Our second visit to Sabatino's North was excellent. So darned good, in fact, I'd almost give it a 5 star but am holding back upon more amazing visits in the future. The potential is definitely there; it seems as though our previous visit was a fluke. Sabatino's North accepts reservations for parties of 6 or more but on the Thursday night it didn't look like we'd need them once we arrived. The restaurant was quiet, the wait staff were calm. Our party of seven were seated immediately. Our table ordered the fried calamari (with almost a tempura batter, light, not greasy and the most amazing calamari I think I've ever had,) the anti-pasto salad (nothing super awesome here, just your standard) and again we ordered the Sabatino's Platter. The arrival of the platter was the first real indicator that our previous experience was about to be outdone. The platter had a much nicer presentation (the previous trip all the items looked sort of thrown on the plate) and the tastes? Absolutely amazing, such a significant upgrade and we were pretty happy with it last time so we were completely surprised. The entrees the group ordered this time were the Veal MIlanese, the Veal Marsala and the Veal Parmigiana. A lot of baby calf bit the bullet for that night of decadence and boy was it yummy. The waiter kept the wine suggestions coming and by the end of the meal we were so stuffed we didn't have room for dessert. Have to remember that for next time. I'll keep reviewing Sabatino's with each visit; I hated leaving a 3 starrer last time but I'd have been remiss to paint a higher expectation of a place than I'd personally experienced. read more

I really like downtown Derry, very charming. This place was recommended by someone from the area, so we gave it a try. Since it's in downtown it's in an older building on the main street. Very nice inside. I was with a group of around 10 people, there for a business dinner. The service was great! Although they were out of bleu cheese stuffed olives for my martini, I ordered it anyway just a little dirty. It was perfect. We ordered the bruschetta & calamari - the calamari was pretty good but the bruschetta was way too garlicky. The fresh mozz was good though so I can forgive the garlic. For my entree, I ordered one of the 3 course specials. It's really a great deal - pick a salad or soup, then an entree, then you get dessert & coffee....all for about $15! There's a good selection of entrees to pick from but just fyi - you don't get to pick the dessert. I got the caesar salad & chicken marsala. The caesar salad was pretty solid. The chicken marsala was ok but I was sad there was a pork product running all through it. We'd waited a good while & didn't want to make a scene, so I raked through all the pork to get to the pasta & chicken. Not much chicken to be spoken of. The marsala sauce wasn't the greatest (tasted like it wasn't freshly made) but I love mushrooms, and there were big chunks running all through it. Save! I had a cup of decaf, and then the dessert was a sort of raspberry sponge cake. It was pretty good but nothing spectacular. Not sure what has happened here, but the last 2 times we've eaten here, the service was severely lacking. We have gotten the impression that we were an inconvenience to the servers, with their lack of checking on us until after we had finished eating, with no offer of refills on drinks. Also, I was a little surprised to be told both times that they do not have iced tea. Seriously, How can a restaurant not have that as a drink? If this is the new norm for them, we're going to spend our money elsewhere, at places that appreciate EVERY table, not just ones that had a reservation, they're not that classy of a place. read more

Awesome meal before a show at Tupelo. My friend has veal cacciatore and I had a veal special with tortellini, mushroom sundrieds in a delicious sauce. I must say, having been to most of (not all) the restaurants in Derry, Sabatino's keeps me coming back. The owner is a fantastic guy, always comes around and says hi. And the atmosphere and music are very inviting. Now on to the food and drinks, I would say, these are THE BEST DRINKS in Derry. Highly recommended are the Asian Pear Martini, the Sabatino Sunset, and the Biscotti Martini. But you seriously can't go wrong with any of them. The bartenders are wonderful and attentive. The food is also really delicious. The chicken Sabatino is one dish I never get sick of. Friends of mine from out of town have all agreed that as far as Italian goes, Sabatino's is right up there. We got to eat here outside on May 21 for our anniversary. It was the first place I chose to eat once restaurants opened. Joe is great and the staff is amazing. Came here tonight on a tuesday night after they moved down the road. We walk in and it looks nice and all, but the hostess has her back to the door talking with another coworker. Then she turns around when the phone rings and give us a finger like saying 1 minute. She said it would be a fifteen minute wait if not quicker. A half hour later, and asking multiple times why people who came in after us. Server came over about fifteen minutes after being sat, took our orders and that is the last time we saw her. The bus boy brought us our drinks, and some store bought bread that was not even warmed. He later brought our food after trying to figure out if it was ours and what he was giving to us. He later came by to bus the table. Sitting there about 20 minutes with nothing on our table our server comes and gives us our check. The food also sucked. The pasta was way over cooked. It was clumped and hard. We will not be returning to this place. We love this place . It's a hidden gem in downtown Derry. It's like going to the North End only your in Derry, NH . No parking problems . No tourist . Atmosphere is very inviting & warm. Best Italian restaurant I have been around the NH area. The pasta fagioli is my absolute favorite here, taste just like a home-soup. The staff was very attentive and knew we had to be somewhere at a certain time and got us out at exact time. I know that can be a huge pain seeing I am a server myself, but I appreciated it. My boyfriend got the Salmon over linguini with a white wine and garlic sauce. Salmon was cooked to perfection and perfectly flavorful. Sauce was not overdone nor swimming in oil which we appreciate. Meh. Sabatino's used to be good. Something happened and it's not good anymore. Chicken parm was flavorless and the garlic oil on the pasta had oregano and cream (maybe?) in it. What?!? We randomly chose this spot with a group of five women to celebrate one of them being a new home owner. Our bus girl was friendly and prompt with refilling our drinks and replenishing bread and oil. Our waiter, Joe, was great. We shared apps, each got an entree, drinks all around, shared a dessert at the end and our bill was only $183. The food was SO good. Decided to try this place with some friends, I always drive by and it's never empty so I figure they are doing things right ha. So we walked in and got ourselves seated on the patio. The staff here is very kind and inviting and you get the sense it is family run. I had the arancini, baked meatballs, and chicken Marsala. Everything was solid or above average. The drinks were lackluster though. I ordered a drink with crown royal and it appeared to be some other sort of liquor. Sabatinos is by far the best Italian food restaurant in southern NH (for the food). The service however was lacking on Valentine's Day. We made a reservation a week in advance but still had to wait 40 minutes past our reservation time after we got there. There is limited seating while waiting so we stood shoulder-to-shoulder among other people for about 40+ minutes. They should probably do-away with reservations if they cannot accommodate. Waitress was meh. Disappeared after getting water and didn't return for a while to get drink orders. Brought over oil but no bread, waited 15 minutes for her to come back before we could ask for bread for the oil. Waitress forgot the birthday girls meal and everyone ate while hers was being ordered. Then delivered preordered lava cake desserts before clearing a few of our parties entrees, also didn't give plates so we could share desserts. Gave me bill before dessert was served and then never came back to fill waters or offer any coffee after the desserts were delivered. Food was very good and wrll priced, however service left alot to be desired. I expect a nice Italian restaurant to have good service. I stopped here on my way home from a holiday weekend to get supper. The service was unapologetically slow, leaving us waiting for over a half an hour between our salad and entree with no explanation. My garden salad was iceburg lettuce, uninspired wilted vegetables, doused in truly bad house dressing. My boyfriend's minestrone soup was almost too salty to eat, and the eggplant in my eggplant parm was sliced ridiculously thin and half-assedly fried in far too much grease, served over overcooked salty pasta. I've made (2) visits to Sabatino's in Derry, NH. It's real small inside and there's a long bar, packed with people drinking, acting obnoxious, talking loudly and slobbering all over themselves. If your plan is to have a romantic dinner with your date (or spouse) forget it, you won't be able to hear yourself talk. After 5:00 PM on a Saturday or Friday, it's an echo chamber inside. You're better off skipping it..... unless you want to be entertained by the drunkies, then go. The first visit to Sabatino's, we didn't have a reservation and it was 5PM on a Saturday. All the hostess kept worrying about was if she gave us a table, would it be free for her party of (12) at 6:00 P.M. The tables are modular. If one is taken up by a couple, the party of (12) coming in suffers because they need that table to put (4) together. If you're only a party of (2 or 3), forget it, you're screwed, you don't matter. Only the large parties with bigger pockets $ are important. Sabatinos, we are a family of 3, we are paying customers too. Don't slight us because your party of (12) may have to wait a few extra minutes for a table. If you can't accommodate the party, then cancel them! STOP OVERBOOKING! GET A FUNCTION ROOM, PLEASE! Second visit was at 4:00 PM on 3/19. The hostess was upset that so many walked in with no reservations and "one of the workers screwed up" and booked two parties of 12 (oops, $$$ what a mistake!) Just squeeze 'em all in there, get that money rolling. Sabatino's cares less where the patrons wait in the winter for a table. The only thing that matters is the (two parties of 12) $$$! So where do they end up waiting? Right behind you! While you are eating you have someone on their phone, talking loud, sticking their butt in the back of your chair, totally oblivious! People are waiting in the common hall and holding the door open, letting in the cold and freezing out the eating patrons so the tables will turn over quicker. Of course, we mustn't forget the loud obnoxious drunks at the bar, everyone packed in and nobody can hear themselves talk. STOP OVERBOOKING! FOOD: Red sauce is salty, otherwise the food is pretty good. Lasagna could have been heated more, it wasn't quite hot. Spouse liked the veal parm, delicious! We asked for extra sauce, didn't get it on the plate, yet got charged $2.00 more! Next time, we'll insist that it arrive separately in a bowl. Again, it was extremely loud, people inside waiting for a table taking up nearly every space in the common area. STOP OVERBOOKING, GET A FUNCTION ROOM FOR LARGE PARTIES! read more

In reality I would give them about 4 to 4 1/2 stars, but for Derry, they are definitely 5 stars! I read many of the poor reviews and am really surprised by them! My experience here has always been great! I'm not a big foodie by any means, but I really do like to eat. Every time I have ordered something here it has been great! When I wanted something different than what was on the menu the waitress would make a suggestion and basically create something based on what I told her I wanted. Eating outside in the summer is very nice too! I have been here probably 10 times or more over the last 3 years and I have never had a bad experience or food that I didn't like. I will admit that if I were comparing this restaurants to some of the very high end places that I have been to, I might not give them 5 stars, but again, for Derry, it's the best there is ... and it's pretty good! read more
