Four stars seems a little much, but they're deserving of more than three, so... Rum Runners isn't a bad place. They're located in a touristy little part of Christiansted. The restaurant is right on the water/dock, so it was a nice ambience and good for people watching. Our waitress was cheerful, despite the oppressive heat. The menu looked like it had options for everyone, but was fried/bar-food centric. Not a bad place to eat in Christiansted, but you're better off coming here for the drinks and to chill. read more

I didn't care for the shrimp quesadilla because the shrimp weren't seasoned at all. My friend said her chicken wasn't either. So next time I might just order just a cheese one. I also ordered a frozen mango and strawberry margarita which was just juice like it wasn't that hot for it to melt that fast. The buffalo wings really good. I would suggest asking for extra sauce if you like it extra spicy like me, but they are sauced enough. I will definitely be back!!! read more

The male server was very attentive. He made the rounds eventhough he was serving several tables at once. I really enjoyed the Conch fritters. They were filled with Conch. Over salted and underwhelming. Had very high hopes for this place but was very disappointed. Our waitress was nice but the food really disappointed. The only okay thing was the peel n eat shrimp which is hard to mess up. The crab cake was too salty and the mussels were extremely over salted. The desserts were mediocre for 9 dollars, either frozen or refrigerated. So we opted for the chocolate cake and it was hard from being refrigerated for so long. A mother (read: my mother) will never admit when she's wrong, despite my best attempts to show her she's wrong. However, during our dinner at Rum Runners, I concede and admit that she made the best food pick this particular evening. Manchego crusted sea scallops, risotto laced with honey truffle butter - I originally dismissed this dish because it sounded too rich but boy this was a mistake. This is totally the dish you need to get at Rum Runners. I grew insanely jealous of my mom's dinner after I stole a bite of her risotto (okay, and a chunk of a scallop too). The risotto was perfectly cooked and but the star was clearly the honey truffle butter. Gosh, I just love saying it: HONEY TRUFFLE BUTTER - the perfect blend of sweet and savory. And then you add cheese on top of scallops; how did I pass this up? For me, the loser in this food battle, I chose the shrimp scampi over angel hair pasta with sun dried tomatoes. The dish was to its credit, satisfying but paled in comparison to the scallops my mother had and the jerk pork my father had for dinner. There was a large amount of sun-dried tomatoes in the dish which was actually quite off-putting. They looked black more than dark red so my dish looked like it was infested with black blobs of mushrooms instead of tomatoes. Needless to say, these were pushed to the side and went uneaten. The shrimp were sizable and tasted fresh so at least it wasn't a total wash-out dish. So prior to our entrees, we did have some starters. Mom was thrilled to see there were conch fritters on the menu and noted that this was the only place on the island that we had been to that served conch. We also had some peel & eat shrimp and yucca chips and salsa. The conch fritters tasted like a savory version of hush puppies with a spicy sauce. I liked the yucca chips and salsa. The salsa was fresh and not like a jar of Tostitos salsa poured into a bowl. Peel & eat shrimp - can't go wrong. Decently portion, hot and fresh shrimps, ready to be dipped in a spicy cocktail sauce. Yes, please! We skipped dessert. Well, I forced everyone (Mom, Dad, Gran) to skip dessert here because I wanted to try out Ivy's Ice Cream (further down the boardwalk and up King's alley) after having read about it online. This proved to be a fantastic idea. Not to say their desserts weren't tempting - it's just that I wanted ice cream more than pie or cake (gasp). The location of the restaurant is probably where it wins its appeal. It's right on the Christiansted Boardwalk-Waterfront and the view is gorgeous. Especially when the sun is setting over the boats and the cool breeze starts blowing through - a wonderful relief from the hot sun that burned my skin all afternoon. Make sure you get a seat on the outside - you won't regret it. So anyway...Mom, you win this time. But don't get used to this (me, losing)...because it surely won't happen again. read more

We came here for lunch while we were at Port on our cruise. I was here on a Sunday and it seemed like Rum Runners was one of the only places open... yea... everything's closed on a Sunday in a town named Christiansted.... who saw that one coming. One of the first things I noticed when I got to Rum Runners was this cool box they were keeping the lobsters in that had fresh sea water being pumped into it. I sat down got a beer and enjoyed the amazing view of the ocean this restaurant had. One of the funniest things about this restaurant, is that fiddler crabs will will actually Crawl up to your table hoping that you will drop food so they can snatch it up. The food is okay, but definitely a cool spot to get drinks. read more

This place has the best location. Right on the harbor of Christiansted in the middle of it all. They also are well known for their webcam where you can catch a live view of the harbor at all times on this beautiful island. Sigh, I wish I was there right now! We went because it is a staple in St. Croix. I had a lobster quesadilla and the boyfriend had fish tacos. Mine was superior, but of course! We each washed them down with Painkillers.... yummo. I'll start by saying that I'm a tourist and my tastes may differ from those locally. The good: The location is nice and seating by the water is plentiful. It has a very relaxed atmosphere and the staff were all very nice. The service was quick and friendly. The not so good: parking is street parking only and that comes with its own challenges in a downtown type of environment just like any city. Be prepared to walk at least a few blocks. No fault of the restaurant and I didn't take this into account in the rating. The bad: I ordered the vegetable tofu curry. It first came out with no tofu, but was quickly fixed. Sadly, it just wasn't very good. The rice was over cooked and had a slightly grainy mushy quality. The curry itself was bland and not at all spicy. I ate some and it wasn't awful, just not good. My husband had the scallops, and his generous feelings were similar. The scallops themselves were cooked well. But the risotto was greasy and there was a pool of butter on the bottom. Side note: the drink menu looked good and had a variety of options. We didn't get any so I can't comment on the quality. Overall, not awful. But I do expect more for a $90 meal. read more

My husband and I had a dinner for our wedding guests here the night before our wedding. As everyone else mentioned, they were able to seat our group in a great location by the water. The food was wonderful and was also able to accomidate for 2 little kids. They also have a live camera that our guest and I had a kick out of calling our friends and family and having them see us waving at them through the web cam. We stopped here for dinner the other night. It was a Monday night and a lot of places in town were closed so our options were a bit more limited than we had hoped. We decided on Rum Runners because it seemed a bit quieter and more laid back than some of the other places along the boardwalk. The service was quick and attentive and our server was very friendly. This is one of the best places in St. Croix to get a wonderful succulent lobster, whats better is all the lobsters in the tank are huge, and a large adult lobster, steamed, served with butter and a lemon wedge is like $12 bucks. And The Rum Runner is very casual, situated on the boardwalk, you can walk along and catch a glimpse at fish, post up at a table and watch the boats come into the marina as you crack open your lobster and devour.
