So I use to eat here. Used to get the butter chicken and Chana masala. One day I decided to change my usual order into a kabob. I was craving one. I got the kabob was Not that good but, nonetheless I was starving. My last bite I took ended up with a big crunch. It felt kind of familiar but I was hoping it was a herb of some sort. Nope it was a fingernail. Gross! I threw everything in the trash. Didn't know if I was going to find the remaining nine nails. I called to just let them know what happened. They offered me another meal(not happening). The guy (very apologetic) who was managing that night came to pick up the evidence. I was told I was going to get a refund. It's been two weeks. If you judge this book by its cover you'll never go in and you'll never eat here because it is nondescript, in a basement, and on a side street. The menu says it sells kabobs, pizza, and wraps, and I was like - this place can't be for real. But, if you want good indian food, like I mean great indian food, maybe the best overall Indian place of any place I can think of in DC, go here. The lamb is among the best I've had in the city from any type of restaurant. Lamb beryani, a personal favorite. THe saag is great, the chicken tikka is great.... This is primarily a take-out place. This place is not Rasika. Rasika looks great on the inside, it's the date place you bring people to and they get impressed, has that awesome spinach dish that everyone likes, sure. But, this place is a cheaper, just as good overall if not better. You wont regret going here. In fact, you'll go back again, and again. And then your roommate will go, and then your girlfriend will say -- what about that indian place in the basement, that place is awesome, can we order from there? read more

I believe recently the place changed ownership. One of the guys is kind of weird and made me feel awkward about being there. I think the chicken biriyani is probably the best thing on the menu, but really only worth it if you get an instant deal off of groupon or living social. read more

Sacrificial Lamb is my go-to for Indian delivery. Everything I've had has been amazing -- I especially like the butter chicken and samosas. The service is fantastic. But, the best part of all is that the food is really inexpensive, which is really unusual for a place in DC. read more

When I think of the 17th street Dupont area, cheap cocktails, outdoor seating and mediocre edibles often come to mind. Sacrificial Lamb bucks the latter trend by serving up quality kabobs at a reasonable price. I live in the neighborhood and stopped by for dinner twice. The boneless chicken kabob with chickpeas and naan was quite tasty! The chicken wasn't dry -- it was well marinated and tender. Be ready -- the guy working there may want you to try free samples of any side you don't order. I've tried them all and chickpeas are my favorite. I haven't tried the pizza so can't vouch for its yummy factor yet. read more

they've changed their samosas recently (i should know - there was a dark time in my life when i was ordering from sacrificial lamb twice a week because it was close and i hate cooking). they taste suspiciously...frozen. anyway, the samosas and gyro wrap are a pretty good deal if you've got less than fifteen bucks to spare and you refuse to cook for yourself because your life is falling apart. the samosas also come with a little side of chickpea stew that is powerfully good. eat all these things and then go immediately sit on the toilet for awhile. wait for death to come. read more

Just picked up an order of palak paneer for lunch. For $10, it was lacking in flavor and lacking in paneer, but the portion was generous and the service was friendly. I'd consider trying another dish, but will probably never have the palak paneer, usually one of my Indian stand-bys, again. Who has ever heard of bland Indian food? read more

The staff is friendly but the food doesn't compare to what is available around the neighborhood. The meat tasted gamy and the chicken was dry. When I order kabobs and I get my order in 5 minutes I'm always a bit suspicious that its just reheated food. However, I've only been here once so take what I say with a grain of salt. read more

What happened?? No Waseem, no delicious food. The flavors were strange, at their charitable best. One of the vegetable options was just apparently from a bag of frozen mixed vegetables, steamed. Went here yesterday with some friends. Wanted to try it after hearing so much about it from others. This is definitely a hole in the wall, so definitely isn't a date place. First off, the staff is very very friendly and courteous. I ordered the chicken naan wrap and it was pretty big and tasted very good. There was lots of meat in it. I got the combo, so I got rice and the chicpeas. I wanted to try some butter chicken so they offered to put it on top of the rice for free. Not just a little bit, but a lot of it. Butter chicken was solid, wish it had some more spice to it. That's Prices are pretty cheap also. You can get the combo for $10. I've tried lots of kabob and Pakistani food places in DC and this is definitely one of the better ones. Food is all halal too, so big points there. This place is horrible. I ordered chicken tikka masala, which is supposed to be the specialty, and it was awful. Bland. The rice was minute rice, not basmati or jasmine. I ordered garlic naan and got plain tandoori bread, but it was delivered so I couldn't rectify it. I called my order as I walked there, and it was ready very quickly. I got the lamb korma and an order of their gullub jaman. The korma was great! The lamb was soft and well seasoned. The korma was just the right amount of spicy for such a mild dish. The portion size was also pretty large for how much it cost. As for the gullub jaman, it was nearly perfect! This is a divey spot that's easy to miss because of its subterranean location. They serve "Mediterranean" and Indian food and it's pretty delicious. The prices are a little high when taking the grimy atmosphere into account, but I can't complain about the tastiness of their product and the size of the portions. Sacrificial Lamb is a great addition to the "quick" food options on 17th Street, which previously were McDonalds and Subway. Everything is pretty mildly spiced. The food is more Pakistani than Indian so the flavors are slight different.. Depending on who's cooking you get some range in how well it's cooked but in general they gyro, samosas, palak paneer and chickpeas are solid choices. I don't really eat much else here. I ordered takeout from here a couple of days ago and am really disappointed in the minuscule portions. An $11 - $13 entree is maybe 10 spoonfulls of food from their takeout container. This and other DC restaurants burn me alive to charge more than 10x what it costs them for the food in the bowl. I'm sick of it. I'm fine with smaller portions if the price is lower, but this has gotten ridiculous. I have no patience anymore for feeling cheated out of my money and this was my first and certainly last order from here. The food itself is ok, certainly not the best. This review is coming after my second visit to Sacrificial Lamb. I'm historically not the most adventurous eater, so I can't really offer any kind of commentary on how authentic or nuanced the food at Sacrificial Lamb is. But man, it is GOOD. I got the traditional gyro in naan with chickpeas and rice on this occasion, and my girlfriend got the chicken wrap in naan, but last time got the vegetable platter. First off, the help is SO nice, obviously excited to be sharing this food with their clientele. The setting is nice enough - unpretentious, not heavy on the decor but clean and presentable, with outside seating at a below-the-street level. The food is incredible. Sauces, spices, in gredients - not a bite was wasted, and there was a lot of food fo the money. My gyro platter was $9 and the chickpeas and rice alone were enough for a full meal. I actually made an attempt to visit this place the day after I first tried it a few weeks ago, but it was closed (I headed out at 11pm on a Sunday, so. . . my bad). But it was really good. Best Pakistani kebab place in NW (Save from going to VA ) ! We had 'lamb seekh Kebab ' & regular 'Lamb kebab" platters ie With a perfect chick pea curry served over basmati rice & it was delicious ! Charcoal tandoor gave great taste to medium spicy lamb morsels. Generous portions of meat & good quality ! Price was $ 9.95 for 'Lamb Seekh Kebab' tax included. Being at corner of R & 17th; I'm sure rent must be premium & wasn't expecting cheaper prices for platters unless they compromise on meat quality GOD FORBIDS ! LOL !! Anyway, I'm pretty tired of those electric/gas tandoors that everyone uses in NW so I enjoyed my food. I very rarely toss an entire meal but the kabob combo with lamb kabob and beef seekh kabob were literally rotten. The meat stank. I threw away the entire box. I cannot understand the positive ratings for this restaurant. This was some of the worst I've ever had. The rice tasted like 1-minute rice, the side of chole was flavorless, and the meat almost made me gag. I suspect some of the other reviews are fake. Less important but worth noting: the delivery guy took nearly 90 minutes to find an address that is a standard cross-street in Washington DC. He actually said he didn't know how to find my numerical address once he was on my street, and walked in the direction of diminishing numbers when he needed to walk in the direction of increasing numbers. I was forced to walk down to the sidewalk and hunt him down while talking to him on the phone. PS Look at the photos - do those actually look good to anyone? (I wish I'd paid heed.) read more
