Parking can be a challenge, but we found a spot right around the block. There was one large table occupied by a few people and a couple of patrons at the bar when we came in. I told the bartender we had reservations for dinner, she told me to pick a table and followed with the digital menus. They had 4 options for dinner: chicken, burger, salmon, and steak. I just had steak the previous Friday night and during NYE that I decided the only option was the chicken dish being allergic to salmon and not a huge fan of burgers. Their beverage menu was extensive, though! I had a glass of cabernet and my husband ordered a draft beer. We started our meal with an order of their artichoke boursin beignet. They came out quickly and tasted fantastic! My bourbon chicken was prepared well and very flavorful. It was served over veggies and a bit of giardeniera. The chef delivered it to our table as well. It was quite lovely! My husband had the burger. He liked it and ate the whole thing. He is definitely more of a burger fan than I am. To finish off the evening, we ordered the chocolate lava cake served with vanilla ice cream on top. While the chocolate cake was delicious and moist, it was slightly overbaked and there was no lava going on. It was still a lovely mini chocolate cake though! Overall, I enjoyed our visit here. While downtown Clayton is not as quaint as Stars Hollow, the food we were served tasted wonderful, and the service was warm and friendly!

We went over 30 minutes in between some courses. Our wine glasses were empty most of the meal. The overall "experience" took almost 3 hours for four courses. We've been to restaurants where the meal was 2.5 - 3 hours, but it was not us waiting around. Here, we spent most of the time just waiting, wondering when our next course would be. The server gave lots of excuses, mostly "there was a big top in the bar room" but for the cost of the meal, that's not really an excuse. Especially when the restaurant wasn't full and we had made a reservation. We literally talked about getting up and walking out at one point. There was another couple that had an 8PM reservation, and they were getting the same courses as us, but before us. There was also a Gentleman that sat next to us who came in around 8:30, had three courses, and was out within an hour. This is St. Louis. The other few restaurants in the region at that price point have been white glove. Never an empty glass, attentive service, never waiting between courses. Honestly, I was somewhat appalled by my experience here, especially reading the other reviews. It was just not good.

The person ordering doesn't drink much else, so looked at the menu and settled on a modified espresso martini. Everyone else was drinking wine- all was good. We let him know we were going to be splitting the bill 4 ways. He came back and we ordered 4 small plates to share to start- but forgot to ask for fries- we tried 3 times to get his attention- fourth time was the charm when he brought plates and silverware to us. The food was good, that's the saving grace for this review. The server came back around to let us know the table was ready halfway through our first round of food. We already knew the employees weren't going to get any nicer if we asked to move, so we stayed put. A couple sat down next to us and the bartender fawned all over them- brought the manager out twice to meet with them as well. We ordered more food. But he never got friendlier or more attentive to our group- we didn't take it personally especially when two other men sat down next to us and he also treated them with disdain. We flagged him down when we were done and asked again to split the bill evenly. He muttered something the said something else about already having separate checks for our drinks. My husband also got the French onion soup because he likes French onion soup and he said it was great. The crab cakes were delicious and flavorful. I enjoyed every bite! I had the ribeye prepared medium rare and my husband had the salmon. We also ordered the brussel sprouts and creamed spinach sides to share which were all lovely and well seasoned. My steak was prepared the way I asked for it to be and our dinner proceeded smoothly. Our waiter came and checked on us regularly to make sure we were well tended to and got us another round of drinks.
