I didn't get to take a photo of what I got but seems like a slower part of town but this coffee shop is actually fairly large and they have parking in the back. When you walk in your warmly greeted by the staff. Although I didn't talk to them long they all were very nice and even helped me pick one of the coffees off their spring menu because I was in between two. I think the prices are good here as for their espresso blend of coffee beans it was only $18 for a pound. I ended up getting a peach cobbler latte and a strudel. The apple strudel I got was amazing it was warmed and buttery and just perfect all around so definitely grab a pastry if you can. The peach cobbler latte was also very good but didn't have the strongest peach flavor but was still good. Overall cute place that keeps the menu rotating which is always good. read more

Today was my first visit to Safai! We visited to try their new fall menu! They offered 4 signature fall drinks. One was the Casper, The Vulturi, the Frankenstein and the vampire boyfriend! When we got there, the line was to the street. It only took about 10-15 minutes to order and only a few minutes waiting on our drink. There were so many baristas, it went seamlessly! The coffee and cookie were ok, not worth coming back for. But the reason this gets 1 star is for the horrendous customer service. They were apparently closing an hour early at 4pm instead of 5pm which they told us at 3:59pm which is fine. But only a couple minutes later one of the staff came up and said " you need to leave now " so rudely. I had my baby with me so it takes a few minutes to pack up, it was also a torrential downpour outside so it took us a little longer than usual, and by a little longer I mean less than 5 minutes from the time the first worker alerted us they were closing. I was in town on business and made plans to co-work with a teammate here for a while. It was their recommendation and I enjoyed every bit of it. Free parking, check! Safai is such an under-the-radar coffee spot. This was confirmed during my most recent visit. Why am I not here more often?!? But the biggest reason for updating my review: Safai has updated its menus. Gone are the crepes! *sad face here* But in its place are now pastries from La Pana Bakery. It would take something great to make up for those crepes. La Pana is just that something. (La Pana is also at Logan Street Market, which is owned by the same owners Safai. Love that local business love and partnership between these two.) Safai also has taken out the long table in the front of the coffee shop and has added more accessible seating. And same as before, the coffee is great as well as the playlist. Safai is also a great place to work and talk to someone over a cup -- a great multi-use coffee shop. Safai is the real deal! They put food away an hour before closing. I said, "It's two hours according to the time"! She said, "We close at 5pm." I replied, "Well, on Yelp it says 6pm." We changed it on Google, not Yelp. She said, "You need to check Google!" I ordered a sandwich, but they didn't have any. "Can I get a bakery item?" "They also didn't have any!" Finally, I asked, "What do you have?" She said, "A bagel with cream cheese." I ordered that, along with a decaf coffee and hot cocoa with two bagels. My decaf coffee was cold, even though I asked for it hot, and the hot cocoa was watery. I told her my coffee was cold instead of offering to make me a new one. She looked at me like, "What do you want me to do?" She said, "I could put it in the microwave--not much of an option--so that's what she did. As we started to eat, she said, "We are closing. Please find your way out to the nearest exit." We couldn't finish our bagels. The ambiance could have been tolerable if they had cleaned the inside and outside, including the parking area. Many people wrote good reviews about this place--something must have changed because our experience at Safai Coffee wasn't positive at all. If I was able to visit Safai as often as I thought of it, I'd be a regular. I wish all the coffee shops offered such interesting drinks for various seasons. I'm hesitant to try new things at other shops but at Safai I seek them out. Today's pick was the iced Flower Garden with lavender and elderberry. The first taste of the latte was quite flowery but it settled down after stirring the straw a few times. My husband selected the Cherry Blossom which is now on my radar. Really love the setting of Safai. Comfortable tables and booths, a fireplace and an extensive menu that has food and alcohol options. They have a few patio tables as well as a window for walk-up orders. Friendly staff, clean restrooms and street parking. Safai sits nears several shops and restaurants in the Highlands. Stopped into Safai after a walk through Cherokee Park over the weekend to try something from their Spring Cocktail menu. The service was quick and friendly, as usual. The people working at Safai are the best. I like the menu changes they've been implementing. There's even a special drink for the different star sign season - very creative and cute if you ask me! I tried the Gold Crush because the fresh squeeze lemonade and honey ingredients really drew me in. It was good! I'd try it again, but I was expecting there to be ice in the glass. Maybe I'll ask for that next time. I really think that if there's a picture of the cocktail on the menu, the cocktail served should look like the picture (glass, ice, etc.). So that's the only downfall. It wasn't too busy for a weekend afternoon. It was nice to sit in the sunroom area and people-watch out to Bardstown Road. read more

Safai coffee is a coffee shop and pastry shop located on the batdstown road strip of the super popular highlands neighborhood in Lousiville. Me and my wife stopped in here late morning the other day while getting an oil change in our other vehicle a few miles down the road. I wanted a frozen drink and some pastries and heard good things so we made the quick drive over. They have a rear personal parking lot (rarity for lots of highland places). We pulled up and they have an outdoor walk up menu. We placed our orders. For our drinks I got a frozen cookies and cream and my wife got a black mango tea. Both our drinks were phenomenal. That frozen cookies and cream may legit Be the best frozen coffee drink I've ever tasted. So good! My wife loved her tea as well. For food my wife got the Nutella crepe with bananas. I got a Mexican sunrise crepe (eggs cheese and sausage). Both not only looked amazing but were very tasty. Very soft and great flavor. Pretty filling to. Overall great place. Very cool outside decor with cool little paintings. Great drinks and food. I could not be more satisfied with our visit. Now every-time i come to the highlands I'm gonna want the cookies and cream frozen drink ane nutella crepe with bananas. read more

My boyfriend got the white chocolate and blackberry latte which he also enjoyed, although he said the blackberry was stronger than he thought. I'm impressed by their unique selection of drinks. They also have smoothies and teas. I got a chocolate croissant and my boyfriend got a bacon burrito. Both of them were amazing. My only complaint with the food is the serving size is a bit small, but for the price it isn't bad. This used to be called Java. They space looks about the same: earthy with all the plants, couches, a fireplace. Lots of people order the crepes here which I will have to try. They serve alcohol, tea, coffee. They've also got a parking lot at the back. I got an oat milk latte with lavender. It was light and too foamy for me. But the guy said black magic is a popular latte, which im interested in trying next time. My friend got the Bangkok green tea (vanilla, lemongrass, coconut).
