So sad.... We have been here in the area for almost 30 years. We have gone to Rum Bay many times. Always been ok, one point it was good and we went once a week for a while maybe 12 years ago. We went last week March 2026. It was awful, food was just below ok. Service was strange, that's all that I could think of. Someone in our party said is the server on drugs based on her behavior. They did not even have menus with descriptions on them, Just a name and a price. I should have known when we walked in and there might be 12 people in there during lunch at prime season. Went with family today, 3/11/26, decore veey nice, view also very nice. The rest of the experience, mediocre to say the least, 15 minutes waiting for wait staff to take first drink orders, about 5 minutes to get 1 mixed drink 1 beer 1 water 1 juice. 45 minutes passed and our Swamp burgers and grouper sandwich finally arrived. Burger was good as any other beach bar restaurant, grouper sandwich was flat grilled piece of grouper, one leaf of romaine, 1 slice of onion, no sauce, no seasoning. Service extremely slow, food service even slower. Dont think I'd ever return or recommend Rum Bay. Dissapointed was hoping for something special. read more

This was located on a private resort only accessible by boat, ferry, or water taxi. It was a decent sized spot with a gift shop attached and a small bar present as well with a few televisions. The service was friendly as the food came out in a timely manner. 5 appetizers were ordered and my thoughts on each are below. Coconut Shrimp ($11.75) - This came with 6 shrimps present and a sweet Thai chili sauce. These were excellent. I am usually not a big fan of coconut flavored foods, but these were an exception. They had a perfect amount of batter and just enough coconut flavor where it was not too strong of a flavor. The sauce helped too. Key West Conch Fritters ($11) - There were 6 fritters present and they came with a mustard sauce. The fritters were a tad dry, but the mustard sauce helped with that. The filling was just okay. Island Wings ($15) - There were 10 wings and the 24k sauce was ordered. It consisted of a BBQ and honey mustard sauce combined. I never saw something like this before, so I had to give it a try. It was very good. The sweetness from the honey mustard combined with the smokiness of the BBQ sauce made for an interesting sauce. I wish there was even more sauce present!! Flash Seared Tuna ($12.25) - This came with a wakame salad and a dipping soy sauce. The tuna was seared ideally while the salad was light. The sauce helped enhance the overall tuna flavor as well. The restaurant on the island. Lots of good choices for some tropical food. Started with a couple of rum drinks. Loaded with great rum. Got the egg rolls to start. Pretty tasty and cooked pretty good. Would later decide these were the best things we would have. I got their duck. It was ok. It was a little overdone and dry but when mixed with their swamp sauce it was pretty good. Really liked the flavors on the steamed broccoli and the rice was cooked Goo Deb had the ribs and shrimp combo. Ribs here too were overdone and dry. A little chewy. Fries were....meh at best Over all ok. I think we would come here for apps and drinks. Some say the pizza is good so we'll try that next time Shoutout to Edward our server. Worst experience in a long time . It started with a pessimistic, negative, argumentative water taxi driver . Who discouraged us from going to Palm Island with excuses of long wait times at the restaurant. After calling for a reservation for 7 at 630pm we were finally seated at 730pm . To find out they were out of ribs, baked potatoes, pizza and paninis. REALLY! It's Saturday Evening, it's season need I say more . The entire restaurant seemed to be a disorganized mess . A fantastic place to eat..........in times past. Went there on 3/28/23 expecting the great quality food we USED to get and was very disappointed. The grouper sandwich was a very small piece of fish for $26. It tasted good but was very small for the price. The accompanying fries were very good. We ordered calamari and got a Mrs. Pauls fish stick like stuff. Not even sure it was squid. It looked more like deflated french fries or dehydrated apple slices. Tasted fishy and chewy. I would not even offer these on the menu to my guests if this is the only thing I could get. Now, in contrast, I saw some nice plates coming out with Fish and Chips, burgers, and Mahi tacos. I told our server, Pheonix, that the calamari was not good so I hope that she passed that along to the manager. I've had good ribs in the past so IF we go back, I'll just get the burger or ribs. read more

Worst experience at a restaurant while visiting. It took an hour to get our food for a table of 7. Our server didn't really seem to mind we waited too long. Three of us ordered Alfredo and two came with penne noodles. It was made incorrectly and didn't taste like Alfredo at all. Two of us ordered blackened shrimp and the shrimp wasn't blackened at all. They also didn't get the rice that goes with it. Our food didn't come all together either. We waited 10 plus more minutes for the rest of the food while others were already eating. We are boaters so we're always looking for fun places to go by boat. So when we heard it was only accessible by boat, we pulled up anchor and cruised to Rum Bay. If you go, make sure you look for channel marker 9A, if coming from the north, don't take a chance and try to cut west earlier, it looked pretty shallow. Plenty of dockage once you arrive. Then just follow the boardwalk. So.... I had to have a Rum drink, not sure what it was called but it was a house special, and it was very good. For lunch we had a chicken Caesar salad and a Burger, both were very good. Place was very nice and clean. We've put it on our 'go to' list when friends and family visit. Cheers! read more

A large group dined here on a boat outing & it was great. Food from appetizers to main courses was delicious. Prices are fairly reasonable and the service was good as well. My baked potato wasn't cooked so it had to go back to the kitchen, but that was the only glitch. My husband & I shared the whole snapper & it was great. This is one of my all-time favorite places to go with family and friends when visiting. We literally bring everyone to this restaurant when they're in town. However, recently it has been absolutely disgusting. Filthy, with bugs crawling all over the tables and walls, along with gross bathrooms and unacceptable, visible filthy dirt all over. We've been coming here for years and have just seen such a decline lately, so much so that we won't be back or bring any visitors there. I don't know how it stays open at this point with how filthy and unsanitary it has become. Our whole family is so disappointed, we loved coming here! Boat ride awesome go for ice cream food in restaurant is not so good They need a new cook

we had guest in and thought it would be nice to take them on the water taxi and out to lunch here. Destin was our waiter and took very good care of us. As for the food, it was food, nothing special, nothing really bad. We had a combo of burgers, salads and club sandwiches. Location is great, water taxi ride was nice on the way out but over a 1/2 hour late in the return. Several people complained about the lateness and given no reason by the captain when he picked us up. read more

I took my daughter to Rum Bay Restaurant for her birthday. It was her first time. She enjoyed it so much- from the boat ride over to the food at restaurant, service was excellent also. From an outdated website that has the wrong hours and incorrect menu items to the lack of cleanliness, this place screams for new management. If that wasn't bad enough, the food is all frozen and supermarket quality. Every single item is frozen or bottom of the barrel food quality. This place needs to start over and actually try. First time eating out here and won't be returning. We had the ribs, peal and eat shrimp, ahi tuna, chicken wings, and the chicken parm. All the food was just okay the ribs were dry but had decent flavor, the tuna was fresh but missing salt, the wings were served plain and were good but needed sauce of some kind, the chicken was strange due to the odd choice of bredding, the noodles were over cooked and the sauce was defiantly from a can. The peal and eat shrimp were the highlight of the meal and were good but not great. Over all the bill came to 75$ plus a 45$ boat ride. If you are planing on only going for dinner don't. You can get a lot better food for less money on the main land. The bottom line. We won't be back read more

Ate here for the first time not too long ago. My guy had fish and chips, he really liked it. I had the grilled Bleu Tomatoes...tomatoes in Florida are meh, but this certainly was a great appetizer anyway....We really enjoyed the short water taxi ride. This is a nice go to by water taxi on a warm sunny day. The food was ok but nothing special (calamari and coco shrimp appy's both disappointing, fish and chips and salmon wrap were good) The service was good if not a bit sterile (substitute rushed/cold). It looks like the restaurant is undergoing renovations which, once complete, should add more appeal to the overall experience. Given the location it would be great to see more deck space. The resort (which seemed empty or shut down) has a great private beach with beautiful sugar sand and lovely sandbars (not open to public but no guards to stop us from exploring) Glad I went but not sure I'll go back anytime soon. We have been to Rum Bay three times over the years and our most recent visit on 4/2/23 will be our last. From the water taxi ride with the grumpy captain who made us feel like an imposition, his equally grumpy wife who grumbled about her job at the restaurant and tagged along on our trip, to the much smaller menu, unavailable items, and generally high prices for average food, this one is now off our list. No French fries that night. No more salad and rolls with dinners. Yes, you can choose a salad in place of a side, but it's not part of the meal anymore. Our server, Carol was great, however. For the only restaurant at the Palm Island Resort, this is not tooo bad! They have a nice selection of cocktails- their specialty is the Rum Bay Smash! I am not a huge fan of rum, but even I liked it! They will also give you your drinks in to-go cups! #HOLLAR !! We stayed for a long weekend at the resort so had a chance to try much of the fare. This is not a fine dining establishment, but each time we had great service and a lot of fun! I had the crab cake sandwich, the club, grilled bleu tomatoes, and a pizza. A nice local couple told us that we should go & that it is their favorite restaurant. We took our boat from the Inlet on Boca Grande. The boat ride is very nice, mostly in the channel & you see lots of pretty houses. We didn't know about the Palm Island Ferry & the ferry captain was very rude to us. The dock & the pathway to the restaurant are very well constructed. The restaurant itself is very nice. Ryan was our waiter & provided great service. The Conk fritters & Yucca fries we ordered for appetizers were delicious. Some of the group said they were the best conk fritters they had ever had. For drinks we ordered Hurricane, Rum Smash , Jamaica Me Crazy & beer. The drinks were very good. But now to the actual meal.. It was inedible!!! The Broccoli tasted like from a cafeteria. Baked potato over cooked. coconut shrimp raw, Boiled fish, Caesar salad was drowned in dressing & salad brown. Crab & avocado quesadilla was very fishy & no avocado. Butter good that came with bread but bread was dry. They gave you a lot of food, entree choice of salad & 2 sides for $14.50 but you get what you pay for. Manager came & comped everyone's meals & we only paid for drinks - he came & apologized again. So the manger comped our meals & came back again & apologized. In our first visit to Pine Island, we the better part of a week mostly on the island and while not staying inside the resort, we rented a house nearby. Rum Bay is THE ONLY restaurant on the island, but they do a solid job of both food and drink in spite of their monopoly. Over 4 days we sampled the shrimp, hot wings, salads and cheeseburger, in addition to several rounds at the bar. We ate both in the restaurant and got takeout, all with solid reviews from everyone. The drinks are overpriced even for the beach, but the food is reasonable for island fare. The biggest downside of Rum Bay is the view...there is none. They're not on the ocean or the bay, but again, convenience is their biggest benefit. We'll be back! read more
