I ended the conversation and walked down the street to where the crew was still working on my neighbor's yard. What started out as $49 quickly turned into $125 for snaking and when the tech couldn't unclog the the pipe he recommend their hydro or descaling treatment. Both options were over $1000. I thanked and tipped him for his time and moved onto plan B, search Yelp. Only Plumbing caught my eye and felt like a local Mom and Pop shop. called and ended up speaking to Oscar who's approach was kind, gentle and was super knowledgeable giving out many free tips and advice. He laid out all the option we can try and was available later in the evening if I can wait. My stressed and impatient self wanted someone out sooner rather than later so try searching online hoping for a fix by dinner. Well this was a bus when the second guys showed up, looked at the situation and went right into recommended hydro-jetting at a super high cost of over $2000. Thanked and tipped him for his time. Remembering Oscar's advice to descale instead of hydro-jet because of the liability from the second floor I knew at this point i needed to take a deep breath, say serenity now and wait for Oscar to be available. I had a clog in my bathroom sink…read more had VIP sewer come out to do a snake but the associates came in so hot right out the gate on blatant upsells and "issues" that could not be resolved with just a snake. even so far to point out that there's teflon tape on the pipes that can't be replaced / they don't the specialty tape... TEFLON tape?! hahaha i ain't stupid. once they snaked and was not able to get through, they said that the next step was to find the clog in the wall open the wall cut out the pipe and replace (a 1.5k+ job) i asked if there were any other options like hydro-jetting or such and they said hydro jetting would spew out everywhere not able to be done second floor i did my due diligence and called a few contractors that knew plumbers that werent on yelp a guy came in the next day, hydro-jetted the clog out in 30 minutes without needed to do any of the above, and only charged me $60 lol beware of the upsell! + though, since they did not get the clog out they did not charge me, just off putting on the blatant upsell. the owner seemed nice though.
