This was one of the most disappointing customer service experiences I've ever had. Because of that history, I never expected to be treated this way. We experienced a genuine family emergency that forced us to leave early and requested a refund for our unused Sunday and Monday nights. These were weekday nights not a weekend or holiday, and the hotel kept 100% of the charges for both nights despite us not being there. What made the situation even worse was the amount of time we had to spend going back and forth during an already stressful family emergency. The front desk staff repeatedly told us they understood and agreed a refund was appropriate, but the owner instructed them not to issue one. For several days, staff members seemed confused about the situation, while the owner/manager refused to respond to phone calls or text messages. We were left waiting, following up repeatedly, and receiving no direct communication from the person making the decision. I understand businesses have cancellation policies, but there should also be room for compassion and reasonable discretion, especially for LOYAL, repeat guests who have spent thousands of dollars over the years and have personally referred many others to stay here. Unfortunately, this experience erased years of goodwill. Customer service is tested when something unexpected happens, and this hotel failed that test. We will NEVER stay here again, and after this experience, I can no longer recommend it to friends, family, or clients. What a HUGE disappointment Cottage Grove. Not the way you treat your loyal customers.

Check in was a breeze. Mumm was chilled, waiting on the table. As was the s'more basket. As was the dog bowl, already filled with water and treats. As was the beautiful Christmas tree and live table wreath. As were the L'Occitane bath products. And the lovely robes and slippers. And the super soft bath towels. And the outdoor blankets for the enormous yard we have all to ourselves. In addition to the games room. And the bikes to ride. And the Chardonnay in the fridge. And the bucket of snacks. Or the gigantic, two head showers in both bathrooms. Or the enormous jacuzzi tubs (yes, plural). Or the yoga mats. Not a detail is missing in this place. There is a huge table and extra chairs should you want to have guests (there is room galore for guests, and we are a party of four with a dog!). Umbrellas. Picnic backpacks. Excellent Wi-Fi. (Pro tip - we brought our Fire stick but Netflix is available without it.) The single imperfection is that the lacquer on the dining table was slightly tacky/sticky and made it hard to play Catan and Monopoly. Easy fix - in the laundry room cupboard, there are tablecloths so just slap that down and game on!!! Cannot wait to return in the warmer months with a ton of friends and family to take the place over for tastings, relaxation, touring, and barbecues in the huge yard! We LOVE IT HERE!

It has its own parking space. The fire pits are prepped every day and very easy to use. Wherever you sit in or outside of the cottage it js very private. The bed was very comfortable and there was also a comfortable sofa to sit on as well. The room comes with a Bluetooth music speaker preloaded with smooth and relaxing Jazz. There was also a kitchenette with a microwave, coffee pot, toaster, tea kettle, refrigerator. The property is beautiful and the staff is very detailed and nice. Check in and check out was a breeze. My favorites were their 2023 Pinot Noir that was smooth, and surprisingly their Malbec was a hit; I usually don't like Malbecs but this was smooth and spicy. These two wines stood out due to that flavor profile, spiciness, and the lack of tannins on my palette. It was a cozy vibe tasting in the cave, they also had cards games for us to enjoy.

And this year we have also been fortunate enough for her to provide us with these incredible homemade organic exquisite unusual iced teas again from various ingredients on her property. They are delicious and unlike anything we've ever had. The tour itself was pretty short, strolling around the winery for 15-20 minutes tasting different wines (6-7 different kinds). We spent the rest of the time inside one of the "caves" enjoying wine and cheese. While not certified (yet), their wines are organic. They practice organic farming. Tastings take place inside the historic home, where you can see old photographs of the home and generations of family members who have run the winery. Reservations weren't necessary which seems like more of the exception in the area which was perfect, though e had made some beforehand online to be safe. We absolutely loved all of the wines we tried, and Tony was amazing in guiding us through the tasting process, with us trying wines that aren't normally our style, though we really enjoyed at Nichelini. They walked us through the wines in such a helpful way to really understand each in a very approachable way. We absolutely loved how as people who like wine but aren't very knowledgeable that this really was a really great experience to learn more. Everyone at the winery couldn't have been more nice or welcoming, with us staying to talk and try wines over a few hours. When we mentioned that we were taking a trip celebrating our new engagement, they were sure to make it extra special, which we appreciated so much and will always make this a special place in our hearts! For our first time in the area, this set the bar extremely high for how friendly our hosts were and how beautiful the winery is. After surviving wildfires and the tests of time, the main building from the 1800s holds so much history, as evidenced by the numerous photographs lining the walls. The signature tasting consisted of four hand-selected wines: 2024 Moscato, 2023 Caterina Reserve, 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, and a 2022 Petite Sirah. I was wary of the moscato at first because i don't like sweet wine, but this one actually has a sweet flavor without the sugary taste. The next wine on the tasting was the Caterina Reserve, an oak-barrel aged white wine unlike any other I've had before. My favorite wine was the Zinfandel, a red wine that had a nice smoothness and semi dry. We got a bottle to take home for a special occasion. Overall, the Nichelini Family Winery is hands-down my favorite winery in the region and a must-try for anyone visiting!
