I'm extremely picky. With that being said, I love anything with a tropical/beach theme, and I love being by the water so I'm a little biased. I have been to the best of the best, and the worst of the worst. In regards to the food, I would say its very good, not amazing but creative and well suited to the style and ambience here. My main criticism in this case is lack of consistentcy. At times one item will be fresh and tender and other times dry and old, particularly the pulled pork in the tacos. I've been here a dozen times and ordered these about 4x. Once the pork was good, the other 3 times it was like leather. The burger itself is very good,but the idea of mayo or mustard coming standard is atrocious. The only thing that even goes on a burger is ketchup. Anything else disgusts me. Its like putting a1 on a prime NY strip. A sin. Dominican ribs are great, ahi tuna very good, garlic smashed potatoes, double dip, all the salads, steak tacos all very good. The drinks are terrific, as one would expect. Rum punch, key lime martini, mojitos, margaritas were all winners. A nice environment, good service. Wait times sometimes are absurd Overall, if I were to start a restaurant it would be just like this. It embodies all the things that I love so I feel a bit biased where I'm able to look past a few flaws. I love this place, its the perfect place to come after a day at the beach or boating, spend a couple hours and unwind. It is a good fusion of what the Hampton's was, and what its become. It is well suited to us local beach bum types, and also those visiting that want the trendy hustle and bustle feel of the "new" Hampton's Regardless of where you fall, its definitely worth a try. Loud, hard to get in but good food, casual atmosphere, nice to be on the water

Well what can I say. This place is just gone down hill. I can figure out why so many people wait to get in here. It's not like they have never seen water before. My waitress never brought us silverware, we had to wait a long time for our food to come out. Once the food got there we were not impressed. I think if you are not a drinker this place is no fun. Seems like the whole restaurant revolves around drinking and if you don't have any alcohol you notice that the food isn't that good. I will not be attending this restaurant again. read more

This place is amazing. Great atmosphere and awesome food. I'm gluten intolerant and the menu here is clearly denoted with which items are gluten free and which are not. I ordered the jerk chicken tacos with a side of fried plantains. I highly recommend the plantains. They were the highlight of my meal. I have to start this review off by saying that I didn't go to Rumba's to eat. I was out east for a birthday and we were looking for a spot to grab a drink. If we were not recommended Rumba by a local friend we would have never known about it. From what I have read the food is fantastic, but again we only went for drinks. I had an amazing mojito and we all got key lime shots. A+ for overall ambience. This place has a great view and indoor and outdoor seating. Finally got around to writing this review -- went there last summer! Must've slipped my mind! My mom and I stopped by in the peak of the Season on a whim, to see if we could get a table -- not only did we get a table, we got the prime spot overlooking the water, right outside! I'm not a drinker, so I just got lemonade, but it was definitely good. Ended up getting 2 plates of tacos -- if only I remembered which ones they were, I would say so. I ate them so fast I don't think I ever found out! I think it's only fair to mention that Rumba is pretty noisy -- that's just the style of the place. I'm a quiet person, so it was a little loud for my tastes, but it didn't detract from my experience. Good time to be outside! read more

This review is WAY overdue. Went to Rumba for the first time back in March for our anniversary. We made reservations, as it was restaurant week and figured it would be crowded. As our luck would have it, the owner called me about an hour and a half before our reservation saying the power went out (there was a bad storm that day), but that they were working hard to fix the problem and that it should be done by the time we got there. We decided to take our chances and it was probably one of the best decisions we made all year. The owner greeted us upon arrival and he was super nice! Our waitress who was also bartending was attentive and very friendly. The food was out of this world!!! I got the calamari for the appetizer and my husband got the Dominican ribs. The entrees were amazing and they even gave us all of the desserts on the menu because it was our anniversary. Incredible staff, wonderful food. Highly recommended!!!!! read more

We decided to give Rumba another try after having dined there during their first month of operation last year and not being impressed. There were many issues with our food, the details of which are a bit foggy to me now but in good faith, we chalked these up to the early kinks of starting a new restaurant that we hoped would eventually be ironed out. Well, I am sorry to report that not much has changed. I am speaking strictly about the food here, as the location, the staff, and the general vibe is an enjoyable, relaxed one-- albeit you have to deal with mandatory valet parking as there is no parking onsite during dinner hours. The bottom line is that the menu is EXTREMELY OVERPRICED for the quality of food that you are receiving. I had a sliced New York strip steak that was advertised as having a Worcestershire marinade, which, at $29 was nothing you wouldn't find at home, or at T.G.I.Fridays. Sides of garlic mashed potatoes were on the bland side, and spinach that was undercooked and slightly cold. The biggest (and scariest) problem was in the appetizer-- grilled oysters. What was served to us had not been in the ocean in a very, very, very long time and unfortunately it spent even less time being cooked as it was lukewarm at best and the breading was slightly chewy-- clearly a sign of it being either frozen or prepared well ahead of time and reheated on order. I was both surprised and relieved that I did not spend the following day in the bathroom. It's the kind of thing where you can't imagine how a chef or owner can let something like this leave their kitchen. I remember the word atrocious coming to mind, which is never a good thing while you are eating. This is not to say that everything is bad at Rumba, or that the kitchen is completely inept. The Dominican ribs are fantastic! (But how hard is it to cook ribs, really?) Also, the sweet potatoes that came with them were also delicious. It would seem that if Rumba focused on these simple things that they do well, they would provide a much more consistent dining experience. The drinks/bartenders are great, although my second margarita was waaaaay too sweet. I doubt very much anything will change anytime soon at Rumba as they are always packed and why change something that is raking them in loads of dough. I just won't be eating there anymore, that's for sure. read more

I am a pretty picky Yelper who can find fault in almost anything. However, there is absolutely nothing negative I can say about Rumbas. The staff is amazing and the chef is genius, on even the most basic food. I have been there several times not only for the food, but for the fact that you feel you are vacationing in the tropics while in Long Island. Every appetizer we had was incredible; the grilled artichokes are craveable, the duck empanadas are scrumptious, the ribs are perfectly cooked and any fish item is unbelievable fresh. Definitely had a great all around experience here. We walked in around 7 pm and our party of 4 was seated in about 15 minutes. While waiting for our table I sipped on some rum sangria that was pretty tasty. It was a bit heavier than other sangria's I've had and the $40 pitcher provided about 4 Mason jars worth of drinks. It was restaurant week so I really only looked at their price fixe menu which had some great selection. I went with the grilled oysters. They basically melted in my mouth- they were VERY buttery. Others in my party got the Dominican ribs and were raving about them. For my entree I went with the mampie mahi after it being recommended by our waitress. The mashed potatoes and fried shrimp that accompanied the mahi were delectable, the shrimp being my favorite. The actual mahi left me feeling a bit disappointed with it's lack of flavor and texture. My dessert was fantastic and I wish I could remember what it was called. Two people in my party ordered the hot fudge sundae and wow, was it huge and scrumptious!!! The actual restaurant has vibes that make you feel like you're away on vacation. The views of the canal are gorgeous. Parking get be a bit of a headache. Even on this not so crowded night we needed to park a ways away and take a shuttle over and back. Oh and one super important tip, women be warned- there is only 1, yes I said 1, toilet for women to use the bathroom. read more

Came here for dinner the night of my bachelorette party and it was awesome! We had 12 girls, and we had reserved the mini bus as the back that they use as a private dining room. It was super cute, and really comfortable. It was really nice that we could be away from the rest of the Saturday night crowd. Plus the water views were amazing! The food was delicious and really reasonably priced. We got pitchers of rum punch and sangria for the table, which were both really good. And if you like key lime pie, you have to try theirs - it was one of the best I've ever had! (All of the desserts were huge, so definitely good for sharing.) Our waitress was lovely - super sweet, and made sure we had everything we needed and more. Afterwards, we sat over in the Adirondack chairs by the water and watched the sunset. Rum Punch & the coconut rice: Mmm-Mmm good!

My first thought, great vibe! The decor had an awesome feel to it. Decorated with surf boards and colorful walls, it complimented the food nicely. A reggae band was playing this particular night, and the music was quite loud, but it was good. One of the first things I noticed when we sat down was how sticky the table was, but not in the food sticky way, but the weird polish way. The food was spectacular, I had ordered the jerk chicken taco, the pulled rib taco, the the steak taco. The rib and steak taco were awesome, but the jerk chicken taco was a little dry. I noticed the cocktails were served in mason jars, which I thought was very creative. Along with the mason jars, the ceiling fans were peculiar, instead of spinning horizontally, they spun vertically, which was interesting. Close to the bar they had a longboard as a table standing on tiki heads, for extra bar space. Great use of theme! Location, location, location! The view from the patio was amazing, even though we didn't sit outside, the view was visible from almost anywhere in the restaurant. You had a beautiful view of the Shinneacock Canal, and the colors from the sunset reflecting off the clouds. A well deserved, four stars. read more

Went there last night for the first time of the season. . We went early because with the summer crowds it can be Overwhelmingly busy. I like the vibe here and usually the drinks are good but my dirty martini was just ok. The service was good. We ordered the tuna appetizer which was nice. I have been going to Rumba for years and have yet to be disappointed. The food, drinks, and views are amazing. If you go and like margaritas, be sure to try the Prickly Pear. It is so delicious and more tart than sweet. As for the food, I particularly love the dip duo (guacamole and pimento cheese), the fish tacos, scallop salad, and key lime pie for dessert! So good! Parking can be a bit tricky but there is valet or a bus to shuttle you to a nearby lot. Overall, a great experience. The manager, Craig, was so sweet and is always so nice and helpful. read more

I love this place - first of all, the food is great: for those of you who like artichokes, and even if you don't, you have to try the grilled artichoke appetizer. We only ordered one for the two us, and it was a mistake. The crab cake salad was refreshing, with slices of grapefruit and avocado. My boyfriend had the jerk chicken with coconut rice, and although the chicken could have more of a kick, the flavor profile was perfect, having all the different levels that a good jerk should have. Second, the drink list: Besides the page of rums, they have an awesome rum punch served in mason jars, and you can get it in pitchers for the table (dangerous). The mojito is served with a real sugar-cane stick, always a sign of a higher-quality restaurant. Finally, the view: We went for lunch, so we sat out on the deck while we ate, overlooking the bay. Afterwards, we took our mason jars of punch down to the dock and relaxed in the seating made available. This is my idea of the perfect water-side restaurant, relaxing view, yummy drinks, and a menu that's different than the same old seafood establishment. read more

Been here a bunch of times now. Opened this summer and was an instant hit. Hampton Bays has no other establishments like Rumba, and it's clearly working as evidenced by the consistent hour-long wait. The tacos are the only dish that stands out for me, but the whole menu is somewhat unique (Caribbean and Cajun flavors) and certainly above average. It's a bit pricey, but nothing outrageous by Hamptons standards. read more

This place is a 'scene' that happens to be a restaurant. Food was tasty. Drinks were good. But it's way too popular - on site valet parking only and a shuttle bus to another parking lot. And reservations are useless because even though I arrived in time for a 6:30 reservation, they refused to seat me until the entire party arrived. Then we had to wait another 20 minutes for a table. Knowing that we were coming made no difference to them. If you are into serious dining, 'forget about it'. This place is a glorified bar. read more
