This used to be one of my favorite spots in town, which makes this review a tough one to write. Since the ownership changed, the quality has noticeably gone downhill. It feels like the focus has shifted more toward profit than maintaining the level of food they used to be known for. The difference is pretty obvious. Unfortunately, my last experience was the tipping point--I got sick after eating there, which makes it hard to justify going back. There are two classic mistakes here. When you try to combine the cuisine of 5 countries (Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Mongolian) chances are you won't do a good job in any of them. Also, when the menu is too big, chances are each dish is not getting enough attention to quality, and the ingredients won't be fresh. I had a few decent appetizers. But the Thai curry was terrible. Panang curry is traditionally supposed to be reduced to a thick, rich, and creamy consistency. Mine was soupy and hadn't been reduced at all. The pieces of ingredients were too big. Some of the potato pieces weren't cooked enough, and there was no Thai basil flavor in there. The service and ambiance are ok. read more

Simply outstanding, and amazingly priced for a resort town! We were riding up the lift with two Crested Butte residents and asked them where to eat. They both said, "Ryce" and recommended the Fourteener. I went and did as I was told and was not disappointed! The meal was outstanding, and the portions LARGE, all for just $21. Also had the shrimp tempura as an appetizer and it was the best I've ever eaten. (And it was only $10.). If you want good food, at a good value, this is the place. Only downside is that they get pretty crowded, so service can be slow, but we got through it. read more

I just discovered Ryce and it's awesome bartender Wen. I left Secret Stash because I could not get the attention of the bartender, so I walked across the street and was greeted with total awesomeness by Wen the second I sat down at his bar. We never expected to have authentic Asian food in a mountain town. While all restaurants here had a line, this one seems to have more room to wait around (very nice patio), so we decided to wait here. We were impressed by the portion of food that's served, no matter appetizer or entree, they're all a good, healthy size. The Salad with grilled beef was enough for the 3 of us to share. I ordered the Teriyaki shrimp because they sold out of the other dish I had wanted. But I'm glad I got the shrimp, there were so many of them on my plate and large, too! Only thing is the dish was way sweeter than I would've liked. But, it was adorned with enough veggies so the only setback would be the sugar from the teriyaki sauce, lol. Hubby got the Pad see ew with chicken. We were caught off guard when we saw the wide/thick noodles. Thought Pad see ew is usually thin/skinny noodles. It's quite alright though since I personally love "chow fun" noodles. Plus this dish was hot off the wok. As it started to get dark sitting outside and feeling a bit chilly, this warm noodle dish ended up being the most popular at the table. My only complaint is that it was a tad on the sweeter side. The menu was a bit confusing as several dishes have unique names (i.e. not "pad Thai") and do not have descriptions, so it's hard to get an idea for the dishes without bugging the waiter/waitress. We ultimately went with crab wontons and drunken noodles with chicken. The wontons were tasty, but there were maybe 3 pieces of crab total across our 8 wontons -- they were almost entirely cream cheese. The drunken noodles were super salty and, while they were fine, we didn't enjoy them that much. The portions are HUGE, and we had plenty of leftovers. Our waitress was really nice and friendly and gave us some great recommendations for our time in town. I'd give Ryce another shot but would not revisit the wontons or drunken noodles next time. read more

Phone order was quick and easy, but upon arriving I got to wait a solid minute for the bartender to look up from blatantly texting before being acknowledged. Ordered pad thai and 6 steamed pork dumplings. In terms of quantity, no problem there, as the pad Thai felt like an 8 pound brick in my hand. Plenty for double leftover meals. The dumpling contents tasted good, but they seemed a bit under-steamed. As for the pad thai, I was astonished at how flavorless it was. Never had such bland pad thai in my life. The ingredients seem quality, but the taste is nonexistent. $26 for two orders of blah. When they say Asian Bistro, they mean it -- they do Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and a few others under one roof. This was a great suggestion for dinner. We sat next to a window where we could look down and see the stream. Service was fast and friendly though it took a wait to get our check. I had the basil shrimp. The shrimp, cooked perfectly over a bed of veggies with rice on the side. Didn't care for the celery in it but everything else was perfect. My husband had shrimp noodles with a curry type sauce. Also very good. Lots of noodles and not too many veggies. Old Fashioneds were also good. The Bullitt my favorite. We'll be back! read more

Their service was good, and the food was also good, but not amazing. We got the calamari appetizer and the dipping sauce didn't have a lot of flavor so we asked for a sweet chili sauce to dip in, but it ended up just being chili with oil and had no flavor. I ordered shrimp with vegetables, which was pretty good, but a lot of the vegetables ended up being cooked celery, which is not my favorite. My friends ordered the Fourteener which they enjoyed. Ryce Asian Bistro does the trick if you're in the mood for Asian fusion in Downtown Crested Butte. Big portions and big flavors. The restaurant itself has a nice outdoor patio and giant garage doors inside. The kitchen was busy throughout our dinner with the restaurant filling up and a lot of takeout orders. We got there right when they opened for dinner on a Sunday, which I recommend getting there early. Though our server was very cool at the beginning of the evening, she warmed up throughout our meal. I wish the menus had more descriptions of each dish, as opposed to merely the name of it. She wasn't super helpful at explaining. This also lead to us over-ordering food. Let me tell you personally, the portions are Hulk-sized! I was craving curry all weekend, and this massive dish presented itself well. They have many different types of cuisines on the menu, this was of the Thai variety. The chicken was tender and plentiful, and the broth/rice combo was clutch. Like, so clutch, bro. What else did we have? The whole kitchen! I started off with Kimchi, we ordered a giant bowl of Tofu Fried Rice for the table, and leftovers were a' plenty. Two of my friends and I were seated in the patio area, which unfortunately wasn't very clean. The waiter was in a hurry to take our food order, even though it was clear that we weren't ready yet. When the food finally arrived, two of us were served, but the third person's meal did not come with it. We waited and waited for the third person's food to be served, while the waiter kept telling us, "It's coming, it's coming." However, after 20 minutes, we called the waiter over and inquired about our order. It was obvious that the waiter was angry when we requested to cancel the missing meal.. and actually the food that we received wasn't very good. We will not be going back. Had a great dinner here with our friends who are locals; it is one of their favorites. We had a great martini at the bar, then enjoyed our dinner at a booth overlooking the creek. Everything was really tasty and generous portions - the mussel appetizers, the Fourteener (shrimp, chicken, beef, little scallops and veggies with rice), the Mongolian beef, General Tsao's shrimp and shrimp w/ peanut sauce. We went there on red lady celebration night. Lots of people waiting in line. Service was ok, we got seated fairly quickly. Place is clean. Food wise, we ordered Chinese egg roll and Thais pad see ew. Oh the sauce was horrible! The bottom half was all soaked in watery sauce. The flavor is waaaay too sweet. Looked terrible too. Definitely not recommend these two dishes to anyone. I am deeply disappointed by the experience my husband and I had at Ryce Asian Bistro last month. We ordered the Vegetable Tempura and Sweet and Sour Chicken dishes and unfortunately, both of us got symptoms of food poisoning  that night(we shared both dishes ). The symptoms were so severe that I had to seek medical attention at the emergency room due to multiple episodes of diarrhea, fainting, violent vomiting and later developed post-vomiting purpura, and subconjunctival hemorrhage which lasted multiple weeks. My husband experienced milder symptoms but suffered nonetheless. Given the unexpected turn of events and the impact this incident had on our trip, we were compelled to shorten our stay in Crested Butte. I contacted the health department shortly after, However, since we did not keep any leftovers, there is no lab tested proof. Given that this was the only meal we had that day(aside from trail mix ,granola bars , chips and instant oatmeal ), it's clear that the restaurant was the source of our food poisoning. In addition , as a healthcare worker I am obsessive about perfect hand hygiene . A few weeks later , when I mostly  recovered , I spoke on the phone with the restaurant's manager, expressing our concerns and disappointment. While initially, there seemed to be an agreement on reimbursement for our meal, the response I received via email was quite different. The manager declined to refund us. Seems odd that I am tipping for food poisoning . By offering a reimbursement, the restaurant would have demonstrated a commitment to customer well-being and satisfaction, rather than prioritizing profit. This experience has left me hesitant to trust Ryce Asian Bistro and sadly, I am compelled to caution my friends, family, and others against dining there. Please see attached images read more

My Yelp reviews are based on three considerations: food, atmosphere, service. I had high hopes for Ryce. We ordered the Thai Drunken Noodles and Asian Lettuce Wrap. While the portions were generous, however, the Drunken Noodles were swimming in salty soy sauce and the Lettuce Wrap was salty minced chicken with a side of rice and lettuce. The food was disappointing. The atmosphere was nice with indoor and outdoor seating. The service could have been better with more attentive staff instead of a drop-and-go service. To top things off, I paid my bill using the QR code on the invoice and our server came running after us to ask if we were going to pay. While I showed the email confirmation proving that I paid my bill, it occurred to me that the server didn't care until I was out the door. read more

We dined here Monday evening after finding it to be one of the few open restaurants in town. We waited a short time to be seated at the comfortable outdoor patio, which was well-shaded. Service was punctual and overall adequate -- not super friendly, but got the job done. Prices are about on par with the rest of Crested Butte, and the portion sizes for meals are quite large. We weren't super hungry after a large lunch, so the four of us shared gyoza, red lady shrimp, and the chicken lettuce wraps. The red lady shrimp was the weakest link. The breading was very mushy and you could peel it right off with your finger. The shrimp also weren't deveined, which was not awesome. The chicken lettuce wraps and gyoza were both just okay. The ground chicken mixture also had some veggies mixed in, but it wasn't super flavorful and the lettuce leafs were still quite wet. As for the gyoza, they were pleasantly crispy but also on the bland side. Overall, if I happened to come back, I would probably try something different from what I got. read more

The past 2 nights we had the Tom Yam soup, the jalapeño beef, the beef salad, the lemongrass chicken, pan fried dumplings, and the chicken satay. Every dish was outstanding. Excellent asian food with good large portions for the price. The fried rice was great, lots of vegan options, very helpful and friendly staff, and located just a bit away from the busiest section of this street. We got the veggie stir fry and spicy fried rice, the spice was on point! Seeing the pictures of crowds compared to how busy most shops are now is saddening and I hope these places can get back to normal operations soon. Please come support local businesses. read more
