and sit at the bar. Once actually seated at the bar we had a great time. The drinks are good. I was here when they had the Pride mimosa flight and not only was it pretty it was also yummy. More importantly, the food is fantastic. I had the chicken and french toast bites. The customer service was southern hospitality at its finest, and the outdoor seating area with its large awning was perfect for a hot and sunny midday brunch. Also, mind you, we had brunch on an early Tuesday afternoon, so our wait time was joyfully non existent. The Salmon omelette with goat cheese and capers, the Egg Benedicts, and the French toast bites with white meat fried chicken bites were all a hit!! FYI: Get the "peacemaker" option for the egg Benedict, so that you can order two different types of egg Benedict within an order: we chose the chicken st. charles and the catfish and grits as our two options. There's a reason why this place has such a great yelp ratings..because its a must try! Overall, highly recommend!! Showed up on a late Friday morning and the place was PACKED! 45-60 min wait. Luckily the bar seating is first come first served. We sat right down. Ordered the mix of three Benedict's and two bacon bloody Mary's. Definitely enough for two. The bennys come southern style on a half biscuit. Charlotte loves a new out of town chain and this place is the perfect demonstration of that. The whole process was a lot to go through for brunch. There's typically a 1-2 hour waitlist on the weekends (if you get on it). I put our name on around 9:30 and our estimated wait was already 40-55 minutes. Luckily I did this at home so I finished getting ready and drove there. By the time we checked in, we waited about 10 minutes for our table outside. We got the Trifecta (Eggs Cochon, Chicken St. Charles, and Bayou Shrimp Benedicts) and Pumpkin Praline French Toast. The Benedicts were pretty good - the Bayou Shrimp was my favorite. The French Toast was just ok for me. The pumpkin flavor wasn't quite there and there were about 5 pieces of praline. The food was good, but not good enough to justify the hype. Let's talk about the last dishes myself & a friend tried when we were here last . Sweet heat chicken with French toast bites , & hot smoked salmon Benedict. My dish was absolutely on point . The flavor combination won me over , the added red onions with fried capers oh my gosh . My friend said her chicken wasn't as hot as she was expecting it to be with a name like sweet heat she expected her mouth to be on fire. Onto the drinks my friend felt like being boozy so she took it upon herself to order a mimosa flight that included all types of fun flavors that she loved . I stuck to my good old faithful here which is the morning sunshine which is guaranteed to have you tipsy a little too early so be careful with this one . WOW! What a breakfast spot. Super cute (if I can say that as a guy) and an extensive menu. Coincidentally, Ruby Sunshine is also located in Nashville, where I'm from. So I know I'll be a repeat customer when I get back home because there are so many things I want to try. I started out with a Creamy Vanilla Iced Coffee. The vanilla syrup wasn't potent and was just the right amount. I actually think it was the perfect balance of sweetness because between that and the whipped cream, I drank it pretty fast. As an appetizer, I ordered Pig Candy Bacon Bites, which are just strips of chewy bacon covered in a sweet glaze. Have you ever eaten breakfast where bacon and pancakes are involved, on the same plate? This is what you get, but better. Salty, bacon-y goodness with sweet, delicious glaze, parts of which were crystallized so it added a nice candy-like crunch. I couldn't decide on which benedict I wanted, so I got The Peacemaker which allows you to pick any two. I chose the Bayou Shrimp and Eggs Blackstone. I thought the Bayou Shrimp was just "OK". I mean I like creole, but I normally don't ever get shrimp creole because I don't like the texture of shrimp cooked in a sauce. I prefer grilled shrimp but that's not what this was. The Eggs Blackstone was a much better benedict. Bacon, a slice of tomato, hollandaise is what consisted of the Eggs Blackstone. Of course no benedict would be complete without a poached egg. The only thing I didn't care for was that their benedicts were served on a biscuit. I mean that's not bad, but I like benedicts served on an English muffin. It holds together better. With the biscuit, it crumbled as I was eating it, so my plate was a complete mess by the time I was done. Like I said, Ruby Sunshine was a great spot, perfect for any breakfast lover. Visited with 3 friends while in town for a concert. Long wait after joining the waitlist online, but we found a way to occupy our time. Figured the many people waiting was a good sign that the food is worth the wait. Roman served us and did great considering it was his 4th day and 1st alone on the floor. The Seasonal Mimosa flight was great. Watermelon, Peach, Blueberry Lemon, & Berry Lavender mimosas. The Blueberry lemon mimosa was a little thick and the least favorite. All of the food was delicious. The Loaded tots were excellent. Loved the tasso cream sauce. The mixture of sweet and savory in many of the dishes we ordered was excellent. For this being my first dining visit, I couldn't have been happier. After getting recommended over and over by friends and seeing all the wonderful reviews, I had to come give it a try. Service was great and the food was even better. You can't go wrong with any option honestly. If you're feeling seafood, the hot-smoked salmon omelet is the way to go. When it comes to omelets, I'm usually a meat lover guy. But this salmon omelet did not disappoint. With a generous amount of salmon inside and fried capers on top, it is soooo good. I also tried the BBQ shrimp and grits. I'm not a huge fan of shrimp & grits. So I tried it just to get out of my comfort zone and it was just okay to me. However I know maybe for someone else would love it. Now this sweet heat chicken & French toast though.....let me give this dish it's own section. That's how good it was! As soon as I tried it, I almost stole my friends plate and kept asking if they were full. I don't know how they fry the chicken but it was to die for. It had not only the perfect crispiness but so much flavor inside as well. Then to pair it with strawberries and the honey glaze over the French toast it was so good. I am definitely coming back! I googled brunch spots and this place came up. So happy I did because everything was delish! Our server was nice and I loved the menu! The drinks are huge for the price! The only gripe I had was that they ran out of beignets and candied bacon which were the two things I really wanted! I'm being completely honest when I say this restaurant is a victim of the typical Charlotte over-hype of mediocrity. I visited with a couple friends on a holiday Monday, meaning lots of folks had the same idea of wanting brunch on their collective day off. My friends and I had plans to meet at 11 am so I checked their online wait list around 9:00ish and it pointed to a 30 to 45 mins wait. I decided to join the wait list at 10:00 am. By that point, the estimated wait time had jumped to one to two hours. We ended up getting seated by 12:15 p.m. Here's a note about their online wait list: it's not always accurate and that is per what the hostess said that day. If you're planning on visiting on a weekend, join the wait list AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. Especially if you're planning on eating any time after 9 am. Another note, once you join the wait list, you still have to check in with the hostess when you arrive. You'll be texted when the table is almost ready and then ANOTHER text when the table is ready. You have two minutes to show up or your table is forfeited. Once we were seated, we were informed that it was Mimosa Monday ($5 mimosas except for the flights). Our group all ordered the Ruby Sunshine mimosa and we got to perusing their menu. They have seasonal specials, so be sure to ask your waiter for more info. When we visited, Peach was their seasonal fruit. We went with an order of beignets for the table. They arrived barely dusted in powdered sugar (do not expect a Cafe Du Monde experience) so we asked for more which our waitress kindly provided. She also noted that that's usually the case and something she has informed the kitchen. The beignets were fried a tad too hard and not the light, fluffy beignet I was expecting. I knew immediately I wanted eggs benedict but had a hard time deciding between two. That must be a common dilemma customers face because they have a menu option for you to order two different benedicts! I went with the eggs blackstone (tomato and bacon) and Chicken St. Charles (fried chicken). Out of the two, the chicken was my preferred choice. Unfortunately, the biscuits the eggs benedicts were on were baked too hard. Like, I could barely cut through the bottom of the biscuit to take a bite. Side note: the egg benedicts all come served on spinach which seems pointless? My friends each had issues with their own individual dishes. I will say that, collectively, their pancakes were hard, almost like a frisbee. Given that our food also took a while to come out, it didn't amount to a desirable experience. We were on a waitlist for 3 h from 10 am-1 pm. We showed up around 1 and we were seated shortly after. I've been wanting to visit this location since they first came to Charlotte. Very polite Hostess staff. Quentin was our server. Seemed pleasant at first. Gave us his honest opinion of things we asked about on the menu. The waiter says, What's up with these two because our guest hadn't arrived. The waiter seemed to become impatient with us waiting on our two other guests by expressing how he would order already. Rude no one asked his opinion. The fried green tomatoes tasted like a BLT. Delicious! The Spanish omelet was really good as well as the grits and bacon. My Apple Pie Mimosa looked delicious but it arrived at the table with one single black particle in it. The waiter Quentin took it to his face and said, it's just puree. At this point with it that close to his face I never would've taken it back even if I believed a black particle was apple puree. I told him I didn't want it. He walked away. Located in a cute downtown area, Ruby Sunshine was referred to me by a few locals, all mentioning I needed to try the hot chicken and waffles. Keep in mind, parking situation here isn't ideal, so you might have to drive around a few times to find parking, so keep that in mind. I was actually lucky and found someone leaving as I was pulling in. The moment you walk in, you are instantly greeted and service was top notch. I sat at the bar and my order was taken immediately! I ordered a tropical margarita and let me tell you, it's not worth it haha you don't come here to drink, their mixed drinks weren't good at all, but I was hopeful that the chicken and waffles combo plate would make up for it...... it did not. Although I did finish it, I wasn't impressed sadly. The chicken lacked flavor and the waffles were okay, tasted like the frozen waffles sticks you buy at a grocery store sadly. But she definitely had a attitude and wasn't the usual "peppy" I'm used to coming in here. Sat us in the back where there was a dirty booth that literally stayed full of plates...Come to find out it was for a different server but my server (Q) went out of his way to clean it and I actually thought that was noble B of him to help out his fellow server. First time I came here it was quite a wait so I decided to go another time. This time I joined the waitlist online. I came at the designated time and had to wait maybe ten minutes longer. It was quite busy and because it was cold no one wanted to really sit outside. Inside is already small so it made sense why there was a wait. The waitress was amazing. She gave really nice suggestions. The fried green tomatoes was a great way to start lunch. Each bite was flavorful. I couldn't decide on the Benedict so the trifecta came in handy. I get it, don't want it to stick when cooking, but holy moly, this baby was drenched and needed to be sopped up from the pool of oil it was sitting in. The pancakes or other items are far less "risky" so stick with those. The only reason we didn't go full creole yumminess is the fact that they were out of shrimp first thing in the morning. There was a waiter walking so fast on our way out that he spilled hot coffee and ice water on my child and simply walked away. Stopped by on 10-11-21 since I was off from work. So glad I did. A friend recommended w/a warning about wait time. I didn't have to wait too long before being seated, but the time from when I entered to the time I had my food was just under an hour. The food was good & it didn't help that I was hungry. I'm not the biggest pumpkin fan, but I went with the pumpkin praline stuffed French toast. It came with bacon & I added a scrambled egg. Food came out hot & delicious. Popped into Ruby Sunshine while on a mini-vacation in Charlotte for a final day brunch. Our group nestled into a nice spot on the outside patio. I read some reviews about the wait time, but for our group it was only around 20 or so minutes. Took advantage of the bird scooters around. I'll start off by saying all of the food was amazing. For starters we ordered a round of appetizers. Beignets, french toast bites and fried tomatoes. All to die for. The main was this interesting BBQ Shrimp & Grits. Very different from the flavor profile I'm accustomed to. (In a good way) savory but not too salty. Have to give applause to the staff as well. We had two servers who helped with selecting food, making sure the table was attended to, and just all around great folks to talked to.
