Popular restaurant right on the beach. We went during Happy Hour and were still able to get seated right away. The Loaded Cassava Fries were delicious. The hubby enjoyed the Wagyu Burger and I really enjoyed the Beef Bao Buns. The son had the Tuna Tartar Bowl. The daughter-in-law had the Josephine's Greens Salad w/grilled chicken added. We also ordered Chicken Nuggets and fries from kid's menu for the grandson. Menu is limited and prices are a little high for the amount of food you get. (This wasn't the menu we saw online.) With that said, the food was really good and the service was excellent. I would suggest going here when you want a light snack/meal. Otherwise you might leave feeling a little hungry. read more

The bartenders are always wasted, can't remember your order, place a order of wings when they're out after you've waited 20 minutes. We ate here one night during our stay on St. John and unfortunately, were not impressed. The food was very bland. I ordered mahi mahi with the coconut rice and corn salsa. My husband had Jamaican shrimp and some sort of bread that was hard as a rock. There was almost no salt on either dish. If you're looking for a great view of the sunset and beach and to get some drinks and appetizers, this is the place for you! We got 4 drinks and 2 appetizers. Here's what we thought - starting with the best: - Mai Tai ($12). This was our favorite of the four drinks we got. It was a sweet fruity drink but you can definitely taste/feel the rum too! - Smoked Pork Sliders ($16). A set of 3 sliders. The best part is the korean chili aioli; it really pulls otherwise plain sliders into a great appetizer. - Blackened Mahi Bites ($15). Our server mentioned this was their most popular appetizer. Definitely can tell why! You get a bowl of cubed mahi with a remoulade dipping sauce (think of it like a spicy mayo or creamy mustard sauce) and an arugula salad. - Classic Pineapple Daiquiri ($12). So great. Definitely got me in the mood for the sunset! - Mojito ($10). Classic mojito - can't go wrong with it! - Goslings Dark & Stormy ($10). Our least favorite drink here. Hoo boy. The food here is a bit of a mess. "Fully loaded garlic fries" means some pre-frozen little fries with an almost semen-like drenching of garlic mayonnaise. Very unappetizing to see, though not bad to eat. Crab cakes with salad means two deep-fried pucks of mostly breadcrumbs with a dozen arugula leaves. "Hummus" means, like, partially blended refried beans--clearly the victim of an ice cream scoop--and a pile of semi-stale tortilla chips. The half-pound of peel and eat shrimp was maybe eight shrimp dusted lightly with Old Bay served with a side of bottled cocktail sauce. The various fruit daiquiris tasted of bottom shelf rum and little else. All in all, take your hunger elsewhere. (I will add that my fiancée professed to "liking" the fries and the drinks, but even her starry eyes couldn't aver to say more than that.) read more

What an excellent dinner and drink spot! For our last night on the island we wanted to have a nice and not too expensive dinner. The menu is full of veryy affordable and delicious food and drinks. We had been drinking rum drinks all week so it was nice to take a break from it and get refreshing mojitos and seared tuna salads. Everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked, but the carne asada tacos were amazing!! We got some to go on top of the ones we devoured during dinner. While on the islands I mainly ordered fish, and avoided the beef but the carne asada these folks made were some of the best I have ever had! The atmosphere is relaxed and fun but not too loud. The view is awesome, you can get a table next on the beach next to the water. And the service was on point. No complaints, next time we come back to St John's we are heading straight here for more! read more

i honestly loved this place. we went like 5 times in 3 days. we had lunch and then went back to sit on the beach for drinks at night. the drink selection is kind of limited, there were only a few to choose from. They did run out of mint so i couldn't have anymore mojitos one day, which was kind of unfortunate because the other drinks were a little too strong for me. in our bunch of visits we noticed that some of the servers are definitely more genuinely nice than others.. but i have to give it to them because they were doing multiple days of double shifts in the heat. by far this place plays the best music IMO (more house, electronic and hiphop than other bars that play mixes of old radio music - still good but *too* random) also it isn't too loud so you don't need to yell to speak to someone the food was good. garlic fries ugh. those crispy onions on the house salad- so good. i recommend making this a stop on your trip for sure. read more

The beach bar next door was too loud for me, so I kind of moved to the next bar which was a bit quieter. I was pleasantly surprised! Better seating, better atmosphere than the beach bar ( at least for me). It looks like it belongs to a hotel if Im not mistaken but exactly what I was looking for. A bit upscaled beach bar with still a low key. The nacho I had here was unforgettable as I dont even like nachos that much. Painkiller was a bit strong but got better as the ice melted. Overall it was my best place on St John among all other highly recommended restaurants. Oh and the server was super nice too! read more

All the 4 and 5 star reviews brought us here... on the beach location is impressive-- the food, not. Shrimp and corn fritters were undercooked, raw in the middle, and inedible. Mahi fish tacos were over cooked and didn't taste fresh. Come for a drink and leave it at that. read more

We liked it so much we came back two days in a row. It's located very close to the ferry dock, right on the steps of the beach. Super laid back, casual spot here. Both days I was wearing my swimsuit and a cover up, so no issues if you just got off the beach. The entire place was open air as most spots are. Seating was first come first serve, and it was usually packed when we arrived during the lively happy hours. $3 for whatever your heart desires from 4-6pm. We had the VI beers mostly and tried a couple of their signature cocktails. I was pleasantly surprised by the food here. It's all American food and I loved that they had some veggie options! I ordered the grilled eggplant sandwich and it was incredible! I would have never thought such a place would have been able to execute this well at all. Grilled eggplant, mozzarella, basil, tzatziki sauce and tomato on a bun was sounds odd but it was perfect. All in all, a fun casual atmosphere, great food and amazing views of the harbor! read more

Joe's Rum Hut is an all-around win if you are visiting St. John. Close to the passenger ferry dock, easy to get to, great view, awesome drink specials, and recently I discovered they have pretty legit food! Definitely gets a solid 4 stars from me! Of course come for their most amazing happy hour special ($3 you-call-it), its pretty epic. But I would also say, based on our last visit, stay for the food as well, because it was pretty good! I got their turkey bacon guacamole wrap, and it was really delicious...a great sandwich. Awesome potato salad as well, that was definitely a hit, but their fries are also really tasty, those perfect skinny-cut shoestring fries that are sometimes so hard to find! I will definitely come back here to eat (and of course drink) next time we are in Cruz Bay, and would recommend it to others. Great ambiance as well, definitely is a chill laid back beachy vibe that makes me wish I was on vacation for more than just the day when I go over there! Joe's is an amazing cute restaurant right on the beach! My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinners! We got the steak tacos, garlic fries, cheeseburger sliders, beet salad, and orange calamari! All were very fresh and delish! They also served local beers which we enjoyed as we watched the ocean and listened to some live music with beach bar being next door. After a 24 hour long endeavor to St. John from Los Angeles - Joe's was a beacon. They've got a killer happy hour from 4-6pm - all drinks are $3. So you can basically drink 4 mojitos for the price of 1 (in LA, at least) Not to mention - their food is killer. We only had appetizers - the spicy shrimp and the mahi mahi bites. Both were delicious. I think the shrimp were my favorite! I was envious of the people around us ordering nachos. They were HUGE and looked really good. Service was quite friendly and very efficient! Near the Red Hook ferry drop-off and just off the beach, so you can easily take your cocktail down and sit on a deck chair/go for a swim. They also have a corn hole setup which is pretty badass and so fun. I highly recommend the spicy shrimp (as an appetizer or tacos) and the Lime In De Coconut drink or the Banana Daiquiri. Joe's is a great choice to swing by for a beverage and food in the Cruz Bay area on St. John. The location is right off the ferry exit/entrance and has an amazing view of the bay. We were very hungry when we came here and the food we got was filling and very delicious. We got a Lobster pizza, which was amazing and everything food should strive to be. We also got Joes cheesesteak again very good. The service here was ok and drinks were ok too, nothing special. They've got a fun atmosphere, a great beach bar vibe. The bathroom was not in restaurant, but back in by a covered parking lot/garage area. The view though is worth stopping by alone. read more

Happy hour at Joe's Rum Hut in Cruz Bay is a must do after you get off the ferry. You'll need a good strong drink after the journey it's taken you to get to Saint John. The bar has no address and no phone, but it's in Wharfside Village, next to the pier - just take a right after the pier and it's a short walk on the ocean front balcony. Good place to wait for your next bus to come instead of paying the crazy taxi fees. read more

They also have a lunch menu and are part of the pizza place right across from them. Pizza is great too! This is always my first stop after a day of travel and I step foot off the ferry into St John. Lucky for me, I tend to arrive right during happy hour ($3 painkillers!) and just before the sun is setting.. The view is the best part. You're sitting right on top of the beach overlooking the harbor, watching the boats and ferries come in after a day out on the water.. Then it's the perfect setting to watch the sun set over St Thomas. I always look forward to coming here as I know it's the best way to kick off my vacation in St. John! read more
