This place is genuinely shocking in the best possible way. You don't expect to find great seafood in central Ohio, but this has to be among the best of it. Rusty's has absolutely figured out frying foods to a science, and no matter what they put in the frier it comes out perfect and crispy and flavorful. We visited when they first opened in the new location. I heard so much about Rusty's Wharf. The food we ordered was not fresh. It was precooked fried fish fillets that we could've purchased in the frozen grocery section. I don't know if this their normal practice to serve these products, I assumed I was ordering freshly prepared and battered that day fish. read more

I'm not a big fish fan - salmon is normally my only exception. However, this fish and chips joint was right on par! It's a fast casual joint: come in, head to the front register, make your meal selection (kind of basket, do you want a side dish, and what to drink), then take a set and the food is brought to you. Super fast service with a smile! They yell back the orders via a microphone - can anyone say Rax's restaurant!? Got here around 5:30 pm on a Saturday, and it was sparsely populated (only one other couple dining). The gentleman manning the register was pleasant, good humor. I ordered the Fish Basket (comes with fries and two hush puppies) , side of coleslaw and a Root Beer cola. Excellent cooking execution! Seriously. Lightly battered crunchy fish. It did NOT taste like freezer burn. I actually dipped the catch in the sweet custom white creamy coleslaw. Fabulous pairing! The fries' touch of seasoning and golden brown crunchy tips rivals Burger King's (oooh, and a frightened murmur spreads throughout the crowd). We came in on a Friday evening about 7:00 and the place was pretty crowded with only two 4-tops available. Luckily there was no line, so we put in our orders and by the time we walked over to one of the tables there were about 6 people in line. Within another 3 minutes the line had gone clear down to the door with probably 20 people! The good thing is, several of the tables had opened up so the new people had a place to sit. Okay now for the food. I love coneys but some places put beans in it to make it go further or make the coney sauce pull double duty and use it for chili. Not this place! The coney sauce was very good. Not the best I've ever had but still very good. I ordered mine with mustard, light onions and cheese. They put just the right amount of everything on it but it would have been improved if the cheese had been melted. To my surprise, the cheese wasn't cold and didn't really detract from the overall taste & temp of the coney. The coney was served with chips (fries), kinda like steak fries. They were very fresh, very hot and very good. I also had 1 piece of their fish. It was pretty good but nothing out of the ordinary. It was served either tarter sauce which was also good but again, nothing out of the ordinary. It was served with 2 hush puppies. I only took one bite bc by this time I was feeling really stuffed! I just had water with my meal bc they serve all coke products, but it was a very large cup and a whole lotta water! To sum it up, we will definitely go again. The portions were generous, the food was good, the staff was friendly, the restaurant was clean and so was the bathroom. So why am I giving them only 4 stars if everything was good? That's just it. Everything was good but nothing was great. Nothing was outstanding. But we will definitely go back again. It takes near perfection to get a 5 star rating. Very good. Think Long John Silvers style food but better quality. They serve battered fish and chicken, some burgers, fries (chips), hush puppies, Mac & cheese, baked beans, shrimp, baked fish, salad, wings, desserts, chili, hot dogs, and a few other items. The batter is very good and nice and thick. The hush puppies were to die for. Cooked perfectly and just the right amount of sweet. Personally, I didn't enjoy the chips. They were cooked well but they just didn't do it for me. But everyone else seemed to enjoy them. The Mac & cheese was a big hit among the kiddos. The place is clean and the service was friendly. The decor is pretty cute. They've done a nice job with the building. I thought it was kind of dark though, it could use a little more lighting. Overall, I enjoyed it. I'd come back again. The go-to place in Pataskala for Fish and Chips. The fish is flaky and scrumptious but the batter is nothing unique. The fries provide a soft but crispy counter balance. I kept seeing people in reynoldsburg recommend rusty's for fish and chips, and several reviews mentioned clam chowder and wings. I looked up the place and had the gps plot a course to 'pataskala'. I knew where that was so I headed east on broad street as google maps directed. I got near what I knew as Pataskala and gps headed me down a little road for a couple miles then a couple more thru farm land and then a couple more. Eventually we got to the location...a little strip mall on 310. I went in and was treated so well by staff. I ordered the chowder, a hot dog basket, and a cannoli. It didnt take long and I was on my way. I ate the chowder first. It was hot (temperature wise) and lots of broth potatoes and chunks of clams. I then ate the chilli dog. Lots of cheese , and a bit of chilli and onion. I might have enjoyed it more if I wasnt so full of the great chowder. By this time I was full. I figured I would give up and eat the rest cold... But the fries smelled so good I has to try one. Boy was that a mistake! They were so delicious. I needed not ketsup or vinegar. The outside was crispy...the inside steaming and fluffy. Once I reached in the bag and a hush puppy came out instead of a fry. I am not a huge hushpuppy fan...they are usually dry and greasy. But I took a bite and my mind was blown! Crispy but not greasy, flaky and a great flavor, but but but.... there was a sweetness somehow. I dont know if it's in the batter or sprinkled on after frying. But oh the 2 puppies were grand. I am way too full to take on the cannoli... I got in a walk before I came home in hopes I could make some room. I still need to go back to try the fish and the burgers and the wings...and more. We go here for lunch sometimes. It's about twenty minutes from the job and when we're get back with the food, it's still hot and crispy. That says a lot for me. I've tried most things on the menu and I've enjoyed it all. I especially love their hushpuppies. The cocktail sauce and tartar sauce are homemade and delicious. And the staff is always super nice. However once i stepped inside i found a nice decor rhat was clean and plesant. I order the fish and chips with extra hushpuppies. The hush puppies where good not greasy had a good taste. When the fish came out had two large filets and a bunch of fries. Fried where nice and Krispy. Now for the fish. It has a nice crisp batter and nice crunch. In a little hole in the wall in an old strip mall there is a little family owned fish and chips joint with big taste. No pretensions, just order at the register, take away or dine in, get your table and the food will appear with a smile. The fries were very good, crispy and tasty. The fried shrimp and clams equally so. The fish fillets are also crispy and done correctly. The smelt was OK, not crispy, good, but not our favorite. The hush puppies, for us, were too sweet and dense. I grew up in Louisiana and am partial to the southern style hush puppies though. The coleslaw was basic and good. Drinks were fountain soft drinks. Condiments were ketchup, S&P, hot sauce and a good malted vinegar. Everything was fried perfectly though I suspect the seafood and fries started frozen. The downside are the acoustics. This is an echo chamber and popular with families so it sounds like a very loud playground at times.
