I live next door so this is a place we go to once in a while, it made its way through the pandemic thankfully and has remodeled, seems to be doing better than before. A lot of places come and go on this corridor and they have stayed a while: I think because of decent quality and nice service. It's right on the tourist corridor too, which leads to overcrowding/bad tourist vibes at times, so usually we order out and pick up. The prices are just higher enough that we don't go often (markup for location likely) but it's not too bad and reliably good food. read more

I got suddenly hungry just before catching a show at the Nederland Theater and needed a quick bite. I'm glad they had so many vegetarian options for rolls - I liked the sweet potato roll. It satisfied the quick craving and they were efficient on preparation time as well as prices. read more

One of the best sushi restaurants I've been to in River North. Every single item we ordered was amazing and fresh from appetizers to dessert. We frequent sushi when we travel because it's light and there's usually so many options; Ryo is now in my top 3 when visiting chicago. had an amazing experience with some great food. got seated right away and got some time to look over the menu. decided to start with the avocado boat which is not what i expected. the salad wasn't that bad i thought the ginger dressing was a bit watery. the flavors were interesting but texture was a little off. for entree i got sweet potato roll and angel roll. omg the angel roll was the best sushi i've had yet. place was so chill too and the severs were very nice. i will be back read more

Was super happy to find this sushi spot in the loop when we needed a break from classic Chicago pizza-hotdog tasting. The place was not packed and didn't require reservations. The ambiance was chill, and waiters gave us all attention needed. We ordered 3 sushi rolls and food came quickly. We really liked all of them, fish and other ingredients were fresh and I'd say that we were delighted by the size of these rolls. The prices were more than fair and location is just perfect. Needed a place to eat near millennium park, and this place fit the bill! It wasn't too crowded, seemed like mostly families having lunch, so I was seated and served right away. They have decent lunch specials, and I added nigiri to my two roll combo. I will say, I like Philadelphia Rolls, but these were very heavy on the cream cheese. This place was great! So close to the bean and the L station as well as lots of other places like Macy's. Small area inside but plenty of seating and very clean bathrooms! We all ordered 2 rolls and split an order of edamame, there was so much edamame we couldn't finish between the 3 of us. Well priced menu and high quality sushi options with large portions. The service was fast, they filled our waters and were extremely attentive to us. I'd recommend this to my friends! read more

I've come to Ryo for takeout a few times. They are my favorite sushi location in the loop. Prices are pretty reasonable compared to other sushi shops downtown. The interior is very casual and it's clear they do a lot more takeout than dine in, but it's always been clean. Staff is very friendly and food comes out lightening fast. They have an open cabinet for drinks. Great for a grab and go work lunch or dinner. My go to place in the loop. Would recommend. read more

Ordered delivery from Ryo and was pleasantly surprised! I thought the jalapeño sashimi was great for its value, I actually preferred it over the sashimi set. The yellowtail in the jalapeño sashimi was super buttery and I loved the ponzu they included to dip. It was also packaged very securely! If you're looking for a quick sushi bite on a budget, this is the place for you. I had all this for less than for $40. The fish is not omakase level and rather bland. I'm not dishing the establishment but for the price, it's what you'll get. At least there was no fishy odor and tasted clean. Just not at the level of a higher quality sushi joint. The staff are friendly and helpful. Clean and open. Nice touristy atmosphere. I was disappointed that they did not serve any alcohol. That would've made the meal a little better. As much as I had, I left still feeling hungry. There are better sushi restaurants in Chicago but you'll pay a higher premium. Enjoy at your own prerogative. read more

Stopped by to order some lunch to-go. The restaurant is a short walk from Millennium Park. The inside is cute and clean and well set up. It's somewhat small inside but still a place you can stop and get lunch with a friend. I ordered miso soup and the rainbow roll. Loved the miso soup and how it came out warm and hot. RYO was amazing, especially their takeout. The to go box was probably one of the nicest ones. Its similar to Sugar Fish in LA. Everything tasted really fresh and delicious. My takeout ended up being about $90. Sure theres cheaper, but I think its good for special occasions. I don't think I would be able to buy this everyday. It also depends on the deivery service you use, like ubereats. Depending on how they handle it, some things may be out of place as well. My Ikura was kind of spilled outside its compartment. The name card that was outside of the bag was a nice touch. Can't wait for the next special occasion. Everyone was pretty impressed by the packaging. read more

Spicy salmon roll and yellowtail roll from with a healthy side of spicy mayo! Their spicy mayo was actually really good, more on the spicy side and it really elevated the rolls, which were also fresh and delicious. I ordered the Chicago roll and Chicken teriyaki dish from Ryo Sushi off Uber Eats. I was super excited to try them as I am a big fan of sushi and Asian cuisine. The chicken teriyaki portion was quite hearty, packed with chicken, and plain veggies. The Chicago roll was also yummy but the fish didn't taste the most fresh. This place is such a hidden gem! Pictured is a spicy tuna roll, tuna avocado roll, veggie roll, mountain roll (sub white tuna), and an asparagus roll. Located right next to Millennium Park, you would think this place might be expensive, but it was actually the most affordable delicious sushi ever. Everything was so fresh and the menu was pretty big. We also got the house salad and the creamy ginger dressing that came on it was so good, I wanted to get a spoon and drink it. This place was small and quaint, but had a fun atmosphere. It was bright inside and had a modern feel. It was perfect for a casual Friday night dinner. It's BYOB too, so you can bring a bottle of wine for no charge. I will be returning!!!! read more

Rolled up with a party of 8, was nervous at first as it wasn't busy on a Saturday night. But boy did they fill up the second we sat down. Sushi was very good! Went here on a weekend trip to Chicago and stopped for dinner after visiting the Pier. We flipped through the menu and just went with the boat. In addition to the boat, we had edamame and miso soup. I can't tell if it's just because I'm a Socal San Gabriel valley kind of person (lol), but there's nothing that explicitly stood out or was magnificently impressive about the sides. Quick bite to eat after a work meeting across the street. First ones in the restaurant at 11:30. A very clean hole-in-the-wall restaurant, with restrooms oddly placed right in the middle of the main room. We ordered the Mango California, the lion roll and the Jeweler's roll. Jeweler's was not memorable; lion was surprisingly dry; Mango was amazing and worth the visit. Would come back to just order this one roll! read more

My friend who is from Japan that I ate with said this place was ok for American standards but not at all great compared to anything in Japan lol.

Most of the food comes through a conveyor belt next to the table, it is basically self serve. For some items I ordered it through an ipad on the table. No person was taking my order, nobody was actively 'serving' me in the traditional sense. Yet in the end I was presented with a terminal, in the hand of a person directly looking at my tip choice, with no quick button for 'no tip'. Perhaps the option was there, but it was so obscure I couldn't find it quickly. If it's a paper signature slip, it's still considered uncouth today to hover over the customer while they write the tip in. What are we doing here? It is literally a conveyor belt sushi, yet tips starting at 18% is clearly still expected. This practice tarnished the experience for me.

Some other AYCE places start to rate limit our group once they catch on that they're probably going to lose money off of us, but they continued to be prompt and quick with successive plates. Three-- cuts are thick here. I almost got full off of the first round because the salmon and tuna nigiri were surprisingly heftier than expected, and at a good fish to rice ratio at that. They have a good selection of nigiri and rolls. Only con is that the only way to get sashimi is via a sashimi salad on their menu, but that's no issue when the service and variety with everything else is fantastic! Would definitely visit again when in the area!

I almost decided to save Miru for our next visit, but I'm glad I made time for breakfast here on our departure day. Located inside the St. Regis Chicago, the restaurant offers beautiful views. The service was excellent--attentive, friendly, and professional. I ordered the Tokyo Breakfast. The salmon was perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with rice, a soft-poached egg, and salmon roe. The miso soup was slightly salty on its own, but it worked surprisingly well when enjoyed with the rice toward the end of the meal. Overall, a memorable breakfast experience. I'd love to return and try the lunch or dinner menu on my next trip to Chicago.

The sushi is phenomenal, as were our drinks... but the other entrees are disappointing. The karaage and duck yakisoba in particular in quality could be from any corner restaurant in Chicago. The service lends itself more casual, and I noticed they were consistently quite slow to clear our table. I don't think people come here for the food as much as the views. Overlooking Streeterville from this angle and vantage was truly jaw dropping and for this reason I still strongly recommend Miru.

The tuna piece was the only I really loved. The fish quality wasn't as high as I was expecting. The sushi was decent. A little too much truffle in the spicy blue fin tuna and a little too vegetable forward in the hamachi serrano. All in all, the atmosphere and amazing service pushed this up to a 4 for me.

The restaurant houses both an omakase counter and an izakaya, but in completely separate spaces. The omakase side is an intimate, beautifully designed counter with around 10 seats. We were the only guests that evening, so the whole experience felt wonderfully private -- just us, Chef Shoji, and the fish. Chef Shoji opens the meal by presenting the actual fish you'll be eating, all flown in twice a week from Japan or Spain. It immediately signals what kind of meal you're in for. The 20 courses were well-paced and the quality was consistent throughout. Nigiri and sashimi were pristine, but the hot dishes were equally impressive, which surprised me. Both sides of the menu showed real craft and attention to detail. Service was fantastic -- warm, attentive, and never stuffy. At $210 per person, it's a special occasion meal, but one that genuinely delivers on the price. As someone who eats a lot of omakase back home in LA, I wasn't sure what to expect. I left genuinely impressed. Highly recommend if you're looking for a serious sushi experience in Chicago!!!
