I grew up in NYC, always had S&S, nothing else even comes close. There are more famous "New York cheesecake" companies with national exposure but S&S is the real deal. We always had fresh but now we ship it to our new location in Florida. S&S is our only choice for sending a friend a Christmas package or to celebrate a very special occasion. They are shipped frozen overnight. Their location is non-descript, it even looks abandoned, you can buy it next door in a small grocery store. When I first walked in the place looked like a warehouse but the owner was extremely nice and was able to help me right away. You should definitely bring cash for purchases below $65 dollars. I ended up getting a small cheesecake for $14 which is twice the cost at Juniors or Make My Cake. This cheesecake is the lightest cheesecake I have ever had. Most of the time when I eat cheesecake,I ended going into a sugar coma ..you know where you end falling asleep but this one is very light since its made with kosher products. I love cheesecake. This place got high reviews so I went to go check it out. Lucky for me only 10 mins from home. The place is rarley open so you have to get your cheesecake from next door at bodega. Little choice when you do that. I did catch the place open once. The place is a dump with one little fridge and a few available cakes. The guy who was there was on his cell phone and served me without ever finishing his call. Not very good service but the cake was good just not the best that I've ever had. LIterally the best cheescake I have ever had. My mom and I used to buy cakes from there when I was kid because it was right in front of the bus stop we waited at. It's a hole in the wall but once you step inside there's literally stacks and stacks of cheesecakes. It's like stepping into desert heaven. Everytime we go in the person who's working is so sweet and helpful. The prices aren't bad at all either. Hell, I tink I'd buy a medium cheescake from them for like 70 bucks: it's that good. I've been eating cheesecake in and around NYC for longer than I care to remember and this place is undoubtedly THE BESTt. How long is "longer than I care to remember?" OK--in the 1960's used to eat regularly at the famous and long gone Max's Kansas City on Park Av South in Manhattan--(dinner for two I think was around $10 if you didn't have drinks!), the cheesecake was so good that one night I asked where it came from.....S&S was the answer. A year or so later I had a fabulous cheesecake a coffee shop in upper Westchester, asked where it came from.....S&S. Shortly thereafter I learned they had a retail outlet in the Bronx, and I was hooked and still make the pilgrimage to the funky and functional store there once a year or so. Worst customer service I've ever dealt with! They shipped the cheesecake I ordered for my sister-in-law's birthday to an address that didn't even exist! After the cake didn't deliver (on time), I e-mailed them to find out what happened. I get this e-mail stating they made a mistake on the address that I gave them and that I had two choices, 1) Get a refund or 2) Have a new cake delivered well over a 10 days late from when it was suppose to be delivered. I responded back that after all the hassles they put me through, that I wanted a refund and a new cheesecake. They agreed, I got my refund but then NEVER received the new cake. I contacted them, but never heard back. I finally gave up. What a huge disappointment and a waste of my time. More importantly, my sister-in-law never got her gift. As a "walk in" to buy a cheesecake, the guy sized me up and figured me for a sucker. He sold me an "irregular" (burned on top, funny tasting & frozen) cake when it thawed out it actually sank at the center. I brought it back the next day to ask for an exchange (they "exchanged" it for me alright) This time it was a girl there and she came back with a great story about how their supplier was playing games with their bulk order of cheese (I fell for it) and then she gave me "another" cake. This time it appeared to be alright (the box was for a chocolate cheesecake) But a plain one was in there (but I did want plain) got home and the cake was NOT FRESH but very dry and old. What did Scotty say?; "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" Just beware because if you're the type who gets played for a sucker (like me) they will try to pass off their mistakes and old cakes on you. I was so lucky to grow up in this neighborhood! When I went to work in my 20's I convinced my boss to let me ship this cheesecake to our customers all over the country as an incentive. S&S is a Bronx classic which is in my opinion the top 3 cheesecake in NY. There cheese cake is freshly made and always very very soft . There crust is fantastic and differs from Juniors but in a good way . I've tried classic pineapple and strawberry and all were amazing . The cake itself is creamy and rich in flavor where it's almost impossible to just have a slice . The prices are also much cheaper then other places like juniors and the Cheesecake Factory . read more
