I'm giving 4 stars for the coffee, but I would give them 2 stars for the event space experience. First on the regular Rustbelt Experience: the coffee is great, the price is right on point with every other independent on coffee shop in the area. It's a very cool vibe, the staff are friendly, the space has an industrial unique feel. I would definitely come here for coffee, a meeting, or to hang with friends. As an an event space for rent 1-2 stars. When I write an event space, I don't expect to be catered to or to have an assigned event, space attendant, but at the very least they could remove the garbage and offered to help arrange tables and chairs, etc. If I pay for an event space, I don't think our guests should have to take out the garbage. We rented on a very busy Saturday morning, we had zero accommodation day of. It was weird to even ask for ice or for water for our drink table. The space is VERY dark. The large windows likely provide a lot of natural light, but one thing about Ohio winters... They are short on sunshine! The overhead industrial lights are high into the ceiling, which is black. And with black walls on top of the black ceiling, it is literally dark. Luckily, with our thing we had candles everywhere. They need a little more lighting options, including some Laura layups or closer spaced and lower hanging overhead lights. Had I known about their deplorable religious/political/non-humanitarian stance. I don't think I would've even walked in the door. I can tell you I won't be walking back in.

While I was never able to step foot into Rustbelt myself, I greatly enjoyed their iced chai while I was staying in Toledo. My mom brought me back several and I must say, it was the best chai I've had in years. The perfect balance of sweetness, spices, and black tea, and just enough almond milk to make it creamy. I wish they were in New Orleans so I could get one every day!

Rustbelt is a perfect place to spend a lunch break or business meeting downtown! The service is very quick and all of the baristas are very friendly. I like that their menu is simple and the seasonal options always provide something to look forward to!

Great coffee in a great in a refurbished rust belt setting. Their large latte comes with a generous 4 shots. Got a Russian tea cake make this an annual stop on the way to up north Michigan.

Delicious bagels at a reasonable price- I got an everything bagel with cream cheese and my Bride got a vanilla cinnamon bagel with cream cheese. We really enjoyed them- and I'm kind of a bagel snob. The sign in the window says "Proudly Serving Actual Coffee," and they are. I asked for "a regular coffee," and got what they call "the Workshop." Which is a cup of coffee as smooth and dark as Barry White's vocals. Bride got a tea latte made with English Breakfast tea for maximum caffeine. She described it as "delicious- lightly sweet but not cloyingly so." Altogether with tax it was $14 and change. Well worth it! I'm definitely planning to come back while we're in town.

One of my favorite coffee shops in Toledo is RustBelt, which I visit several times a month. It is always quiet and clean, and the service is very fast! In December, I tried their Christmas menu, and it was delicious. Surprisingly, even with all the marshmallows, it wasn't too sweet, which was lovely!

What a fabulous coffee shop. I definitely didn't expect to find a spot like this in Toledo. Clearly the joke is on me. After parking my car in their private lot, I walked in and was shocked to find a community hub. Not only did they have the option to pay for a coworking space in the back, but it was filled with people. Whether they were there catching up with old friends or to get some work done, it was obvious if you lived in town this is where you would go. After taking a look at the drink menu and scanning their behind-the-counter treats, I landed on a vanilla latte with soy milk and an everything bagel. The service was spot on and friendly. It didn't take long for both of my items to be prepared and from there, I popped a squat, and got to work. I sat at a community table that had a ton of electrical outlets. Thank you for that! The wifi didn't have a password and worked pretty well. There's no doubt that I would come back for the coffee AND the atmosphere. And will likely do so as I travel to Detroit for work every now and again. I can confidently say that Rustbelt deserves five stars all the way.

You could either sit with the quiet kids (adults) or sit with the rowdy ones. In other words, there's a quieter work space in the back of Rustbelt, lol. I enjoy both sides whenever I visit, and depending on the reason for my visits. I love the ambience of Rustbelt and the friendliness of their staff. There's motivational quotes on the walls of their quiet workspace is amazing! The caffeinated beverages are amazing! I My seasonal "go to" bev is their coffee flights to sample their new drinks.

I typically avoid this place because of my own politics (Rustbelt is directly connected to an anti-gay, anti-choice church), but a friend invited me to meet him recently and I never pass up a chance to have some coffee! While I prefer the coffee from the nearby, super cute, Maddie & Bella, I have to say the espresso and iced tea I ordered at Rustbelt were both delicious! And the staff was super friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere really is killer too, and offers a lot of instagramable moments. In this new "work from home" world we live in, Rustbelt offers some really killer opportunities to grab a table and get some work done. The wi-fi is fast, there are a ton of seating arrangements for your meetings, and they even have a few more private areas if you need that. It is a thoughtfully designed space, with a ton of space for crowds, and since there are currently no other co-working spaces in downtown Toledo, this is really a great choice if you need to get out of your home-office. Will I be back? Probably not! But if you're ok with Rustbelt's politics, or like many that eat Chik-Fil-A you just chose to turn a blind eye when it comes to food and drink, definitely check this spot out!

Wanted to stop for a caffeine break on the way up to Michigan. Found this one close to the highway. They have their own parking lot but there's also parallel parking. Not that busy the day after Thanksgiving. Then again, the place was gonna close for the day in a few minutes. I ordered a seasonal drink. Cappuccino with cardamom? Can't remember. And my sister got a cortado that had a flannel syrup? Can't recall either but it was interesting! It's very open with tall ceilings. Lots of natural light too! Espresso shots are pulled for about 30 seconds. Still pretty light in taste, in my opinion! I don't mind coming back!

Just 1 visit and I am in love with this place. Incredible coffee (I opted for a hazelnut iced coffee), great drink and food offerings, and an atmosphere that is spacious, trendy and unique. Oh, and outstanding customer service, too. Rustbelt appears to be a family endeavor. I met the two brothers, both so welcoming and kind. Their mother has a fabulous gift shop off the back of the coffee area. (I believe this is what the "Cream Living" on their sign out front is referencing) I browsed for a few and may have made a purchase ;) If Rustbelt were in my hometown I'd def be a regular. From the crowd there today I can tell that the locals appreciate this treasure. When I pass through the area next, this will be my first stop! read more

Beautiful building with a coffee shop and furniture store owned by the same family. Really good crushed espresso drink, beautiful building that's open to natural light with big beautiful windows, rooms available for private study (?), solid Internet, ample seating and outlets makes me give this place 5 stars. read more

They crush their espresso here. No idea what it means other than it's freaking good. Also, great environment and a home decor shop in the back. Quirky, weird, like the rest of toledo, but a must stop caffeine destination if you're near the ball park. Wish they were open sunday mornings to help with the hangovers. read more

I heard about this coffee shop and was curious so I went on a Sat morning. OMGoodness. The building is amazing and there is adjacent parking...that's huge in Toledo. The coffee is delicious, staff is very friendly and helpful. There were tons of people of all ages there sitting around and talking. It was very cool. There is also a cute shop at the back that sells awesome stuff! Very excited for Toledo to have such a classy place to hang in. read more

I saw a video online about this place opening and decided to come over after the farmers market. It was bustling, which is great to see! Lots of parking, fantastic atmosphere, great people, and I can't say enough about the crushed espresso drink. It was like a sugary cloud! read more

One of the best coffee shops in Toledo - they have wonderful seasonal drinks and if you can't make up your mind, ask them for a recommendation! A great place to meet a friend and a lot of space - not your typical small coffee shop where you can never find a seat. Check out their cream store in the back for antique lovelies! read more

I got a latte and my husband a cappucino and they were both rich, and full of flavor. Can really taste the fresh roast. Add a scone on to our 2 12 0z drinks and it was still only $11, a great deal. Fun ambiance, great parking and really nice wheelchair access. read more

THE BEST! Rustbelt has SO much character! The barista staff is friendly. They know their coffee and they know their customers. I'm a pourover kind of coffee nerd and they serve some top shelf coffee from local roasters (my favorite being Actual Coffee). They also make killer espresso drinks. The atmosphere is relaxed with a giagantic comfy couch stretching the length of the large room. This is a one-of-a-kind gem. My favorite coffee house, not just in Toledo, but anywhere! read more

Our family lucked out stumblling onto this gem on our way home to Illinois. Great iced mocha and wonderful atmosphere with a beautiful home decor shop in the back. The service was exceptionally friendly and accomodating. My only regret is that this coffee conniseur's dream isn't closer to my neck of the woods. read more

I'm from out of town, but I heard about this place from some friends and came for an afternoon cup of coffee. The layout is great and the atmosphere is very inviting. I got a cup of coffee and it tasted great, not to mention free refills on brewed coffee. The staff was very helpful and seemed excited to be working and serving us. Best coffee EVER!!! Best staff EVER!!! Love this place!!! Their coffee ranges from hot to crushed. My favorite drink is the crushed espresso! All of their drinks are fantastic and even the black coffee is awesome without anything added to it! They even have some fantastic teas! As for their food it is even more amazing! They have a hot ham and cheese that is amazing! And they are constantly adding new things! Overall there is nothing bad about Rustbelt and they deserve a 5 star review! read more

A diamond in the rough! Fantastic coffee and tea blends. Fresh daily pastries too! I had a simple gunpowder green iced tea--that was freshly brewed! My husband had an amazing signature blended iced drink that was so delicious with raspberries, mocha, almond milk and other ingredients. Will definitely frequent this gem when visiting Toledo again!!! read more

My wife and I have been meaning to try Rustbelt for some time and on this past Saturday we were able to finally do so. And let me tell you we were not disappointed at all. In fact we were taken back at the pleasant service and the overall great atmosphere of this coffee house. Greeted as soon as we walked we looked at the menu(not to extensive but enough variety to satisfy every palate(I am not a coffee drinker)) I decided on the Gunpowder tea and my wife went with a mocha. When we got to the counter we were greeted with a smile and explain it was our first time here and the gentleman was excited and thankful we stopped in. When we ordered he recommend we try two special variations of the drinks we wanted. He suggested the Raspberry Chocolate Mocha for my wife and the Strawberry Gunpowder tea for me. Both were outstanding. The tea was crisp and refreshing. My wife had nothing but good things to say about here mocha as well. We sat on the big coach along the wall and it felt like we were in a living room just hanging out and talking. Overall just a wonderful experience and a wonderful place that will gain repeat business from us. read more

History

Established in 2016.

We opened the doors late summer 2016 after four years of planning and ten months of build out.

Meet the Business Owner: Grant and Brooke P.

We are a husband and wife team (but really we work along side our whole family, Momma and Pops P, our manager Carmen Andersen and an incredible team of awesome people.) Grant has worked in coffee his whole adult life and after traveling for several years moved back to Toledo, OH, began work on a concept for a coffee shop which endeavors to lift moral and spirits in the Toledo area. And Rustbelt Coffee (in theory) was born. The name Rustbelt comes from the area of the country which Toledo is a part of. The rust belt refers to the once bustling manufacturing cities such as Toledo, Detroit, and Pittsburg. After manufacturing took hit after hit all through the middle 1900's this part of the country was devastated and left to rust... Literally. While many found it too hard to live here, there are those with the will and resolve to call this place home. We call it Rustbelt because we are proud of these people and want to serve them as best we can.

Might be nice if you go to Yelp or website or whatever to change that. I wasn't really sure what kind of star rating to give them at this point. A little goes a long way. Hopefully it gets worked out because I'd love to come back.

This is the real deal. The guy who runs it used to run a deli in Brooklyn. Toledo has plenty of good Lebanese shawarma platters, but this is a different category. Nothing else scratches the itch. They upped their price to about $15, but when they did that they increased the portion size and included a drink and a bag of chips for free, so I think it's still a pretty good deal. Often they'll mix in some fries with the platter, too. As well as lettuce, tomatoes, and grilled onions and peppers. And they have Vernors, which you can't usually get at NYC halal trucks. So it's almost like NYC-Detroit fusion, the best of both worlds LOL! I haven't tried the rest of their menu much. I tried a lemon chicken sandwich once, and it was not on par with the ones that I've from the better delis in Harlem and The Bronx. It was kind of soggy and salty. I might try more of the subs at some point, but I really think of this as a one dish place for now, in spite of their long menu. I think it's hard to express just how happy I am to have this place a short drive from me. The cost to obtain one of my favorite foods from my home in Toledo went down from about $500 and several hours of travel (the price of a round-trip flight to LaGuardia plus one night in a hotel in Queens) down to about $15 and a 10 minute drive.

That said, I'm open to trying other menu items because maybe I just didn't order the right thing. Customer service was pretty average--nothing to complain about, but nothing that stood out either. Overall, it didn't hit the mark this time, but I'd consider giving it another shot.

Maybe 4 stars for ice cream of this style (soft serve), and it doesn't really compare to ice cream like Jeni's or Handel's, it's a different category. The lines can be long, and they're cash only. But once you get to the front of the line, the service is always friendly. But the art is amazing. All the hand-drawn pictures to go with the sundaes and the creative sundae names and toppings/mix-ins. Some of the sundaes are the same ones they served 30 years ago, others are new. The portions are huge. If I recall correctly, for a large cone they take it all the way down to the bottom of the machine (although I've never ordered one myself!) The cake sundaes are quart size. I usually go with a small or junior sundae and it's plenty. It's my go-to stop on the way home from Centennial Quarry in the summer, and one of the places that I take friends from out of town to give them a taste of Toledo culture. I hope they keep going for many more decades!

It's a great spot for the club. Comfortable, quiet, and spacious tables to play at. The bubble teas are very good with many creative and seasonal optiosn and lots of customization you can do. The one time I got a poke bowl it was also extremely good and a huge portion. I got it with almost all the mix-ins. There were SO MANY mix-ins. It's not really Hawaiian style poke, which tends to be just fish with few other ingredients. But it's perhaps more delicious for being less authentic -- the poke in Hawaii hasn't appealed to me much, I don't usually crave like just a big pile of raw fish.

I love what they did with the interior, very nice and I like all the rooms and plenty of space I've been here twice. First time I ordered a frozen drink which was really good. Second time I ordered a pour over that wasn't the best i ever had, I like the pourovers at Maddie & Bella and Bleakhouse a lot better. I wish they had more food choices and sugar free flavors. Hours aren't the best either, they are closed Sundays. Other hing I didn't like was no bike parking. Very friendly staff. read more

Stopped in yesterday, after my father told me they had great coffee. I love a good cup of coffee. I wanted to try the regular coffee with some cream ($4.50), but ended up trying the peppermint mocha. It had expresso, milk, and marshmallows. Very tasty. The, actual shop, was very nice inside and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I can't wait to stop in again. read more

Coffee ministry backed by Life Chapel and run by one of its ministers (Pastor Grant). Life Chapel has a history of funding anti-choice and anti-lgbtq programs and organizations. There are much better coffee houses to spend money at in Toledo. read more
