I have been eating here for years and liked it because you could come from Santa Cruz, park for free, eat in peace without running into panhandlers along the mall while going out to eat. The food is OK, prices a little high, and I don't like how there are two TVs n the dining room. But, I would still come back until last week. After my last dinner there, I'll never go back! I went out with my husband to eat and we ordered 2 beers and 2 rolls. I had to take out the shellfish from both rolls because I have a shellfish allergy. We got the beers and then our waitress returned to inform us that there is a $2.00 charge to substitute the fish on the rolls. I asked to speak to a manager, a younger woman came over an informed us that yes, even to remove ingredients it would be a $4.00 charge total. She said that was her mom's rule. We could see the mom because the dining room is very small and asked if we could talk to her. We waited and expected her to come and say what roll would be similar, or that there was a misunderstanding. But instead she just walked up threw the check on our table for the 2 beers and walked off! I was shocked! I apologized to the waitress, paid the bill and we left to go to the sushi place down by Scotts Valley Market. (Bigger Rolls, GREAT service, and lower prices) Sadly, I will never go to Rumble Fish again. read more

Pretty cool place, nice fresh food and fun chef. I think the chef was the best part of the experience. He was yelling things in a playful manor and I think he must be a Samurai. The pork katsu was a bit dry though. read more

I wanted this place to be good. Once we were seated it started off ok. The soda was by the cab which was eh. Once we ordered the edamame came out fast and was very good. The rolls we ordered came out like 2 min after the app which was strange, we had 3 kids with us and had ordered them bento boxes. These came out over 20 min after all our other food. If you have kids you know this is a complete disaster as the kids were Hungary and had nothing to do for about 30 min. On top of that the chicken and beef in the kids meals were totally charred/burned do that they tasted like charcoal. There are 2 stars cuz they remade the mean after I asked. We left once the meat came back out. The table next to us had the same thing happen with one of there kids meals. Won't be going back read more

We used to be regulars at Rumble Fish. We'd gone only one other time since they changed ownership and weren't overly impressed. We decided to give it one more go, so on 1/31/18, my parents, husband, and I went. We were seated in the middle of the loud room approximately 2-3 inches from the table next to us. The first server who asked if we wanted something to drink gave us a few seconds to respond and then said, "I'll come back" and walked away w/o taking our order. My husband requested no dressing on his salad, which came w/dressing. He handed it back to the server, and she said, "You want less dressing?...You want more dressing?" My husband said, "I want no dressing." The food was decent but not great, except for the katsu sauce, which they make very well. It was honestly so loud that we had to shout to hear each other sitting 18 inches across from each other. We will not be going back. read more

Great food..... The worst service I have had in some time. Wish my experience would have been different because the food is so good. Not sure if I will go back. As I left I could tell that even the chef's were a little embarrassed. I ordered my food to go and when it was ready another waitress had to get the food off the sushi bar counter. My food sat for almost 10 min before I had to ask for a to go bag so that I could bag up my own food and take home. I gave a 20% tip and left for most likely the last time. read more

We have been satisfactorily eating Rumble Fish sushi to go for a long time but decided to grab lunch today and eat there. They seemed a little busy but not too bad. Eventually our server came to our table. As we began to order our lunch she tapped our table and moved to take the order of the table next to ours, in the middle of our sentence without any verbal explanation. My wife and I looked at each other wondering what that was all about. We waited for several minutes more and our server never re-appeared. Disappointedly we walked out, passing her she looked at us as if she couldn't care less. Unfortunately for Rumble Fish there are other excellent sushi choices in the area. read more

The sushi is great, the service is good and the prices are right. From the moment you walk in the door and are greeted like a family member returning home. They have a small roll that is spicy tuna, avacado and is deep fried that they usually give me free of charge. I think everyone gets the little free roll. Just tried this restaurant for the first time. The whole staff seemed really on top of the service. There was a small mixup when the check came, but the problem was very quickly corrected with apologies that our server was new. The food was delicious. My daughter is still deciding if she likes sushi so she ordered a simple crab roll that she was happy with. She also loved the Luna roll and the Rink Roll. I also ordered a spicy tuna and a kimchee roll. I liked it all and we were happy with our sushi feast. Being local, we usually go to Otoro when in the mood for sushi but after going on the recommendation of a long time local, Rumble Fish is def competition for our favorite sushi in town. read more

My husband and I have always loved Rumble Fish. Seriously the best sushi!! All rolls are amazing, the fish is the best quality and it always so good. They have set our standards when going to other places. Unfortunately our last visit the service took away from the amazing sushi. Our waitress seated us, then seemed to forget about us, and it wasn't very busy for a Sunday afternoon. After we were at our table for about 10 minutes she came back and took our food order, but forgot about asking for a drink order. We had to stop her from leaving to ask for ice tea. That can be somewhat over looked, until we noticed our rolls were up but she didn't notice for about another 10 minutes. When she did bring our order, we ordered another roll (figured we would go ahead and save some time), got that right away, then didn't see her again for the rest of the visit. The other waiter in the restaurant took over, including making sure we had our drinks refilled. We will go back, we had never had a bad experience before, I am hoping this was just a fluke thing, we love their sushi. read more

Genjo-san, the Sushi master, has turned the old Scotts Valley Aoi Japanese restaurant into a Top-Notch Sushi Bar and Japanese restaurant. The fish quality and selection is EXCELLENT. I've been eating sushi for 19+ years and I would rank this sushi with the best the west coast has to offer. I recommend anyone in Santa Cruz county looking for GREAT sushi to check this place out. So I came here not expecting anything at all. I've heard mixed reviews about this place so I had to check it out myself. When we first walk in, we are greeted right away and seated quickly. So far, so good. Our hostess gives us the menus and eventually the waitress comes and asks us what we want. We ask what the specials are and what local favorites are and she replies with,'"It's really up to you." -- Instant fail in my book... So we order our food and start looking around and realize that the place is pretty small, hot, and our drinks have been taking quite some time. We get our drinks and everything is good until all of a sudden, we see an older lady (owner?) start yelling at an employee in front of everyone!!! shes yelling in Japanese or Korean and then a chef starts doing the same. The entire restaurant felt the vibes and 2 tables got up and left and the rest of our meal was awkward. At the end, the food was decent. It's what i expect from a sushi restaurant but it wasn't great or memorable. The prices were kind of high too. Do I recommend this place? No... Yamamori a mile up north is WAYYY better. I just had my aniversary dinner moments ago with my boyfriend and left angrily because the "speacials" board for their roles was miss leading. I ordered the jungle role wich turned out to be way too spicy! it kinda dis-rupted my experience because my mouth would not stop burning! so I suggest that they write spicy next to the item. it was just you basic shrimp tempura rolled in rice and sea weed with some lettuce and sauce thrown on top (both shrimp and lettuce being VERY inexpensive )and was charged 16$ for it! I was shocked to see the amount of the bill. They did give us a few freebies that were nice, everything was fresh and tasty but the "speacials didnt have the prices next to them wich would have been helpful so I could budget my meal a bit better. Food is always really good and the owner is a super nice human being. My only regret is when I call in orders the lady who usually answers should not have that task. Her broken english has messed up my orders multiple times and made it insanely difficult to want to call in for take out. Other than that this place is wonderful. read more

Came here on a Tuesday evening, it was busy I have to say. We were sat fairly quickly. After 10 minutes we started to look around to identify our server. Staff was walking around with no urgency and no apparent destiny. Eventually someone showed up at our table to take our order. Food did not take too long. 20min is acceptable for a busy kitchen. Tempura, night I rolls not bad. Wenn we asked our waiter to bring an extra plate for the sashimi platter. She never came back with the plate. And I won the bet that she would not return. Eventually she returned with the check and I let her know that we didn't need the plate anymore. read more
