We went in a busy Friday night for the first time. They had a great artist playing country music. They were quick to let us sit by the bar while our table was cleared. The blackberry mojito was amazing. They were heavy handed with the TX whiskey and coke but it was still good. I had the New York strip and my husband had the ribeye. We were unsure about them as they looked burnt but that was just all the glorious seasoning they put on them. The truffle mashed potatoes were really good as well. We found Ruston Cattle Company on Yelp. We were coming up from Waco and meeting family from North Dallas halfway for an early Thanksgiving get together. We arrived in Sunday about 4pm. The waitress was kind and attentive. She said she drove in from Arlington to work! We got the smoked queso as other reviewers recommended and it was really good. My husband and I split a ribeye. My kids each had brisket sandwiches. They were full of meat and my 14.5 year old was full! They never happens with him. The potato salad was just okay. The steak was incredible. We are so glad to have found Ruston Cattle Company and we will meet our family there again. My daughter wants me to also write that the bathrooms are decorated in such a great Western style! We have come here repeatedly with amazing food each time- the steak is better than any in Dallas, and 1/2 the price. They are having minimal growing pains and at times struggle to handle the crowd hearing about their food. But that is fine with me knowing ahead of time for the good food and prices. Visiting Ennis this weekend we wanted to have dinner and stumbled onto the Ruston Cattle Company and decided to try it. Turns out we made a great decision. They were pretty busy when we arrived so it took a little while but it was certainly worth the wait. I tried the three meat plate with baked beans and mashed potatoes. Everything was so delicious! I couldn't decide which meat was best because they were all delicious. The BBQ sauce (on the side) was sort of spicy, just the way I like it. I thought the sides were both delicious. My husband and I went on a lunch date here today. We got the queso and salsa. The salsa was smoky and amazing. The queso was delicious too. Since we were so full from the queso, chips and salsa, we split the New York strip and added an order of the smoked mac and cheese. I got the baked potato and hubby had the smoked mac and cheese. I tried his and it was wonderful. I got ranch dressing for my baked potato and you could tell that their ranch is homemade. We ordered the steak medium and it was cooked to perfection. It seems no one really knows what they're doing, took over twenty minutes to get a beer bottle brought to us from the bar, ordered shots and they brought them 20 minutes later, with ice in them, melted and watered down - asked for different ones and that took another twenty minutes. Waitress came by maybe twice, we asked for plates, napkins, etc. for our appetizers but they never came, etc. These are just a few examples, but it's clear the staff is highly inexperienced and undertrained. A chance encounter with an employee of Rustan Cattle Company, close to my home in Lakewood, and his certainty l'd find their steaks as delicious as places I pay double the price, is what lead us here. I must admit, this Miami guy wasn't familiar with Ennis, but I'm open minded. We made reservations for a Friday night, to enjoy their live entertainment. This is definitely a restaurant with a diverse clientele, that enjoys their Country, and Blues, and one where you'll feel comfortable coming with family, and friends, or a date. I suggest coming hungry, because they do feed you here! Arriving, the staff immediately makes you feel at home. We enjoyed a cocktail the bartender Garret created for us with our favorite Japanese Whiskey. You'll be able to enjoy a great cocktail with your meal thanks to a generously stocked bar. Our sever, Savannah walked us through the menu, and the perfect cuts of meats for our taste. We ordered a few things, and shared, that might be a great option for you too. Although we loved the fried green beans, and Mac & Cheese, the menu really didn't offer great healthy options for sides, just yummy. Our steaks were amazing, and yes I would agree the quality, and flavor was equal, or superior to places I've spent much more, for much less. We had to try the deserts, again choosing to share the Banana Pudding, and Chocolate Cake, another great decision. Over all our final tab was less than $150 with cocktails, so not bad at all. Expensive steakhouse that wants to reject all sense of comfort. No steak sauces, only local brand drinks, steak suvied, then put in pan to cook. You can pick toppings for the steak but it will not be cooked with them. Therefore, the flavors never develop into the steak. Staff checks on you way to much. Then towards the end of my dinner they had a local artist blasting his awful covers of country songs making any enjoyment of the experience gone. With hard chairs, loud music and food that is way overpriced for what you get. Save you money and go mainstream steakhouse. read more

Although the service was super friendly, it was very slow. My wife and I were sat immediately upon entering the restaurant and within minutes our drink order was taken. The restaurant wasn't overly busy, and most of the folks there looked like they'd been there for quite awhile. I ordered a a beer and my wife ordered a tea. The bottle of beer took about 10 minutes to come from the bar. There was only two men sitting in the bar, and the looked to be family of the young man singing, so they weren't occupying the barkeep's attention. Once we had ordered, the food took over 45 minutes to hit the table. I ordered a three meat plate with tator salad and beans and my wife ordered a steak (rare) and a side salad. Super simple order with most items already having been prepared, only needing served. The steak was really the only thing that needed to be cooked fresh. There shouldn't have been any reason that our food took so long to hit the table. As for the food....my wife said her steak and salad were delicious (and she can be a steak snob. Lol). As for my BBQ, and I'm definitely a BBQ snob, it was ok... nothing to write home to Mom about. The brisket was overcooked, dry and stringy. The ribs, although cooked to perfection, were kinda bland. They weren't sweet or savory, they were just 'blah'. The sausage was solid, but definitely not house made. The beans were ranch style (not the brand but actually the style) and we're ok. I did like the tator salad though. I could taste a bacon-y, parmesan-y subtleness that was kinda neat. I know this place just opened, and they're gonna need to work some bugs out, so I'll give them a couple of months and probably give them another try. Historically, the location has been a killer for anything that goes in there. There's no good way to get there. You have to exit a LONG way before the restaurant and if you miss it, you have to turn around a go WAY back up the highway. Biggest problem is that if you do miss it, you're hit with every kind of chain restaurant easily available. Also, if you visit at night, the front entrance is not well lit. You can barely see the entrance doors, so the place kinda looks closed (other than cars in the parking lot). It just doesn't give the impression of being inviting. You walk up the porch and wonder, "Am I at the right doors?". Anyways, that's my two cents. Hope it helps. read more

Congrats to Ruston! A great local place for a fun dinner. Casual bench seating, nice staff and good food. We went with a party of 11 for a birthday and while the service is not fast, it's attentive and hospitable. Get the Wagyu ribeye. Don't think about it. Started with the wagyu burnt ends as an app - delish. Salad was extra but needed the greens to offset the rich food and meat-a-palooza. Steaks come with baked potato but we also opted for the smoked mac n cheese, which was good but not necessary. I ordered my steak rare and it came out as expected - a little less rare than I would expect at a top end steakhouse but exactly as I like it - what I would call medium rare. Husband did the 2 meat wagyu brisket and jalapeño sausage but my ribeye was definitely the winner. Decent wine selection with top end cab at $40/bottle being affordable and complementary to the steak. Live music was a bonus. Not an overly loud band but nice country music by a talented guitarist/singer. We were sitting right by the stage and it was not overwhelming. Will definitely be back!! read more

I was disappointed with the queso and sweet tea. Queso was old and thick, sweet tea wasn't sweet. However, WAGYU STEAK was BOMB!!! I always have to have A1 with my steak but not today! Our trip thru the south ended in Ennis and being from Hawai'i, my top wish while in Texas (after boots and a hat) was to eat some really good steak. RCC showed up atop the Yelp recommendations, so we went there on 10/21 at 645pm. I was pleasantly surprised that our rather large group of 7 was seated immediately...the place was over 3/4 full. I chose the 18oz wagyu ribeye and waited in anticipation as I saw (and could smell) the plates coming from the kitchen. After 42 minutes of waiting (several tables near us had eaten and left during this time) the waitress refilled our water and said that a large party had bogged down the kitchen and that our order was up next. Fair enough, though the jokes about having to catch the beef in the nearby pasture started. At 67 minutes, my 83 y/o aunt breaks out some crackers she carries and starts eating them (no bread or other table item is served). At 88 lbs, she skipped lunch in anticipation of this meal, and was really hungry, as we all were. At 81 minutes, a different waiter comes to the table to apologise, saying they lost our order. He will personally get the kitchen on it asap. The place is less than half capacity by this time. We were considering leaving but for how hungry we were. At 87 minutes, our food comes out. My steak is the smallest 18 oz piece of meat I've ever seen, but it is good. My sister-in-law's steak (done medium) is literally raw in the center. My aunt ordered the pork chops and it was so tuff with gristle, she could not cut it. I thought at 83, maybe she was too weak, so I assisted--yup, this was the toughest pork chop i ever met. They inspected the pork chop and decided to comp us for my aunt's meal, esp. since she didn't/couldn't eat it--ended up at a fast food place for her dinner later. That fact alone prevented this from being a 3 alarm dumpster fire. Wife was against a tip of any kind, but I tipped anyway for the waiter who came out to personally correct the situation. Disclaimer: I'm no foodie, but I know and enjoy steak. Also, I may be spoiled because I'm used to eating at Morton's and Ruth's Chris back home. But I expected much better from this place. I have some feedback by way of improvement: 1) check on each table at least every 20-30 min 2) if no food is brought out after 45 min, bring some bread 3) don't rush your product or the quality will suffer Any of these, alone or in combination, would have improved this experience. read more

The flavor was amazing but probably the fattiest ribeye that we've ever had. It wouldn't keep me from going back because as I said the flavor was great but it was disappointing. Now I love some fat on my steak but this was to the point of cutting off a piece and your whole bite was nothing but fat. I wish there were more veggie options for sides but the baked potato did not disappoint and they do a great job of actually overloading the toppings. We also tried the smoked queso which was also amazing. I would be in heaven if they offered a smoked queso with their brisket in it too!
