Love this place. I hadn't been back in around 10 years, because I no longer work in the area. Wife was craving a baked potato and I told her I knew the right place. They've expanded in size since I've been there. I thought the gentleman taking our order seemed annoyed at first probably because we showed up around 30 minutes before closing time (we get it). He didn't laugh at my wife's jokes, but warmed up after we asked if the same family own this place. Happy to know this was true after he explained. Very great BBQ find today during a random Yelp search for lunch. The pork ribs plate was a serious barbecue meal with 4 meaty, tender, and juicy ribs and 2 sides for $10.99. My two sides were the potato salad which was creamy and well seasoned and the cole slaw which was crunchy-fresh with a basic mayo dressing. The friendly staff at the drive-thru made getting lunch very easy, and it appeared all employees were wearing masks which is encouraging to see right now. Just note, the ribs were served with sauce(slightly sweet, spicy, tangy tomato based) on top, but were flavorful enough not to even need it. Next time, I'll ask for sauce on the side. read more

I was in the neighborhood and saw this local bbq place. I'm always in favor of supporting small businesses. This is a mom-and-pop local business that I then checked out on yelp. It had decent reviews so I decided to try it. Some of the reviews said good things about the brisket and ribs. When I saw the state of the ribs (appeared dry and to have been sitting a while under steam) on the selection table, I decided to forego the ribs and select just the brisket instead. (The ribs might not normally be this way because I can a couple hours after the lunch rush). The entire brisket was wrapped completely in plastic which created a concern for me, but I kept an open mind. Along with the brisket I asked for suggestions for the sides and received a fairly useless response of "it's all good." So I chose the beans and potato salad. Mom was very gracious. She seemed to care about me enjoying my meal. Pop was abrupt and only cared about getting my money. This was somewhat off-putting. When I opened my food container, I saw some beef that had a very slight smoke ring but mostly looked like a pot roast color. Upon trying it, it essentially tasted like pot roast - it was pretty tasteless with no smoke flavor. Relatively surprising for a place with "smokehouse" in the name. I felt like I needed flavor for the meat, so I tried the sauce. I usually don't want sauce on good Texas brisket, but this brisket needed it. The house sauce was good for my taste - it wasn't sweet or overly sour. It had a tanginess that I enjoyed. There was some bottled bbq on the condiment bar but I'm not sure that was the house sauce. The potato salad was good. It was smooth but not creamy. The beans would be good if I wanted sweet beans with bbq. There were a mixture of different beans and it seemed to be cooked with brown sugar or maybe molasses, a bit sweeter than the old pork and beans. If you enjoy sweet beans, which I don't, then the beans might be good for you. The onions and pickles on the condiment bar were all cut fresh. I probably will not return here even if I'm in the neighborhood. The star of the show in a bbq joint should be the bbq. It's not here. Unfortunately, the sides outshined the meat. Maybe the meats are better during the rush periods. I will personally never know. For the brisket alone, I would've given only one star. But because the sides and house sauce were good and the v pickles and onions were very fresh, I gave an extra star. read more

The barbecue here is A-OK. The sides are even better. My wife and I stopped in on a recent Saturday because I was jonesing for some smoked brisket and links. She was interested in ribs, so we split a three-meat plate. We chose sides of slaw and potato salad. First, the slaw was creamy cool. Good stuff. The potato salad was also delicious, and reminiscent of the starchy goodness I grew up on in northeast Texas -- sort of a mayo/mustard mixture. My brisket was sliced thin and was a tad on the dry side. But, in all fairness to the restaurant, it had very little fat on it. (Most people prefer it that way.) The ribs weren't as meaty as some out there, but had good flavor. The links were ... links. I could be wrong, but it tasted like they use mesquite wood to smoke with. I think, next time, I'm going to go for a chopped beef sandwich, as another customer's looked divine. Like most barbecue joints, this place offers counter service. The trimmings are at a self-serve bar. The owners are friendly, and their restaurant is spick and span clean. Nice little restaurant worthy of future business. read more

Great service from friendly people serving tasty BBQ. I have been coming here for years, and particularly enjoy the sliced brisket sandwich. The good news for me is that they have a great combo with chips and a drink that is very reasonably priced. This place is a little out of the way from work but it always is worth the trip to me. Situated in Webster in the neighborhood, if I over nearby I would walk here regularly for lunch or dinner. The downside is that their parking lot is not very big, but the dining area is comfortable and they have a drive thru. Very personable service whichever way you chose. ryan's smokehouse has made a new fan out of me! i've driven by this place for years and years and never thought much of it. however, spurred on by hunger pangs and some favorable yelp reviews, i thought i'd check this place out with my brother. the place is somewhat hidden away, but it's visible from highway 3. it looks like it used to be smaller, but they've built an extension to it with some additional indoor seating and a patio. as others have mentioned, the place appears to be run by some asian people who seemed very nice. my bro and i both ordered the chow down potato....and Shawn M. was right! this thing was monstrous, and darn good. you can see the composition from the photo, but it belies how large it really is. they are generous with the brisket, and the sauce is perfect - just enough sweetness, but not overdone. and the potato is just 6.75! very reasonable! anyhow, this is a place i definitely will come back to...i'll try to tell myself to sample their other meats or menu items, but i have a feeling i'm just going to find myself ordering the chow down potato each time :) read more

Drive through window is a great way to quickly pick up a half rack of ribs. Easy seating for parties up to 15 or so. Off street parking, with extra parking in large lot across the street. Life size poster of Yao Ming in the west dining room; (despite the name, the owners are not Irish; they're Chinese.) So so: other meats are good, brisket is about as good as several other nearby BBQ joints. Limited selection of sides, small relish bar. Cramped bathrooms, down-at-the-heels decor. The ribs were not as good as I would've liked, but the sausage was absolutely perfect. I paired it with a coleslaw and potato salad. The Potato salad was a bit spicier than I like, but the cole slaw I was absolutely divine. When you consider that all of this wonderful food was mine for less than $12, it just doesn't get any better than that. I didn't see a huge stack of firewood anywhere, but I wasn't looking for it either. The restaurant itself has an outer section and an inner sanctum. The inner area is where you order. They offer the standards, sliced brisket, chopped beef, ribs, sausage, and probably chicken. I got the sliced brisket po boy, which is just a bbq sandwich on a po boy roll. There's a fixins bar. I had the rib sandwich. I was skeptical at first because at most places a "rib sandwich" usually consist of 2 slices of white bread and 2 ribs. At Ryans they actually take 2 ribs and remove the meat and chop it up and put it on a bun with a bit of sauce. I was quite surprised and pleased. My wife had a chopped beef sandwich but it was more like pulled beef....it was ok. We both really liked the buns on the sandwich. They didn't get all soggy real fast. Brisket had that nice smoke ring, giant pork rib was outstanding (take *that* tofu!!!) and sausage was really good. Sides were good as well but I came for the MEAT. Liked the simple but clean interior. Folks here genuinely cared about doing terrific in food and service. I was a nickel short in my change for the bill and that was dismissed. Nice little family owned BBQ joint! The two meat combo plate with two sides is less than $11, they fill the entire plate with just meat and then give you two cups filled of sides. Brisket was tender and so was the ribs! Sausage was also very tasty. The people at super friendly, both my husband and I ate the two meat combo, with each a drink for $28 total! The menu is simple and offers the sides that need to be offered with BBQ. The chopped beef and link sausage are right on point along with the ribs and brisket. But the sauce is phenomenal! It is a balance of vinegar and sweetness with a very mild heat-the goodness of all worlds! The BBQ beans are tender and savory. The coleslaw isn't over creamy and the flavor is very tasty. I never eat all my sides-only a few bites-but I ate every bit of my sides. The place itself is very welcoming and exceptionally clean!
