The wonderful cornbread that comes out with your salad - notice - I almost missed my opportunity to get a picture of this
    Brenda W.

Well, I went back - and was not disappointed! This time I took a few pictures and I had the snapper, my folks had the grouper and prime rib. It was all wonderful. Cindy, our server, was awesome (she remembered us from our last visit).

My wife and I dine out on a frequent basis and we especially enjoy trying new places. Our dining habits range from the small Mom and Pop restaurants to the upper scale, all in hopes of finding that "must go to place". We had heard of this restaurant from some friends, so we decided to give it a try. Not knowing the volume of customers for an evening service we made reservations to ensure seating. The restaurant is an older fifties style wooden home and the seating is limited to what once was two separate bedrooms and the small living room. Upon entering the restaurant the first thing that we noticed was the heat. It is mid-February and the temperature inside was overwhelming, so much so that my wife and I had discussed leaving. Instead of leaving we asked to be seated in the back room where is wasn't as hot, which the staff obliged. After asking several questions about the appetizers, entrées and sides, we placed an order for an appetizer, fried green tomatoes (pictured). About fifteen minutes past and the server returned to the table and we placed our entrée and salad order. We thought that our entrée would be served shortly after having placed the entrée order, but that didn't happen. The hostess that seated came by our table and asked if we had ordered salads, we informed her that we had indeed ordered salads as well as an entrée, but had not seen either. The hostess informed us that there was an issue with the fryer and the cook had left to get tools in order to get the stove working again. Our server could have informed us of the delay and offer to bring the salads, but as it was we waited. By now about forty minutes have passed and we were getting a little antsy to say the least. The food was so-so and the service wasn't as good. We always give a restaurant a second visit just in case the restaurant and staff were having a bad evening. We will definitely post a second review once we try it again.

We drove 46 miles from Tallahassee to try this place. OMG! Probably the best meal I have had all year! Cute little converted house... BYOB (YES) The chef is super sweet and came out to talk to us during the meal. The rooms are small and have a few tables so we really got to know our neighbors which was so much fun! I wish I could give 10 stars! Exceptional food and service! We were a rowdy group of 8!

This place was amazing! The food was great, location was adorable with the gardens outside. Staff was lovely! Cindy our waitress was so nice and personable. The chef also came out to talk with us, amazing lemon cheesecake as well! Worth the stop if you're driving through Chattahoochee!

Delicious food, cute restaurant, wonderful Chef and staff. Rutabaga Cafe will be catering our wedding and we are so excited. Can't go wrong with anything that they serve.

Outstanding dining experience. The restaurant is set in what appears to be a prohibition-era clapboard house, with a quaint garden out front, all of which adds to the charm of dining there. The food is expertly prepared and delicious, and most of the items are traditional southern dishes with a creative twist. I've only been for brunch, and the menu is selected the morning of, so you won't know what the options are until you get there. Each week usually has a few consistent dishes and some new ones. The prices are very reasonable, and though they don't serve alcohol you're allowed to bring your own, and they don't even charge an uncorking fee! It's about an hour drive for me to dine here but it is well worth it. This place is a hidden gem.

Beef burgandy crepe, very tender and flavorful

Fried turkey croissant: moist and delicious. Didn't taste the chipotle aioli but it was still tasty. Rutabaga fries were good but not crispy. It was seasoned well but also had brown sugar which gave it a carmelized sweetness. The potato salad was yum! Beef burgandy crepes: tender and flavorful. Reasonably priced, cute house, great service and food!

Fried green tomato BLT and summer veggies

Decided to stop here on our way to Tallahassee. Food was AMAZING. Loved all the plants outside too! I had the trio salad and my boyfriend has the fried green tomato BLT.

Amazing, creative food and friendly service in a quaint vintage house. We were passing through the area and found great reviews for Rutabaga Cafe on Yelp so we decided to stop in and we are so happy we did. The rutabaga egg rolls and fried potato ball were unique and the steak was perfectly done. We will be back when in the area again.

Swordfish with Veracruz salsa, vegetable medley and fried mash potato balls. Excellent fresh food.

Wonderful food in an out of the way place. We were a party of five. Meals came out hot and perfect at the same time. The owner made time to check with all guests to assure that everything was prepared to our liking. When in Chattahoochee stop by this small hidden gem.

    Kelly S.

Thank you YELP for helping us find this hidden gem! The Red Velvet Fried Chicken was out of this world! Filet Mignon tender and cooked to perfect and Crab Cakes out of this world! Only thing better than the food was the wonderful and friendly service!

Desert to go!! Too much food!!

Given that it was graduation weekend, we tried to give them some grace--but by the time we left, we were still hungry and pretty frustrated. After being seated, it took over 15 minutes for our server to take our drink order. She did mention she needed a few minutes, but 15+ felt excessive. Our appetizers even came out before my parents' wine arrived. We ordered the lamb meatballs and deviled eggs--both were just okay, but overall lacked flavor. Our apps arrived around 7:45 PM, and we placed our entrées shortly after. During the long gap between apps and dinner, we witnessed a few tense interactions between the host who seated us and our server. The host came across as very abrupt and rude, and honestly, we felt for our server in that moment. Our entrées didn't arrive until around 9 PM. While our server stopped by a few times to apologize and say the food would be out soon, we noticed multiple tables who were seated after us receiving their meals first--which was frustrating, especially as we were getting really hungry. We were close to leaving when our food finally arrived. The French onion soup had virtually no flavor--it was so disappointing I didn't eat it. I mentioned it to the server, and while she apologized, it wasn't removed from the bill despite clearly being untouched. The risotto was fine but again lacked flavor. The only somewhat enjoyable dish was my brother's chicken pesto, but even that came out room temperature. Overall, it was a disappointing experience--especially for what was supposed to be a celebratory dinner.

Last night we came to celebrate my son's birthday. We were seated promptly for our reservation. Service was great with our server telling us if the specials (the daily blue and the yellowtail collars they had as an appetizer). We ordered a round of drinks for the table. All was going well. The smoked fish dip was good - a solid performer. We especially liked the pickled veg that came along side it. Our mains consisted of the daily blue, two had the new chicken sandwich, and I ordered the duroc aged pork chop. Liam's is fancy now, with mains not coming with sides. This certainly cranked up the bill. I had the pork chop, which was really small despite the declared weight and the price of $45. The taste was good, but didn't really impress me. The daily blue had skin that was charred, but the fish part was good. My daughter wasn't impressed with that. The chicken sandwiches, however, were a hit. Go figure. All but the daily blue ordered a side dish. Two had the mashed potatoes, which were good, I ordered the side with stringy cheese, prosciutto, peaches, and sliced peppers. No flavor. I get the bill and there is a $9.40-something charge in there for a "non-cash transaction". Also, my two drinks were charged a dollar more than the menu price. With everything there at a premium price (a larger and much better pork chop can be had at St James for more than $10 less - with sides!), everything is a la carte, and a silly charge for not having cash means I'm done with Liam's. The place where I discovered my first and favorite scotch, a love for unique cheeses, and great cooking techniques has been outdone by at least one local competitor while increasing prices and serving less. It's a shame, but they never seem to be full, so instead of improving value and delivery, they've gone to increasing prices.

There was a standard menu given to us along with specials for the evening. Also notes were wine specials and a decent wine list. Two in our party enjoyed a Pinot Grigio and a Sauvignon Blanc and exclaimed good quality. For starters we got fresh bread that was accompanied by seasoned olive oil and an herbed butter. We also had the flash fried artichokes; recommended these 100%. There were little strips of red bell peppers mixed in and note, when I say "flash fried" I'm talking a lite dusting of a flour batter and super lite fry...no grease. Dinner entrees consisted of the birthday boy ordering the filet, au gratin potato and asparagus. Three of us had the flounder that had tomato confit, artichoke, hearts palm, olives and mandarin oranges. The filet was cooked perfect and extremely tender with the sides paired perfectly. The flounder was exceptional and no plate was left with a morsel to be seen! The dessert menu was hard to choose from but we settled on brownie with sauce and vanilla ice cream and the raspberry cheesecake. Add in a couple of after dinner coffees/espresso the meal was perfect. This restaurant is small but not elbow small. A few tables outside for nice weather occasions and a small bar to seat 3-4 people. Aiden was our server and he did an awesome job; efficient, attentive without being overly hovering with a great sense of humor. We will be back!
