Boy oh boy. Where do I start ... I will say the service is good but that's because it was empty. There are some pros to coming here such as the travis are good. I mean really good. The lamb tongue, pastor, and chicken tinga. The Churro waffle was indescribable and was delicious. The tortas I had was poo. It was a fried chicken torta that lacked real flavor in the batter. Oy, It Hurts me to do this because I was really looking forward to this visit, but it set a new high water mark for the worst dining experience I've had in 20ish years. Our company group had reservations but our earlier event was shorter than anticipated so we arrived 45 minutes early. The restaurant, patio, and bar had about 15 patrons, but we were early and I can respect that they may have staffed accordingly so no harm done on not being able to seat us... BUT they could have been nice about it.. they were simply rude. No big deal. We went down the street for a round of drinks until our reservation time. We returned in time for our reservation and it went downhill from there. 20/25 minutes before anyone took our drink orders and 25 minutes before drinks started being delivered, one by one to the table. We ordered apps. I asked the waitress if that would be enough for the table and was assured it was. Not! Twice the amount would have been adequate. After another 20 minutes she finally came back to see if we need more drinks.. we'd been there for over an hour and a half at this point. Then she took, our entree orders. She wrote them down. Took an hour to get tacos and none of it was right. There was complete chaos around what was being delivered. I ordered 3 tacos, I got 2 of the 3. No idea what happened to the 3rd despite asking her. Complete chaos. By this time everyone gave up and had been going to the bar for drinks because the waitress did not give a damn. For gods sake these are street tacos! When I order à barbacoa taco, i don't expect you to have to go slaughter the animal and cook it before you serve it to me. If it's on your menu I expect you have it ready to assemble. Should take 20 minutes tops. That's just the service. The food was a 2 on a scale of 10. The ceviche was bland. The nachos in a bag a mess. The guacamole had more lettuce than avocado. I'll never know what the Javalina tacos tasted like because I never got it. The chicken taco was dry and the al pastor were meh. We finally left around 10pm and he whole dining experience had become a joke to the entire group. Rude welcome, inept service, and bad food. If I could give it 0 stars I would. I absolutely love this place! Every time I fly into Dallas I always eat there, ALWAYS. The food is incredible. The taste and the quality is nothing less than amazing. Desserts are so good that I always order 2 different ones and if I can't finish, well it doesn't matter because I was able to enjoy the taste. I always start with the Elote which is the perfect starter. Sopes with Barbacoa are my favorite right now with a side of 1 barbacoa taco. Seriously, if you haven't eaten here, I highly recommend it. Pre covid review: I ordered the 666, asking if it was spicy and smoky, as described, and was told that they could make it more if I wanted. I agreed and....if it was less smoky and less spicy before I'm not sure how they were able to call it 666 or use those adjectives before. My wife had been here with some friends on a weeknight and she loved it. So we decided to go up there with some close friends for a group dinner on a Friday night. I really wanted to like this place more. The atmosphere is great. Its a really cool place with a unique theme. The drinks were fantastic. We all tried each others drinks and they did not disappoint. Now the food wasn't as good as I was expecting. I had tacos and ceviche and they were decent. Tacos weren't crazy good but not bad either. The ceviche was good but I've had better in Florida. One of my friends had the snapper and I tasted it and it was rubbery with little flavor. Several people got tortas and the fries came out cold. Overall the people in our group were not impressed with the food. When I looked at the menu I was hoping to be impressed more. The menu is genius and the selection is great but the people cooking didn't execute. They have a great concept and the overall feel of the place is exactly what people love. They just need to improve the quality of the food. I hope it was just because they were really busy that night. I will try it one more time and see if it was just that evening that was bad. Arrived for a late lunch so the place was pretty empty. Dimly lit which my older co-worker didn't enjoy, but I did. Really felt like a cave, almost like a......real ruin! Reminds me of the movie also with the devils and the mystique. Cool place, lady bartender was very nice and attentive even though others arrived and she was by herself. Worker had a margarita w passion fruit syrup which was super delicious. Drink selection from spirits to beer is really great. On to the food. I had the borracho torta that was amazing. Super flavorful and tender meat. The cabbage gave it that bit of crunch to go with the super tender meat. Co-worker had the shanks. Those were delicious and came right off the bone. The potatoes that came with it were the perfect compliment. Absolutely will be back to try some of their other options. Both food and drink. Salud! read more

Good drinks BUT.... If I could give it negative stars I would. I was there recently and had horrible service from a couple of bartenders. The guy at the bar located in the back had a HORRIBLE attitude, I even heard him yell at a customer "don't you see I'm busy? Hold on!! **ck!" Which is beyond rude!!! Then after seeing how one of the owners was talking to another customer I could see why the employee thinks it was OK to speak that way. The Mi Vieja Y Yo on the breakfast menu is delicious! It composes of 2 tostados, 1 vegetarian and 1 with meat with an assortment of sauces that complement each tostado perfectly. Wasn't even that hungry, but I cleaned the plate! Not pictured but worth a mention is the Cajecta Churro Dream dessert which is a churro waffle that was super crunchy and cinammonny topped with a creamy yet non-sweet ice cream and strawberries. The long: We got a few drinks, one was a pisco drink that was super smooth and surprisingly good (my husband loves pisco, I hate it), the second was a prickly pear margarita which was good, nothing to write home about though, and the third was yes brown or something to that extent and was spirit forward and excellent. I've been to Ruins multiple times now. The 1st time it was "good" don't get me wrong. They have some authentic Mexican flavors that you don't get at some of the Tex-Mex spots in the area... BUT they have gone downhill with their fame and solid ratings and need to be taken down due to the drop in quality. They have stopped adding flavor to their food when it gets to peak hours - they are pumping out the slop for you money - and they should not be allowed to continue until they re-up the quality of food they used to serve - I will update this when they do. We came in after a company team building event with no notice to the restaurant. There were 18 of us and they hit the ground running! They had a table set up for us so fast and made everything so easy with ordering and taking care of the check. The drinks were great and the food was awesome! TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE. The food and service were generally fine, but the vibe and art of this restaurant is absolutely satanic. For a restaurant attempting to depict Mexican culture, they sure know how to take the soul out of it and put blasphemous images everywhere. Kinda feels like the place you go and then get drugged and trafficked. Jk, it's not that bad, but the vibe is legit evil and I've never felt so uncomfortable just sitting in a restaurant. The website is also completely misleading - they don't show you any of the horrific decoration of the place because they KNOW it would drive people away. I don't care if your favorite band is playing here, it is worth it to see them somewhere else. Definitely wouldn't be here past dark, and DEFINITELY wouldn't take children here. I'd absolutely love to see this restaurant undergo a major wholesome transformation or succumb to natural selection. After visiting Ruins (now four times), it's time I pony-up and write some words of wisdom about this fantastic spot in Deep Ellum! The menu includes some amazing Mexico inspired tacos, tortas, sides and sandwiches. My go-to taco is the lengua de cordero (lamb tongue) which is ridiculously good - tender doesn't describe it. For those that stick to the traditional carne, pastor or pollo - you've GOT to try this. Another favorite of mine is the crispy tinga taco - both are very generous sizes. I have a decent appetite, and two usually hits the spot just fine. The taste of Oaxaca includes a medley of guacamole, cheese (string) an amazing chorizo and the most quirky thing of all - the fried crickets. Surprisingly crispy (hint of salt) - these are very tasty! To the drinks! One of the main draws for me is the Wall a Rita - a passion-fruit based frozen margarita, with a melt-down of sangria and spiced rim. Ooh la la my favorite frozen margarita in Dallas (sorry everyone else). Location draws the business folks during the day and the eclectic after sunset crowd in the evenings.
