The food was fantastic, and the staff and owner are truly wonderful people. I had a small hiccup on my end with my card, and they were incredibly patient, kind, and understanding. It's hard to find people like that these days, and I really appreciated how they treated me. I live two hours away, but every time I'm in the area for work, I'll definitely be stopping by and supporting this business. I can't recommend them enough! Sabor A Mexico ("Flavor of Mexico"). Mineral, VA. Dec, 2025. My husband and I just returned from Tucson, AZ where, being so close to the Mexican border, we had some excellent Mexican food. We have since returned home to our rural community in Virginia, and went to Sabor A Mexico for an early dinner. The waitress immediately brought us a basket of their complimentary fresh tortilla chips, and their homemade (excellent) salsa. Per our usual habit, we split our entrees. I ordered a grilled taco plate ($12.47) which features three flour tacos, with choice of meat, refried beans, rice, homemade pico de gallo, and another sauce (tasty, but not sure what it was). I got one each of chicken, carnitas (pork) and carne asada (steak) tacos. My husband predictably? got a taco salad ($9.62) with ground beef, refried beans, iceberg lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, and sour cream, served in a deep fried shell. All of the food was tasty and was as authentic as the Mexican food we ate in Tucson. Quantities were excellent. I couldn't eat "my half", and turned the plate back to my husband to finish off. Our waitress was attentive, checking on us regularly to see if we needed anything. A few small quibbles -- we prefer a salsa with some chunks in it; this one was over-processed for our preference. Also, the pico de gallo was more liquidy than we'd prefer. It made the rest of the food a bit wet. Beyond the restaurant's control, taxes are high at 11.3%, with the town of Mineral getting 6% whereas the state of Virginia gets 5.3%. We enjoy this restaurant, and will return. read more

Let's taco bout this busy spot in the heart of Mineral! We were on our way to Culpeper and had a hankering for Mexican food, lo and behold, we spotted Sabor! Upon entering, we were greeting by a pleasant lady who was a busy bee! We ordered our meals "to go" and while we waited, this lady brought us our sodas and chips & salsa to snack on. The festive decor was typical of most Mexican restaurants. It was clean, but with some supplies stacked against the walls and cluttered counters which were a bit of an eyesore. The restroom was nice and tidy though! You can tell this is a hopping place for locals because they flocked here! True, there aren't many other joints in this small town! Nevertheless, on this beautiful spring day, several customers were enjoying the outdoor seating with tables bedecked with bright market umbrellas! Others were inside the galley styled floor plan, munching on their meals! Our food came out Piping hot and well packaged with additional chips and salsa! The tortilla chips were warm, delicate, crispy. I chose the taquitos, because what's easier to eat on the road than a rolled taco?! What a huge portion for the price! My entree came with two hefty beef and two yummy chicken taquitos on a bed of rice, served with lettuce, tomato, cheese, guac and sour cream! I wish I had taken a photo before I chowed down! The meats were tender and juicy, with flavorful spices and packed a wallop! Amazing! My sis ordered the chicken quesadilla and was equally impressed with her meal! Once we arrived at our destination, we finished up the tangy rice and sides! We savored every bite! A simple Mexican restaurant with very average food. Although service was sufficient, the down draw is the food both in quality and quantity. Our party of six all agreed to this rating for dinner. The meals were relatively smaller in size and the quality is just mediocre. Nothing special about any dish. Ambiance is low budget. You get what you pay generally and when I paid the bill, all the prices reflected a 10-25% increase from the menu prices. This is deceptive. I gave this place a 3* which I think is generous. This is a Mexican restaurant in Mineral, VA look up the population! This is a one-light town. Yet this restaurant challenges the Mexican food I've had while living in SoCal. Their service has always been great. The real thing holding me back from the full 5-star is I haven't eaten Mexican food in Texas or Mexico so until then! And another small drawback is the size of the restaurant and parking lot. But as I mentioned earlier look at the population of Mineral. Visited this place while camping at Lake Anna State Park, so we are not local. Place was difficult to park at with our big ol truck but we found a suitable spot. The salsa that went with the chips was quite good. Had plenty of flavor and a hint of heat. The #8 combo that was enchilada, taco, beans and rice didn't look special but was full of flavor and was quite delicious. The chilaquiles also didn't look special or what was expected but was also Full of flavor and taste very good. Nice Mexican joint in a very small town. The decor is typical mexican cafe but kind of quirky. Doesnt look like much from the outside, and some areas look a bit cluttered inside but dont let that fool you. It was very clean and tidy. Lots of tables and booths inside as well as some outside. We were quickly greeted by a very pleasant lady upon entering who took us to our seat. Soon after someone dropped by with a basket of chips and dish of salsa. The chips are light and crispy and the salsa addictive. Our server took out drink orders. They have a full bar , beer and wine, though it is not on the menu. Margaritas are a good size and delicious-beers ice cold, great prices too. We ordered a couple plates. Tacos, burritos enchiladas and chile rellenos. They arrived piping hot and the cheese melting. With it's quiet cacophony of pans banging, Spanish speaking, and lightly playing Mexican music, the off-to-the-side room we sat in at Sabor had the ambiance of a Vince Gilligan TV show. You know that distorted buzzing where if you listen really closely you can hear all those things in the background? Right before something bad happens? That's it. Then there's the lack of a full bar, which more specifically for me, means lack of margaritas. Ugh. The waitress was so, so sweet, "sorry, it takes longer for the liquor license to come through, so we just have beer and wine." I ordered sangria. It was tasty, but served straight-up; no ice and no fruit. Which is kind of the whole point of sangria, amiright? Anyway, I was in a good mood when we got here so I was trying everything in my power not to be let down by the smell of cleaner wafting in from the bathrooms. And the lack of tequila in my system. Despite our friendly waitress, I was not feeling super optimistic. I ordered chicken fajitas. Hubby ordered arroz con pollo. The food came out quick--like way quicker than I would have thought possible. The portions of both our meals were HUGE. We easily could have split either, but of course we didn't. My husband and I found a real Mexican treasure in the very Center of Mineral,VA. We ordered their homemade Guacamole, which deserves all 5 stars for the flavor and 4 stars for the portion size. I also had Lunch Vegetarian Fajitas, which probably were the best fajitas I've tried in my life. Vegetables were grilled to perfection and had juicy flavor. My husband had Flautitas with beef and chicken. He was overwhelmed by the authenticity and rich flavor of the food.
