Went for an early dinner. Decided to get a reservation and I'm glad I did. We arrived at 5:10 for a 5:15 reservation and we were seated right away. The hostess was polite and Amber, or server was super sweet. The eating space was quiet and pleasant. It appears they have covered outdoor seating which might be pleasant on a mild day. It was 82 degrees out on the day we went and I was happy to be inside. I ordered the 12 oz. filet mignon and she ordered the seafood melt. Both dishes were hot and looked good upon arrival. The filet was cooked perfectly. The flavors were delightful. This is not a cheap place to eat, but as the adage goes, you get what you pay for. The quality was outstanding. My wife, who has a sweet tooth, anytime of the day, thoroughly enjoyed her Apple Cinnamon French Toast. It was all hands on deck for service. GNO started with happy hour on the patio at Rudy's. The weather was perfect, the atmosphere on the patio was nice with the linen table clothes and sound of water from a nearby fountain, our server was efficient and friendly and the food was bomb! From the happy hour menu I ordered the steak bites (Santa Fe) $14 the wedge salad $12 and a side of fries $4 (just to try them!). The steak bites were in a delicious gravy, the wedge salad was fresh and delicious and the fries were just okay. No big deal. Wouldn't order those again. The restaurant serves bread and butter to the table so that was also a nice addition to the meal. I highly recommend Rudy's happy hour! Been here a few times with different sizes groups. Most recent was Friday evening at 5pm. The resturant was packed and seemed to get busier(makes sense as it is Friday night) so plan to have a reservation or wait some time. We came with a group of 5 and took about an hour for the food to come out but it did come out all together. Ambiance: awesome-- so cozy upon entrance. Fire places and candles were the flavor of the restaurant-- cute. Service: the service was great! Everyone was fantastically charming and appeared to be genuine. Our waiter had lots of personality, demonstrated knowledge, and offered the exact amount of concern for our table; he couldn't have been better. Food: the food is the only reason I'm holding back the fifth star. I didn't have any appetizers so I don't have those to rate; however, I did have the salmon, and it was cooked exactly how I like it, nonetheless, I asked for double the veggies vs the potatoes, and the plate was a tad small in portion. On the other hand, my hubs and coworker enjoyed the stuffed salmon, and they mentioned that "it was nothing to write home about and it all could've been hotter. Word was that the mashed potatoes were room temperature and just okay. Lastly was the clam chowder--again, not hot and a tad stiffer than preferred. Rudy's is a place that I'd most likely visit again if I were in town because 1) there's not a whole lot in Salem, 2) great overall experience. However, they just need to tighten up the kitchen or get runners to bring the food out as soon as it's ready. The question is, should you try them out? Yes. This is our favorite place for anniversary dinners and special date nights. You certainly get what you pay for so it's always a very high quality dinner with great service. We love the lighting and the location and makes for a great gem in Salem OR. Service is always pretty quick and the drinks are done perfectly as well. If we want a quiet night we will sit at a table, if we are feeling a bit more relaxed and casual we will head for bar seating which is usually always full because it's definitely some good vibes in there. read more

The Brussel sprouts were good but I hated the fact they added blue cheese crumbles (yuck). I scraped them off. Cons: the food took over an hour to come to us over lunch. We were a party of 4 for Christmas Eve and we chose Rudy's because we wanted some holiday ambience with our meal. We had the filet, chicken marsala, salmon with lobster sauce and crab cakes, respectively. 3 of us had the caesar salad and one had the beef chili soup. The salad was very tasty, one of the best caesar dressings I've had in years and came with freshly shaved parmesan. The guest who had the soup really enjoyed it. The food was perfectly cooked, from the salmon to the filet of beef, absolutely delicious! Making small changes to the menu to accommodate personal tastes was not an issue. The cocktails were fun. Our First time at Rudy's and we were very pleased with everything on a Sunday evening at 6:15 reservation. My husband and I don't go out to eat very often so I must say we were a little surprised at the prices. But, our food was definitely enjoyable. The service was first class. Evan was amazing. I loved the ambience of the restaurant. I ordered the chicken marsala, and one chicken breast was more than enough along with the asparagus and baked potato and freshly baked bread. Visiting from out of state, we were looking for a steakhouse. There weren't a lot to choose from, but Rudy's looked good to us. Well.... My wife had the Prime Rib. It looked delicious when they brought it out, but it was tough and dry. We told the waitress about it and she offered to replace it, but they were out of Prime Rib. How does a steakhouse run out of prime rib before 7:00 in the evening. She ordered a steak to replace it and they offered to give her a free dessert. When she ordered the ice cream sundae, she was told that they were out of whipped cream (her favorite part of the sundae). I had the lamb chops. They were properly cooked and tender, but there was so much pepper on them it was difficult to eat. The place was beautiful and the service was good, but the food would cause me to not want to return, if we ever are back in the area. read more

We took our Mother to Rudy's for her 94th, 95th and 96th birthday as she used to be a regular patron going there once a week. It took an hour and a half to receive our food! In general, Salem is the worst city for dining options and I've lived all over this country. But, I assumed that being the capital city, they must have a high end option for state leadership meetings, etc. Thought this could be it, based on prices. So, went here for our 32nd wedding anniversary. The food was very, very average, cocktails were mediocre, carpet was filthy, and wait staff was dressed in wrinkled, food covered clothing. They were nice, no complaints about how we were treated, just did not expect Applebees service and food for steakhouse prices. Food was fine, just not special and way overpriced for the experience. I am giving them 2 stars for this experience because we had issues and our waitress did not care. 1. My bread plate was dirty and I noticed this the second we sat down. I checked to see if it was a stain but no it was a chunk of food. She quickly grabbed my plat but did not apologize. 2. She never replaced the plate and never brought us our bread. We had to ask a separate person for our bread AFTER we were done eating our salad! 3. My daughters glass was completely shattered. We thought maybe it was a strange design but nope I noted it was crumbling inside and around the bottom. Again I pointed this out and she acted as though we were just making a fuss. Very nice place, loved the atmosphere. We were seated at a nice cozy table by the glass fire pit. Service welcoming as we were a few minutes late(called). Seated a few minutes. Price was to be expected. Appetizers... Got started w/a crab dip, very good! Bread was hot and fresh. On to dinner...orders were the rib eye steak and filet mignon. Our steaks were perfect! My partner and I came here for a celebratory dinner and were not disappointed. The entrance is off an alley and while that doesn't sound like the best way to start a review, they have really owned this entrance and made it theirs. It's lit by fire sconces and is gorgeous. Once inside, that ambiance continues. We had reservations for 7 on a Saturday and, upon arrival, were greeted immediately and seated soon thereafter. One thing I immediately noticed; this restaurant is LOUD. We had a room that only had four tables, but the other three were occupied and the noise was quite heavy. We had to speak loudly ourselves to be heard across the table. Later in the evening, all these groups left and we had the room to ourselves, which was nice and quiet. However, I don't fault the restaurant for that. It's just something anyone coming here should be aware of; this isn't necessarily a quiet and intimate spot. We were very well taken care of by all the staff, from the hostess who poured water to the waitress taking our order. We explained the severe gluten allergy my partner has, and the staff were incredibly careful to ensure that no gluten whatsoever hit our table. We ordered a bottle of wine and were very pleased with what we received, both in quality and price. An Alta Vista 2018 Malbec, we enjoyed it quite a bit. Aware, of course, that there was a premium price laid atop the retail cost, however the service, ambiance, and general reality are included in all that. My partner ordered the filet mignon and, twist her arm, was convinced to add a lobster tail to the plate. I went off track for me, and chose a double cut pork chop with a cilantro lime dressing. Salad came first (sans croûtons, something our waitress noted she would do even before we mentioned it. Hooray for GF Aware Staff!!!) and I opted for their sweet garlic dressing. It was oil based and delicious, I have to say. When the food came out, it was beautiful to look at, smelled divine, and was absolutely delicious. My partner was in heaven with her lobster, truly enjoying the culinary sensation. The potatoes were quite good and the asparagus was very well done. Her steak was cooked perfectly and I don't believe I saw her use a knife once. My pork chop was incredible, double thick with a heavy dose of herbed butter on top of the cilantro lime seasoning. Served on the bone, it was a pleasure to cut into and devour. We loitered long after our meal was done, enjoying a few more glasses of wine. I asked for a recommendation for a vodka based cocktail and was recommended a pomegranate flavored drink, which was very sweet, but tasted amazing, and acted as a perfect post dinner cordial in lieu of dessert. We asked several times if we were in the way or needed to clear out for closing, but were made to feel welcome all the way until we left at about 1030, three and a half hours after our arrival. We expected the high cost based on the quality and type of dinner experience we were looking for, but for what we received, I believe it was a fair price for the quality. We noted for future reference that the restaurant offers several lower cost entree items, such as burgers and steak medallions, that would be perfect for a slightly upscale lunch at about twenty to thirty dollars per person. All in all, this was an amazing experience and we had an incredible evening. We will be back to celebrate more special occasions, but will also consider having just a nice date night out here as well. read more

My husband made a reservation here for my birthday, and we were both excited to try this restaurant for the first time. Unfortunately, for the price we paid, we left feeling quite disappointed. We ordered a seafood melt appetizer for $18, expecting something substantial, but it consisted of just four small pieces of bread with a side of seafood sauce. While the taste was pleasant, the portion was surprisingly small, leaving us a bit shocked. For our entrées, I ordered the ribeye, priced close to $70, and my husband opted for the pork chop, nearly $50. My steak arrived with mashed potatoes and asparagus, but none of it was seasoned at all. I had to add quite a bit of salt just to make it palatable, and the sides were equally bland. My husband's pork chop, topped with cilantro butter, had a better flavor, but he couldn't eat half of it because it was still raw inside. Our server was friendly, but no action was taken to address my husband's undercooked meal. For what we paid, we were expecting a well-prepared, memorable experience, yet I've had far better steaks for under $30. Hello, i made reservations a week in advance, came in for my sons girlfriends 23rd birthday dinner, as she wanted to dine there instead of Mortons. Seated at 6pm, couldn't even get a waitress to assist us for 15 minutes., finally when we flagged down a girl filing water glasses we made her aware we would like our waitress to order, please. Upon ordering, we didn't even get our iceberg wedge salads for 42 minutes and once again had to get up and ask another server if we could please get our salads before our steaks arrive. The service was sadly very poor , not what one would expect for an upscale restaurant whereas the prices are alittle more, one would sincerely expect ast that price to get good quality service in a timely manner. For $250,00 this was not a pleasant experience at all. Your establishment should take some pointers from Mortons Steakhouse or Ruth Chris, where the service is equally as paramount as the food. Ambiance was nice they had outdoor optional seating, the bar was beautiful. The service was terrible not because he was rude because he was nice however he was not quick at anything. He was slow to get our drinks and slow to serve us our food and slow to fix the orders that were incorrect because he forgot to order it on the kitchen. Then to pay and leave took a very long time for him to finish the business. He struggled with multitasking and/or they were very short staffed at 4pm. Although we had a reservation it felt like the restaurant was not staffed well nor were the staff helping each other to have better customer service or satisfaction.
