Rusty's- Open late! Great if you're still hungry after eleven! ( they close at midnight... on the dot) I got a mini-mushroom thin crust pizza here. Just plain 'ole pizza, no goat cheese / truffle oil / organic veggies or anything like that. It's a small town Shakey's, but much cleaner and with a tad bit more character. An actual pizza parlour with maybe a little less flair. My mini-pizza was pretty tiny, like the size of my palm. It was cute that they cut it into six slices. I really could have folded it in half and eaten it like a quesadilla in 2 bites..and ordered another one. The best thing about this place is the old school arcade games...I played space invaders ( its technically called something else, but you know, pacman or _____ is always the choice) and got up to level 9 on the first try. I was killin' it! A few points- I don't know if they serve alcohol. My parmesan and hot pepper flakes came in little square packages. The cashier was really friendly. Great for a party! read more

Been here several times, ordered delivery several times-- this trip was a bust. The gal taking our order had a very limited command of the English language. My pizza was not what I ordered. It was useless to complain because they could not understand what I was talking about. They have always had good pizza, they just need to hire English speakers. read more

This is a decent pizza place. We usually stop here on our way to Santa Barbara for a snack. The salad bar is always fresh and the tables are clean. I also like that my toddler can be loud and no one cares :) They also have TV's and video games. read more

Me and my family went camping and walked here from the beach. We were so amazed at the friendly staff. But, the real adventure starts with the garlic cheesy bread. It's so good it'll blow your head off. The barbecue chicken pizza , pepperoni and cheese pizza was a refreshing example of creative cooking. You'll be amazed what a $15 pitcher gets you. We needed to eat something after a long day and this was a local place down the road from the Holiday Inn Express where we stayed. Back home this place would have resembled a Shakey's Pizza. You order at the counter and find your own table. It's a family restaurant complete with arcade games. We ordered a large Pepperoni Pineapple to share and a large soda. Good sized toppings, the right amount of cheese and sauce. It was good pizza. Not GREAT, but good, Nothing about this place blew us away, but some perks were free refills and lots of large booths to sit at. Good for groups, nice local hang out. I saw a car out front with a neon sign on its hood so I guess they do delivery. read more

Carpinteria's little gem! I grew up with it & still absolutely love it! This place never disappoints each and every time I come into town I always take the opportunity to come in for a small personal pizza or some wings. The quality is great and the personnel is always very friendly; Mary always helps me and she's an absolute delight! There's like four pizza places in Carpinteria, so when one review says "Best pizza in Carp!", you're either in for a real treat or someone needs to travel outside their hometown a little more. Rusty's is ok. Nothing exceptional. They seem to do good delivery business. Salad bar was pretty minimal but we were just looking for something for our daughter to snack on while the pizza cooked. We ordered their vegetarian with pineapple and while it was tasty, it could have been hotter. Still, pizza is indeed like sex... even if it's not that great, it's still pretty good. Restaurant is overall nice, they had a working Neo-Geo 4-play arcade and Galaga/Ms PacMan machine (didn't get to play them though... 4-month-old was insisting we leave). Floors were pretty nasty though. Food and pennies all over the place. Yeah, pennies. Not sure what was up with that. So if you're in the area and Domino's sounds just as gross as it is, my suggestion would be to get Rusty's for takeout. read more

The hubby & I took our three kids to Rusty's tonight and were pleased with the entire evening. The pizzas were great. The adults had the personal pan pizzas and the kids split a thin crust cheese. The crusts were nice and crispy brown on the outside and just the right amount of chewy inside. Sauces were tasty and the pizzas were just the right temperature - not too hot, not too cold. The ambiance is nothing special but that's a-okay in my book given how kid-friendly it is. The next time we're back in Carp, we will head to Rusty's! read more

Oh Rusty's how I have missed you!!! So every summer my family/cousins/aunts/uncles/friends... you name it we spent a week on the beach camping and our treat at the end of the week (as we had usually eaten all the food too) was Rusty's... and oh I can still remember how delicious it was every time... not too much cheese grease, perfect amount of pep, loved the thickness of the dough... this place was always a highlight! Last year one of my friends was going to spend the summer out here on a job and I told him that he HAD to stop by Rusty's.. .and he did... and he agreed... GREAT pizza! Called to order a big order of Pizza, trying to support Rusty's a local business. They had told me it would take 45 minutes of course I was going to wait because our companies power shut down and our employees could not heat up their food. The 45 minutes had past and I waited a little bit longer because I understood that it could take a bit longer to get such a big order, but after more of than an hour of waiting when they told me it would be 45 minutes, I ask if it was almost ready and the manager said and I quote "Do you want me to give them to you raw, or do you want them cooked". I called rusty's office to complain and they rudely hung up on me, luckily Giovanni's pizza was eager to complete the order and was amazing 100% better service. read more

Get the pan crust - you won't regret it! We visit Rusty's whenever we are in the area. It is a throwback pizza parlor with squeaky pleather booths and old school arcade games and a retro salad bar (hello, iceberg lettuce!). The restaurant wasn't very busy, so our kids entertained themselves with the video games and pretty much had the run of the place. The pizza was ready fast and the beer was cold, with frosty mugs. A medium pan pizza was perfect for our family (our kids are 5 and 3, so not huge eaters, but they do like pizza). read more

Crust is perfect, chewy and sturdy enough to hold up, yes soft enough to fold over and the slices slowly fold with gravity when holding it out which is just the way a good pizza crust should behave. Crust is thin but flaky and chewy but not crusty or too delicate. Prefect proportion of cheese and toppings and sauce is not overpowering flavor but there is a decent amount of sauce enough to say it's "saucy" but not enough for the cheese to slide off. Toppings go all the way to the edge which is my definition of perfect pizza, same thickness all the way through and omg I can't stop eating it. read more

First time at this place, I placed a delivery online through my phone from the holiday inn express and other than the website being a little screwy the delivery was very quick! And the food was phenomenal! Haven't had good pizza like that in a while. I ordered a thin crust pepperoni and it was delicious, the crust was seasoned well and the crunchiness was perfect and I'm not a huge fan of thin crust either but I wanted something different. Now I also ordered the garlic bread which was delicious as well and the marinara sauce was very tasteful. Compared to other pizza places in the area this one was very well priced. Visiting with the kids from San Diego we saw Rusty's on our bike ride. We stopped by the next day for dinner. Very good Pizza, fresh salad bar. The wings were pretty good too. The only thing needed was a better selection of draft beers, or more of them...this is by no means a complaint just a suggestion. We'll be back again on our next camping trip read more

This review is accumulative over an 8 year period of dine_in, take out and delivery from the Carpinteria store, but I'm sure the quality of the product is fairly consistent company wide. I'll start off on a positive. Nobody knows what they do differently in the making of their ranch dressing, but it's basically dairy MDMA. When you talk to people who move away from Carpinteria and you brag about ordering Rusty's, people ALWAYS SAY, "oh my god, I miss Rusty's ranch dressing!. I have to agree, but it's not worth $1 an ounce. It's not enough to cover up the steadily declining quality and the ever rising prices of your pizza and sandwiches. Your veggies don't look fresh, your cheese doesn't look or taste "real", the crust almost tastes plastic. The quality of everything except the ranch gets worse every year while the prices go WAY up. You're a step above Domino's for three times the price. I don't mind paying those prices for a quality pizza, but not for this crap. Step up the quality. read more

Super disappointed in our pizzas last night. Got two 'mediums' for $40. Around the edge there was 2" of crust, 1" of sauce...1" of just cheese and very very few toppings scattered around the middle. We got one veggie and one pepperoni with other toppings. Some of the slices had almost nothing on them! I picked up one that had a single olive and 2 tiny mushroom slices. I don't know how they manage to do Rusty's worse than all the others...but, that's not my issue. Yesterday evening I ordered a medium pizza for pick-up and got there a few minutes before it came out. In the time I had to stand at the counter and watch...what I saw was sickening. One of the young girls kept leaning up against the beer spigots and leaning her head against them. Her hair and head were all over each and every spout. She was chatting with her co-worker. Several other workers were there, none said anything. It made my stomach turn. It would be great if you could bring your own beer. Next best choice is to get it, take it home, and hope it's edible. read more

Horrible customer service ! The cashier seemed annoyed and tired . I explained how we were out of town and didn't know the menu and she gave a blank stare haha ! An OK pizza place. Haven't tried the thin crust but the pan pizza is pretty good if not a bit too doughy. Ingredients seemed to be fresh, employees were constantly topping off and tidying up the salad bar. Interior is very... pizza parlor-esque and the carpet is a bit dingy. The player one joystick on the "1945" arcade game doesn't move the plane left, so you're stuck on the right side of the screen! read more

The pizza was great, not many options to choose from. They either have the Rustys special or build your own. Either way you go with it, it is ridiculously over priced, and the pizzas seemed smaller then the normal 14 inch pizzas you get anywhere else. The staff wasn't too personable. After picking up a takeout meat lovers pizza that seemed to have been sitting around for some time before we got it, I tried ordering a non standard pizza on line to ensure we got a fresh pizza.
