His communication was clear, his work was clean and professional, and he handled the entire project exactly as promised. I addressed the Yelp confusion with him after signing the proposal, and after doing my own thorough research, I confirmed that Samir's explanation was accurate. Most importantly, Samir started the job with no deposit, passed all inspections, and I paid him only after the work was fully completed and approved. That level of trust and integrity is rare. Samuel never finished the job from October of 2019. He was all about me paying in full up front, which I was happy to do. I understand business, owning one of my own. They were supposed to come back and add pavers for an extra charge that I paid to cover the grass where they could not pave. He was also supposed to add cement to close the gap between my garage door and the driveway. As you can see by the picture, they actually stopped short in the gap area and I get lovely visitors all the time. I've texted Samuel so many times over the last year and a half, called him dozens of times, left messages and he picked up once about 6 months ago and he said he'd call me back the next day and of course he didn't. I'm shocked at some of these bad reviews. A lot of people are mistaking this man's business with someone else because my experience was excellent! Everyone walking on my block loved the concrete in front of my house. Sam has done a lot of work for a lot of businesses in Chicago which is how I heard about him and every sign I see is S&A. I can't thank Sam and his team enough for the great job they did. I asked him if he can get the job done before my father came home from the hospital sometime last year and he made it happen even though he had a lot of other jobs to do. While Sam the owner seemed to have good intentions it ended up being a nightmare. Maybe it was because he was doing a smaller job for us, but the workmanship was awful and the work came out terrible. Sam just made excuses and never corrected the problems. They may be cheaper than most others out there, but definitely not worth it. read more

I would like to start by saying that Sam and his crew did a fantastic job excavating and replacing the floor of our garage. They also replaced some squares of the sidewalk going up to our house. They showed up on time, did their work efficiently, and cleaned the area throughly before they left. Sam was a joy to work with and was in excellent communication about each step of the project. Sam is very friendly, has been doing this work for almost 40 years, and is very trustworthy. Sam did such a good job that I just hired him to do my driveway. We needed a concrete pad for a gazebo, a sidewalk up to the gazebo, and a separate concrete pad for a shed. Sam came a gave an estimate when he said he would. It was very fair and we locked in for the following Saturday. He came on time and with a crew to get everything prepped and ready to pour that same day. Concrete came and they did a great job making everything look the way he said it would. They cleaned everything up and were extremely efficient. S&A did a project down the street from me. After seeing the quality of the work compared to other sidewalk jobs in my neighborhood, I asked the homeowner for the company information and was directed to Sam. He came the same day I called to provide an estimate for the job. It was my entire sidewalk from front to back, re-leveling the walkway, and replacing the apron for my garage which was crumbling. The estimate was very fair for the amount of work involved. They came a few weeks later (he is busy!) and worked from mid-afternoon through the next day doing the demolition, then returned the following Monday to pour the concrete. The finished result looks great -- I already have compliments on it from neighbors and now another neighbor down the block is getting his sidewalk and cement porch/patio redone. I thought the crew worked very hard -- they were tireless despite the 90 degree weather -- this is not an easy job. Sam was on site throughout the project and they cleaned up nicely afterwards. I made this yelp account for the sole purpose of writing this review. Do notttttt hire this guy, tells you everything you want to hear, collects your money then dips for a month before doing anything he promised. We hired him to redo our driveway cement, and he broke it up reaL quick then did not return to put the cement back. we have been calling him and calling but he just keeps saying " we'LL do it tmrw, tmrw" then hangs up. after an entire month of calling went by he returned with just enough cement to fill half our broken driveway up then Leaves saying he'LL return with the rest of the cement. another two weeks pass by (6 weeks now since he's started on the driveway) and still no word from him. id give him a negative one star if i could. shaddy dude. always yelling at his workers too the one time they weeere here. i never had a yelp account but got one just to write this review. update. 12/19/16 - since my originaL post, there has been no progress in completing our driveway. These people took our money and fled. worst timing ever since the snow is here now and we have no driveway to park our cars in, forcing us to buy $200 worth wood from Menards to place onto of the unfinished driveway so we can use part of it. read more

Let me start off by saying, this company deserves ZERO STARS S&A came to us as a word of mouth recommendation from a friend. My first meeting with the Owner went smoothly, he answered all of our questions and was very thorough in measurements and notations. We were confident in him and his company and we trusted the person that referred us to him so naturally, we hired S&A to do the work. The job was simple, remove the pavers that made up the sidewalk in the backyard and replace with a cement sidewalk. Scheduling was a bit confusing, he said he books when he has enough houses in the same area so he doesn't have to be too far from job sites. This didn't make too much sense to us, but we were fine with this. However, he gave us less than a days notice as to when he was coming. He said demolition would take 1 day and to lay the concrete would take another day. Him and his men showed up on a Friday to do the demo work and I found them in my backyard, on my property, drinking beer from a cooler they brought with them after the demolition was done. This was NOT okay. I don't care that it was hot, I don't care that it was Friday, I don't care that the demolition was done. If you want to host a happy hour, take it OFF my property! I found bottle caps in my yard during the next few days. This is a complete DISRESPECT of clients property. A few days later they came back to lay the cement. It had been raining for a few days so they had to wait. We came home from work to a VERY messy job. There was cement schmeared on our deck AND fence in multiple places. The black lining used on the side of our deck was not taken away or not trimmed, we had to trim it ourselves because it looked like a huge thick piece of black rubber lining the deck. The end result of the side walk was crooked and not smooth in some places. The clean up of gravel, dirt and grass was not taken care of as the Owner stated in our meeting. They removed pavers which CLEARLY belonged to our neighbor and wasn't part of the demolition or work that needed to be done and threw them out. We had to lay down and replace the pavers for our neighbors OURSELVES and that expense came out of OUR POCKET! This BIGGEST problem we had with S&A Cement is that they BROKE our Air Conditioning Unit. Damages for the repair costs were SIGNIFICANT. After SEVERAL calls to the Owner and VERBAL ABUSE from him, we decided to get our Lawyer involved. This has been an on going battle for 8 months now. S&A Cement has been KICKED OUT of the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU for MULTIPLE claims of Property damage to other clients with NO REIMBURSEMENTS! There are MULTIPLE ongoing LAW SUITS on this company. Do not use this company The owner of S&A gave an initial price on the phone and then dropped the price to meet another bid. We agreed because he had come to us through word of mouth. He told my wife one thing and then when the work was done, told us that it was the original quote and he had never agreed to do it for less. In addition, we asked him to do less of an area than our original estimate, and he agreed to take some money off based on the final area he did. However, he wouldn't write out a price the whole time. in the end, he wanted his original quote. I think he was using this so we'd keep him and then make sure it go to the price he wanted. The whole time he tried to put the blame on us. We would not give him the original price he wanted, but did pay $200 more than the original price we thought it would be for an area that was less than originally quoted. Samuel was referred by a family friend to do an estimate of a concrete patio for my elderly parents in June 2015. Price was fair so he was given the OK to proceed BUT, if any other work needed to be done he had to get an OK from a family member. Price was about $1600 which was fair. Well, unsolicited work was done such as tuck pointing and another company called in to work on my parents' flood control. How it got to this point we don't know but Samuel and the person working on the flood control knew each other. The flood control was recently checked and given a clean bill of health. We come to find that $5100 in checks were written to INDIVIDUALS and not their respective companies. NO receipts were provided for alleged work done. To top it all off, it was my parents' signature on the checks but the amount, date and who the check was to be made out to was filled in by Samuel and his flood control friend. Samuel was told that due to my parents age that any additional work needed to be OK'd by someone in our family. Well, he took it upon himself to proceed with the unsolicited work and collect payments to the tune of $5100. Does this sound like a legit operation? read more

I was there were negative stars on yelp! NEVER EVER AGAIN!!! This man is a liar and took money for work that was never done but convinced us we needed to pay upfront costs for materials. He had written out his own name in the pay to line on the checks as well ask to his girlfriend. We contacted the authorities and he said he would return the money for services that were not done. I heard my spigot turned on when I was at home alone. The spigot was inside my garage and my garage door was open. I went outside to see how my spigot got turned on only to find a man in my garage filling some sort of container with water. I told the man to turn my water off, put down my spigot, and wind my hose back up. He just kept filling his bucket. I had to turn off my water and grab my spigot from this stranger. I cannot believe that this service provider that was supposedly hired by my association HOA to do work 300-500 yards from my home, would have the audacity to just send an employee inside my garage without my consent. I took pictures of them and I would consider this trespassing and theft. I have reported this company to my HOA. I do not know if I have missing items other than the water from my garage yet. I tried calling the owner but this business didn't bother to answer their phone. Oakton St. Skokie, Il. 60076 which is managed by Samuel Barkho (847) 769-5856 to do my front stairs of the house and also the south side walk of my property. This contractor came in and we signed the contract. Sam did not give me a copy of the contract stating that he will type it and provide me with a copy. They did a terrible job for my front stairs and the sidewalk. I gave him $6800.00 for the job. Sam took the money and never came back even though he did not complete his work. I with my wife have tried so many times to call him and every time we connected via phone, he will say that he will come back and finish his work but never shows up. Lately I have been calling him and leaving messages on his phone but he never replies back. This man turned to be a liar and a fraud.
