Went to Rumba on the Saturday night of July 4th weekend. I went with a group of 7 girls and of course we expected a wait. When putting our name down we were told 1 hour and 30 minutes until we would be seated. We ordered 2 drinks before we were seated and about 1 hour and 45 minutes later we finally got a table (9:30ish). After sitting down (the waitress was aware of our wait time) we each ordered another round of drinks. We placed our orders shortly after for only a few appetizers and then all of our entrees. The appetizers came pretty quickly, but the entrees didn't come for quite awhile after. The group I was with was starving and very unhappy with the wait time for our table/food. While waiting for our dinner my friend mentioned something to the restaurant about the situation. Kindly the restaurant brought over a complimentary round of their banana rum (if I recall correctly) for the inconvenience. Once we each had the shots we were still waiting awhile for our food. Our dinner finally arrived around 10:15/30 and we were all famished. I ordered the Jerk Chicken entree and it was awful to be quite honest. Normally anything would taste decent considering how hungry I was, but the dish was not what I was expecting at all. It was two small pieces of grilled chicken breast with a little seasoning on it and dry. Very misleading considering when I normally order Jerk Chicken it's very juicy with thick sauce on the bone. The coconut risotto was just OK. Nothing great at all. My friends enjoyed the tacos they ordered. I didn't complain about my dish as at that point I just wanted to get out of the restaurant and was annoyed by the whole situation. The restaurant was aware of our situation and all of the delays. In addition to the complimentary round of shots the restaurant was kind enough to remove all drinks we ordered at the table from our bill. We really appreciated the gesture and it was the right thing to do. Overall I think that the volume of people and the holiday weekend was overwhelming to Rumba. I've been a few times before and had a pleasant experience. I potentially would be willing to give the restaurant another shot, but wish this experience had been better. read more

We are from Washington D.C. staying in Southampton for a month, and I from this "outsider's" perspective this is a weird restaurant. The crowd is very Jersey City, food is fine, neither good not terrible, and the service is very haphazard. It's the kind of place where they ask you if you are "still working on that" even if other people at the table are still eating. They asked my son 4 times if they could take his plate and we were only there for 40minutes, usually you get a table for 2 hours. The drinks were only ok and overall the ambiance was average. Duck empanada's are excellent. Could stuff myself just on those. Went to Rumba with my girlfriend mainly for the tacos, however. We ordered fish, buffalo chicken, jerk chicken, and pulled rib tacos. The tacos tasted good and I liked the tortillas, but they did not come to the table hot. They were served at close to room temperature. I expected my food to come hot so this was a major disappointment and severely affects the overall taste of the food. After ordering another round of tacos they again came to the table and were lukewarm at best! I will look for my tacos elsewhere! read more

Stopped in for dinner after a long day on the water last Wednesday for a quick bite. When we arrived, we were seaed pretty quickly. However, the bench on one side of the table was completely wet. I used my napkin to dry it off. Our waiter, brought me another when asked. He was fantastic, I wish I could remember his name. Took our drink orders quickly, brought our food out quickly, was informative when one of the items we ordered was all out. He did a good job. However, I had no idea that RUMBA was such a family friendly environment that you can let your kids do whatever they want!!! The table nextto us had 3 adults and 4 children that were completely WILD!!!! Noone (parents or staff) said anything about the kids throwing things. Thank goodness we were in and out quickly. It's amazing. Really. When you think about how much food this kitchen has to get out at every sitting. It's amazing they do it so well. And the food is so incredibly good. Definitely get the Dominican ribs. The chicken wings. The mussels. The shrimp taco. The artichoke. The corn. It's all so yummy. You'll want to keep coming back night after night. Lunch after lunch. This is such a fun place! Husband and I stopped in after a movie nearby. The atmosphere is laid back, Caribbean style for sure-reminded me of my days living-on St. Croix. What a joy to come here! If you are looking for a lively atmosphere, great food and amazing drink, all while sitting on the beach soaking up the sun... Come to Rumba!! I mean does it get any better? The drive out to the Hamptons can be a little long but the scenery on the way there is beautiful. And when you do finally arrive they have free valet parking! They valet guys are always so nice and very pleasant. When you are done eating you can take your drink and walk down to the beach that's only 10 feet away! Sit, sip and relax! I recommend the rum punch and the steak taco that is only $5! It was literally a party in my mouth, the steak is tender and marinated in heaven juice!! And the duck empamanadas are a must!! Our favorite restaurant in the Hamptons. I believe they're appetizer of Dominican ribs is the best rib I've ever tasted. My cousins from North Carolina disagree but even they have to give it a thumbs up. I love the entire menu. I love the chef. The owner has personally delivered catered food to our home. Their sister restaurant Cowfish is also a notch above everything else, but Rumba remains the best. Cowfish is a much larger establishment, and the food is also excellent. Oh Rumba, How I love thee.... This place has unfortunately gotten very well known in a short period of time. Try to go on off hours otherwise be prepared to WAIT... That being said, you're waiting for a reason. They do a spectacular job with their menu, venue and drinks. The chef/owner has really made a great place, wonderful atmosphere and yummy food in the perfect location. Hampton Bays was waiting for a nice place on the water like this that was easy to get to and not terribly expenses. So here are some details: Drinks! - They have rums from all over the place and their specialty cocktails are well made and creative. I have brought many friends to this place that are not typical drinkers or cocktail drinkers that have asked to come back for those reasons! They do not have your typical pina colada or other drinks like that so it forces you outside the comfort zone. Be uncomfortable, try something new! You will not be disappointed =) Food! - The food is just fantastic. BUT you need to know your menu. Having been here several times I have had the chance to try a little bit of everything. They clearly have dishes which are 5 stars, but they also have a few which are just 3 stars. Everything is good, but if you're going out, you want great! Talk to the staff (they are very friendly) and they'll guide you in the right direction. Their short ribs are very popular and one of the dishes I'd give 5 stars to. The tacos which you can mix and match are delicious as well. This place is great for lunch or dinner, has outside seating and reasonable prices for the Hamptons. Such an odd find on Canoe Place Road in Hampton Bays. The food is great! The restaurant seems as though it's based on the Houstons (Hillstone) model of service, and several of the menu items are almost identical. That's a good thing! The vibe is completely relaxed, on the Shinnecock Bay in Hampton Bays, drinks are great, food is great! I highly recommend! ONLY DRAWBACK: (And this is a biggie) Parking is THE worst! The Valet Parkers close the lot when it's full and make patrons drive 1 mile away to park in a dark lot and wait for "The Rumba Bus". In my opinion, Valet Parkers should be the ones going back and forth to said lot. read more

This place is a gem. Excellent food and service. Great, fun atmosphere in an unassuming location, which makes for a fun little getaway. You won't be disappointed coming here. Came with my husband and the main parking lot was full, but we were told we could park down the street and take the shuttle bus back up to the restaurant for free. Honestly, everyone should do this. Because it's not just a shuttle bus. It's a Rumbus. And it's a lot of fun to ride. Driver was friendly, funny, and got the mood going by playing reggae. So kudos for that! Now for the drinks and the food. Oh my word are they phenomenal. With a name like rum bar, you better be sure you're delivering delicious, fruity, loaded alcoholic beverages. And believe me, they deliver. I stuck to the traditional rum punch, and I could have downed a dozen of them, but I behaved. The food is sure to exceed your expectations. You must order the guacamole, the pimento cheese, and the Dominican ribs. I am not kidding when I say that these are the only items i need from the menu. i don't care about anything else. Food was good. Rum punch was very good. Only here because Cowfish is closed for a private party. The plan was to go to Cowfish, then take the boat here and back. Nope. Closed for a private party and they failed to post anything about it. So, I'm here after a 45 min drive. Check-in and use the 5% off, show the waitress and she forgets to take it off. Not worth mentioning it again to save a couple of dollars but seriously? Don't offer it and then not do it. Re: service. The waitress was not very friendly. This place is definitely worth the wait! We were referred to this place by locals. I was in town for my bachelorette party with a few friends. We came to Rumba at 9pm last Saturday. The hostess said it was going to be an hour wait, but get drinks and you can sit by the water. It is a small bar, but we ordered a pitcher of rum punches it was so relaxing and nice by the water. When we were finished, we were seated. The drinks were amazing! My friend had a sangria, but my best friend and I had blackberry jalapeño margaritas. They were so delicious! It had a hint of sweetness from the fruit and abbot of heat in the back of your throat. Since it was late we ordered apps and it was enough!! We had: double dipper-that pimento cheese is to die for, the ahi tuna-super flavorful and I love the hint of vinegar in the cabbage, duck empanadas were so delicious, and fish tacos. There was a great heat in the fish tacos: it was juicy and cooked perfectly. Service was great and even the coffee was good! There was 4 of us and we only paid $20 per person. This is now one of my favorite resturaunts! I came here on a whim for lunch. I took the long drive with no hesitation. The scenery is lovely driving out there so I did not care. The valet parking attendant is as sweet as pie. I was so happy to not have to find parking myself. The host was great at accomodating my request for a table outside. Also when we ran into 2 friends during our meal, they happily arranged tables so they can sit with us! The waitresses seemed to be young teenage girls. Probably working for the summer. They were great also. No complaints. Now onto the drinks.....The mojito was more club soda than anything else. I then ordered a rum punch, OMG! I love the mason jars that the punch is served in. We also ordered the sangria whisch was awesome! You can actually taste the red wine!!! Kudos!! Now the crab appetizer was smaller than expected but it was great. That remolaude serve with it is EPIC! We both ordered the shrimp boat, with a side of the remolaude sauce! Lol I enjoyed every bite! The shrimp were big and not overfried. My wouth salivates thinking avout it. I am an avid french fry eater & I felt that the serving of fries were a little skimpy. Thats okk, next time I will tell them to load up! The KEY LIME PIE is a gift! It topped off the meal. Rumba is absolutely fantastic! It's a shame the prices keep it on the "once in a while" rotation for us, but it's worth the splurge! Everything from the drinks to dessert are great. The rum punch packs quite a kick and isn't too sweet. If you want sweet, try the key lime pie martini! It's a slice in a glass! We've had the duck empanadas, dominican short ribs, and seared tuna as appetizers in the past. All were fantastic! The ribs are so tender, my husband has eaten the bone by mistake in the past! My favorite entree is the jerk chicken over coconut risotto. The chicken has a good amount of spice, and the risotto provides the perfect counterpoint of sweetness, as does a mango salsa. The tuna burger is also fantastic. We rarely have room for dessert, but when we have had something to share, it's been a great ending! Take the trip out to Rumba! You won't be sorry! read more
