We had the 5-course prix fixe. Overall it was a good time. The staff and setting were nice. All the normal hospitality stuff was fine, although one time they took our forks and didn't bring back new ones. The drinks are also good and strong, but no better than an upscale chain. The pricing in general was also very good, but that is to be expected in Pleasanton. They started with a foamy chilled soup in a shot glass. It was truly revolting, but luckily we had sparkling water. Maybe try some bread next time. It was free though, so no complaints. Next I had the Caldo Verde (aka soup). Very good, but not mind-shattering. It sort of reminded me of a creamy Miso soup with pork instead of tofu. Some of the best soup I have ever had. As Appatizer I had the mushroom tart. It was delicate, flaky, and flavorful, Still warm too. I think there was a little too much filling, but I was happy to have it. I had the oxtail pasta. It was great. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the oxtail was allowed to show its flavor. For entree, I had the cod. This was the best dish of the meal. It was perfectly cooked and velvet soft. Apparently, it was served with turnips, but they were pretty plain. The bowl for the ponzu was way too small so it was hard to dip the fish in, especially because it was so flaky I didn't want to lose any. If I was supposed to be pouring it, they should've poured it for me. I also had to squeeze a charred tangerine myself as well. There is obviously a way the chef wants it to be eaten, so please serve it to me that way. Overall, the best non-sushi fish I have ever had, all 3 square inches of it. For dessert, I had the donuts. The donuts were very tough and dense. Maybe they should contract out to Donut Wheel. They were like a mochi donut that had been squished. The coffee anglicise was excellent, however. Overall I was disappointed. As you may know, this is a Michelin "0-star" restaurant. I expected something special in every course, but it was mostly just good. Apart from the cod, nothing really left me thinking about it days later, and the fish itself was certainly doing some of the work. When they tried to be creative, like with the foam, it was a flop. It is really more of a three-and-a-half star place, but the food really was very good, just not as good as it should be. It is higher than a three. Maybe I am just disappointed the Tri-Valley cannot roll with the big boys in SF and Oakland. I have high hopes for the summer menu. read more

My husband and I went to Sabio last Saturday night to take advantage of their newly opened indoor dining! They were offering a 3 or 5 course menu indoors so we opted for the 5 course with a few extras. Everything was phenomenal, as usual! Sabio is always amazing. We were seated on the small patio and it wasn't very busy from the time we were there 10:30a to ~12pm (probably could've gotten away without reservations!). Parking can be tricky on the weekends as many of the streets around Main are closed right now. Almost four years later and a five star rating. I was coming in hot off food from the Alameda Country Fair so this was a definite change of pace. T. Wegner, Esq. was also part of the dining party and the utmost discern was placed upon the food analysis below due to his most discriminating palate. Setting - perfect...both indoor and outdoor seating. We did both on a rotation with no beef from the wait staff or management. Truth - we moved inside due to the sun setting so it was not just a rotation for the sake of it. * Cauliflower - spicy and healthy. Better than my sister-in-laws cauliflower casserole which is not a good comparison as that thing is a high risk dish IMHO. * Hummus with veggies. Healthy and flavorful. * Flank Steak - very good but what is not to like about Flank steak? * Strawberry salad substitute Frisee for way better lettuce. I got mixed blend but would opt for butter lettuce if possible. No Frisee or Arugula please. Dressing was EPIC. Little seeds and some other stuff made it a very good salad, approaching a 10 out of 10 rating. * Awesome - the Jagerwurst. Thought I was in Berlin for a moment. Mr. Wegner's favorite dish of the day. See photo for details. What needs help but did not warrant a single star thrashing: * The Sangria - really nice flavor but has the fizz which I don't like (I do like the boots with the fur) so please offer a no fizz option. For as much as I don't like the fizz in a sangria, this one was still good which is surprising. If you like fizz, get a pitcher. * The ketchup. They have house made smokey style like Beer Baron. Difference is Beer Baron (down the street) will give you regular old school ketchup upon request. The flat iron steak was delicious and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The pork loin was amazingly flavorful and tender... maybe even a tiny bit better than the steak. We enjoyed the deviled eggs. We enjoyed the old fashioned cocktails. The cauliflower and the potato chips were just okay for me. The bread is a very small portion (for one) and they charge for it. A combination of me making poor selections for my tastes and some mediocre dishes made for an average dining experience at Sabio. I came Monday evening for a dinner with some friends I haven't seen in a while. We had the 5-course dinner. The first thing I would like to mention is that the courses are HUGE. Usually, for 5-course meals, I expect the courses to be more lightly portioned. You definitely get bang for your buck if you bring your appetite. The star for me was the starter, Butternut Rugusa soup. It came with two savory hush puppies that were fried to perfection and packed with flavor. The soup was rich and creamy. For my appetizer, I got the Sherry braised squid and shrimp, which was too earthy for me and lacked any brightness. The garbanzo beans stewed in gave the dish a somewhat canned flavor, with no freshness. (This might've been my personal preference, if I had to choose again I would go for either the Pork belly or Potato-leek parfait.) For pasta, I had the Bucatini. My noodles were a bit overcooked and the sauce tasted salty. My friend selected the Raviolo, which was far superior and had a lovely truffle note in the ricotta. For my main, I chose the beef tenderloin. It was cooked to medium, and a bit tough to chew. (We weren't asked how we wanted it cooked.) The large dollop of cold creme fraiche also felt excessive and fatty. Again, I think my previous menu choices may have made this feel exceptionally heavy on the palate. I had a bite of my friend's sturgeon, and it was juicy and soft with a nice balance of citrus. For dessert, I had the brownie trifle. The pumpkin mousse was light and creamy, and went well with the brownie. No complaints! I also had a bite of my friend's pear donuts, and they felt a little stale and greasy to me - like the fryer had been used to cook other things in the same oil. Service was great! Our server (brown hair with a maroon mask) was very attentive. When we mentioned the beef being tough, she immediately offered to make it right by bringing a new dish. We decided not to go through the trouble but she was greatly appreciated. My friend picked up the bill, so I can't say if it was worth the price. Because there were dishes in here that I loved, and the overall flavor of the food was good, I will be open to returning. But I think I might skip the multi-course meal and try the tapas next time, so I have a higher chance of choosing dishes that suit my personal palate. read more

Took my girlfriend here for her birthday! Sabio on Main is very underrated. Their menu changes seasonally and gets updated almost everyday! So you know everything is absolutely fresh. We chose to dine tapas style and share a bunch of dishes. My favorite dish of the night was the sweet potato gnocchi (shout out to our server for the recommendation!). If you see this on the fall menu, I highly recommend getting it! And please make sure to end your meal with some housemade donuts. Service overall was great. Our reservation was running late because of the limited tables due to SIP regulations which is understandable. However, the cherry on top was our bartender offering us some wine for our wait! We have wanted to try Sabio's for some time! So I "Winos and Foodies" dinner group finally decided to go!!!!! We were not disappointed at all, clearly impressed with the service, MARK WAS AMAZING, knowledgeable, patient, his infectious laughter and warm personality added to the evening's experience. We ordered the deviled eggs to share, they were so fantastic, my husband and I ordered seconds! Several of our group ordered the sun choke soup! The presentation and flavor were delectable, could have been hotter! Our table tried three different entrees, the pork chop with grits, juicy, tender, and great flavor! Two of our friends order the butternut ravioli, heavenly, rich and perfectly seasoned. My husband ordered the chicken, when it arrived it looked a little dry! I was SO WRONG! For this place to be the most expensive restaurant in downtown Pleasanton it is awful and would not recommend ever spending your money here. Here's why: My fiancé and I started with a Shrimp cocktail im impressed on how you can actually manage to mess up a shrimp cocktail... but oh boy they did! The cocktail sauce was just simply gross.. can't even explain why it just felt like they grounded up everything and anything into a paste chilled and served it... 45minutes after our appetizer on a slow Tuesday night... we finally got our entrees my go to is a medium rib eye and i got a well done tasteless fatty slab of meat and the lady got a salmon that apparently was their take on sushi on how raw and cold it was. My husband and I wanted to try something different but have a course sit down for our 15 year anniversary. When searching Sabio popped up, so I scheduled reservations. I followed up with an email just to let them know what we were celebrating. To my surprise I was emailed back right away, and was given a few options on extras to celebrate. Today 7/29 was our reservations, and we were not disappointed. The good was exceptional in the 5 course. My husband whom does not care for duck loved it. I cannot even decide what was the best as all of it was scrumptious. We love the decor and the setting of the dinning room. From the hostess, to our server Ruben, and the support staff we had the best service we have ever had. We came here yesterday to celebrate my son's 15th birthday and we enjoyed every single meal they served us. You can have the option to do ala carte or course meals and We decided to go for 3-course meal. The food was perfect. Staff are very accommodating, checking in from time to time making sure our dining experience is memorable. They also have kids menu for 12 years and under. Decor and ambiance is a very positive vibe. Yes, this restaurant is highly recommended. They also have brunch menu but I believe only on weekends. Make reservations before you go. I was here for a company dinner and there were ten of us. We had several different dishes and everyone seemed quite happy. I had skirt steak with creamed spinach, and it was so tender and portions were generous. I think the hit of the party were their lemon donuts for desert. I thought about them for days afterwards, and am eager to return to try other dishes. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with warm, woody colors. Very relaxing. We went here on NYE for their five course prix-fixed dinner and had one of the worst service experiences I've ever had. To be fair, the food was good and well portioned so we didn't feel terribly full. However, the service (or the lack thereof) makes me question how this restaurant is run. We had a reservation, and when we were seated by the host/manager, she said that they were able to move some tables and accommodate everyone inside (it was raining that night). Once we sat down, she came by a few times within 10 minutes asking for our order. When we asked for more time to review the menu, she said that we needed to leave in the next 1.5 hours because there's another party after us - this was not mentioned when we were seated. So we put in our 5 course menu and drink orders, and the food came out pretty slow (we didn't mind and did not comment on it). Right before our entree, she came out to ask us to move outside or to the bar. I told her we'd rather finish our meals here, and she rolled her eyes and said that's not possible and walked away. But then the food continued to come out, so we finished our meal. Our drinks never came, but she came around with the bill. When I pointed out that we never received our cocktails, she told me I was wrong. After some back and forth, she agreed to take off the drinks. This is disappointing as we've sat at the bar before and have had a wonderful experience - we thought that the same would apply to the dining room. It was an automatic 20% gratuity, so I assume that's why she felt entitled to treat clients that way. To anyone who wants to try out this place - try sitting at the bar because the bartenders are wonderful. stay far away from the dining room unless you want to feel like you are an inconvenience UPDATE; for the record, Eleana did not tell us about the 7pm limit until we were ordering. If timing was important to them, they should have timed our courses to reflect this timing - we as guests did not control how quickly each course came out or why we did not get our entree before 7pm when we placed our order at 5:20PM. I would give zero stars if was an available option. We had reservations for 4 for dinner on Saturday night. Just be sure that it was ok I called Sabio's and asked if it was OK to bring my own bottle of wine. I was told yes and that there was a $25 corkage charge. That seemed reasonable to me for the corkage charge. When we arrived at the restaurant at 5:02 for a 5:00 reservation the 1st thing that we were told was that we were late. When we looked around the restaurant there was only one other table that was occupied. When the bottle of wine was set on the table the waiter told us that because they sold the same wine that they could not open it with a corkage charge but I would have to pay there overstated price. I said to him that I was not ok with that and he came back with if we bought a bottle of their wine that they would open my wine for the $25 charge. I said that we only wanted one bottle of wine with dinner so could they just double or triple the corkage fee. He said no that it was against their policy. We picked up our stuff and went to another restaurant down the street and had a wonderful dinner including my wine. Booked a private dining room for the Mister's 40th for a party of 14, which automatically becomes a pre-fixe menu, which was totally fine. I opted for the 5 course meal. The entire booking was made so easy thanks to Eleana! As others mentioned, street parking only, which was hard to find on a Friday evening. So do come earlier, since the sidewalk on Main St closes for some reason or another on the 1st(?) Friday. The staff was wonderful and accommodated all of our request. We sat in the patio and this was during November, so it was a bit chilly, but there were overhead heaters. So it got either too nippy when the heater was off or too hot when it was on, but the staff helped us with alternating the heater being on/off. I really enjoyed all of the food! I was a bit worried that the portions would be too small, since I had 13 guests, but it was more than enough. I got full after the 3rd course! Ambiance- interior design is nice, with a beautiful backlit wine collection and open air feeling. Food- disappointing. The toasted tortilla for the chicken tasted stale, the salmon felt unbalanced with the heaped spoon of olive paste, and the steak was salty under a heap of melted, somewhat re-congealed butter. All the food tasted a bit cold. Dessert was redeeming, but again, the ice cream was half-melted by the time it was served. Service- off-putting. The waiter said that it was in our best interest to order as quickly as possible because they would be "slammed" with more incoming customers. We obliged, but waited a long time for the main entree while the restaurant was half full. The kitchen's service counter (in retrospect) had our plates for several minutes, cooling (see above). We asked a different waiter to check on the kitchen, at which point the food on the counter was brought to us. We asked if we could get steak knives because the steak was tough to cut. We were told we were holding steak knives... Overall, this is a nice looking restaurant. Departing from the Michelin Guide's descriptive fanfare, however, the food was disappointing, and the service didn't match. read more

This is our first time here and came for a special night out/date night with my husband. Enjoyed every minute of being there. There's street parking along the business and if you're lucky, you can find parking right by the restaurant, we were one of the lucky ones :) Couldn't really tell where to enter the restaurant because the outside was busy and it's a good thing they had their menu sign outside of the entrance. Our reservation was for 7:30pm and we got there at 7pm and was seated right away. When you walk in you can feel the rustic, relaxed and cozy ambience of the restaurant. It set the mood for our date night! We had the 10 course meal and none of the food and wine pairing wasn't a disappointment! It was delicious and then chasing it down with whatever wine Michelle gave us was perfect, it went down smooth :) We're more of a beer and cocktails kind of couple but we came for the experience. They do have beer and cocktails selections if you wanted to try in which we did. The tapas was on point and very flavorful. We enjoyed every course that came out! Can't pick one because it was all so delicious and fresh...yummy! We did have a hiccup when one of the main courses came out and that's when we experienced the outstanding customer service of going that extra mile. There were no hassles or back talking on that's how the dish is supposed to be, I believe she's the manager who came out and apologized. Our server Michelle, is amazing, she took good care of us, checking on us to see if she can top us off, telling us what we're about to eat and it was a natural flow for her. Been coming here for happy hour and I love the girls here. Our server is the tall beautiful blond named Stephanie, she is so attentive along with the bartender. Super friendly and great service! Only place nearby with 1.00 oysters, they are tiny but very fresh, hh is offered weekdays from 3-6pm. The avocado toast is absolutely delicious with a egg, chorizo sausage and avocado on a mini toast. Couple of these and it is filling. Drinks are at 8.00 but well worth it as it is perfectly blended. Yelpers got this place right! This place is actually 4.5 stars in my opinion. Came here for Happy Hour with a couple of friends. We were seated immediately as we walked in. The place is nicely decorated with modern fixtures. They also had a full bar and great selections of wine. Today we ended up trying their Pomegranate Mintaritas on the happy hour menu. The glass is not that big but delighted that one small glass can give you a buzz. It was delicious and would definitely recommend it if you come here. The wow eye catching is their $1.00 oysters. I can't believe this exist in the tri valley and I'm just now finding out about it. I can see this being a regular place for me to hang out with my husband. First time dining at Sabio - it was a hot Friday night with a group of girlfriends. Most of us it was our first time at Sabio. From the moment we sat down we were not treated respectfully. When ordering our cocktails one member of our group was told "we only serve craft cocktails". She was so embarrassed. Not a good first impression. As we proceeded to order appetizers our server pushed additional items on us stating "I know our portion sizes and you will need at least 2 of those". We didn't. We had leftover appetizers. The burrata and arugula salad was delicious, but that was because of the quality salami, not the cooking. The deviled eggs were just ok. Sadly, I can't even remember which means they didn't stand out. What bothers me the most was that we didn't need 2 orders of 4 appetizers for 7 people. Additionally, our appetizer plates were not bused. I eventually started stacking to make room for dinner items. Again, when we ordered our main dishes our server pushed additional food items on us. Stating "4 entrees for 5 people is not enough". We ended up with 2 boxes of leftovers! It honestly felt as though our server was just trying to pad his tip as a 20% gratuity was pre-added to our bill for a party of 7. I am a big tipper (having been a server myself for many years) and always tip 20% or more, but also don't want to be made to feel as though the server is pushing food on us just to increase his tip. The quality of the food was good, but I was expecting better. The shrimp risotto was runny. The flat iron steak was just ok. The Brentwood corn pasta had very little corn, and could have showcased a local food item with more emphasis. The lamb cavatelli was good. The service was awful. I won't be returning. read more

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. We were visiting this restaurant for the first time. Our friends brought a very expensive bottle of wine. Joseph Phelps Insignia Napa Valley Estate Grown Red Wine 2019. Before we even sat down the server informed us that since they sell that wine they would have to charge us the price of the wine as if we bought it from them. This policy is stated nowhere on their website site. In this case, their corkage fee would have been $590! The server went to the manager and their resolve to this was if we bought their bottle of wine at that price they would waive the corkage of our bottle. We didn't want two bottles of wine. So we left. And we will never be back. UPDATE: the owner responded on Google claiming that we were told we could buy any bottle of wine on their menu to have the corkage waived on the expensive bottle we brought in. That simply was not the case. We were told we would have to buy the same bottle from them and they would waive the corkage on the bottle we brought in. read more

A quality tapas place with an extensive wine menu IN THE BURBS? Um, yes please. Sabio on Main is a great, modern addition to downtown Pleasanton and makes the whole area more appealing to the younger crowd (aka adult millennials that visit their parents in the suburbs). Sabio has an inventive menu and a cocktail/wine list at a reasonable price. Its happy hour prices are also ideal for anyone want to stop in for a quick bite after work or in the downtown area. Quality cocktails for $12 and under? Sign. Me. Up. My friends and I dined here for both brunch and dinner, and dinner has the be the better meal out of the two. The portions are relatively filling and fairly aligned with what you're paying for. The real gem of the dinner/happy hour menu is that black garlic dip. It's magical with just about everything. The brunch menu is fairly derivative and nothing standout. It's comprised of basic flavors with a small twist, and is far too expensive for a suburban restaurant for what it is. The beignets are really the star of the show here. If you want to pop in for a sweet brunch, Sabio is the right spot for you. One note is that the service is horrible - no matter what time of day it is. While the servers are friendly when you interact with them, the time in between each reaction can take at least fifteen minutes. And no water refills? This place surprised me in a good way. For some reason I totally thought that this was going to be one of those pricey "nuevo" latino places that serves up modern/upscale tapas. But nope, it is pretty California, which I'm all for. I was told by my friends who are locals that the menus change often. The brunch menu was basically a one pager, which I'm totally fine with. I like it when kitchens/staff are focused, rather than trying to bite off more than they can chew. Came for a weekend brunch and it fit perfectly with the bright airy space with an artsy ambiance. Just kinda surprised on how "not" busy they were for a Sunday brunch. It was a long weekend though, so maybe that had a lot to do with it. No line, no reservations, no problem. Started with a Pimm's Cup ($14/2*) and didn't really care for this version. The ginger beer was nice and prominent but that's where the good ends. It was too tart, so along with the ginger beer, it really tasted like a Mule drink, which I don't really dig. And because it was so tart, I couldn't really taste the Pimm's, which has a nice herbal flavor. Eventually moved on to their house Screw Driver ($12/5*) and that was much better. They use Tito's and FRESH squeeze OJ. Nuff said. Pork Belly Poblano Hash ($14/3*) This was so close to being a 5 star dish. Pork belly was tender and crisp on the exterior, perfect. Taters nicely fried and chunked. Poblano chiles in huge hunks and perfectly cooked without it being at all mushy. BUT the over medium egg that was supposed to top it, came out over-HARD. So no runny yolk, which would of shot it to the tops for ratings. My friends' food arrived also, so I didn't want to send it back and not have food in front of me. So Damn Close! Spam Loco Moco ($15ish/4*) Only tried a bite of the "spam" because they make their own version here. Same color as the canned version but this was way more dense and "steak-y", which I can appreciate. They were able to replicate the flavor and salt level, which I was surprised on. The dish also got raves on the rice and mushroom gravy combo. And the egg on this dish was properly cooked, go figure. Banana/Nutella Dutch Baby - didn't try this but it looked great. But it was one of the smallest dutch baby's I've ever seen, usually they are huge. A dutch baby is like a soufle'd pancake, so it is light and airy. My friends mowed it down, so I can only assume it was tasty. So brunch impressed me enough that I totally wouldn't mind in checking out their dinner scene. They made a fan out of me for the most part, despite a few mishaps. So looking forward into a probable return. read more

First time after walking by for years, delightful atmosphere, cozy with wood details and the wine library, and very quick, friendly service. Oysters were fresh, sauce was unique and bright, and the happy hour prices are great for the quality. Only downside were underdone fries after I asked to make sure they were crispy(I'm just particular about fries), but the furikake and soy mayo sauce were delicious. They swapped togarashi chips for me instead, which were great and also made in-house. Loved the black garlic dip(similar to a homemade onion dip and nicely thick), loved the sliders which were the perfect cook and juicy with a delicious peppercorn spread and balsamic onions. I look forward to trying more of the menu next time! Dirty cougar cocktail was refreshing and made with fresh grapefruit juice, balanced and refreshing, and the bistro Manhattan checked all the boxes. Great value for HH (weekdays 4-6pm) and great flavors in everything I tried. Highly recommend, and they have a well stocked bar with a good variety of liquors and wine (see photo!) read more
