Place an order about 90 minutes ago. The bill was around $96. I called to see where the order was as the person who took the order stated it would delivered within 90 minutes. I spoke with Antonio. When I spoke to him he then changed the story and stated that it would take an additional 15 minutes. I then asked for some kind of compensation for the delay. While he was calculating, I could hear Antonio call me a FAGGOT and other homophobic names in Spanish. The only restaurant in Miami that is always packed 7 days a week, inside and out! I can verify since I live 2 blocks away and walk my dog past it every night. Once I tried it, I understood why it's packed and every restaurant next door is empty on weekdays.... the secret is: food is fresh, delicious, consistent and portions are perfect. It's very consistent like Starbucks or a five star resort. Took my family there when they visited from Chicago and since then my dad can't stop talking about it and makes everyone go every time they fly in on the first night. I have been hearing about this place since I moved to the neighborhood. I was finally excited to try it with some friends. There are two storefronts right next door to each other as well as outdoor seating in front of both. Both stores were packed with patrons as is always the case whenever I have passed by. Centrally located in the downtown area right on Biscayne makes it easy to find and get to. We found a table inside. Just walking in you can see the portion sizes are huge so bring your appetite or be prepared to take food home. I ordered chicken fried rice. The other orders included ceviche and calamari. If I recall correctly I had fresh squeezed lemonade for a drink. I'm always impressed when this is a drink option. The fried rice was really good. I was starving so I handled most of it in the restaurant! My friends equally enjoyed their dinners. The ambiance is a little hectic because there's so much happening. There was some confusion with the server due to language as well as some times it was hard to catch our server. Second worst restaurant experience I've had in Miami! We were never offered water or chips. We had to ask to have our table cleaned, server was horrible. Meals were brought 5 minutes apart. My sister's food was brought after everyone was finished. Side of beans was brought after the main entree was eaten. Not sure who runs the kitchen but we had a horrible experience. There is a Peruvian place on every corner nowadays and I make it a point to go around trying different ones to compare and see if one happens to be a lot better then the other. For years, I couldn't find one to rave about... Yesterday though, I finally found a spot worth talking about!!! Its small place located on biscayne in Edgewater. Very mom and popish. Maybe sits about 50 people on the inside with a small patio on the store front. The service was pretty great and the food came out quick and was phenomenal!!! The plates were huge as well so between 4 grown men, we shared 3 plates. A chaufa de mariscos, a lomo saltado and a fried calamri plate. I really wish I had taken pictures cause not only was I left longing for more but the plates looks amazing themselves. Unfortunately, the hunger was real and I was on lunch break so we ended up just digging in as soon as the food hit the table. The seafood tasted fresh (mariscos for those who don't speak spanish), the lomo (tenderloin) was delectable, and the the calamri size and texture was definitely high end. Every plate here is shareable with family size portions.. let's just say 4 people ate from the veggie chaufa and we still had left over Of course we had to start with some fish ceviche which was very fresh and lemony (just how I like it). We also ordered the lomo saltado (it was a bit salty for my taste) but the Jalea was out of this world. The fish was cooked perfectly, very tender but crunchy all at the same time. They are reasonably priced, their food is well seasoned, and their portions are generous! My husband and I ordered the Jalea and some fried rice and it was delicious! This place is amazing! I can't believe I haven't done a review of this place yet. I've been here several times already and it's been awesome every time. The servers are quick with taking orders and the food comes out in perfect fashion and super fresh. They do get very busy in the weekends so make sure you arrive early. We were a party of six and luckily didn't have to wait. The kids shared chaufa, my wife and in-laws got jalea and I got the lomo salteado. All plates were exquisite. I have been to Sabor a Peru several times as I live in the neighborhood and the food has always been great and the servers have always been friendly and do a good job. With that being said, they always add a 15% service fee to your bill. I usually have no problem with this as I always tip 20% or more. The problem is that they don't tell you the 15% tip is included (no itemized receipt) and then recommend that you tip 18 - 22% in addition to what they have already included. This is very unethical and should be corrected right away. If you include a 15% service charge, it should be itemized on your bill and the recommended additional tips should be 3 - 7% of the cost of your meal, not 18 - 22%. It should also state that you are leaving an additional tip. The first couple times I visited, I unknowingly tipped 35% because of this scam. They also charge this 15% service fee on take out orders and try to get you to tip on top of that as well, just as if you were dining in. This is the reason for the 2 star review: I picked up a takeout order yesterday and since I knew the 15% was already included, I selected "No Tip" on the credit card machine. The server then argued with me that I should leave a tip, held the screen in my face and demanded that I tip. I was shocked and have never experienced anything like that at a restaurant. After arguing with the server, I added $1 to get out of a very awkward situation. So not only did they add a tip to a takeout order without telling me, they argued with me when I didn't tip them more! Unbelievable. I know its nice to tip on take out orders but should not be required. I still like this restaurant and as I said, have had mostly good experiences. Hopefully this incident was just one bad employee, but regardless, Sabor a Peru needs to be more transparent with their service charges. I'm sure many people every day don't notice the 15% service charge and end up tipping in excess of 30%. That's not how loyal customers should be treated. I do still recommend this restaurant if you are looking for affordable authentic Peruvian food, but make sure you are aware of the hidden 15% service charge. read more

Tried this place for the first time thanks to Yelp and it is now by far one of my favorite Peruvian restaurants! Went there on a Sunday afternoon and got seated quickly. The place is small so be prepared to wait if you come on busy days. We started with the ceviche mixto (must have!) and the papa a la huancaina. Both appetizers were on point, especially the ceviche. It was made to order, extremely fresh and the portion is perfect. I also had a glass of sangria, really good and not overpriced. For entrees, my bf had the lomo saltado and I had the pollo saltado. Talk about a generous portion!! Both meats were really tender and full of flavor. They definitely do not skimp out on the meat like most places do. I honestly wanted to give this place a better rating but if 3 stars means "A-OK" - I can't. I always order the same thing when I get Peruvian: the ceviche mixto. This ceviche was mostly delicious. HOWEVER, the pieces of octopus were so tough it felt like a chew toy. I couldn't eat it and had a neat pile of octopus (usually my favorite part) residing on the corner of my plate when I was done.
