I spent the better part of my younger days in Pleasanton. Graduated from Amador before hi-tailing it to SF for college. I only really come back to see my parents and old friends, but when I do, dining out is never really in the conversation. I love P-Town for what it is, but a dining destination it is not. Whether its corporate chain restaurants by the mall or run down pasta shacks on Main St, I always try to get my parents to come to Berkeley or SF when we go out to eat. I have to admit, this place left me pleasantly surprised. I had read about Sabio opening last year, and remember that they brought a city Chef to run the kitchen, but that doesn't always translate to the burbs. This certainly wasn't a typical suburban experience. This felt as if we were in the middle of the Mission at a trendy spot (although the clientele had less tattoos). The food was modern , but it all had a familiar feeling to it. The presentation and seasoning were all spot on. The waiter said that the Chef gets his ingredients from farms in the area, which is cool. Definitely not the norm for restaurants in this area. The menu has a section of what they call "global tapas" which are small bites that you order by the each (get the chorizo toast!). Then it has a vegetable section and a small plates section, which essentially seemed like the same thing, but the small plates were more meat focused. Some stand out dishes were the Spanish Octopus (octopus in Pleasanton??), the corn and mushrooms, the caramel pork belly, roasted duck, and the salmon poke. My parents thought the poke was expensive for the portion, but I could taste the quality and freshness of the fish. The server explained to us that they use wild caught California salmon which has a richer flavor, but is also more expensive than Atlantic salmon, so the price makes sense. There were also these little green vegetables that tasted like the ocean in the poke, but I can't remember what they were called. I've never had something like that before. We tried a few of their desserts as well. The ricotta donuts were out of this world! They came with a blackberry sauce that really set them off. We also had a creme brulee type dessert made with corn and bacon. While it wasn't bad, it didn't have the same wow that the donuts had. My dad being the bourbon snob that he is, insisted we finish the meal with some whiskey. They have a large and diverse selection. None of your common whiskeys here. I had a whiskey from Napa that was aged in wine barrels which was very unique. All in all, this was a great experience, on par with many of the restaurants I frequent in Berkeley or SF. I'm shocked that this place wasn't packed with a line around the corner. If it actually was in SF, I'm sure it would have one. It probably doesn't get the same appreciation in the burbs though. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for this sleepy town. If more restaurants of this caliber open up, I'll be much more willing to go out to eat when I come home to visit! read more

I had an amazing dining experience here! The food and service were top-notch, and the menu offered a great variety. We started with the Rose Ranch deviled eggs, octopus & albacore aguachile, and the pancetta & goat fromage blanc toast. For our main, we ordered the eggplant and smoked mozzarella pasta, and we couldn't resist finishing off with the apple cider donuts. Pancetta & Goat Fromage Blanc Toast: This was a standout! The combination of sourdough, jam, and goat cheese was perfectly sweet and indulgent. Rose Ranch Deviled Eggs: A solid dish, though a bit on the heavier side. Octopus & Albacore Aguachile: Unique and refreshing, similar to ceviche with a tangy kick from the radish, avocado, and cucumber. Eggplant & Smoked Mozzarella Ravioli: Creamy and rich, bursting with tomato, garlic, and chili flavors. Apple Cider Donuts: A must-try! The donuts paired with apple compote and vanilla were divine. Drinks were excellent too! We tried the [insert drink name], which complemented our meal perfectly. The menu also features a chef's tasting that looked amazing. While I truly wanted to enjoy my visit to Sabio on Main, my experience was unfortunately overshadowed by their lack of accommodation for my dietary restriction. Upon informing the staff of my needs, I was met with reluctance and an unhelpful attitude, making it clear that adjustments were not a priority. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was the way my request was handled--so noticeably that other diners seemed to pick up on the awkwardness. Rather than discreetly addressing the issue, the restaurant made it feel like an inconvenience, turning what should have been a simple request into an ordeal. I understand that not all restaurants can cater to every dietary restriction, but the manner in which it was handled felt dismissive and lacking in hospitality. Despite the otherwise pleasant atmosphere and potential of the restaurant, this was not an enjoyable experience. I truly hope they improve their approach to customer service and inclusivity, as it could make a significant difference for future diners. read more

We tried Sabio for my husbands birthday and it was truly awful. We both had the five course tasting menu and the items were not accurately described on the menu as to how they were when they came out..one example, a scallop appetizer was actually mashed scallops that were formed into a patty then deep fried and put on a bun. As someone who can't eat deep fried foods(no mention of that on the menu), that was a bit of a problem. I offered the scallop course to my husband but he couldn't eat it..wasn't good and the bread was bordering on stale.They offered no substitution for this course or even slight deduction off the bill. We are low key diners who just want a meal to be tasty and as described. The best thing we had was the little loaf of fresh baked bread with roasted garlic and butter which wasn't part of the tasting menu. The main courses were disappointing for sure. In the end, our bill came to $215 and the meal wasn't enjoyable except for the company. read more

Last night's dinner was delicious, worthy of a Michelin-starred restaurant. The food was delicious, and the service was warm and friendly, but there were a few things that confused me. I brought my own bottle of wine. Initially, he told me that if it was a Livermore wine, the corkage fee would be $15. When I mentioned it was a 2003 French wine, he said $25, and I agreed. However, when the bill came, the corkage fee was $30. I paid without questioning, but it made me feel a little uncomfortable. Most restaurants usually give a birthday dessert with a candle. Before the bill came, I asked the waiter if there was one, and he said ABSOLUTELY, but I didn't see it. I had planned to give a cash tip on top of the standard 20% as a thank you for the birthday surprise, but since that didn't happen, I left a normal tip. Overall, the food was excellent, but the service could be improved. read more

i like the deviled eggs. interesting taste. i did not care for the dessert. the table wasn't as clean as I like it to be when I sit down. there were crumbs on the chairs. I was here as a guest of a friend who wanted to take me out for a nice meal before heading over to the fair grounds. the water glasses had spots on them. the silverware not sparkling clean at all. however, the wait staff was extremely apologetic and their apologies I accepted but my friend he was in a stated of rage over the whole matter. I prevented him from throwing our meal back at the waiter/server. when it came time to pay the bill he refused to leave a tip. i left a small tip anyhow but I should not of had to leave the tip. read more

This place has horrible customer service! If I could give them a zero stars, I would. The server acts like it isn't his job to serve us even after having an empty restaurant. I can see why they are empty now. My friends and I came for a birthday party today and the male waiter was rude and unpleasant. He's lucky it wasn't my birthday. We asked for paper napkins because the burgers they provide are literally dripping and he replied "it isn't this kinda of place". Like dude, you are literally a server. Arrrived early last Sat evening and sat near bar. was told right up front they were heavily booked for the night so there was a limit to the time we could occupy the table. No at problem. Like previous visit bartender was doing bar tending and waiting tables. Not so successfully this time. We never received a spoon to serve risotto dish. I ordered skirt steak and it was terrible. Tough and gristly. Could hardly cut. Took it home to dog as that was what it was worth. Sadly I will not return. I flet ripped off. My first visit last Sept. was fantastic, so much, I drove 45 miles to eat at Sabio a second time, but was very disappointed. read more

Well, let me just say I am wolfing down a piece of bread to quell my hunger before writing this review... We just returned from "dining" or should I say "lightly grazing" at Sabio's. The Emperor has no clothes!!! I ordered the large mushroom broth. 2 oz of water and literally one spoonful of noodles and shredded carrots. I am serious, 1 spoonful. The portions are ridiculously small and expensive, although good. I have enjoyed tapas in many Spanish cities and the cuisine at Sabio's bears absolutely no resemblance. Nice ambience and decor. Bacci's across the street, Locanta or Blue Agave are MUCH better choices. read more

We thought this was a wine bar and popped in for an after dinner drink. When the server realized we weren't there for dinner, they seemed a little put off and were less than attentive. I ordered coffee and my spouse had a sparkling wine. The coffee was the strongest I've ever been served and I like coffee. After pouring an entire small pitcher of half and half into it, it was still black. Didn't drink it. Paid and left. Likely won't go again. We chose to celebrate our anniversary at Sabio based on a Facebook discussion and images that their photographer took. The decor is tastefully decorated in a modern style. My husband had their specialty G&T which was delish and I enjoyed a dirty martini. Food was excellent and many choices to choose from. Our favorites were the lamb meatballs and the cauliflower. The steak tartar spring rolls were exceptional as well as the heirloom salad. Definitely a special occasion destination. read more

Mr. GM, That's right, your food was good but not worth it. Some might even go as far as saying it's a rip off. But if I were a restaurateur, I would listen to my customers and at least respect their opinion. You might be right, but I don't think I am the 1st customer who has written this about your restaurant so you can choose to ignore it, be defensive about it, or simply acknowledge it. While on the pricier side, Sabio is a fun experience. I personally am a fan of small plates because I like a little bit of everything. The Pork Belly was recommended to me and I have to say I really did enjoy it. I also really like the cauliflower and the oysters were a hit with our table. They also have a great drink list. If you have a celebration or a friend visiting I think this place is great! read more

Had an incredible experience here at Sabio. The food was phenomenal, from the presentation to the taste of every dish, it was great. The service was outstanding, among everyone else that brought drinks and dishes out was amazing. The dessert experience was so cool too. I've been here for brunch, lunch, and dinner and Sabio never ceases to amaze me with their quality of food, and high level of customer service. Brunch is fantastic and you can never go wrong with the eggs benedict or pasturebird chicken hash. The smoked salmon deviled eggs and togarashi chips are my go to appetizers. Went on a Tuesday night with 3 friends...service was extremely slow even though the place was not that busy. The server was very difficult to understand, advertised meatballs were not available when ordered. The plates seem overpriced for what is served, we definitely will pass on a second visit. read more

Finally I get a chance to write some reviews and definitely owe one to this one. Wonderful food experience and nice service! We been here several times and never got disappointed. Oysters, cocktails, wine selection, from small plates to entree's, all are great. Love their desserts too! read more

Very good food, A little pricey for what you get. But don't get me wrong the food was still amazing, my bank account doesn't feel so amazing after the meal though. Good service I would return again soon. read more
