Better prices than the big chain stores! We were surprised that healthy eating for dogs can actually cost LESS. They carry Blue, Fromm and other top brands. Super deals on dog collars ($9-15!) and dog treats. The store is dog, kid and pet owner friendly. Really clean and organized. Very clever pallet shelving, with lots of durable dog toys, dog shampoo, treats. Just a really fun place to shop! Check out the cookies and handmade cards. Great place to pick-up a gift for a doggie birthday or new pet owner. The store is easily accessible from York Rd...look for the Verlare dry cleaner plaza at York and Vallette. My pets have sensitive digestive systems and it was quite the task finding a food that worked well for them. And unfortunately, very few pet stores carry it. I was excited to hear that Ruff Life had opened in Elmhurst so I called to see if they carried my brand of choice. I was told they did not, but at the same time they offered to special order it for me and to always have a bag available at their store. On top of that they explained their awards program that if you spend $250 you will receive $25 off. In my case, it doesn't take long to spend $250! I have been purchasing my pet's food at Ruff Life since my first phone call! They have quite an array of premium natural foods, treats, toys, supplements, etc. and your pets can shop with you. The store is always immaculate, even in our messy winter! The owners are great caring people. What more could a pet owner ask for? read more

Every year I go this cute little barkery & get my dog a birthday cake (amongst other things of course.) But today as I was going to carry out our tradition, I find out the store is no longer there. It has moved and now is a lot further of a drive for me than before. So after being in and out of many other pet stores, I was beat and discouraged. But then I stumbled upon this place, "Ruff Life" on Yelp. I called to see if they had the cake and they did! I spoke with Chris who was more than helpful. Without me even asking, he started explaining the assortment of ones they had and explained that they come in various colors. I told him I was on my way and he even offered me direction! That was only the beginning of the great & friendly customer service I received. BUT to top it off, the place is adorable and filled with lots of awesomeness! I am so happy I stumbled upon this gem! Fabulous natural dog food store with great promotion programs to save money. We buy our dog food (Orijen) here (for a much cheaper price than Amazon), and natural dog food treats too! Such a great place for high-quality pet items and dog food. They have a really good rewards program too. They are always pretty friendly and they will recognize you after you come in a few times. They even helped me carry a big bag of dog food to my car, which was very nice and appreciated. They have a great selection in here of treats, toys, bakery items, and food. Their prices are also very reasonable. The only thing I don't love is that their store reps sometimes push "grain free" food on everyone (the person working in the store the day I visited told me he tells most customers to go grain-free), which is frustrating because grain free is a personal decision to be made between you and the vet (often a medical necessity), not something to be pushed just because it's popular. Just seems uninformed. Do your own research and talk to your vet rather than relying on a sales rep who is NOT trained in nutrition. It's not Ruff Life's fault, it's just an annoying thing happening in the pet world. Anyway, god to know Ruff Life has a broad selection of dog foods that people can choose from regardless-grain free or not! Love this store. Buy local. read more

I can not rave enough about this great find! Super high quality products for your pets and terrific customer service! My boyfriend and I were visiting for the holidays and after being led astray by the Primal website to multiple locations closer to where we were staying that in fact did NOT carry the food we were looking for we called the Ruff Life. Chris, whom I believe is the owner, answered the phone and even offered to stay a few minutes later if we didn't get there by the time he was supposed to close since we were coming from about a half hour away in prime traffic hour. We got exactly what we needed and were impressed with the assortment of treats and toys. This is a great addition to Elmhurst. Chris is very knowledgeable about quality foods and the prices are good. I love the store. Chris talked me into some leashes that I thought my dogs would shred, but he was right they are still going strong. We are lucky to have them here and I love their adopt don't shop philosophy. So happy to have Ruff Life in Elmhurst. The owner is very friendly and helpful. They got Variety of healthy pet food at good price. I got a big bag of frozen meal, a bag of treats and some chew sticks and I paid less than $50!! Before Ruff Life I usually go to Pet Supplies Plus and PetCo (because they are the closest to where I live) and I easily spent over $50 every time and besides they don't have what I want and I had to buy what they have. Ruff Life got all the things I want even though the store is quite small. That means more quality products and less garbage. And I'm very confident that even if they don't have what I want, you can ask them and they'll get it for you. That's the benefit of having a family owned, owner operated local business. They care about their business that means they care about you that means they care about our dogs. I'm never going back to PetCo or Pet Supplies Plus. read more
