Food was great.... Service was not. We booked an 8:00pm reservation and arrived on time, yet were not seated until 8:25pm. From the time we were seated, we did not receive our food until an hour later. Only 5/6 received their food, and when it was noted that there was a missing plate, we were asked to share the plate since another person had ordered the same item. After dropping off the food, we had to remind them that we were still missing a plate. The missing plate did not come out for another 15 minutes. The tables surrounding us were checked on repeatedly and were given updates about delayed food and we were not. We are also all women of color. I had a friend visiting from out of the country who was excited for this experience, and they were left extremely unsatisfied with the service. I have been to this restaurant with large groups of people and have never experienced this before. read more

We went here for my sister's birthday on a Saturday evening with reservations. We were seated on the patio and our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable. I ordered the Caesar salad and it was yummy, but too much cheese inside. My parents both ordered the salmon, which my mom said was mushy and the tomatoes were an interesting choice for the plate with the asparagus. One of my sisters orders the soup as an app and the meatballs as her entree. They brought the meatballs first by accident and it took a very long time for the soup to come, and the rest of us had our food. When she finished the soup, the meatballs were brought, but they were not hot. As it got darker, we asked for our table candles to bit lit, since all the other table ones were and we had to ask three times. What a hidden gem! Decided to stop in on a whim on a Saturday for lunch. Didn't have a reservation but was gladly seated in one of the dining areas towards the back. The atmosphere was classy yet cozy and had such a warm inviting feeling. The staff were great...from the manager/hostess to the bus boys and waiters everyone was so friendly and very efficient. You can reply that they all take pride in their customer service! Onto the food/cocktails : we started with their fresh bread appetizer and meatballs and then we shared the sliders. Wow just wow! Food is consistently amazing. I don't know why Michelin hasn't discovered this place. Good for me, as reservation is relatively easy to make at this stage. I've tried many Italian restaurants, from Capo and Georgio Baldi in LA to Babbo, Marea in NYC, and this place stands on par and even above when it comes to the parpadelle mushroom pasta. Definitely on the more expensive end of food you can get in the Santa Ynez valley. However this farm to table experience boasts one of the most eclectic menus I have seen on the central coast. Every time I come here the menu looks drastically different, and the Italian pasta dishes here really have an surreal level of authenticity. I'm also quite fond of the dessert menu here. The panna cotta here was delightful with fresh locally sourced berries from the nearby region of happy canyon. The decor of the restaurant is also incredibly warm and inviting. Octopus was super tender, and I loved the variety of veggies with the octopus. Mushroom pasta was SO GOOD. Truffle pizza was probably the most expensive pizza I've ever had ($45), but if you're a fan of truffle, well worth it. Service was friendly, but very rushed. It seemed like our waiter was in a hurry all the time with us, but he would spend a long time chatting at other tables. Maybe they were regulars? He also split our dish when we didn't ask for the dish to be split (and charge us a split fee). I just thought that was kind of odd. I would definitely come back for the food. The restaurant was pretty full on a Monday night, so I'd recommend reservations. If you're staying at Santa Ynez Inn, it is a block away, so nice little walk from the hotel. Enjoy! read more

Great date dinner find! We had 545Pm reservations. Everything we had was 5 stars! We were kind of full from lunch still so we split an early dinner meal. For the appetizer we got the artichoke plate with garlic aioli sauce, super yummy and light . We split the rib eye steak with golden potatoes topped with tasty mushrooms. Super amazing and favorable. We ended the night with chocolate and vanilla gelato with crumbled brown sugar graham cracker sprinkles paired with caramelized banana slices and berries. It was so yummy and just right. We haven't had gelato in a very long time and just to let you know when ordering one scoop of chocolate gelato or other flavor you get two scoops of the same flavor which I didn't know (glad I asked ) That is why we got one of each and it was the perfect duo. Keep in mind it's not on the menu (where you can choose one scoop of each) you have to ask. Lastly, our server Rachel had a top notch personality and she was so helpful and kind. Another one of those hidden gems in the wine country. And also, thanks to Yelp for all the great reviews and pictures that caught our eyes. We came for a couple of wine tasting to celebrate a graduation and of course dinner was on the menu. Our reservation was pretty much after the wineries which was perfect. Heckling in was easy breezy. The restaurant was well maintain and beautifully laid out. Believe it was a house converted to a restaurant. We were seated in the covered patio area. Strung lights were above for the al fresco dining experience. Our waitress, Ashlyn was great. Honestly, we were so hungry that we didn't even mange to look at the specials. She went through everything and of course everything sounded amazing. Drinks menu was great as well. The cocktails also did the spot which was great. I absolutely loved this place! Our waiter, Victoria, was so kind and willing to give us suggestions on places to enjoy a sunset that evening. We came her after receiving suggestions from two people at a nearby vineyard. We snagged an early reservation before 5, just hours before. Everything was amazing. The Pasta, the chicken, the branzino were all done well in their own way. We actually had the chicken for leftovers the next day and it was even better . On drinks: the #1110 and the smoked old fashion were so great--so whether you like darker or lighter alcohol, they've got you covered. I recently came to S Y kitchen with a bigger party and was impressed with everything! We had a pre-fixed menu (I think due to the size of our party) and every single thing was incredible. We even were able to get special accommodations for a few people in our party who kept Kosher and needed kosher meat. The food was perfect! I thought the pizza I ordered was just ok. I also got a chance to sample my friends pasta dish & my other friends steak~ both were delicious. The place is low lit with indoor and outdoor seating. It'll cost you a few bucks to come here but I can see why this is such a popular place. We waited for quite sometime to get our food but ultimately it was worth the wait. I read a few of the reviews on here saying it's underwhelming and after I went for dinner, I can say I totally agree with them. The service was very good but we were there about 15 mins right when they opened for dinner. The ambiance is like any other fancyish restaurant with dimmed light and candles on each table. There's an outdoor patio and I brought my dog with me. Unfortunately, when I walked to the entrance, there was a sign saying service dogs only. The hostess greeted us and immediately said we have a no pet policy even though my dog was already in my Tesla. Thank god for teslas right? The food is below mediocre. We ordered the wagyu meatballs and it tastes like the supermarket frozen isle packaged meatballs. My bf ordered the shrimp pasta entree and it was very bland. The sauce used is olive oil. I ordered the Gigli al ropeton entree which has sausage and recommended by our waiter. It was too salty and the pasta was still a bit hard. Needless to say, I didn't like any of it. read more

Extremely disappointed in their customer service. I made a reservation with a note indicating it was my parents 50th wedding anniversary celebration and also called 20 minutes prior to the reservation to give my card information to put the meal on so my parents did not have to receive and check. I also asked to serve a dessert. Came to find out my parents still received the check a no dessert. When I called the front all the woman had to say "must have been a miscommunication" despite the multiple communications to make their meal a celebration. We came in from out of town to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and it was disappointing to say the least that they received a check and had to pay. read more
