Made a reservation for my birthday and was highly disappointed. Once we were brought to our table, we had no menus and no server for about 10 minutes. As we wait, we notice pretty much everyone around us is also waiting to be helped. I'm confused why things were taking so long when there were definitely enough people to go around where patrons shouldn't be left unattended for THAT long. Server comes, drops menus, we immediately order our drinks because we don't want to have to wait again. As we wait for drinks, we look at the menu to decide on what we want. Not a very extensive menu, however options do sound very tasty. We look around at other tables and notice that portions are pretty small - we anticipated sharing multiple plates but quickly realized that wouldn't be the best option. At this point, another 15 minutes have passed and we still don't have our drinks or even water. We decided to walk out and eat somewhere else nearby. Restaurant is a beautiful space, however service is not up to par. Not sure if there is a floor manager there but if there isn't, I think one would be a huge help. read more

Came here for drinks and appetizers on a Friday night. We ordered the Hamachi Ceviche and Phoenix Sunrise roll (torched salmon, spicy crab stick, avocado, cucumber, sesame oil, tobiko). Flavors were excellent, lots of texture and everything was well seasoned. The "Shijito"- white rum, lime, shiso was tangy and refreshing! Had a good dinner here with friends last Thursday night. We made a reservation for 5 people at 5:30 pm. The place got hoppin' as the night went on. This is peruvian/japanese inspired tapas. My group wanted to share everything which was a great plan. We ended up getting: Ruka Spicy Tuna roll (tuna, avocado, cucumber, quinoa, spicy mayo) King Tupac roll (hamachi, spicy salmon, onion, miso glaze, spicy coconut) Hamachi ceviche (pineapple-ponzu, avocado, almond, onion) Japenese fried chicken Pork belly katsu Dan dan noodles (spicy, peanuts, mushrooms, chinese broccoli) Chicken fried rice Both of the sushi rolls were killer! You could taste each element (coconut!), but everything went together and nothing was overpowering. The fish was fresh and every morsel was tasty. I would 100% go back here for sushi alone. We were warned that the dan dan noodles were spicy and they were! But in a good, purposeful way. Not in a way to just burn off your face. You could still taste everything. I had one bite of the pork belly because I was getting full, and it wasn't all that. I've had better pork belly elsewhere, so I would skip that dish. I heard the fried chicken was yummy from everyone else at the table, but I didn't have the stomach room for it. Rice and ceviche were fine. I'd definitely come back for the sushi, to try the fried chicken and some of the other items on the menu that caught my eye (tuna poke, lobster ceviche, wagyu steak and salchipapas!). The drinks were also inventive and had fun movie names like Hans Gruber, Inigo Montoya and Beatrix Kiddo. Some of the drinks had 1 ingredient where I was like Hmmmmm...., but everything I tried (The Joker, Inigo Montoya and Gordon Gekko) was tasty and true to the listed ingredients. This is not the best meal everrrr, so 4 stars, but really like 4.5 as the vibe was clean and comfortable, service and drinks were good and most of the food stood out as well. Brought my daughter here for her birthday at her suggestion, and it was surprisingly good. Bryce was our server and was very friendly and helpful with the menu. Each dish is like a large tapa plate for sharing. The Tuna Katani was probably our favorite dish. The tuna was fresh and of higher quality. The Korean Tartare was also very good with seasoning that didn't overpower the meat. I also liked the Spicy Fried Calamari, although it wasn't liked by the others in my party. Also had 2 noodle dishes, which were okay, with the sesame one the better choice. Overall, a good experience, although it was fairly noisy and not easy to carry on normal conversation. read more

TLDR: interesting decor and ambiance, but the food falls a bit short, table reservations are a joke and the staff is hit or miss. I don't get the hype. Reservations : it's not the easiest place to get a reservation. They use a platform I've not heard of before and try to avoid taking them over the phone. I called and someone said we could come as walk-ins and add our name to a list. When we showed up they said it was only for the bar or standing tables. There is one standing table and less than a dozen bar seats. The bar seats around the side (in front of sushi staff) are reserved for reservations. We started off at the standing table, fortunately one of the four bartenders kindly engaged with us and added us to "a list" and we were fortunate to get a table shorty thereafter. Meanwhile 2 large high top tables by the window remained empty the entire 1.5 hours we were there. Our friends were seated in another area and also had empty tables near them the entire time. Service: out of the 4 bartenders only 2 of them were friendly (ironically, they both wore glasses). The other two were inattentive and socializing. The one with blonde hair was at least making drinks as they came through from the tables -- albeit seemingly in front of a couple that he appeared to be friends with. The last was chatting with the blonde bartender, doing as little as possible. We had to interrupt his conversation twice to order more food and get a water refill, since he didn't pick up on my shaking the ice in my empty glass trying to get the last drops lol. Food: started out pretty well but didn't keep up with expectations. Also, they cut the cucumber pretty thick so it's a big crunchy bite in any roll you order. 1. pork yakisoba - good flavor, really tasty, but the pork was a bit thin 2. Huaca dragon - pretty rbut we couldn't taste the shrimp or mango. No idea what the "hot mustard dynamite" was, never tasted it 3. Ruka spicy tuna - good enough but nothing to write home about 4. Loved this place! Amazing aesthetics, friendly servers and hosts, and absolutely insane food! I loved everything that we ordered but I have to say their sushi were the best! Phoenix Sunrise was my favorite of them all but their spicy tuna was good too. We were celebrating a birthday and the servers were also sweet enough to offer us a birthday dessert! Such a fun experience! Went with my girlfriend (LGBTQ+ friendly) the waitress sang happy birthday to my gf with me. It was so cute and sweet. Definitely coming back for future celebrations. The ambiance was so nice and I felt like I could stay for hours. The music wasn't too loud and it was just dark enough that you can feel comfortable without it being too dark you can't see. I am a spicy margaritas, mezcal guy and this was my place already after I saw they have Aji alegre drink on the menu..Strong drink with a kick!! As for food I can assure you that you won't find any better sushi in the area..I know because I live nearby and tried every single sushi place in the area. My husband and I shared calamari (crispy,but not over deep fried), King Tupac roll( my favorite) ,Huaca Dragon (so fresh!!!) Another dish that I enjoyed was Tako meshi which is basically rice with seafood like octopus and crab..very crispy and perfect with a glass of Gruner Vertliner. For dessert we had Cachangas. It's similar to churros and came with vanilla ice cream. Overall we enjoyed urban yet romantic atmosphere and attentive service. The only complaint I would have about the food is that the waygu mofu could've used more flavor, but it was super tender and melted in my mo! Walked in on a busy Monday night with no reservation and we were immediately offered a seat at the sushi bar, which has a server. Space is very well laid out and decorated and while service was a little slow, not unexpected with how busy they were, it was a welcome place to enjoy the environment and decompress. Appetizers were phenomenal, we had the Wasabi Puffs and Fried Cheese Sticks. Sauces were smokey and sweet and best mixed together with the tempura fried melted, stretchy cheese. The puffs were flat out delicious and not overly aggressive if the wasabi seems scary and were well balanced with the spicy tuna and puff. We shared the lobster roll and it was incredibly light and fresh with a nice portion of lobster. Sake is by the glass and small beer & cocktail list but you should be coming here for the excellent food and atmosphere over beverages anyway. Highly recommended overall read more

Literally the worst service we have ever had. We were celebrating the birthdays of two members of our party, but one of us got sick so we were delayed 20 minutes. We called in advance to let them know and they told us they were going to charge us the $100 cancellation fee since they have a 15-minute grace period, even though this late policy is nowhere on their website. We called twice trying to explain our situation, but everyone we talked to (we spoke to Mariana) was super rude and dismissive. This completely ruined our birthdays. We visited Ruka on Saturday. We had reservations but decided to sit at the bar. The bar is always the best IMO We had a wonderful bartender/server named Lucas. he knew the menu inside and out. My boyfriend and I had lots of questions about the food, but Lucas never seemed annoyed by this. He has only worked for the restaurant for three months, but it seemed like he had been there for a lot longer, just with the professional, warm and engaging way he communicated with both customers and co-workers alike The cocktails and food were really excellent. Our waiter accidentally gave us 3 incorrect dishes which we said wasn't ours. We felt yelled at being asked what we ordered when we had only ordered two plates and gotten only one correct plate. It was just me and my partner, and on either side of us was also a couple on each side. The couple on our left side got the sushi roll meant for the couple on our right, and the couple on our left also got the bill for the couple on our right. We were the middle man between the two tables for what felt the entire dinner. The table from our left had to ask for their sushi from our table... the staff had NO IDEA what was happening. And never asked once how our experience was going, or if we wanted anything else. Overall surprisingly the worst dining experience in Boston in terms of customer service. I loved the hawaiian crunch roll, the hamachi amarillo roll as well as the cocktail I ordered. Came here last night for dinner and it was delicious. We made reservations through their online software and got a 5:30 reservation. Our server was wonderful and evening was nice, even as things got louder and busier towards the end of our meal. The small plates are about two per person. We got two sushi rolls, the Mongolian beef, and the yucca tuna dish. Everything was amazing. I can not wait to go back and try more of the menu. Ps. I love the extra charge for the kitchen staff! my friends and i came to ruka restobar and we absolutely loved it! we were impressed by their sushi and cocktails. i ordered the phoenix sunrise - it was amazing. although it's slightly on the pricier end ($18), i'd say it's very worth it and i was impressed by not only the taste but also the presentation of the food. for dessert, you must try the big fish! it's their signature dessert and it tastes delicious. customer service could have been a little bit better, but overall, we had a great experience. the lighting in the restaurant is pretty dim, so it gives quite a cozy vibe - perfect for a date or a girls night out. i highly recommend ruka to everyone! read more
