If you are traveling on I 10 this place is about 7 miles north. When you pull up you turn into a neighborhood and the place looks like just another house. Rooms are separated with only a couple of tables in each room. We have nothing but our drinks and have put in our order but I really think this is going to be a 5 star place. Most of the menu is steaks, pork loin and creative items like red velvet chicken. The best cornbread I have ever eaten just hit the table followed by Buffalo blue cheese fried oysters and honey walnut shrimp. Both of these were amazing and I suggest ordering them together as the sweet and heat compliment each other. Our salad arrived and our server told us the greens had just been picked an hour or so before and I had ginger dressing that Japanese steak house should take a lesson from. You can never go wrong with a filet mignon. Ours was cooked medium rare, just as we ordered. We cut it with a butter knife. The highlight of the meal however was the red velvet chicken. This is chicken breast breaded with red velvet cake and fried. Then it was topped with syrup. I have eaten a lot of places and this may have been one of the best meals I have ever had. They totally have some of the best burgers EVER and I mean that. Even the cold leftover one that somehow survived a trip back to Tally into the fridge was better then most burgers I've ever had. Enchanting space, quite nice hospitality, and an especially affordable lunch menu. High quality dining we thoroughly enjoyed enough to miss them. We found Rutabaga hunting for diesel during the exodus following Irma and are absolutely Loving making them a regular part of our travel plans - they're only a short jaunt off 10. Well worth planning a trip around. You can park in the lot to the left in front of some other shut up building or in the field to the right of the house next door to them without worry. If you ever find yourself in Chattahoochee or passing by, you must visit this charming restaurant. They serve fine dining meals without the hefty price tag. Their meal presentation is so pretty. I ordered the pork chop with tomato gravy and fried sweet potato. Oh! It was exquisite. We sat outside, in the garden. We were surrounded by all sorts of cute plants and flowers. Best food during my trip south, super yummy and fantastic service. The view was amazing and the staff was easy on the eyes

I was in the nearby town of Marianna, FL for business and ventured here from a recommendation from a local. First off, this looks like someone's house and feels like you are visiting a southern family's house for lunch/dinner. I love the non-standard look of a restaurant. Upon walking inside, it felt like I was at my grandmas house and instantly it was a welcoming feeling. The hostess was very pleasant and had a nice southern mother feel. I tried to order the French dip but the lady was upset because the cook failed to get the beef for this dish. It kind of left me undecided at the moment because I had my heart set on the French dip. Nonetheless, after a quick look over the menu, I saw the Red Velvet Chicken grab my eye. Along with the two sides (green beans and carrots and homemade fries) the order was complete. Sweet tea was absolutely amazing and fresh. The glass never fell below half and I couldn't get enough. The red believer chicken was absolutely epic. The moist, tender but of chicken was very flavorful with a crust of red and sweetness with a nice country gravy. The green beans/carrots had a spiciness, the carrots were a bit overdone but was a great flavor. The home fries were tasteful and the right amount. This place was definitely appealing in environment, food, and customer service. I only took 1 star away because of the lack of menu items and the overcooked carrots. I knocked a half of star for each deficiency. Overall, this is a place not to much while in the area. If I am back in the area, I will most definitely drop in again. read more

My wife and I dine out on a frequent basis and we especially enjoy trying new places. Our dining habits range from the small Mom and Pop restaurants to the upper scale, all in hopes of finding that "must go to place". We had heard of this restaurant from some friends, so we decided to give it a try. Not knowing the volume of customers for an evening service we made reservations to ensure seating. The restaurant is an older fifties style wooden home and the seating is limited to what once was two separate bedrooms and the small living room. Upon entering the restaurant the first thing that we noticed was the heat. It is mid-February and the temperature inside was overwhelming, so much so that my wife and I had discussed leaving. Instead of leaving we asked to be seated in the back room where is wasn't as hot, which the staff obliged. After asking several questions about the appetizers, entrées and sides, we placed an order for an appetizer, fried green tomatoes (pictured). About fifteen minutes past and the server returned to the table and we placed our entrée and salad order. We thought that our entrée would be served shortly after having placed the entrée order, but that didn't happen. The hostess that seated came by our table and asked if we had ordered salads, we informed her that we had indeed ordered salads as well as an entrée, but had not seen either. The hostess informed us that there was an issue with the fryer and the cook had left to get tools in order to get the stove working again. Our server could have informed us of the delay and offer to bring the salads, but as it was we waited. By now about forty minutes have passed and we were getting a little antsy to say the least. The food was so-so and the service wasn't as good. We always give a restaurant a second visit just in case the restaurant and staff were having a bad evening. We will definitely post a second review once we try it again. read more

Outstanding dining experience. The restaurant is set in what appears to be a prohibition-era clapboard house, with a quaint garden out front, all of which adds to the charm of dining there. The food is expertly prepared and delicious, and most of the items are traditional southern dishes with a creative twist. I've only been for brunch, and the menu is selected the morning of, so you won't know what the options are until you get there. Each week usually has a few consistent dishes and some new ones. The prices are very reasonable, and though they don't serve alcohol you're allowed to bring your own, and they don't even charge an uncorking fee! It's about an hour drive for me to dine here but it is well worth it. This place is a hidden gem. read more

Rutabaga served the best dinner we have had on our current RV trip to about 20 cities. The chef owner came out from the kitchen to explain the specials and how he made the rutabaga portion of the rutabaga mahi dish. Whatever magic he performed served as the heart of the seafood dinner the two of us split. It was well more than ample for two people. The only problem is we couldn't agree on the best part. I favored the oysters and the mahi while my partner favored the grilled shrimp and the vegetable medley. Cindy, the server, had been working with this chef for years. She knew every dish on the menu and knew exactly what paired with white. She served with a smile, promptness, and an awareness that the food produced was well superior to the average. Our biggest surprise came from the high-quality and horrific taste offered by the only restaurant for miles around that was open on Wednesday night. The restaurant offers a combination of dishes that allow you to make a healthy meal with grilled seafood and crab cakes that are nearly 100% crab. The cornbread may not of been the most nutritious part of the meal but it certainly was tasty. The salad was fresh, the oysters tasted like they were swimming this morning, if oyster swim, and the veggies were locally sourced, The restaurant is a block off the main street, a few blocks from the interstate 10 exit, and exists in the boy at home of the chef remodeled to be a restaurant with a number of rooms but hold three or four tables each. It was quiet with background music but stayed in the background and comfortable chairs and tables for small groups. There was one large group celebrating in another room and while you could hear they were there they did not intrude in our conversation. I wish the place were located in our neighborhood so I could go whenever I want I lovingly cooked fresh source peaceful dinner. read more

He's a thief, and after many ignored calls/texts and false promises from Billy, he still has not returned $1,000s of dollars worth of rental items, his checks bounce (even employees' checks), credit cards get canceled/declined and he spreads false lies and slander to other vendors about businesses he owes money too. I've never had a bad meal here. Chef Billy does a wonderful job keeping the menu fresh, using local ingredients, and the value is amazing. Today I had the grouper with the grits and my wife had the chicken on a biscuit. In both cases the food was perfectly prepared and looked great. We each added a dessert and it was worth the trip for the dessert alone. If you have a chance to try the red velvet cake you shouldn't pass it up. The portion is generous, and the presentation is wonderful. Both the red velvet and the chocolate cake were a delight to the taste buds. My only mistake was not getting a coffee with the dessert. They told us they plan on opening a bakery soon and will have various baked items available in the morning. I've already calculated that a diversion in the morning to this place will add fifteen minutes to my morning drive. If the pastries are anything like the desserts we had today I'll just have to leave earlier to make this happen. read more

We've eaten at Rutabaga's a couple of times a year for the last 3-4 years. This afternoon we were driving in the area showing our friends from VA the lasting effects of Hurricane Michael. We were in the Chattahoochee area around 5pm and decided to see if we could get into Rutabaga's without a reservation. Being right at the dinner hour, our party of 6 got right on. Hostess was pleasant as always. Our server was quick to come to the table to take beverage orders l, drop off a basket of corn bread w honey and explain the evening specials. We ordered a couple of apps - key lime walnut shrimp and a creamed crawfish in puff pastry. Walnut shrimp was wonderful. Crawfish was ok. Tiny tails were on the verge of being overlooked. Server came to take our entree orders. Three of our party ordered ribeye steaks. One ordered Mahi special. Two of us were going for the blackened snapper. Unfortunately, no snapper available today. One changed to the filet, I chose the Beef Wellington. As I was assured it would be med rare. Salads arrived. Everyone enjoyed. Entrees arrived. Two ribeyes were ordered med rare, one med. One of the med rare ribeyes was raw. It was sent back for more fire. Came back better cooked - but - on the same plate w same veggies n sauce, cmon, that's bad chef. Wellington was a disaster- dough was raw. Chef knew it was going to be raw. Blew it off as 1st one of the night and oven not hot enough. Duxelles wasn't duxelles- not sure what it was. Basically a charade. 5th or 6th time we've been to Rutabagas. Great idea, poor execution. Too bad. Won't be coming back. read more

We called Rutabaga Café to see if we could get a reservation and they laughed and said under normal circumstances...no... but they had a wedding party cancel so they could accommodate the 22 of us. It's in an old house and at first I thought I had the wrong place. Inside we all ordered different items to try things. Everything was excellent. Service was great and the food was even better. We liked it so much that when I go to see my son in the panhandle we get a hotel and make this a stop on our way. I have never been disappointed here. We'll see y'all next time.... read more

Everything exceeded my expectations. The appetizer, Key Lime Pecan Shrimp, tickled my taste buds. I enjoyed it so much that I sucked the tails to get all the flavor. If it weren't a classy place I would have licked the plate clean. My main course consisted of pork chop cooked in a balsamic blueberry reduction, glazed sriracha carrots & gouda mashed potatoes with truffles. I would like to add the owner/chef asked me if I would like gorgonzola crumbles on my pork chop. That really impressed me. I said "Heck yeah!" Mom in law had red velvet chicken, mixed veggies & fried mashed potato balls. My husband had grilled mahi-mahi on a bed of rutabaga & same sides that I ordered. The server was a really Nice lady and the food was a little long to wait for, especially for how not crowded it was, but I was in good company :-) The price is very reasonable I would love for something to open like this in Tallahassee, but there's no way in hell that the building code or the building inspectors would allow this quaint little restaurant to open. Bottom line if you're looking for a great dining experience take to drive to Chattahoochee on Highway 90, ( which is beautiful) get a reservation, and go eat some extremely good food. Definitely would love to stop by again! Wife and kids and I were traveling on I-10 through the panhandle and looking for a fun place to eat. What a cool small town restaurant!! It's about 10 minutes north of the interstate situated in a town that reminds me of home - but it's a fine dining surprise. I take it they specialize in seafood as all the specials were such. Reservations are recommended which is unusual for a town this size, but the place was packed! We were dressed in our just-got-out-of-the-pool-and-into-the-car clothes (having come off vacation) and they still treated us kindly. We had to sit out in the garden, having no reservations, but to me that was a plus! Situated in a small former-home complete with screened in front porch, this little place was a hidden gem. Food was excellent. Fried red snapper, Mahi over risotto, greens (I asked if they had any pepper sauce and they did - homemade), roasted Brussels sprouts, garlic buttered rolls, fresh salad. My friend and I went to this place and had a lovely dinner. It was a sweet little house on the corner that you would not think was a restaurant unless you were in the know. I love the old Florida ambience of the place. We had a table out on the patio so we have got to watch the sunset as we enjoyed our meal. They were very accommodating and understanding with me being a vegetarian. My starter was a delicious salad with creamy balsamic dressing.I got fried green tomatoes,mashed potatoes with smoked Gouda and a sweet potato with balsamic and brown sugar. They did their sweet potato in a very unique way they took off the skin stuff it with balsamic and brown sugar and then threw it in a fryer for a few minutes after it was baked. That made it melt in your mouth wonderful:) My friend got the special of a grouper on a bed of risotto and sweet potato with collard greens that were slow cooked with ham hocks. To send our night off with the right sweetness we both had a piece of cake she had the caramel cake and I had the caramel apple. These two confections were buttery sweet and oh so good!!
