We visited this coffee house on a Sunday morning. It was a nice inviting space, but awkwardly silent, with no music playing in the background and nothing to shape the vibe inside. There was no wait to order, and service was sufficient. Got a customized breakfast sandwich with a sausage patty and cheddar on a croissant bun, a turkey sandwich on wheat, iced mocha, and green tea. The croissant bun was a bit stale but everything else was good. Savory sausage, fluffy egg, gooey melted cheese. My bf had no complaints about his turkey sandwich. And the beverages were made fresh and satisfying. This is a little coffee house tucked away near St Mary's and the Haight Street neighborhood. it has nice old decorations everywhere. Beautiful old coffee house a shrinking commodity around here. This is one of those low-key coffee spots that serves its purpose as a social hub for residents in this NoPa neighborhood. Located at Hayes and Cole near the UCSF Health St. Mary's Hospital, it has an unassuming presence which drew me in as I was walking back from Golden Gate Park. It was only about 2PM, about an hour before closing time, but the owner was already out of coffee. I grew up going to cafes where people hung out and socialized or read. Cafes with ancient couches and sticky chairs, board games and open mics. Regulars with big bellies, people who might hang out in libraries too. Cafes have turned into instagram worthy luxury spots to catch up on work. Sleep, polished wood and no pictures on the walls. I'm not against them but they're a dime a dozen these days and they're kinda purposely unwelcoming. This place is a true community gem. It's a couple blocks from USF so you'll find students cramming. And lots of folks from the neighborhood. They have free WiFi but I almost never see people working. I love coming to this spot. I typically just get a breakfast sandwich and they are affordable and absolutely delicious. The owner could easily charge five dollars more without betting and I but he keeps it reasonable. I highly recommend trying the "fogs" here if you haven't - my favorite is the London Fog, which is an earl grey tea latte. I can't say much about the food since I only tried their lox here and it was pretty good for the portion and price. My colleagues often purchase food here though and enjoy the sandwiches.
