Orbit has performed quite a few services for us over the past year. Each and every time they have been great at all the things you want from a contractor - clear communication, transparent pricing, follow-up and follow-through. First, we finally pulled the trigger in 2020 on installing air conditioning. We got a few quotes from various contractors but Orbit was both competitive and came personally recommended. Also their schedule worked well for us. They were great at answering all of our questions (we don't know a lot about AC, so I'm sure we asked some dumb ones) and helping us pick the right unit. From accepting the quote forward, they were great about communicating with us, getting us on their schedule, and then installing the unit. This included laying down a concrete square base, running a line through an older home (with a lot of challenges along the way) and adding the coil to our furnace. It was tough work early in the COVID times, but they did it in a safe and efficient manner, despite running into some old-home roadblocks. Since the install, we have put them on contract for annual maintenance of both our furnace and AC. The furnace maintenance is the one that has been completed so far (AC coming soon!) and it was again a great experience. I recommended Orbit to the tenant in my rental as well, and her experience with them was same as mine - good, clear, honest quote, solid communication, ready to answer any questions about the ins and outs of the quote. Our AC stopped working mid-heat wave, and I called Orbit, who had repaired & maintained it, but they were too busy to come anytime soon. I called around until I found someone who was available sooner. BIG MISTAKE. Totally incompetent and greedy ripoff. Ultimately called Orbit & just waited - but they actually fixed the problems, for way less than the original company charged to break it further. And they're incredibly lovely people, too. Initially they were responsive if a bit discombobulated. Scheduled a visit to my house to assess the possibility of new AC install. They talked alot about the ins and outs of units and install and seemed to know their business... and at the end of visit made promises of a bid, of maintenance, gave me a ball park number - and promised to throw in this and that.. instead what I did receive a day or two later was a phone call to tell me that my house was not up to code (even though its a new construction, has approval from the city and all of its permits) and didn't offer any explanation as to what exactly was the problem (when initially on site i was promised an email with the pictures they took and a summary along with the bid). I called again to ask if they were going to send me an explanation as promised but received a bunch of excuses and then silence. No other contractor that I had out had an issue with the house or permits, On the exterior of the house the distance to the outdoor disconnect was short to the location meant for the AC but not something that couldn't be fixed. . If they didn't want the job they could have just told me so instead of creating confusion, having a poor attitude on the phone, over promising, not delivering and then leaving me in the dust. read more

Great experience, especially for someone who hates making phone calls :) I submitted the form on their site, Shannon got back to me quickly and we were able to set up an appointment with just a few emails. My tech Emily was very punctual, super nice and knowledgeable, explained everything I needed to know (and more), with no pressure. Paying online afterwards was also a breeze, and exactly what they quoted. The whole process was basically like 3 emails and a text (when Emily was on the way), which worked perfectly for a weirdo telephobic person like me. My actual service was only a simple central furnace maintenance & cleaning (with no issues), so not really a big deal, although based on this I plan on setting up regular yearly checkups for my heat & AC. read more

I so scored on finding these guys: Had a rental unit who's furnace died. I called them on a Wednesday eve at like 9pm, they called me at 8am the next morning. Travis came out about 3pm. He advised me that I needed a new furnace and had it installed on Monday. Couldn't have been more pleased!!! Literally, I have no coonections, so if I need help I'm looking on Yelp just crossing my fingers. This one was a super winner. read more

These guys are the best. They go above and beyond. They are great people, they do great work, and they are very reasonably priced. We have had them install a bathroom fan and vent it through the roof, install a/c, and install our nest thermostat. We first had them out to service our furnace and Travis looked at it and said it was just fine, no charge. Awesome. We won't call anyone else. If I could give Orbit Heating and Cooling 10 stars I would! The customer service was THE definition of what outstanding customer service is. When I called after waking up to no heat in my new house, their team was so genuine, polite, professional, understanding, friendly and helpful. I had called several companies with the glim hope that someone could offer a same day service call, to no avail. The person I spoke with wasn't sure they could help, but offered to see if they could squeeze me in. Jennifer contacted me within a few minutes and said she would see if the owner, Travis could fit me in at the end of the day. If not, she offered to give me some other companies to call to help me resolve the issue with my heat in the same day. Luckily, she was able to schedule an appointment for me. From start to finish, I received text messages with updates on time of arrival. Travis recognized the problem immediately, repaired and also serviced the heater, which needed to be done, so I would not have to make an additional appointment. As a consumer, home owner and small business owner, I would highly recommend this company. read more

When we called Travis for a bid on our new furnace, and he came over on the same day to have a look at our existing unit and price a replacement for us. As new homeowners, we wanted to get a number of bids for the job from a variety of different contractors, from personal referrals to Yelp! superstars. After five others, we still hadn't found anyone who touched Travis's price or his knowledge. He knew a lot about our existing unit, had a great deal of expertise about furnaces in general, and led us in the right direction at every turn. He was also extremely communicative, whether by email or over the phone or text. In the end, we got the best unit at a price better than all the usual suspects, and the install was done flawlessly. Travis told me, "I do good work. It's going to look good when I'm done, I can assure you," and boy was he right. He takes pride in the job, took good care of our space, and we're enjoying a wonderfully high-efficiency furnace over this latest Portland cold spell. Use Travis, but don't spread the word too far and wide. We may want him back for other HVAC projects... read more

This year has been a litany of homeownership woes, and several of our Realtor friends pointed us in Travis' direction. And thank goodness, because just today he managed to save us over $500 on a way overpriced bid to fix an issue with our furnace. With the real estate market booming, contractors are capitalizing on a surplus of jobs and the general person's inexperience with what needs to be fixed, how, and for what price, and we've been burned in the past. Thank the baby Jesus for Travis, who is: responsive, friendly, fast, honest, and helpful. He's also just a super nice person with an oldschool approach to work ethic. Cannot recommend or thank him enough for helping us out of a bind (it's cold, and we're not wealthy), but don't want to recommend him *too* much just in case he's too busy to help us the next time we have an issue. We had a terrible experience with Orbit. Their intake process was onerous and confusing. Ultimately they failed to call and show up when they promised. The staff was rude and dismissive. I would go with AAA or Wolfer's, who were professional and fair in pricing. read more

I wanted to like these guys. They came highly recommended. But when they came out to diagnose the problem with my heat pump and then I couldn't even get a call back to schedule or evaluate my options 16 days later...I had to start over and call several other companies. I wasn't in a huge hurry, but more than two weeks without even getting an update? I think that's pretty poor. read more

Update: i had Atemp come out to service my A/C, and they were able to determine the source of the furnace leak. They found 3 points of leaks at the joints on the PVC pipes leading to the outside (exhaust flue?). They said they had not been glued together well upon install, and they quoted me $693 to redo all the PVC. They said clear glue was used, and that their company doesn't use clear glue anymore because it's hard to determine if it's been glued properly. I contacted Jennifer to let her know and she scheduled Travis, the owner, to come out to fix the issue the next morning. Upon seeing the issue, Travis admitted they had not done a good job in gluing the PVC, and he replaced all of it. He worked very hard and it took only about an hour, and now no more leak. I wish none of this had happened to begin with, but Jennifer and Travis did act quickly once i told them what the issue was, and they made it right. In addition, they have offered me free services/cleanings on my furnace for the next 4 years. I have given Orbit multiple chances to earn a better review. They have disappointed nearly every step of the way. In Dec of 2017, my furnace died, and i contacted Orbit for a bid for repair/replacement. Travis, the owner, came out and reviewed my options with me, and i decided to replace the furnace and agreed to the bid. He told me the job would take about 2 days, and could begin the next day. What he failed to mention is that he would not be the one doing the work--that his senior father, a retired HVAC technician, and one of his senior friends showed up to do the work. I was a bit put off by this, since it wasn't ever mentioned that Travis wasn't the one coming back to do the work, but his father seemed to have a lot of experience and knowledge and i was appreciative to have the job being done so quickly, so i kept my mouth shut. I didn't question if they were licensed to do the work, and i never complained when they bumped into and broke an antique glass frame. I definitely should have said something then, but didn't. The job was done, and about a year and a half later i emailed Jennifer again to have Travis come back out to give me a quote on an A/C unit. Travis scheduled with me 3x--he cancelled all three times. Actually, that's not exactly true--he didn't even have the courtesy to cancel--one of the times i took off work early and called him when he was 20 minutes late and i was sitting at home waiting for him. That's when he explained he was stuck at another job, and wouldn't come out today. He had absolutely no respect for my time, whatsoever. I ended up having my A/c installed by A-Temp. They did a great job and i'm very happy with the results. But the saga unfortunately doesn't end there. I noticed a leak on my basement floor coming from my furnace a couple of weeks ago. I emailed Jennifer with photos and asked if someone could please come out and look at it. I'd never ask Orbit again, except there's a 10 year warranty on some of the parts of the furnace (i'd have to look up specifically which), and obviously there's an issue if i'm having a leak just over 2 years after it was installed. Jennifer was quick to reply and asked what would work for me in terms of schedule. I gave her some options and she wrote that she'd discuss with Travis and get back to me with an appointment time. That was 10 days ago--she's never gotten back to me. All the while, water is pooling on my basement floor. I have made an appointment with another company to come out. I will likely be following up with a BBB complaint--they obviously cannot guarantee their work if i can't even get them to show up--this whole experience feels like some sort of bait and switch. I feel i gave them multiple chances, and held off in writing this review for so long because Travis and Jennifer seem to be genuinely nice people, and i'm not interested in trying to hurt anyone's small business. But they really need to treat their customers better--communicate clearly, SHOW UP, or at the very least, call to cancel appointments if they can't, and get back to people in a reasonable amount of time. I unfortunately cannot recommend Orbit to anyone. read more

I was dreading dealing with getting an A/C unit installed but had a friend recommend Orbit and couldn't have been more pleased by the service. The pricing was more than fair and Travis was completely straight forward and honest with me. The work was done quickly, cleanly and they didn't leave until they were sure everything was working smoothly. And it was just in time for the few 100 degree days we had. The only problem I've had is no concept of how hot it is when I leave the house. I plan on using Orbjt going forward and it's nice to have someone I trust to reach out to for heating/cooling needs. read more

As part of a larger remodel, Travis recently relocated the furnace, gas line, and replaced the majority of ducting in our basement. We hired Travis because he was the only HVAC contractor we met with that actually took the time to run calculations and fully-scope the project before delivering us a bid. His prices also seemed fair during a time when other contractors we spoke with were asking for significant premiums due to market demand. Having hired and managed contractors for the past 7 years, we have high standards. We were pleasantly surprised with Travis's work. His work was meticulous, and he took the time to do things right where others might have cut corners. As a bonus, Travis and his father were a pleasure to work with. They were very conscientious, we enjoyed their personalities, and always felt comfortable with them in our home. read more

These guys were great and I've recommended them to many friends since. They replaced our very old furnace and put in an a/c unit. They came out to look at the job and wrote up a proposal with a couple of options within a day or two. We scheduled the work pretty soon thereafter and they were polite, efficient, and got the job done in two days. The inspector was very impressed with their work.
