I was hesitant to try an "hotel" restaurant, but the ocean views from the dining room online looked awesome. So, we gave it a try, and I am glad we did. Valet parking is free at the hotel. Our server was Jonny; he was welcoming and friendly. Our first round of cocktails was not to our liking. We told Jonny and took care of it and brought back perfectly made Manhattans. He made the evening even more enjoyable. The food was Excellent. There is a section of the menu where you can pick two entrées and are then served a half portion of each. Three of the guests at our table had the duo. They all enjoyed them and the lamp rack was the clear stand out. I had the filet. It was perfectly cooked. She had a beautiful voice and a full complement of music. I definitely recommend nice pants or shorts and button down shirt for men. No sandals. Ladies were wearing nice sun dresses or short sets. We were a party of five. We all ordered drinks from wine to fancy cocktails. All drinks were made to perfection and delivered quickly considering the number of people dining or getting a drink from the bar. The food was well made and tested good, but the portions are small. We ordered appetizers, which was a good choice since the portions are small. We had orders for chicken, steak, and lamb. Everything was presented well and paired very well with the sides. For dessert, the affogato was pretty basic, while the baked Kauai was very sweet but still enjoyable. The staff was attentive and friendly, and I appreciated being seated in a booth with an ocean view after requesting it. The live music and lively atmosphere added to the evening, and parking was easy with both valet and self-park options. Great views . Be sure to ask for a table by the window to capture them. The restaurant is laid out in sort of a horseshoe with a huge bar occupying the center, tables surrounding. We arrived at 6 for the sunset. As a previous reviewer noted the better tables seemed to be held for the hotel customers. I made the reservation 90 days in advance specifying that we were celebrating a birthday . We did not have a card on the table wishing us a Happy Birthday. And other than the waiter asking us if we were going to order a bottle of champagne and a verbal wish for a happy birthday by the hostess who seated us and the waiter that was it. It was shocking as the other restaurants of that caliber had a card on the table, a verbal wish and a complimentary dessert. Some were elaborate like Hualines or Keloki"s Paradise and others at least presented chocolate truffles on a special plate. When we left I talked to waiter to say that their lack of acknowledgment of special occasions was appalling for a restaurant of that caliber. As far as ambiance goes the noise level the bar which occupied a goodly part of the room increased as the evening went on so basically we gave up trying to have a conversation. I found it odd that other tables had a container of nibbles like nuts and crackers with the recipe of how to make the seasoning attached. We were not given any. When I questioned the waiter as to why we did not have the complimentary mix he said "well some people don't like them".???? Shouldn't" we have been asked or presented with them as advertised? Odd. The only reason I gave this restaurant 4 stars was because of the views and the food was AMAZING! They have something called a duo where if you are having difficulty choosing between two items for a nominal fee ie $10 you can get two half portions. They are a goodly size, ample for 2. Or if your appetite or party is larger they have a quad. This place was expensive but very good. I got the vegan entree tofu and sweet potato mash, it was excellent and the tofu was also great . It didn't feel like an afterthought dish. The whole table loved their food, the goat cheese appetizer went over well. Then the service was excellent, the woman who served us was chopper and had the right attitude to provide service. Which I chose I got the butterfish and braised short rib. Both of them were fantastic. I would probably eat more of the short rib than the fish. But both had amazing flavors. The reason why they are not getting a five-star review. Is because it felt like a mix of atmospheres on one hand. The table was set up for a romantic style but then there was a bar with a TV and it gave it a sports bar feel. It was very loud on top of that it also had a live performer. She was amazing! We chose Rumfire, since it was our last evening in Kauai and our anniversary. What a disappointment! My partner ordered a ribeye steak that was so extremely fatty, he could not cut into it. After deciding to return it, we told the waiter (Greg) and he looked perplexed as-to what he should do. We finally got a different cut of steak, which was brought by a different waiter who sarcastically said "hope this is to your liking". Separately, there was a screaming toddler across from us, who (another) waiter didn't do anything about. Really? Love it! We ordered cocktails, a salad (the one with crab and it was so tasty!) and did the option to split 4 mains which is a great concept to be able to try more items. The Rum Fire Poipu Beach has all the trappings of being higher end of the dining range. The service was attentive and very helpful. The facility was nicely appointed and the views were quite good, see my pics. As you can see from my food pics, they excelled at their presentation. We started with their popcorn with furikake seasoning. As you can see it has plenty of salt, crunch and flavor - a perfect match with wine (see in the background). We then moved onto a respectable Ceviche Flight, see pic. This was quite good. We liked the variety and appropriate size for an evening of dining. It was all fresh and unique. We then shared the North Shore Salad. It was also super fresh and bright, see my pic. It was basic and straight-forward. We ended our meal with the Boneless Short Rib, see my pic. While it looked great and the braising jus was savory, it had more fat than meat. This was super disappointing. A very inconsistent meal here. Our table ordered the Brussel sprouts and the mussels as appetizers. Brussel sprouts were very good. After we placed our order for the steamed mussels the server informed us that it would be a mixture of mussels and clams. When the dish came out, it was all clams, no mussels at all. They were very good and the curry sauce they were steamed in was yummy, but it just wasn't what we initially ordered. I ordered the fresh catch fish, which was very disappointing. The fish itself was very fresh tasting, but it was overcooked to the point of being dry. It was also bland and seemed to be unseasoned. It sat on a bed of purple sweet potato with a fresh succotash mixture on the side. The vegetables must have been plated long before the fish was ready because the potatoes and vegetables were no longer even warm, which was an unpleasant combo with the overcooked, bland fish. There was a sauce on the side, but not nearly enough considering the dry slab of tasteless fish sitting on top of cold potatoes. Others at the table ordered the lamb chops and steaks. The lamb chops were delicious and those at our table with steaks seemed very happy with them. Our server forgot to bring the drinks to 2 of the 6 people in our party. She did offer to remove the mussels from the bill due to the error in preparing this dish. Atmosphere was extremely loud, there was a singer in the bar area with the volume turned up high. That combined with the large bar area open to the restaurant made it so loud that it was nearly impossible to carry on a conversation in the dining area. It is a fairly pricey restaurant. While the ambiance is amazing and beautiful, some of the food is lacking. I really enjoyed the crusted wasabi fish with asparagus. My husband was not a fan of the cuts of meat he received. The staff was very attentive, very brave as they asked us why we were not happy. The new chef has to stick to this menu for now, but he assured us he has many ideas and changes on the horizon. This was our first night back on the island for our honeymoon after a full day of travel, and we chose RumFire because it's usually a reliable favorite. We both ordered steaks, but unfortunately they were overwhelmed with an excessive amount of sauce. It completely overpowered the meat and made both dishes unenjoyable, especially considering the price point. We let our waitress know, and she was kind and said she would pass the feedback along to the kitchen. The hostess and our waitress were both friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. That said, the steaks themselves were not good, and for the cost, the quality just wasn't there this time. I am usually wary of the hotel restaurants, but the Rumfire menu looked interesting, and the experience did not disappoint. The restaurant is designed for every table to have an ocean view, though if you're looking to catch the sunset, you might not have a direct eyeline between the various pillars and spaces. Brussels Sprouts - Decadent, almost a meal in itself with generous amounts of Portuguese sausage. I've been used to delicately crispy sprouts at my Vegas steakhouses - these were slathered in a creamy miso sauce that might not work for everyone, but was a nice change for me. Misoyaki Butterfish - described as the restaurant specialty, it was absolutely delicious and I cleaned my plate, which I rarely do. After enjoying the hefty servings at the fish markets during the day, there is an exchange on portion size with fine dining at night, but the presentation was excellent. Ribeye - Partner had the ribeye and did not really love it. Just not the best cut, couldn't get through it. Cocktails - find the head bartender, Noel, who created many of the specialty cocktails and is simply a master mixologist. I thought his Kauai Old Fashioned was amazing, until he introduced me to the Barrel Aged Old Fashioned, which was out of this world. Mai Tai, Blue Hawaiian, Watermelon Martini, and Last Chance all shined for us as well (tried over several nights). We ended our honeymoon on Kauai with dinner at RumFire, and it was the perfect way to close out our trip. We booked a same-day reservation for 7:30. When we arrived, the hostess congratulated us right away and seated us promptly. Even though it wasn't an ocean view table, we were very happy with what we got. The booth was next to a large window overlooking the fire features, and it felt private and comfortable. Our server, James, was outstanding. He was friendly, professional, and had a great attitude. He brought us a small popcorn and pretzel snack as soon as we sat down, which was a nice touch. He checked in on us just enough without hovering and clearly knew what he was doing. We started with the Brussels sprouts, which were excellent. I've had Brussels sprouts many times over the years, and these were some of the best I've ever eaten. I ordered the lamb, which was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My wife had the filet, which came out exactly as she requested. She also ordered asparagus on the side. We both enjoyed a glass of Dao Cabernet, which paired well with our meals. For dessert, we shared a cheesecake and a baked Kauai. Both were outstanding and a great way to end the evening. There are only two small things that could make the experience even better. When we made the reservation, they asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. The restaurant had a contemporary decor overlooking the ocean. Beautiful view when sitting at a window seat. Could be considered romantic if dining during sunset. Service was good . My server was very attentive. Always checking on me. He made several recommendations for items I was looking at on the menu. The popcorn and rice cracker table munchie was delicious and addictive. I liked that they shared the spice mix recipe. Very clever idea. I ordered the Brussels sprouts at an appetizer. They were served with Portuguese sausage which I thought was odd but it ended up a good combination. I ordered the sea scallops for my entree. The scallops were huge and presented on a bed of farro. Very tasty and filling. I would recommend. Reservations would be a good idea. I had a reservation but didn't really need it for the earlier dinner seating. read more

Highly recommend RumFire at sunset! Views are absolutely breathtaking. Floor to ceiling windows and watch the waves roll in. We had excellent service. Staff was incredibly friendly and really seemed to enjoy working there. The executive chef was out on the floor frequently and he personally delivered my meal (the duck breast special of the night) and later checked in on us. Husband had the burger, which he loved. Their French fries are some of the best I've ever had. I would go back just for the fries. Only slight downside was that the food took a really long time, but it was worth it! read more

Talking with folks around the bar they are at the top of the list of why folks keep coming back. Food is excellent and great atmosphere. Fantastic views.
