Restaurant is a little out of the way but I heard some good things so popped in for a fish sandwich. Sandwich cost $3.50 and I was surprised by how big the bun was and how small the fish was. The "Fish on a Bun" should probably be named "Bun with a little fish" Service was slow but they cook to order so probably ok. Seriously Rusty - reduce the size of that bun or add some fish but to have half the sandwich just bun with tartar sauce was a huge disappointment. I also ordered a small clam chowder and it was good but very small for the $3.00 price tag. I ordered "To Go" and was surprised that the Tip screen attached to their register is mandatory even for "To Go" orders and without my reading glasses, too small to read - I think I tipped 15% which was the first option - would have tipped zero since it was "To Go" but could not make out / see that option. Note - I generally tip 10% for carry out at a Restaurant but this isn't a restaurant in that sense - there are no waitresses or hostesses like at a Bob Evans that I saw, just counter personnel similar to a Long John Silvers or Captain D's - in other words - fast food - which generally does not rate a tip. This place was about to quickly become the go to place for my daily lunch or dinner choice until I came in tonight and tried to order a Bacon Cheeseburger basket, exactly the same a a I had a few days previous. The girl taking my order informs me she's not sure if they can do a bacon cheeseburger. I inquire further as to why( is the bacon gone?) she turns to the woman working behind her in the kitchen( who has heard this conversation) and asks if I can have bacon on my cheeseburger. The woman says( and I quote) " We have bacon, but I'm not making it. You have to deep fry it and I'm not doing all of that. The owner will do it for you. I'm not". Hmmmmm. This is the first time I've ever been told to my face that a food place won't make the food that's on it's menu because it was too difficult and the cool didn't "feel" like it. I went across the street to Wendy's and got a bacon Cheeseburger there. Since apparently Wendy's can handle the difficulty involved in said bacon making. I won't be going back to Rustys Wharf regardless of how good the food was. I don't need a cook telling me what I'm allowed to order. read more

Very pleasant experience - atmosphere is casual and reminiscent of a seaside fish & chips parlor, staff is friendly, food is good for the price and portion. Had the sampler basket, mild wings, mac & cheese, cole slaw and a cannoli. Wings: tender with a good portion of meat on each piece. Cooked perfectly and chicken fell off the bone without my having to tug at it. Sampler: 1 piece of fish, 3 medium shrimp, clam strips, 1 chicken tender, French fries, hush puppies. Shrimp has a Parmesan crust batter, fish, clam strips & chicken have a light batter. All are deep fried, but not overly greasy. Fries are well flavored (I liked the malt vinegar on mine), and the hush puppies are a nice, sweet cornbread. Cole slaw: creamy & flavorful with a hint of vinegar that is appropriately balanced. Mac & cheese: a nice medium elbow with crackers or bread-crumbs added to the cheese to create a sort of au-gratin type of dish. More of an "adult" style mac & cheese as opposed to the boxed type. Pretty tasty. Cannoli is a cannoli. Always a good thing. Prices are reasonable for the portion size. I would characterize it as a good value. Staff is friendly, attentive and stopped by the table to check in, but didn't hover or linger. Greeted us immediately and gave us a cheerful farewell as we departed. After seeing this place advertised in the local coupon mailers, and then checking our their Facebook page, I visited today for lunch. I wish I had stopped in several months ago! Friendly wait staff immediately greeted me upon entering. A few gentle suggestions were offered but this being my first time I went for the sampler. This was a piece of fish, a piece of chicken, three shrimp, clams, hush-puppies and chips/fries. This was all for $8.50 which was not too bad. Everything was cooked to order so I had a short wait - 5 to 7 minutes if that. When I arrived home, I was very pleased with my order. I received a nice size plank of fish and chicken strip. The batter was not overwhelming on either and did not mask the taste of the meat. The shrimp was also nice sized with a more crumb type batter. Well done. The clams were sweet and tasty. The hush-puppies were sweet as well and a nice compliment to everything else. I enjoyed the chips also. I am tempted as I eat to add vinegar and ketchup, but they really do not need it. Very well flavored and crispy. Despite everything being deep fried, it was not greasy, oily flavored, or soggy with the oil. Color me pleased. I travel to Maine on business at least twice a year and I am a huge fan and connoisseur of seafood. While Rusty's obviously cannot compete with the fresh from the ocean taste of Maine seafood, they have officially won my business over Long John Silvers and Captain D's. This place has excellent fare, warm customer service and top-notch food. As I struggle to finish my meal (but am happy I will have leftovers), I am blissful that I found this gem just up the road from me in Pataskala. If you let the location and strip mall setting dissuade you, then you are the loser. Continue to disappoint yourself at other seafood locations. Me? Stopped in on Sunday and had the fish basket, it was very good, the hush puppies were just perfect, the fries were great, as was the side of slaw. My son had the shrimp and though he's not usually a fan of fried shrimp, he loved it! The service was very good, though you order at the counter they bring the food out, and they even brought my little man a cookie I didn't order! They did ask me while I was ordering of it was ok for him to have a cookie, very thoughtful. Will have to go back and try their burgers, but a couple of things I wish they offered are some salad choices and juice (I don't care for carbonated soft drinks). I have to first say: I love this place! It's a "hidden" treasure in Pataskala, Ohio! The Fish and Chips reminded me of Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips. When we first moved back to central Ohio, I had heard about this place and decided that we'd have to try it. I ordered the two-piece fish basket. I was in "heaven." The fries, the fish, and the hushpuppies are all wonderful! I then bought the wife the baked fish over rice. She loved the cheese-crusted baked fish. The next time we went, my wife had the Fried Smelts. She said that it reminded her what her Greek mother used to make. She said it was wonderful. We have since been back to this restaurant on numerous occasions and we love going back. read more

We've been eating here on Sundays for quite a while now. I think I've had everything on the menu, including the smelt. Everything is delicious! If you like old-time burgers from a flat-top, you'll love theirs. Johnny's BS dog is great - beef dog wrapped in bacon, deep fried and then topped off with fresh slaw. Yummy! Shrimp have changed a little since they opened, but are good and served with house-made cocktail sauce. Even the house salad is very good - looks small, but I'm always surprised at how much that little bowl holds! House dressing is an onion type dressing - very good. Was out in Pataskala on a whim and stopped at Rusty's. I had the big fish basket and two sides of the butterfly shrimp. It was some of the best seafood I have had in years, especially in rural Ohio. Everything was hot and made to order, breaded perfectly, and amazingly tasty. The staff were very attentive and were actively making sure the place was immaculate.
