We got take out from this establishment and it was disappointing. This place is a seafood market. They sell fresh fish. We made the unfortunately assumption that a seafood store can also cook. The fish was either over cooked or bland for a large party so it's not just me saying this. I will say the crab soup was good but not much crab. The taste came from cooking it in crab so the broth picked up the essence. Don't make our mistake. Buy fresh fish there and cook it yourself. They are not cooks. They are fish mongers. read more

Items here are hit or mess, kinda pricy too. My food was good, I got the salmon dinner filet with sides of potato salad and corn. Salmon was cooked well and well flavored with a lemon dill sauce. Sides were good too. My wife got the cream of crab and the scallop dinner. I tried both and didnt think either had much flavor. My parents both got the lobster roll. It had large pieces of lobster and wasnt smothered in butter but my dad didnt think the lobster taste was strong enough because he thought the lobster wasnt fresh enough. Its possible that hes mistaken because hes thinking of a warm lobster roll and these are cold lobster rolls. For desert we got slices of the key lime pie and the peanut butter pie. Both were really good but expensive considering the size of each. read more

Food was tasteless and bland. I had Mahi tacos, no thank you! My husband had Mom's Jambalaya - it wasn't good at all, the shrimp was bits not whole shrimp, no flavor nor heat, at all! The menu needs to change or be updated. Jambalaya needs that heat! read more

The lobster roll was small but a little less expensive than the bigger ones. The roll didn't have good texture partly do to the high humidity. They didn't add too much mayo, thank you. If you are not a salt water fisherman...I am here to save the day and your seafood dinner. We were looking for fresh fish for our seafood boil. So, we stopped in South Bethany Seafood Market. There was a ton of choices. We bought salmon, scallops, shrimp, halibut, mussels, and little neck clams. All of the fish looked fresh and clean. Emily did a great job helping us out with all of our seafood selections. She was courteous and sweet and knew her fish. There are frozen fish, desserts, and sauces as well. There was a huge lobster bath with several lobsters crawling around. Just down the street from Sea Colony, it is a fisherman's paradise. Just leave your rod and reel at home. Fresh, local and not corporate. This is a small, tidy and welcoming store that feels like a neighborhood fish market of old. Friendly employees and fresh fish, clams, shrimp, crabs, oysters, scallops and mussels galore. The pies looked mighty tasty too! Our shrimp was perfectly steamed and seasoned with Old Bay. Was recently in Bethany Beach for a quick 2-day stay, which meant light groceries and lots of takeout. This was the best of all others that I tried, dinners included. Enjoyed a delicious salmon BLT for lunch. Staff was friendly and politely advised me of their mask policy when I called to place order. Food was on time, warm, and wrapped / packaged with care. Judging by how busy they were getting for lunchtime, others have discovered this spot is worth fitting in to a trip to BB! My only regret is the credit slip didn't allow for tip and I had no cash on me, and a tip was deserved. Will have to bring cash and tip double next time! read more

This is a great place for takeout seafood during your beach stay. We ordered the Clam Bake special for $84 which came with steamed clams, two steamed lobsters, snow crab legs, corn on the cob, two sides, a stick of butter, and dinner rolls. We added a surf and turf meal and orders of clam chowder and seafood bisque. The entire order came to $134, a steal for all of that delicious seafood already steamed. We brought it home, melted the butter, and went to town! It fed five adults and two kids to a delicious seafood stupor. Make sure you order a few hours ahead of time as they get very busy. We called two hours ahead and still had to wait about 15 minutes to get our order, but it was totally worth it. I would rather wait for good food than get mediocre food immediately. They also have an array of fresh fish cut daily, uncooked seafood choices, sandwiches, desserts, and some non-seafood options for the land lovers. We were beyond pleased with this place, and we're picky about our food. We will probably order from there again tonight! read more

UGH!! What a disappointment! Got a dozen extra large crabs last night and they were awful and expensive! Every crab was feather light, most were over cooked and mushy. We've truly have enjoyed this market for decades. (I believe at some point our original first dollar was on the wall.) They always find us jumbo crabs and the cream of crab soup is THE BEST! We also love grabbing lobster rolls without fillers and other seafood lunches to take to the beach. Their 10 layer Smith Island cakes always round out our orders. Great little market but always packed because they are the best so get your orders in early and reserve - you wont regret it! We live in Bethany full time - this is our best kept secret spot! They do pack up for the winter but offer Friday pick ups for fresh fish - worth all of it! read more

I'm giving it a 2star because our order was ready when we were told it would be; however, the crabs we had were horrible definitely would NOT go back. They were watery and green inside. Like many tourists, we stopped at Dollar General to pick up some items our rental house lacked and needed: dish towels, Draino, bowls that were smaller than Australia. During our sojourn into the wilderness of cheap Chinese-made housewares, we saw South Bethany Seafood in the same strip mall. "Shrimp!" I demanded. And our family patriarch, wise man that he is, complied. He ordered 3 pounds of steamed shrimp for our family dinner that evening. When he went to pick it up, his order was pulled out of the pot--hot and ready--almost to the exact minute of the pre-determined pickup time. The succulent shrimp, spiced with the ideal amount of seafood seasoning/Old Bay, were large and tender. Deemed "delectable" by the family, we would certainly choose them again for our take-out seafood needs. read more

Reason for the poor review is only due to the people behind the doors. Counter people were helpful and very pleasant. If I go to a fish market I expect a fish monger to be helpful and accommodating. Sorry to say but our 2dz. mediums were very dry making it difficult to remove the meat. They either were reheated day old crabs or overcooked before we picked them up. Fantastic place for fresh, delicious take-out. You can get dinners with a couple of sides or a la carte. Soups-cream of crab, lobster bisque, clam chowder, all with generous seafood. We decided to try the local carry out seafood shop. The atmosphere was welcoming and the fresh fish and cake display was delightful. We ordered the mussels and Tuesday taco special. The tacos comes with black bean and corn salad and small portions of cheese, onions, sauce and sour cream. I have to say the fish tacos was flavorful, fresh and juicy. Better than most of the restaurants around the area. The mussels came with corn on the cob, small bun and coleslaw. They were fresh and large. This is a nice little takeout place. We ordered our food, but be prepared to wait a bit for it, it wasn't a problem though. Unfortunately they were out of lobster which made me upset, so I got the crab cake instead. It was good! Although, I think it's a bit overpriced for how much you get, it was $14 for a small one on a hamburger roll, as takeout. The tuna steak was good, the shrimp salad was pleasantly good, and the Po-Boy clam strip sandwich was good, although I don't think they should use a hot dog roll for that. Kaiser rolls would be nice to invest in. Their prices for fresh seafood are high, but it does look like good quality. Overall, it was a good experience; the thing that stuck out most was how they packaged the food. They individually wrapped the sandwich, lettuce, tomato, and pickle. I'm one of those people who hates when pickle juice gets soaked into the sandwich, and they avoided that! read more
