TL;dr - Really good food, really pretentious service. We stopped by on a Saturday, around noon, for lunch. Our first time in Cincinnati, we didn't know what to expect and happened to be in the Findlay Market area. The Yelp reviews were strong, so we thought we'd try our luck. The wait was over an hour, so we opted to try another place, but made reservations here for the next morning. When we arrived the next morning, for a 10:30 reservation, there was just a weird vibe. The hostess greeted us coldly, acting like she was bothered that we had a reservation. She led us to a table without saying much else. When our server came, the awkwardness continued. We asked for recommendations and she seemed inconvenienced and indifferent. In fairness, the food was great. The diner's breakfast had some perfectly cooked eggs that were creamy and fluffy with fresh chives, the pork belly had an awesome char and a hint of sweetness, and the pancakes were great. The hasbrowns stole the show and reminded me of Sunday Roast potatoes in the UK. The food saved our experience. These guys have a good thing going, and they clearly know it, but a little humility wouldn't hurt them. read more

After a decade-plus of being let down by OTR restaurant hype (think the big early trio of Senate, Bakersfield, and the Eagle), our expectations are no longer very high when we enter the neighborhood for dining. When we first visited last year, though, Sacred Beast was, for us, the first OTR restaurant to blast past that now-lower threshold. The name, which seems to fit into the urban-bro aesthetic of the Vine Street restaurant row, wasn't very promising, but the menu, with its high-end-diner and higher-end-app-and-entree mix, was at least fascinating. It was a very simple dish that immediately served notice that Sacred Beast was something special: just a shaved veggie salad, but it was artfully assembled and amplified the flavors and textures of a variety of fresh vegetables you don't see every day. Almost every menu item we've had after that (three visits so far) has offered up either wonderful surprises or was simply delicious, if not both. Sacred Beast has easily surpassed our expectations. On that first night, we also had the deviled eggs. Who gets excited about those? But Holy Baby Bejeebus, these are just about the best, and most beautiful (check the photos various diners have posted), deviled eggs you've ever had. They've got chilis and pork-rind bits and are sprinkled with mustard seeds and look like they're painstakingly assembled by a pastry chef. ("This ain't no picnic," so to speak, but deviled eggs from a marvelous alternate world.) I also had the smoked salmon "lox" sandwich, which wasn't exactly the most exciting concept ever but, again, all the ingredients were very fresh, and they clicked. That night, the wife had the chili crunch chicken, which looked like a high-end version of some kind mall-food-court Chinese item--frankly, it seemed kinda ridiculous--but it ended up having huge but balanced flavors and was really good. Next time, we had the salmon tataki, and I had an apparent mainstay from the menu's entree section, the chicken schnitzel. The tataki included kimchi, which I thought might overwhelm the salmon, but they actually worked great together. And the schnitzel was topped with what amounted to a big arugula salad, which I though might ruin the crispiness of the fried chicken. But it didn't. Both dishes were excellent. On a third visit, we started with beef tartare. This, of course, wasn't the classic version with capers, etc., but instead had manchego cheese. Perhaps the first surprise that wasn't a home run, because this was a bit bland even if all of the products were top-shelf and the dish was fresh-tasting and texturally pleasing. But a cod beurre blanc really showcased the kitchen's fine-dining chops--a simple dish beautifully composed and executed. And at only $22, a good value by 2023 standards. So yeah, Sacred Beast calls itself a "diner." The wife did order the omelette (piquillo peppers and goat cheese) plate this last time. The restaurant hit that nail on the head, too. But for me, Sacred Beast's real value lies in mixing and matching items from the non-diner parts of the menu. Although slick and urbane like many other OTR restaurants, Sacred Beast is owned and operated by a family, and they seem to apply quite a bit more personalized care and imagination to what's going on here than you see elsewhere. (No "restaurant group" painting by the numbers here.) Service has been great for the most part, the cocktails are good and fairly priced, and the music program is certainly better than those of most restaurants. All pluses. All in all, one of the more satisfying restaurants in town. read more

Solid Brunch at Scared Beast on a Saturday morning. Happy we made reservations at 10:30 as when we left at 12:30 this place was PACKED! I opted for the Pomme Nojito drink - it was very flavorful and they used a lot of mint which was great. My friends had bloody Mary's, mimosas and champagne and all of them liked their beverages. All the coup glasses were very cute. For my meal I had the Fried Goat Cheese Salad and added Chicken. This was unique and full of fun ingredients - a nice surprise vs. salads you often see on the menu at other places. The only reason for 4 stars is due to our server, when he came to take drink orders at 10:30 he only took 2 orders of the 3 of us physically sitting there. Idk what took me so long to get here, but I already can't wait to come back! They have huge booths that fit our party of 8 easily, and we were able to make a reservation for Sunday brunch ahead of time on Open Table. Our server Alex was amazing! He knew the menu so well and gave a fabulous rundown prior to ordering as many of us had not been there before. He was attentive and kept us informed about the kitchen being backed up. My favorite thing here is the deviled eggs! Holy cow they are delicious! For main entree I had the neckbone gravy and hashbrowns, which was good but definitely missing something. I wanted the hashbrowns to be cooked a little longer so they were nice and crispy. The chicken also was a little rubbery. Two of my friends got the dirty French burger which basically is French onion soup on a burger, they said it was delicious! Great vibe in this place! The decor has a really authentic feel and the wait staff is friendly and helpful. This Friday night we sat in the smaller room in the back and the server went out of the way to let me friend try small sips of a few of their red wines before she chose one. He was also great about describing the food and had obviously tried all the dishes. We kinda closed the place down but they were gracious to ask us to close our check out but didn't make us feel uncomfortable. We had the truffle risotto balls- super tasty perfect size starter. Pretty good food - I think I just am not ordering the right things. I've learned they're known for their burger and their fish sandwich is supposed to be great. My friends got those and loved them. I got the lemon ricotta pancakes, pork belly, and soft scrambled eggs - I think I am just not a huge ricotta fan and the texture of the pancake wasn't as fluffy as I would like (probably due to the ricotta). My girlfriend took me here for our first 'real' date. It was wonderful! We both have gluten allergies and the server was great about answering our questions and making sure everything was safe for us. The vibe was very nice for a date. We started with the risotto balls, yum! I could eat like ten of those. They were warm and crispy and savory. I got the chili crunch chicken and it was soooo good! The side of cucumbers that comes with it was so delicious and flavorful and crunchy! She got the Chicken Schnitzel, which I tried a bite of and it was also super yummy! We really enjoyed our Sunday Brunch here on this cold snowy Sunday morning. The decor is totally cool casual. Really love the look and it feels very intentional. It wasn't super crowded and we were able to get a seat immediately. I'm guess this might now be the case on a nice summer Sunday when OTR is popping. The food was great. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes and they may just be my favorite pancakes in the city, they were perfectly soft and creamy. I also had a side of hash browns which were very unique and quite good. My boyfriend had the French toast which he loved. He really likes their scrambled eggs as well. He had a bit of an internal meltdown because they didn't have bacon, only pork belly. I would say that the pork belly wasn't the best, I've had much better and probably wouldn't order it here again. I feel like pork belly should melt in your mouth and this was quite tough. Great place! I highly recommend! Very unique and not your run of the mill diner. Can't wait to go back from lunch or dinner. read more

We went to Sacred Beast while visiting Cincinnati for the weekend, and were very excited about it after all of the raving reviews. We were a bit disappointed after our experience; it was nearly 20 minutes before our server spoke to us and the whole experience took far too long for breakfast (nearly 1.5 hours). Our biggest regret was ordering the pork belly - we were expecting the melt in your mouth goodness and so excited to try it, unfortunately it was more like a dry jerky with the flavor being the only thing going for it. Our server was happy to take this off of our check which we appreciated, but certainly don't waste your time with that dish if you're expecting incredible pork belly. I finally came back here for brunch! The Diner Breakfast is where it's at. I ordered scrambled eggs with their Lemon Ricotta pancakes. And I swapped the Pork Belly for Goetta. The Goetta was not my favorite, although it was a huge portion! It tasted like it had a lot of oats in it, so I would have preferred a smaller portion with more of that sausage taste. Sacred Beast was such a lively restaurant stop on Saturday night. We had a reservation and I am glad we did because the place looked full at a glance! Our server was great, fielded our questions and checked on us frequently, but not too frequently. The place is pretty relaxed, concrete floors and metal chairs. Industrial vibe with exposed ceiling ductwork and such. They had a fun cocktail assortment, I had their special berry cocktail ($12 maybe) and it was really tasty and not too sweet. Our table shared the deviled eggs (you get 6), they were delicious and so perfectly cooked. A friend and I split the Chicken Schnitzel and the Dirty French. Both were delish! I will say you'd probably want to add a side dish to these. Each dish was priced $19-$20 each and fries are an additional $7. Personally the value wasn't there for me compared to nearby gastropubs who offer a more upscale ambiance at similar price points. read more

A large group and I visited Sacred Beast for brunch today. I have been wanting to visit, so I was glad that this is where we ended up choosing for brunch. From the looks of it, it seems like a very brunch-vibed place. Lots of windows, spaced out seating, and lighter colors around. I'd be interested to see what this place turns into during dinner time. All the food was tasteful and seasoned well. I enjoyed the Blackened Mahi Reuben that I ordered. Our waitress mentioned it is a house favorite at the moment and I totally agree. I thought they heavily seasoned fish and sauerkraut really played well together. As for the veg hash, it was tasteful, but wasn't as "veg" forward as I would've liked. Considering our large group size, our service was good. We received our food relatively quickly and it was hot. No complaints. I recommend this place for brunch with friends or a casual date . I'll keep my recommendation only towards brunch because that's all I experienced. read more
