My first time here. Extremely courteous greeting staff, seated very quickly. The server was very accommodating and knew the choices very well. As this was a business dinner, we waited for the other guests to arrive but they were quick to bring out sparkling bottled water and plenty of fresh baked bread. The butter was smooth and soft, a hallmark of a place which pays attention to detail. Tried the calamari which was very good and since it was a first time for me - instead of going for the safe chicken entree, I was convinced to try the "Petite Filet", which was the smallest size {8 Oz} and very well prepared. Second time back and experienced the ribeye. It was decent. Just doesn't seem like the cut is up to par. The seasoning is also just ok. The au gratin potatoes are very sub par. The lobster mac n cheese was good in that the lobster wasn't over cooked. Brussel sprouts were decent and also not very memorable. The plating of the food kind of boring in my opinion. Service was great so no worries there. If you get Karen please when saying her name follow it with "if that's your real name". Embrace the angry tirade and enjoy the story. I've been to Ruth's Chris Steak House a handful of times; but I must say, you get the best bang for your buck during restaurant week ($41/per person)... appetizer, main entree, a side, and dessert! The meat comes out on a hot sizzling plate of butter! It smells just as amazing as it tastes!! You also can't go wrong with their ribeye or petite filet.. so juicy!! All of their sides are equally amazing - garlic mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, sweet potato casserole, or steamed broccoli!! I highly recommend coming here for a fancy date night! I love a lobster soup this was bad I threw up mid dinner then the gumbo my mil tried she just about threw up on our table. Our sever was not versed on the menu or restaurant. Our drinks were empty most of the time before a craft was brought for us to serve our selfs. Mind u out small group was about 1000$ so for olive garden food and service I'd say save 800 and go to red lobster Bahama breeze or Texas road house which a table behind us brought up. Now I'm really ticked, I was not aware that a party of five or more gets added on to their tab an extra 20%, so know this before you add your extra tip, check your bill CAREFULLY. The steaks were good, ABOUT 56 bucks each, sides very small for the price 11-12 dollars a portion. Drinks were generous size..., totaled price for 6 over 500+. That means that it was six steaks, 3 sides, and six drinks. way over priced. Ruth's Chris is at the top of the list when it comes to fine dining steak houses. This was my first time here and it definitely won't be the last. It's located inside of the PNC bank building on Big Beaver off of I-75. They offer complimentary valet parking (the valet did ask me if I had a reservation before letting me out of my car so I am unsure if the valet is only for guests with reservations or not). This valet comes in handy since parking here can be a pain! We were seated right away when we walked in. The atmosphere is very upscale and intimate. They do have a dress code however, from what we saw they do enforce it. A reservation is recommended. We had a 9PM reservation and were seated immediately. There were at least three parties waiting to be seated when we walked in. We went with the Ruth's Classic which is the more cost effective than ordering a la carte..which is EXPENSIVE. An 11oz filet is $50 alone. Sides are at least $11 however they are big enough to share. With the Ruth's Classic, I had a salad (which was amazing), a 6oz filet and lobster tail, a personal sized side and an apple pie dessert for $60. You can't beat that! Everything was amazing and cooked perfectly. I HIGHLYYYYYYYY recommend the Lobster Mac and Cheese. I will return here and order that alone. It is big enough to eat as an entree. No complaints about service. Very professional and attentive. Although Ruth's Chris steak is not the best steak I have ever had in my life (IMO, NO steak has beat Coach Insignia which is now closed), this is definitely top 3 thus far. My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate an anniversary we both got their little combinations special. It came with a steak and a side with a dessert. Honestly I didn't know what to expect when coming to this place. The aesthetics are very nice it's a dim lighting very romantic and you can tell that it's expensive that they went beyond. The food was decent, I've been to other steak places and this place was better but I think it was just because their service was really good as well our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable. However, most steak places to me taste very similar and I think it's because I don't have a sensitive palette when it comes to steak. Would I return? Quality no where near the price point. I only go when a gift card is involved. They certainly create the myth with "special steak knives with special steaks." I was laboring to cut my fillet with my special super sharp steak knife. It was ok, nothing great. Same for the sides. $$$$ The desserts are ok, but again nothing special. Server was professional, but a little on the obnoxious side. You only need to tell us 12 times that the plate is 500 degrees. You can certainly get more bang for your buck at a variety of places. read more

If you're reading this, I hope it catches you in time to know there's a dress code! This was my first time here, and there's a sign by the front that says their dress code is business-casual. I definitely didn't know this, and the looks I got from the hostesses made me feel quite embarrassed. Granted, I wasn't wearing sweatpants, but it would have been nice to know ahead of time that there's a dress code, so if you didn't know, now you know! Anyways, the service was very quick. The 'Mushrooms Stuffed with Crabmeat' were very, very good. For my entree, I had the 'Petite (8 oz.) Filet', and my grandmother had the 'Lamb Chops'. My filet was delicious, and my grandmother said the lamb chops were some of the best she's ever had. My only complaint is that the presentation is... the worst I've ever seen (see attached photo). The images on their website look stunning. The presentation cheapened the experience. It makes me wonder how it left the kitchen without someone thinking that perhaps it should be moved to a clean plate or that the plate should at least be wiped off. This was her birthday dinner and I recommended we try Ruth's. For the price you pay, the presentation was disappointing. I just hope that Ruth's will do better in the future, that's all. We got clean silverware immediately after receiving our entrees, so that was nice. The staff is polite, and the girl who brings the food out (I didn't get her name) was especially nice. Since it was my grandmother's birthday, we got a complimentary slice of strawberry shortcake. That was a nice touch. We had a good time and I'll probably come again. read more

I used to be a huge fan of Ruth's Chris but I would say it has gone done. The food used to be so delicious with the steaks cooked perfectly but not anymore. The last two times my husband and I visited, my steaks were over cooked. I ordered my steak a medium rare but it was more of a medium well making it dry and tasteless. The lobster tails were delicious but was it in comparison to my over cooked steak? One of my favorite parts of Ruth Chris used to be the steaks on the hot skillet but with the steaks over cooked, it's not worth it. We spend over $200 on our dinners and to leave disappointed is not that great. Unfortunately, we now go to other restaurants for our steaks. Visited Ruth Chris in Troy, MI last night. the food was excellent. The service was very good. We had a reservation for a "romantic spot" for two in the restaurant. Host offered a 2 top in the middle of 20+ tables instead; we waited for a booth. Well worth the wait. When the menus arrived at our table, the girl who brought them reeked of Marijana. That odor stayed at the table for about 10 minutes. I lost my appetite. This place offers fantastic food and professional waiter / Waitress service but really needs to address the odor problem and honor reservation requests. We spent over $300 last night there. Perhaps I'm wrong in comparing Ruth's to previous high-end restaurants I've dined at in the past, but as far as a "white tablecloth" establishment, Ruth's came up lacking. Other reviews raved about the superior service, beginning with the greeting upon entering. My husband and I were greeted by a woman behind the host stand who perfunctorily said "Welcome to Ruth's Chris, do you have a reservation?" while barely looking up. She found our reservation, asked if we'd prefer a table or booth, and seated us. Our waiter, Frank, was friendly and attentive, but also casual...as in "Hey, how are y'all tonight?" type of greeting that one would expect at an Outback or Texas Roadhouse. He was knowledgeable about the menu items and wines, and even asked whose birthday it was (my husband had checked the birthday box on our online reservation; this was his present to me) and that was the last we heard about my "special occasion". No complimentary dessert or even a candle in the potatoes au gratin. (Why ask twice if you're not going to provide some sort of "treat"; apparently they're just mining for information for future email spam.) Price-wise Ruth's is trying to present itself as on par with the fine dining restaurants of yesteryear, but I'd frequented white-tablecloth eateries in the 1980s and 1990s (Golden Mushroom, Duglass Duglass, Lelli's, Carl's Chop House, Mario's) which were of the same price point at Ruth's but the service was a noticeable step or two above Ruth's. I don't expect servers to cut my steak or wipe my nose, but when you're paying Red Carpet prices you expect a certain level of elegance - something a cut above the ordinary, something a little more formal than you'd receive at the local Cracker Barrel. That being said, our steaks were cooked to our specifications and were delicious, particularly the Cowboy Ribeye my husband ordered. Tender and juicy right down to the bone. The creamed spinach was very tasty and the potatoes au gratin were so melt-in-your mouth delicious that they could've been listed on the dessert menu. read more

Starting the year with a birthday dinner at Ruth's was a fun way to celebrate 2018. We made a reservation a day in advance, as it is recommended to do so (although not required). There isn't any seating in the waiting area, which wouldn't be a problem if we were seated right at our reserved time. We ended up waiting ten or so minutes before being seated, which wasn't that much of an issue. However, the hostess in the front desk area gave off a very rude attitude in her tone overall. She told us to wait before disappearing and leaving the front desk empty, and only returned to rudely say "this way" and walk away without even waiting to make sure we were following her. Probably one of the most unpleasant greetings at a restaurant I've experienced in all honesty. Luckily, once we were seated, the waitress was very friendly and made sure that we felt welcome at the restaurant. We started off with a bottle of 50 Acre Ranch Cabernet, which everyone really enjoyed. It was very smooth, with hints of vanilla and berries, making it an easy dinner wine. For our appetizers, we got the calamari to share and Caesar salads. I thought the Caesar salad was rich in flavor, and the quality of the vegetables were very fresh. The calamari itself was good quality as well, but I thought the spicy/sweet glaze on top was a tad bit too sweet. The glaze flavor was a bit overwhelming, but overall the starters were all tasty. The steaks at Ruth's are their speciality, and I was definitely impressed by the quality of the beef. I went with the 16oz RibEye, a side of the grilled asparagus, and seasoned fries. The meat was cooked to perfection (medium rare), and I particularly enjoyed the pepper seasoning which gave it a bit of a kick in both heat and flavor. The plates the meat is served on is scorching hot, which keeps it hot for the entirety of the meal. My sister ordered the filet mignon served with grilled shrimp, which was also cooked to perfection. The side portions were fairly big and can definitely be shared by at least two people. Overall, our server was great and we enjoyed our meals at Ruth's. She was very humorous and also very attentive to anything we needed. Minus the rude hostess in the beginning, I enjoyed my experience at Ruth's and will definitely be back in the future. read more

Came here to celebrate a family dinner with our parents from Europe. For us it was also a first experience at Ruth's. I'm used to Capital Grille quality, so I was a little worried if they can do equally good. Now I can say, that I'm satisfied, and Ruth is going to be my second place for good steak. Food: we went with the Ruth Classic which is a very good deal. Appetizer: carrot ginger soup was delicious, the additon of shredded coconut and cilantro was a point! Other people at the table had a salad with red and yellow beets and they also said it was delicious. Main: we all went with 6oz filet with shrimp and one with horseradish crust. The meat was cooked perfectly, and it was served on a hot plate. Seasoned perfectly it was much better than Morton's, and maybe slightly worst than Capital. Shrimps were very juicy too. As for sides, we had crab fried rice, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes. All were very good. The dessert (apple galette with vanilla ice cream) made a prefect final to our delicious meal. Service: our server was very attentive and did a great job. She explained everything that comes with the Classic, and was taking a good care of our table. We came here for Valentine's Day. Very busy night as expected. We were seated after a brief wait, which was odd since we had reservations. The ambiance was great. Our server was nice but I feel our waitress was taking care of too many tables around us all at the same time. It took us 45 mins to order beyond drinks. We ordered the surf and turf celebration special with the largest filet (11oz) and two lobster tails to split. The food was great, however, I felt like the filet was small for 11oz. It seemed more like an 8oz filet. The manager came over at the end to thank us for coming to celebrate on VDay and gifted us a $25 giftcard for a return visit. This is definitely a classic place that I like to go to. We came here last night during the freezing weather. The lounge and the bar area in front are very cozy. The bartender, waiters, and hostesses were all extremely friendly and welcoming. We had drinks at the bar in which the bartender made me a martini that was off the menu. We got a table and sat down to order dinner. We started out with bread and the ahi tuna stack - Excellent! We also ordered a Caesar salad to share which was standard. My friend had a steak which I thought was good considering that I don't eat red meat much. I ordered the Seabass - soft, flaky, and succulent. We decided to order the chocolate cake and the crème brûlée for dessert. Both were nice. At dinner I had a vodka drink. This used to be our favorite place to go and grab a wonderful meal. We were so disappointed to leave tonight having an awful meal. Everything was over cooked (lamb chops, and 11 oz filet). The crab cake appetizer was mush and didn't taste fresh at all. The Caesar salad was good and my husband loved his lobster bisque. Our server was amazing (Miranda), but unfortunately after a $278 bill for an absolutely horrible meal we were discouraged . It's a shame how horrible the food has become here. There are many restaurants on Big Beaver with better food. The Manager did a check after we paid the bill. He didn't care that we had "not good" meals. I am a steak guy. I have eaten at every steakhouse you can think of in metro-Detroit, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Miami. I am very picky when it comes to judging a steakhouse because to be honest, they are the best and deserve the most love AND criticism. Ruth's Chris is hands-down the greatest steakhouse I have ever eaten at. The atmosphere, ambiance, service, and selection are all important, but nothing takes precedence over the STEAK. Ruth's excels in all categories ESPECIALLY the most important one. Their steaks are perfectly seasoned and tender and packed with flavor so you never need to add anything. Also, the steak has been cooked to perfect temperature at my request EVERY single time. This consistency is what keeps me coming back. Not to mention, I have eaten at other locations, even as far as Cancun, Mexico, and the experience was the same. That's what a steakhouse should be. Everything a steakhouse should be, Ruth's Chris is. Recommendations: Drinks: ALL. But my favorite is the Blackberry Sidecar. Appetizer: Spicy Lobster. I am not a huge lobster fan, yet this is one of the most delicious dishes I have even allowed near my palette. Entree: 11 oz. Filet Mignon, cooked medium and ask them to butterfly it.
