We came in for my birthday dinner last night. There were a few concerns at arrival. the lady couldn't find our reservation and then when she eventually did find it, despite a specific table request in our online reservation (seating in the dining room away from the kitchen), she first tried to seat us in the bar, and when we clarified we had made a specific table request, she of course sat us 1 table away from the kitchen. Not a good start, but this is where the evening turned for the better: Our server was Sofie, who started by greeting us by name and confirming that we were celebrating a birthday. Sofie asked if I had a favorite dessert (creme brulet) , and she expressed that she would make a complimentary creme brulet happen for us. Through out the evening, Sofie was terrific. she was very personable and was attentive without being annoying. I wish every server we ever have had was as outstanding as Sofie was. On to the food: I had the 18 oz Wagyu bone-in strip, which was cooked perfectly and tasted absolutely fantastic. My wife had the Chilean Sea Bass which was melt in your mouth good. We had the Sweet Potato casserole and Cremed Spinach with bacon, both of which were outstanding. All in all it was one of the best meals we had had, anywhere. We already are planning our return and we will be asking for Sofie as our server!! read more

Husband took me here for our Valentine's Day lunch, restaurant wasn't too busy which we liked because we also had our little one (5 months old) in tow. Our waitress was amazing. Very friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu & specials. She recited everything from memory and even took our orders without writing them down, which i can appreciate. She also gave us excellent drink & food recommendations. All of the staff was very friendly and nice, multiple staff members stopped to ooh and ahh over our baby which was very sweet. Our drinks were fantastic, and i enjoyed my meal. My husband was not impressed with his Wagyu, my regular filet was actually more tender and gave that "melt in your mouth" flavor and his wagyu was chewy. We give this restaurant a 3 star rating for food, and a 4 star rating for the service. We enjoyed our meals over all, but I'm not sure we'd pick this as a spot to return too. read more

I have driving by here a lot, but only came to happy hour once. We decided the Veterans Day meal was a good reason (they were giving vets one of the fancy burgers). Located on very busy Woodward north of the town. Half valet parking, which blocks off the handicapper spots. A really nice appearing building, inside and out. Inside is the reservation and check in desk, with a side seating area and private wine lockers open to the room air but labeled with the owner's names. Two large rooms, spread out tables, and huge wine cellars in glass meant to impress. The beer selection is lacking. I had the burger and it was really good. At the same level as the One Eyed Betty burger, but more rich. My wife had the crab cakes, and they were excellent. I shared one, and it was the best we have had back here in Michigan. She also had the crab and corn soup, and it also was excellent. This place is VERY pricey, and the heavily promoted dinner for two with a shared tomahawk steak is $200. The ambience here leans semi-formal, though several casually dressed patrons gave it a mixed feel. The open floor plan creates a lively but noisy environment--great for energy, but not ideal if you're hoping for an intimate dinner. We arrived with a large party and were not seated in the available private room, which contributed to the noise, but overall, the atmosphere was still enjoyable. For a Saturday evening, the restaurant was not particularly busy. The food was good overall, but not spectacular, especially for the cost. With a few minor adjustments, the kitchen could elevate the experience to something excellent. The bread service was a standout--warm, soft hunks of sourdough that set a wonderful start to the meal. We began with the Hot Appetizer Platter, followed by calamari, and spinach artichoke dip. The calamari, prepared with a tempura batter, was unusual but came out soggy and disappointing. The spinach artichoke dip was heavy and cheese-forward but not particularly memorable--something I wouldn't order again. Moving on to the next course, we ordered the King Crab & Corn Bisque and Grilled Romaine salad. The bisque is rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The grilled romaine salad sounded intriguing but proved underwhelming. It was, however, very large and could easily be shared by four, making it a practical choice for groups. Our mains included the sea bass and the restaurant's signature Steak Del Mar. My steak was cooked perfectly, but lacked seasoning. The Dijon crab sauce that accompanied it was cold, with only a spoonful of crab on top. With more seasoning on the steak and a warmer, bolder sauce, this dish could live up to its signature promise. My son ordered the New Orleans Mixed Grill, which he said was good but also under-seasoned, while my mother's steak arrived plain with nothing else on the plate. Sauces are offered à la carte from a long list, leaving guests to guess which might pair well. A better approach would be to offer a small variety or at least include the house sauce with the dish. Sides are traditional but very generous. The baked potato was massive--large enough for four to share. The creamed spinach is essentially the spinach artichoke dip without the artichokes, more cheese base than cream, and not something I'd call true creamed spinach. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts, which were very good and cooked properly. The service was the highlight of the evening. Ryan, our server, was outstanding from start to finish. He handled our group with professionalism, warmth, and attentiveness. One moment in particular stood out: when he noticed a guest hesitating with the soup, he immediately sensed it wasn't hot enough and took it back to be reheated without waiting for a complaint. That kind of proactive attentiveness is rare and deserves recognition. He was also patient with our older guests, kept drinks filled, and made the guest of honor feel celebrated. Ryan went above and beyond several times and deserves recognition. This restaurant positions itself as a special-occasion spot, and the pricing reflects that. Overall, the food fell short of expectations, but with small adjustments--better seasoning, clearer sauce pairings, and more consistency--the menu could become outstanding. As it stands, the service shines brightest, and Ryan's exceptional care and attention turned a good evening into a memorable one. This visit was absolutely five stars. We went to enjoy "Steaks Around the World." We both had the French Beef Bordelaise. It was an exceptional 8 oz filet with crispy pommel Darphin (a potato dish) . I went to Eddie Merlot's for my anniversary with my family visiting from out of state was totally disappointed in the quality of the food service from the kitchen ordered the artichoke spinach dip. It was served in a broken dish, ordered salmon well done, and it was raw in the middle although my service was excellent. This restaurant is located on the corner of a busy intersection connected to other businesses so it's easy to miss. They do have valet parking so you can easily get parking taken care of. Zero stars if possible. 7:45 PM New Year's Eve reservation. Arrived at 7:52 after calling ahead due to worsening snow. Valet took 10 minutes, then we walked through 2" of snow into a lobby with slippery floors where guests were actively slipping. Waited 5-10 minutes to check in, then stood around with no communication. After 30 minutes, we asked for an update and were met with an eye roll and told--only after pressing--that 15 reservations were ahead of us. We were finally seated at 8:45 PM, an hour late. Ordered apps and entrées around 9:00. Apps arrived and they came out delicious. We finished our apps and soup by 9:40. Entrées didn't arrive until 10:30 PM--and were cold. Steak and sea bass cold, Brussels sprouts undercooked and soggy, filet Oscar served with peppercorn sauce poured on despite requesting it on the side. The GM, Jason, came over visibly irritated. His solution? "Do you want me to warm it up?" No apology. No ownership. After nearly 3 hours, he finally comped the entrées and walked away. To say we were dumbfounded is not even a strong enough emotion for what we were feeling. Our food was served at a temperature that belongs in a refrigerator, not a dining room This was New Year's Eve. We were dressed up for a special night and instead arrived at our next destination minutes before midnight. The steak that was ordered was cooked over well done when it was ordered medium rare - they did recook it and I was able to eat it after my dinner companion was dubbed eating her food - and we had finished the sides. The ambience is nice, but the booth we sat in had holes in the seats. We did pay with gift cards, yet the bill was less than the gift card and the waitress never returned with the remaining balance. I don't know if I would call this an upscale restaurant in terms of quality and taste of food. The ambiance is nice and the servers are nice. The sourdough bread w the whipped butter was great. However, save your money and go somewhere else. The potato au gratin were undercooked potatoes, the crab lobster bisque soup tasted like someone made soup out of sour cream and milk, and the asparagus looked like someone boiled it (overcooked). Staff, service, food outstanding!!!! But one thing that is a REAL issue!!!..... and this occurs at several restaurants...... is the carelessness of the wait staff..... Bartenders make the drinks and the waiters garnish the drinks (lemons,limes, cherries etc) THIS IS NOT COOL!!! They touch the tables, doorknobs, credit cards, money, etc, and then have the audacity to come and touch the fruit for your drink. No one really wants that to happen. So why do it. As a restaurant, especially of this caliber, you're either coaching it or allowing it. And it needs to stop. Me and my wife sat at the bar and watch this occur to at least 10 to 15 drinks. There are several other restaurants that I will be calling out. Respect the health of the customer. No one wants dirty hands, putting things in their drinks! And then to get charged $15 for the drink!!! just saying!!! This restaurant was one of my go to but sadly no more. Had 5:45 reservations on NYE. It took forever to get our entrees (about 1.5 hours after our appetizers) and the steaks were really undercooked. The manager did offer to recook them but I felt it took so long to get in the first place we would not leave there before midnight. The manager did then offer to comp some desserts but by then we just wanted to leave. Also, the last wine pairing (Caymus) was equally disappointing. So we received a gift card last year for Christmas and decided to give this place a try. I found the food to be good. We ordered 12oz fillet and a side of King Crab. We also ordered the tuna tart for an appetizer which I thought was fantastic. And the au gratin potatoes. the potatoes were good, but they were absolutely drowned in butter and my only other complaint was the crab was not cut enough for me to get the meat out. Our bill with tip was $240.. that was with one drink. I'm not sure I would return for that price, but it was a nice experience.. I'm so sorry to have to write a bad review of this place. We received a gift card to here and decided to go on a date night, we got a baby sitter for our two kids and we're excited for a night out. Made a reservation for 6:30, asked to sit outside to see the cruise. We waited 10 mins to sit outside, then waited 10 minutes to see a server after being sat. We ordered drinks and the filet mignon wontons- they were delicious. Then we ordered our food. I ordered the special jumbo shrimp in a lemon sauce and my husband ordered a medium rare ribeye. We ordered truffle fries to share and a corn chowder and crab soup. Soup came out right away and was good, not great but good. 40 minutes after placing our order we still hadn't received our entree, when we asked about this the server stated "40-45 mins is the typical wait time" for entrees. Minutes later the food came out. My husbands steak was well done, I made him cut it in 4 different places before saying anything because I hate complaining, the shrimp had no sauce on it and had a hard texture on top as if it was sitting under the heat lamp. We told the server who initially offered to make another one but who has time for 40-45 mins to wait for another entree? We had to go to put our kids to bed. We did not eat either entree and they did take them off the bill, which good because we didn't eat them. We did enjoy the fries. All in all we left hungry and disappointed that we wasted a babysitter on the restaurant. Server was nice, but this place needs major improvements. First off, I'm not a "fine dining" kind of guy. I greatly prefer a vibrant food hall, an outdoor food truck scene or a local hidden gem that cares less about the experience and more about the food. For me, the food is the experience. I want to taste the passion that goes into the dishes. I want something unique or exceptional. I don't want boring, homogenized menu items that taste the same all across the country. Needless to say, corporate, chain, high dollar steakhouses just aren't my scene. I'm not impressed by extensive wine lists, i find a la carte pricing annoying, i hate valet only parking and I'm a pretty good home chef, I think i cook a better steak. The only time I find myself in places like this is when I'm attending a corporate event in their private dining spaces. Recently I attended such an event and Eddie's pretty much lived up to my expectations. I had a house salad...nothing special (though) the croutons were nice. An interesting combination of crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. An 8 oz filet. It was fine, cooked properly but not well seasoned and a little bland. It came with mashed potatoes but those weren't exciting either. The one food that was exciting was the fresh bread. If I rated EM's on the bread alone, they'd be beyond 5*! It came to the table warm, topped with a wonderful seasoning and a side of softened whipped butter that melted when applied to the bread...that was great. The waitstaff was a highlight as well. Super attentive. If you're into "Fancy" steak houses, you'll probably like this place. But if given the choice, I know I'd enjoy a meal down the road at Hunter House way more than EM's read more

The classiest way to spend a birthday! My wife took me here for my birthday and it was an absolute experience. The decor when you walk in is quite impressive, so you know you're going to have a great time as soon as you walk in. The menu has a really good amount of selections. From different steaks, seafood and the separate sides. During our stay, we each got a wine flight, lobster bisque soup & french onion soup, steak with lobster on top, shrimp, and a mac and cheese side. I had a wonderful experience here! I came for a private dinner reception so my review is based on that. The private room was very clean and well decorated making for a nice ambiance. The staff was very friendly and really knew the menu well! I ordered from a limited menu but none of the courses disappointed. The bread was fresh and warm. I had a Caesar salad which was tasty and then a bowl of the bisque which was delicious! For the main course I had the ribeye which was cooked perfectly and tender. The sides were asparagus, mac n cheese and scalloped potatoes. All were tasty and paired well with the steak. Hubs and I chose to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary here last weekend, and it was excellent! First I had to acknowledge that I'm old, and work a lot of hours. Since I started work last Saturday at 6am, I didn't want a dinner reservation at, well, dinner time. So 4:45pm was our chosen dinner. Okay, MY chosen dinner. I did spend a few minutes at work perusing the menu. I ended up with the Filet Del Mar, and as a chef's favorite special, it also came with a caesar salad. For the main meal, it was a cute lil 4oz file, with crab spread on it, grilled shrimp, and some fingerling potatoes. AH-MAZING! I loved every bite, although the entree felt me-sized (I don't eat much, but I polished this off - people who eat normally may want to get a side to go with). Hubs enjoyed the larger filet, with a side of asparagus (okay, I may have helped with some of those). He said the filet was the best he's had in YEARS. For dessert we shared a bourbon chocolate cake that has some whipped cream, and they lit it on fire. I'm a big fan of fire. Oh, they also had an anniversary card waiting when we got to our table. I've tried to give this place a chance about 4-5 times and every single time it was such a disappointment. They got our orders wrong in the past, even with a carry out but on April 18, 2026 we decided to give it another try and walked out before we ate. We waited almost 1 hour after ordering appetizers which was a basic salad and tuna wonton and did not get it until we finally left. We still paid for it and our drinks but never got to eat a thing. We left and went to Hyde Park and had an entire meal within an hour. There was another table who got up before us as well. We were patient and kind but at one point we just felt like it was so unacceptable. I left my info with the hostess and nobody even bothered to call to apologize. I don't understand how this place is still open! Everyone I know has had a horrible experience here as well. It's sad because this place has so much potential in a great area and it's very nicely decorated but I wouldn't even bother coming back even if my meal was free! read more

Eddie Merlots is a good restaurant with a very nice atmosphere. The food is very good but I'd recommend sticking with the steaks as that is their specialty. I tried the sea bass and it was good, not great. My guest had the lemon chicken and said it was good but I didn't try it. Service the night i was there was sufficient. Perhaps not quite attentive enough. From a price point perspective, it's in line with other high end steakhouses and seafood restaurants but frankly falls a bit short when compared. I think it really boils down to what you order and who you get for your server. read more

We have been to Eddie Merlot Restaurant for special occasions going back for years. For the most part we have always had a good experience. This time we went for my birthday. They did not have the table set up with the rose petals or my card before we sat down, so the waitress was doing it as we were sitting down, which I thought was unprofessional. For the most part, our server was good and attentive. However, the kitchen was delayed cooking steaks and it took a very long time for our entrées and sides to come out. One of our sides, the broccoli, was cold. We had ordered the lobster mashed potatoes and they were not very good at all for the money that it cost for them. The manager was apologetic and helpful when there was a delay in our food and offered us free desserts, which was nice. My husband had to send back his steak because it was medium rare rather than medium. For dessert, we got the carrot cake and the peanut butter cup. The peanut butter cup was my husband's all-time favorite dessert but tonight this time it tasted off. It seemed like they changed the recipe. When we asked the waitress about it she said she was new and didn't know if it was changed, but she would tell the chef. Honestly for the money that we spent on this dinner even with the comped desserts and a $25 birthday certificate I had it was still much more than it should've cost for that level of a meal and service. read more

So, it was good. Was it the best bougie restaurant I've been to in the area? No. First, let me note that the service is outstanding. They're very attentive and mindful. Overall, the food was good. Not great, but good. The appetizers (spinach dip and calamari) we're fine. The calamari didn't come with any sauces mixed if, instead they were served dry and fried, and had some dipping sauces on the side. Something I would expect from Joe's Crab Shack. My sea bass was outstanding, perfectly cooked. The sides were alright, not bad, not the best. My dining mates got steak and shrimp -- they thought it was good, but nothing to write home about.
