Russell Chimney to the rescue! I needed a cap installed and the damper replaced at the request of the person buying my house as a stipulation for the purchase and closing process... at the beginning of what I learned was essentially "chimney season," meaning I was getting quoted about a month out for service when I only had about 2.5 weeks until the closing date. Whoops. They were actually nice enough to help us out and seemed to be the only ones willing to work with us and our short deadline. I got a lot of "good luck! Why don't you try _________?" which was not helpful at all. They quickly got our cap ordered within a week and came and finished the work as soon as it came in. Their work is top notch, but equally important they are super helpful explaining what was going on and offering maintenance ideas. They didn't try to upsell and did a great job repairing our chimney. I have used Dan and Russell Chimney several times on our house, and can say nothing but positive things about them. Our chimney was the nesting grounds each year for a flock of birds, and they put on a custom-fit cap over the chimney. No more birds coming into the house! Next year, they came out and repaired some bricks that had fallen, flashing problems that was causing leaks, and mortar fixes- and they weather sealed the chimney. This is a family owned business and you can tell! The foreman (original owner's son) came out first and spoke with us for an hour answering any questions we had about our fireplace, even unrelated to the specific job he was doing in the chimney. He then sent his team over who were lovely. They were skilled and super nice guys. They went above and beyond and it was less expensive then the original bid due to flashing being in a good state. They are super honest and helpful! They even lent us a chimney hood until we figure out what we do with the fireplace (gas/wood, insert or not). Highly recommend! read more

I bought my house a few months ago. The inspector found a lot of chimney issues. My real estate agent called Russell Chimney to come give a bid. They came out quickly and got the estimate done. I called a month ago to get the work done but also asked if they could fix some sagging masonry on the front of the house. The receptionist said she would send someone out to look at the masonry and would set an appointment for the last week in April to get the chimney fixed. As far as I know, nobody showed up to look at the masonry. If they did, they never got in touch with me about the estimate. The appointment day came and went. Nobody showed up for the appointment and nobody called. I left them a message that wasn't returned. I got a hold of the receptionist today who said she would call me right back and let me know why nobody showed up. She never called back. I can't speak to how good their work is because I can't get anyone to come out and do anything. The receptionist hasn't done anything she promised she would do. I'm kind of worried about using this company. If they're this unreliable now, how are they going to be after the work is done? What if I have a problem with their work? Am I going to keep getting the runaround? I'm going to pick another company and hope for more reliable service. read more

Called to get an estimate and was told that they would be out in a couple days to give bid, they were to e-mail bid, never received it contacted them by phone and left a message about getting the bid, never heard back from them via phone or e-mail. I scheduled an estimate with these people. When they didn't show within the 2 hour window they gave me, I called. The receptionist explained the crew was on a call due to bad weather. I asked her to find out as soon as possible when they could come to do the estimate. She agreed and never called back. There's no way I'm giving money/having work done on my house by someone that flakey. read more

I want to add to the kudos for this business. My son had just bought a house in Portland and it needed a lot of work. We knew hardly anybody but did get a recommendation for this company. I had an estimate from another business that was nearly twice as much for not as much work. Russell came when scheduled and kept me updated prior to coming. They gave me a firm bid while explaining everything they would do and why. Before they came to do the work, they suggested I ask the neighbor to close her windows on the side of the house facing mine to avoid any dust from drifting in. They discovered additional problems with the chimney, fixed those problems, and asked if it was okay to charge me for the parts...all of $25. Four generations of the same family and what a nice family. From the estimator, office staff and work crew really super people. Don't bother with anyone else, call Russell.
