I've been using Sadie James photography for years. Cheryl has a way with the kids that brings out their personalities and just capturing special family moments. She is patient and takes her time, especially with the newborns and little kids. Taking breaks when their attention is gone. Her setups are always amazing. The seasonal mini sessions are so fun and such a great way of capturing the kid's progression of growth. They change and grow SO much throughout the year when they're little. We did a family photoshoot at Oso Trail in Mission Viejo with Sadie James Photography. My family - my husband, my son and I, my brothers and his kids and our parents. It was really hot and there were 9 of us. My mom was cranky and didn't want to be there. Plus, 4 kids who were hot and would rather be ... anywhere. Well, there's SSOOOO much to say about Cheryl that my wife and I don't really know where to start!! When we first found out we were having a baby, we started researching people to take newborn pictures. And as you can imagine, there's TONS of people who do this. At first, we were emailed the package information and it was really overwhelming, but when we met her in person and she broke down each item and what each package was, it started to make sense. AMAZING!!! Where do I start?!... from the moment I found out I was pregnant I knew I wanted it documented via photos once he was born. Weeks after my little guy was born I researched and found Sadie James Photography. I spoke to Cheryl and immediately feel in love LOL she was soo patient and explained everything to the detail. My son was soon approaching his one month mark and we set up the appointment as soon as we could. The pictures turned out beautiful!!! We had Cheryl shoot a family photo at Irvine Regional Park. Prior to the shoot, Cheryl met with us to discuss our wardrobe for the shoot and what colors each individual would be wearing, and how the colors would look with the park as a backdrop. We each picked different outfits we thought would look good, and Cheryl mixed and matched until she found just the right balance. My wife needed new clothes for the shoot, and she texted photos back and forth with Cheryl from the mall of different outfits until she found just the one. One can tell that Cheryl and her team enjoy what they do and want their clients to be happy with the end product. The day of the shoot we started early, around 7am, and were worried that our 3 year old would not be cooperative. But Cheryl made her and everyone else feel at ease. She had several setting picked out that she thought might work. We met with her a few weeks after the shoot and were amazed at how well the pictures came out. They were definitely the best family photos we've ever taken. If we had a single problem it was that there were so many good photos that we had a hard time choosing which ones we liked best. I was frantically looking for a photographer to specifically shoot photos of my newborn baby. I didn't have that much time as my baby was already 2 weeks old and I wanted to capture her when she was still very little. I called Sadie James Photography and talked to Cheryl. She was friendly and warm over the phone and took her time to explain the baby packages she offers. She was booked out several weeks but knew how important it was to capture newborn moments so she rearranged her schedule to get me in within a few days. Sadie James Photography is wonderful! I ordered a baby plan which consisted of newborn, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month and 12 month sessions. Cheryl was always very flexible and spent as much time as needed. The newborn session took almost 4 hours, had to come back twice for 3,6 and 12 month sessions because baby was grouchy. This was never a problem nor was I ever charged. The pictures are absolutely awesome!!! They are of the highest quality. I have never been so excited about pictures in my life until now. When I started exploring options for maternity & newborn photos, I considered Sadie James based on her outstanding Yelp reviews. However, I ended up going with another photographer for maternity & newborn photos because she was cheaper & included all digital photos in the cost of the photo shoot. I later came to regret this decision... First Photographer experience: Our maternity photos turned out great, but we were very disappointed after our newborn shoot. We got very few photos & the quality was not what I was expecting. Furthermore, the newborn photo shoot experience was awful. We felt rushed throughout the entire session (which only lasted 2.5-3 hours). Our 10 day-old son started to get fussy because he was hungry & instead of letting me take a break to feed him, she said that we should probably wrap things up because "he was done". When she said this, I was shocked, since we hadn't even attempted to capture a majority of the shots we discussed. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. Sadie James experience: A week after our first newborn photo shoot, I was still upset. I talked to my husband & he was on board with trying a second newborn photo session. We were fortunate that our son was born a month early so he still looked like a newborn. I had Sadie James flagged as a favorite from my earlier list of potential photographers. I called Cheryl & explained our situation. She was very sweet & understanding. Although she was booked for the next few weeks, she understood our time sensitive situation & rearranged her schedule to accommodate our newborn shoot the following week. The newborn photo shoot experience between the first & second photographer was night & day! Cheryl was very patient & made us feel very comfortable. If my son was hungry, we stopped to feed him, if he needed a diaper change, we stopped to change his diaper, if he was fussy, we stopped to soothe him. To make sure Cheryl captured all of the shots we wanted, we were there for nearly 8 hours! And Cheryl never made us feel rushed or uncomfortable throughout the entire day! And, most importantly, we LOVED our photos! Conclusion: You get what you pay for! Although Sadie James was a more expensive option for newborn photos, it was money well spent! Our family has worked with Cheryl at Sadie James Photography since our son, Joshua, was born in January 2010. We did a baby plan for him and loved Cheryl's work so much that we did additional baby plans for our daughter, Ryah, born in July 2011 and our daughter, Abby, born in October 2012. Best Baby/Family photographer in OC!!! When your pregnant, it feels like there is a zillion things to do, plan, buy, research, etc. I put in my time researching photographers and narrowed it down to about 5. After discussing details with all of them I was the most impressed with Sadie James. I loved the packages she offered, the pay as you go or payment plans, and overall her great customer service and warm personality. I previously didn't get quality pictures for my engagement and wedding so really wanted to find an excellent photographer for my baby. My husband and I could not be happier that we found Cheryl, owner of Sadie James Photography. I was instantly impressed with her portfolios on the website. The images alone are amazing and the artistic formula that she uses to edit makes her photos really stand out from the competition. I'd like to emphasize that many photographers won't show you pre-edited pictures at your shoot because they are not good until they can fix things in photoshop. Cheryl, however knows her stuff and has the eye of a true professional. Her unedited work is even amazing! Please, Please do not go with any professional photographer for your baby or children. It's definitely a skill to be able to work specifically with babies and you want someone very experienced who knows how to pose them. Thus far Cheryl has photographed my baby shower, maternity pics, newborn, 4 month, and we have our 8 month pics coming up. We signed up for the full package and are so glad we did! We could not capture our babies first year like Cheryl has. She captured all the spontaneous moments at the shower which I loved. She helped me to find my own comfort and style for my maternity pics. And the newborn pics I cannot even say how much I love them!!! She has a package to fit almost every budget and is so helpful when it comes to ideas, wardrobe, location, and even ordering prints. I was referred to Cheryl by a friend who had booked her for her maternity and newborn session. Cheryl is super professional and responsive with client communication. She is thorough in explaining the process for her services and the many options that are available to fit any budget. Cheryl was very accommodating and flexible--a huge factor when trying to shoot a fussy newborn. We had a rough shoot because our newborn baby was not in the mood to sit in front of the camera so Cheryl graciously allowed us to come on a separate day in order to get the pictures we really wanted. This was after 5 hours of trying to get the pictures we wanted during the first round--this is not the norm by any means! We had no idea the amount of time and patience that is required to shoot babies and are so thankful that Cheryl is a pro at it. Her demeanor is calm yet thorough and really makes you feel taken care of in front of the camera. She offers all the props that you need for the baby shoots that really set her apart from all the other photographers we looked at. Our family had a wonderful time with Sadie James photography and due to our incredible experience during our first family photo shoot we have used her two years in a row. As our family has two very young children and trying to get that right shot can be impossible at times. This was my first baby and the first time I even considered having a photo session like this...The props and outfits she provides for the newborn shoot are simply adorable! The sessions never felt rushed and Cheryl was always patient. If our daughter wasn't cooperating she would gladly reschedule a shoot. Cheryl was very accommodating to our schedule for meetings and and she was extremely great with our daughter. She offers different packages to choose from at various prices. BEST PHOTOGRAPHER EVER!!!! When I found Cheryl on Yelp I was not looking to spend a lot of money. I am a teacher and wanted some cute pictures of my newborn. When I called Cheryl she took the time to explain her packages and showed me her work. Right away she made me feel like we were great friends and I loved her work! I ended up buying her top baby plan and that was three years ago! Now I use her for all my photos and Christmas cards. Once you use her cards and her photos, you'll never want to use anyone else! I found Sadie James Photography on Yelp because I was looking for a photographer to shoot some maternity/family pictures. After speaking with Cheryl on the phone I decided I liked her right away and went to have a consultation with her at her studio. I'm so glad I did. She is an amazing photographer. She is patient, detail oriented, professional, and very fairly priced. She works hard at editing the pictures so they look flawless and her prints are very high quality. I've had 2 shoots with her so far, maternity and newborn. At my maternity shoot my 4 year old son refused to cooperate and she was really patient with him. We shot at a park close at a park close to her studio on a very hot day. She made the shoot quick but my pictures still came out beautiful. The newborn shoot is where I saw how hard she really works as a photographer. Before I begin to tell you why, I have to note that she worked really hard to make sure to fit me into her busy schedule. Newborn shoots are tricky because you only have a time frame of about 10 days to capture that fresh newborn look. I had to cancel my original appointment with her because of a number of health issues my son was having and had to take him to see a couple of doctors. Cheryl made sure to fit me in on a day she was already busy because she said she didn't want me to miss out on new born pictures and I'm so glad she did because the shots were just beautiful. She captured moments in time I would never be able to get back again. On the day of the shoot my 8 day old son who was a great sleeper the first 7 days of his life decided that he wanted to be awake for his first photo shoot. I tried everything to put him to sleep...nursed him, changed him, rocked him (numerous times). Nothing worked. But Cheryl just smiled and waited with me. When he eventually fell asleep 3 hours and 6 diaper changes later she worked quickly to make sure she got as many shots as possible. She took the time to make sure he was perfectly positioned and that all the props were straight (e.g. caps not bunched up, furry blankets were fluffy and not matted down). She would shoot a few pictures then review them to see if anything was out of place and if there was she would adjust it and reshoot the picture. I could see the pride she took in making sure all the shots were just perfect. When I got my proofs I was just so happy. They were gorgeous. I couldn't believe they were of my son. They looked like they were from an ad. If you use Sadie James Photography you won't be sorry. You will never find another photographer who is as patient and dedicated as she is with your newborn. Or who is as caring when it comes to your satisfaction. So far both my shoots have been a great experience with her. I have 2 more shoots scheduled (my son at 6 months and 1 year old) and I am so looking forward to them. read more
