I came to Ruth's Chris Steak House on Mother's Day. My meal was good as always, but unfortunately several items -- including mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, and crab cakes -- were already sold out. My main reason for writing this review, however, is because while sitting at the bar, I overheard an older white man with glasses -- who I assumed was a manager based on his attire -- yelling at the host, a young Black girl, in front of customers. He was cursing and using the "F" word before storming off and aggressively moving signs around the restaurant. I understand that Mother's Day can be extremely overwhelming for restaurant staff, but there is still a proper and respectful way to speak to employees, especially in front of guests. What I witnessed made me very uncomfortable, and I couldn't help but think about how upsetting it would be if that had been my own daughter being spoken to that way. I hope management addresses this situation and reminds leadership staff that professionalism and respect toward employees matter just as much as customer service. read more

Noted on the reservation that a birthday was being celebrated and the hostess made sure to set up the table with a little confetti and a birthday card which was sweet. Dan was doing double duty as a server and bar tender, but he didn't miss a beat. The food was overall good, especially the stuffed chicken breast which I hadn't had in years. The veal ravioli had good flavor, but it unfortunately arrived lukewarm and the pasta was a bit too al dente. Dan left toward the end of our meal and Tomas took over. He immediately gifted us with champagne when he heard Dan mention happy birthday on his way out, which was a nice touch. We came here on a Wednesday night, around 8:30. We didn't realize they closed at 9pm but they were very willing to take us, which we appreciated. They sat us at the bar area. I think the service suffered because the server was also working the bar. We ordered the Tomahawk ribeye medium rare, creamed spinach and some (not so secret/not on the menu) French fries. The presentation was nice, they cut the steak in front of you and they bring you out a hot plate but unfortunately, the Tomahawk ribeye was cooked medium, the ends were very much medium well. And putting our steak on the hot plate cooked it even more. They did ask how the temperature was while they were cutting but I was sitting a little further way/couldn't tell and am also a little shy when it comes to that. The creamed spinach was very salty. The complimentary bread was good and so were the French fries. Definitely disappointed for the price point. read more

I've been walking past this place everyday for months on my way to work. So I decided to finally stop in and check it out. I have to admit. It wasn't what I expected, but it still turned out to be a great experience. I love the ambiance of the place. The food was, in my opinion, top notch. The service was top notch. The staff went above and beyond. From the bartender, to the kitchen staff, they really did their thing. What was really impressive was the General Manager or Assistant Manager that greeted me at the door and welcomed me in. I feel a date night coming on really soon. Thanks for the hospitality. Ruth Chris is always a hit! Did not have reservations but the bar had open seating on a first come first serve basis. The ambiance was very relaxed with dimmed lighting. The bar area had TVs playing sports. As soon as we sat down, we were greeted by the bar staff and ordered cocktails. For dinner we ordered the stuffed chicken breast with potatoes au gratin, and lobster surf & turf special. The special included a starter (Caesar salad), side (cream spinach) and cheesecake dessert. The restaurant did a decent job of managing the event and the food was certainly better than I'm used to for work lunches, but I left convinced that I'd never spend a dime of my own money here. I had: - Goat cheese and artichoke dip. This was fine, but it was also packed with cheese and probably cream, so I'm not surprised it tasted good. - Salad. Perfectly fine as well, but entirely forgettable. - 16 oz ribeye. This was just ok. The meat was well seasoned and perhaps just a hair over temp. The ribeye cap was delicious but the rest of the steak was rather tough and a bit sinewy. - Mashed potatoes. Above average but swimming in butter. - Creamed spinach. Fairly flavorless. - Cheesecake. The tastiest thing that I ate, but a very small portion. Service was fine and the wait staff did a good job of serving food without disrupting presentations. However, they never cleared our salads, which was odd and left a lot of clutter. After lunch I looked at the menu and was shocked to see that the pretty good but not great steak was $71. They set up a nice table with a card and some confetti which was nice but our waiter never mentioned anything about his birthday after that. I ordered the salmon which was decent but the 'seasonal vegetables' was a vegetable hash that you could just get at Trader Joe's. The scallops were small and overcooked. Not worth the price. Be prepared to spend at least $200 for a party of three. Also they do have a dress code, so dress nicely. We ordered 2 filet minor steaks, 1 ribeye with fries, mashed potatoes and scalloped potatoes as sides. Our steaks took awhile to cook, but it was cooked to perfection. I officially give up on Ruth Chris. I took my mother here for mothers day. She had the prifix dinner which included a salad (ceaser) steak and lobster tail 1 side (mashed potato) and dessert. I got the spicy shrimp, stuffed mushrooms as an app and the flavorless lamb chops with creamed spinach and sweet potato casserole. The spicy shrimp and sweet potato casserole were amazing and everything else was LACKING FLAVOR. We had to send the spinach back because it tasted like cream, nothing else just cream. The lamb chops were fatty and tasted like there was no attempt to season them, no salt no pepper. I sent the creamed spinach back and received the mushrooms (not good, don't try) I was EXTREMELY disappointed with this experience and I feel as though I spent $286 for the name "Ruth Chris". We had the petite filet with shrimp, cheesecake, Caesar salad, and spinach + mashed potato as the side. The steak was disappointing especially for the price. I am not sure I would willing come to this place if it wasn't for a group event since they do have rooms to accommodate large groups and private parties. The highlight was their cheesecake. Very busy joint! Recommend adding name to Yelp wait-list in advance. Once seated you have an hour and a half to eat, which is plenty as they're cycling through a long wait-list. Service is very prompt and professional. Decent selection of a la cart options. Highly recommend the tomato oxtail broth, tiger prawns and the wagyu beef combo. Sauces tray is a nice way to add more flavor. This was our first time at a hot pot restaurant with a conveyer belt for additional add ons. For the most part, there were always selections available when you wanted them. Would definitely recommend Chubby Cattle if you're craving comfort food. Ruth's Chris was happy to have us and seated us immediately. Bri was our server and she was friendly and fast. I ordered a lemon drop and RJ ordered vodka and sprite and we started with spicy shrimp. Yum, these were large and juicy with a kick, an excellent version of bang bang shrimp, and there were an even number of shrimp to share which is rare. No matter the Ruth Chris location, it's Always a hit!! Service is always top tier! My sister took me to this location for my birthday and a time was had! I forgot to take a pic, but the Blueberry Mojito was amazing- so good had to do it twice:) The decor and lighting was also very nice and modern. Our waiter was patient as we decided on our drinks and apps. The stuffed mushrooms and spicy shrimp were tasty. The sea bass as usual was hit and by the time the entrees arrived, we were full. I dont normally go crazy on the rolls, but they were also yummy! So I had appetizers, my entree, and sides to take home for lunch the next day. We decided to go to Ruth's Chris for our wedding anniversary. It was a great choice! I felt like I was Queen for a day! From the moment we were seated I felt special. We had reservations for 7:30pm and it seemed like they were waiting for us. The table was decorated with little sparkley hearts on the white table cloth. Our waiter came up to us and introduced his self saying " Hi, my name is Zuri, I'm your waiter and will be taking care of you for the evening ". And that he did! He was excellent! He was very knowledgeable about the menu and answered all our questions. We started off with the Barbecue Shrimp appetizer. They were delicious, but I didn't find anything barbecuey about them. They were sauteed in a garlic butter sauce. I got a pomegranate martini and my husband got a Sam Adams beer. The food is served family style and we were acting like 6 more people were with us. We ordered the 24 Oz T-bone steak. I am not a steak lover but that steak was full of flavor and just melted in my mouth. We also ordered the Crab cakes 10/10, Garlic crusted sea bass 9/10, just a little small for the price. Truffle Lobster Mac & Cheese 8/10, (mine is better :) ). Creamed Spinach 10/10, and Sweet potato casserole w/ Pecan crust 10/10. They also gave us a free dessert for our anniversary. We chose the Chocolate Sin Cake in Raspberry sauce and the Cheesecake w/fresh berries. Maybe I was hungry, but they were good! 4/5 4. Petite Filet Mignon (8 oz) 3.5/5. Medium rare does come up medium rare, but i found the middle not warm enough for me. Both sauce (butter?) and the plate were hot. I had to dip into the sauce to warm up the middle a little bit. I suppose the sauce compensates it? 5. Brussel Sprouts with bacon and butter 3.5/5. I ordered with regular butter instead of honey butter. With the bacon bits, it was pretty good. A decent veggie side. I felt they were understaffed. Needed a quick bite so came to the bar at Ruth Chris inside the Sonesta Philly Downtown. We were greeted roughly and almost turned around to walk out. I kept walking toward the bar anyway and took my seat. The bartender hurriedly handed us lunch menus and walked away. I ordered a mule and a Cesar salad with blackened salmon while my husband ordered a crab cake sandwich with fries and a martini. After we waited about 45 minutes, we realized that we were no longer the only ones sitting at the bar and we were the only ones who's food had yet to be served. The bartender never gave us any type of update on the delay either. Once our food finally came out, the bartender couldn't remember who had ordered the food. Cesar Salad was the size of a side salad and included damp croutons, 2 halved cherry tomatoes, weak Cesar dressing, with half a salmon fillet. The sandwich had two decent sized thick crab cakes and came with seasoned fries. My husband said it tasted good. (I enjoyed his fries.) Both drinks were delicious. Neither to sweet nor too strong. At this point, we were focused on eating when a couple entered the bar and was told that "I take my last order at 3:15pm" and she was "closed to prepare for tonight" meaning "dinner". Glancing at the time on my phone, I noticed that it was only 3:02pm. We were asked "how's everything?" by the bartender and my husband replied, "good". I didn't say anything because my mamma told me if.... We paid the check and because of how we paid, then she started to "chat briefly" with us. The ambience is upscale and sexy and makes date night even more romantic. A huge plus to this location is the easy valet access which makes dining in the city a breeze. The food is of course spectacular as one would expect from Ruth's Chris. The osso bucco is insanely flavorful, but the Caesar salad stole the show here. The portion was gargantuan and very well dressed. By far the best Caesar I've ever had in my life. The ribeye is juicy and flavorful and the lobster and petite filet are the perfect compliments to each other. You will definitely enjoy yourself and your meal here! read more

When we checked in for our reservation, the hosts said to each other, "Should we give them to her, she hasn't had one in a while." The other replied, "I guess". Didn't instill a good feeling from the get-go. We expected a higher standard of service from wait staff at Ruth's Chris, but we didn't get it on this visit. When you pay $250 for dinner for 2, you expect better service than what we get at our local diner. And when I paid in cash, our server never brought the change expecting that she was getting the difference. I'll probably go back to Ruth's Chris, but not this location. I went here for drinks and dessert for two nights and dinner on the 3rd night. Bartenders were friendly and personable in addition to making excellent drinks. The steak was cooked to the correct temperature however, it was not seasoned at all. My daughter ordered the Sea Bass with a lobster tail and her lobster tail was cold and it seemed to be over cooked and rubbery. I chose Ruth Chris for my birthday dinner this year because the food is usually excellent. I was disappointed that the food did not meet my expectations. I took my daughter to this location for her 20th birthday for a more elevated meal. When we arrived we were seated quickly at a very nice, comfy booth to the right of the bar. After being seated we quickly realized that our table was assigned to the bartender and I was a little concerned about how that would impact our service but I decided to be optimistic and give it a chance. The server/bartender introduced to themself and brought us beverages. My daughter opted for the crab cakes cakes as her entree and I selected the Parmesan crusted sea bass. For sides we ordered the potatoes au gratin, sweet potato casserole, and brussel sprouts. We ordered bacon on top of the potatoes au gratin because it's her birthday and that's what she wanted. When the food arrived via the runner we were disappointed to find that neither the pirates au gratin nor the brussel sprouts had bacon (they come standard on the sprouts). We asked the person who bought the food about the missing bacon and we're told they were out of bacon for the night. How come no one told us and gave us the option to change our order? A waiter/waitress is supposed to know what's on the "86'd" list. My sea bass at almost $50 for the entree was cold and flavorless. The brussel sprouts were mehhh. My daughter's crab cakes and sweet potato casserole were prepared well. I'm glad most of her meal was prepared well even though mine was terrible. Once the food was dropped off by the runner the server never came back to our table. They were running the establishment like this we were at a sports bar but never once stopped by to ask us how the $150 worth of food was working out for us. If they had I would have sent the Bass and Sprouts back because they were terrible and almost all of it went to waste. Ultimately I was extremely disappointed with both the food and service during our visit and I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone to dine here unless you're seeking a 2 for $20 service experience at $100 prices. read more

I tried to reserve my feelings about my experience but felt it important to share. Im a new transplant to Philadelphia from San Diego and decided not to go West for the short Thanksgiving Holiday. I was seated at the bar area which had movement but nothing overwhelming. The manager was great because I arrived early but was seated immediately, i didn't catch her name but super pleasant l. Val was my servers name and he left a-lot for anyone to desire: flustered/overwhelmed (for no reason), bothered, zero personality; this is just to name of few characteristics. Part of my reason to spend Thanksgiving dinner at Ruth's was to feel welcome and to have the Holiday acknowledged, he did everything but. As my first course was brought out, he threw my salad in front of me, left me w no silverware and finally I was able to have find him after 10 minutes to ask for the utensils. I ordered the Thanksgiving fixed meal and it was brought out by a pleasant server but my dirty dishes remained for easily 20 minutes in front of me until the server removed them. My silverware was removed w the first course and I never received fresh silverware so i had to eat my Turkey Dinner w the serving spoon from the side dishes (again, was NEVER checking up on me or the tables surrounding me). Not once was I asked if all was well, if I needed anything, really no extension of service of any kind. Since it was a fixed meal, i was never asked if I was ready to be served the desert, he came, again, threw on the table followed by my hefty check immediately. Nothing about yesterday felt special or aligned w the service level RC is so known for. I was disappointed and disheartened because this was where I had chosen to spend my Holiday which I should have rethought. The table next to me received even worse service w half of their party leaving after their meal because the other guests orders were ruined by him attempting to cycle through guests like it was a fast food restaurant. I did speak to management and she was kind enough to provide a 50% discount. The discount was never the intent. The intent was I wanted to feel a warmth and pleasantry from the serving team which was not felt. Could it have been a bad day for Val, possibly but did he ruin my Holiday experience, absolutely! Had the most wonderful time at Ruth's Chris! Our server Shy was excellent and really knew his stuff! What a warm beautiful smile they had too! We were sat in the 'cheaters booth' and me and my friend LOVED them! The velvet booths were so comfy and they even gave you a pillow for comfort! We had the opportunity to shut the privacy curtains and it felt like our own little world! We started we some martinis from the bar and they were made so well! They had our favorite cabernet and we started our dinner off with the Blue wedge salad, HUGE wedge and delicious bleu cheese!! Also had the Goat cheese and artichoke dip! so good! the bread they served was hot and warm! We both ordered the filet and they came out sizzling in butter(YUM!) cooked to our medium rare perfection and the "sides", more like main courses, Lobster mac and cheese and cheesy potatoes au gratin! so amazing, everything was incredible! finished our meals off with espresso martinis and cheesecake and the chocolate sin cake! 11/10 will be back read more
