This was a very nice grocery store with an impressive variety of items. From the premade section with things like kimchi and soba noodles, to the fresh produce like squash leaves, radishes, and green onions, everything looked fresh and well stocked. They also had a great selection of meat such as beef bones for broth or even miso for soups and more, plus a dry goods area with several types of rice, cooking extracts, and sauces. One thing that really stood out was the variety of wrappers available for different kinds of dim sum (such as shumai wrappers and bao buns), which can be hard to find in many places. Beyond food, they also carry hair care products, soaps, and kitchen items like plates, bowls, chopsticks, sakè dishes, and soy sauce containers. They even have a nice little baked goods section where you can grab a snack while you shop. Overall, this store really seems to have a bit of everything and is a great place to find both everyday ingredients and specialty items. read more

We had a blast dusting our visit. To give a little background, I used to visit this store several years back when I lived in Florida. And on this trip, I had teenagers in tow. Of course, they went bonkers over being in a true store suited to there. It tastes in Asian food. Let me just start by saying the kids working the register were friendly and conversational with my daughter, so I was appreciative. The stock of dry and frozen foods in this market is very good, including some Filipino, Vietnamese, Japanese and Korean goods and of course a ton of Chinese options. The ramen selection is diverse and I loved the options for durian (fresh and frozen) and fish balls, and the frozen seafood selections were plenty. The reason for the missing stars is that there was a small selection of fresh produce and no fresh fish or meat. We didn't get one, but the boba tea shop in the back of the store looked solid, and there was seating back there. read more

I feel like Jacksonville has had a fast rise in Asian markets lately, which is a good thing! However, most of them are on the other side of town. Luckily, Jax Oriental has been a tried and true option for me. They have everything I need from fresh vegetables, an abundance of different noodles, spices, and seasonings, a lot of my favorite snacks and bakery items. I love trying new things as well. They are always clean and neatly stocked. When checking out, the staff is friendly and efficient. I haven't had the boba since they reopened the little cafe in the back but I plan on trying along with the Korean corndogs. The foodie in me cannot resist! read more

With all the amazing Asian Restaurants in this area I still always find a way to Jax Oriental Market after lunch or dinner to get more to take home. The amount of noodles, ramen, dumplings, sauces, and snacks always brings us back. I love the variety they have with everything too. Can't get most of this stuff anywhere else too. My favorite are for sure the Soup Dumplings they have. Much better then the ones at Trader Joe's. I will say prices can be a little high but I get that for the most part. We have been shopping here since moving to Florida. It has grown to the entire back of the shopping center. They have a comprehensive range of sauces, canned goods, noodles, Asian produce, rice, frozen and refrigerated products, smallwares and beauty skincare and masks. I often get asked where to find something even though most of their customers are Asian. I cannot have dairy so this is my happy place. read more

This was a little out of my way but it really is a great market. They had good price on beef bones and I almost bought one to try my hand at bone broth but I already had crab Rangoon on the menu. I'll add pics of my haul in a minute. I always try to know what I want but the store can be a little overwhelming. I didn't think to take pics while there. I did get fresh Thai basil, fresh chives and fresh Asian celery. I find things are cheaper here than the grocery. I got quite a haul for $50. read more

Great selection of noodles, frozen buns, dim sum and fresh asian veggies and herbs. This store also offers bulk buying which is next door. By the register there are fresh bakery pastries and sale items. Prices are average compared to the surrounding asian grocery off of Beach Blvd. Overall, this store has the better selection of east asian chips and snacks. Newly renovated store! Very spacious and looks cleaner too! It's easier to move around and find things you need to buy. You can find exotic fruits such as Durian, Pomelo and Rambutan at reasonable prices. Their Gailan or Chinese Broccoli is only $2 and it's a lot in 1 pack! My husband loves "Lechon Kawali" (crispy pork belly) and Jax Orental Market is the closest Asian store from our place that sells them! Good thing we are always in the area every week! They also sell boba teas and ice creams with assorted flavors such as Matcha and Ube. I just wish they have a pint size instead of half gallons. It would be great to try different flavors! The store is really a must visit especially if you're planning on cooking Asian foods! They have almost everything! Now if only they will sell cooked "balut" too! Lol! read more

What a fun store! So many things to see and if you are a bit adventurous to try out. Every time I come here I end up buying way more stuff I came in for. You can get all the ingredients to cook authentic Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai or whatever style of Asian food you might crave. Even if you just want a instant soup, they have so many options that it is worth trying something new every time. They have improved a lot since expending, so more stars for them. Since the expansion you can find more Asian goods and products, and they seem to carry more brands as well. Even then, I feel like they can carry a bit more fresh produce; hopefully that changes in the future. Ordering banh mi and beverages is different now; you order through the tablet at the counter and pay right there. Then you can wait while you order is being prepared or go about shopping and come back. There are a couple of chairs and tables too if you want to sit and enjoy your little meal. Service is still meh, maybe slightly better than it was before. Prices are still a bit higher as compared to other Asian stores in the same area, but now you can find more products here since they are now bigger. read more

I've been coming here for the past four years, ever since my family moved to this side of town. I really like that it's right across from the neighborhood Wal-Mart, which makes my grocery trip much more convenient. This little place located in a small shopping center next to Peony Chinese restaurant. I also like that I could park right in front of the store since they have a few spots reserved. The inside of this little Asian market is very well organized. The fresh produce is on the left, seasonings, dried noodles etc. are in the middle and the right is where you can find fresh meat as well as frozen dim-sum, sausages etc. They also have fresh sugar cane drinks, boba tea and sandwiches in the back (I haven't tried those yet, but I will one of these days). They also have fresh -ish Asian pastries and sometimes roasted duck as well as Asian fruits right in the front of the entrance, by the door. The cashiers are pretty quick and very helpful if you need help to find something. They always have several girls at the register to avoid long wait line since the place is not that big. There are miniature carts and baskets in the front by the door, which is nice when I buy a lot of groceries. I like coming here to buy all of the Asian stuff that I cook/eat weekly; because, the prices are reasonable, the place is well kept and clean. read more

My wife and I have been going to this store for several years , spending between 200 to 400 a month. Me and my wife are in our sixties. I just wanted everyone to know that this place is not a very friendly place to do business with. The owner or inventory manager doesn't care if you shop at this store or not. She is very disrespectful and give the impression that if you ask her for help, she wouldn't care if you bought something at the store or not. She was very disrespectful to my wife ignoring her when asking her where items were. We are now taking our business to a clean and friendly store on St. John's Bluff. Very clean store and friendly. The store has all Asian food and spices you want. You'll see just how disrespectful the inventory lady is when you ask her a question. She'll act like you don't exist. read more

Best place in Mandarin to get Asian groceries. They have all sorts of imported foods from canned and packaged to frozen and fresh. They even have a little deli the back area for prepared food and juices, smoothies, and boba. They have it all - Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and probably even more. I absolutely love Jax Oriental Market. It's like the Whole Foods of asian markets in Jacksonville. Everything is pristine and the employees are very helpful. The have a small but awesome produce section, tons of ingredients that fill the aisles which will help you create your asian recipes at home. There is also a small kitchen section in the back, along with a grab and go asian bakery and ready to eat things too. I have never gotten their boba of bahmi sandwiches, but I want to return to try them! This market is out of the way for me, but I love to come and stock up when I'm in the area. If you are looking for an asian ingredient to complete your recipe, this place will probably have it! read more

Not a bad spot...probably the best in Jacksonville tbh. Veggies are super fresh and clean and the store doesn't have a typical "smelly" scent like other stores. Prices are fair. One word of caution is buying the "you choy" -- while it's extremely clean and inexpensive (typically 0.99 for a large bag) it seems to have been washed with a soap or detergent that you can't really shake off the vegetable even after rinsing thoroughly...as a result you end up with a soapy-tasting veggie there. Had to throw out two bags as a result. I guess you get what you pay for.... Highly recommend the bean leaf (pea shoots) and the gai Lan though. read more

The owners here are so snobby and rude I couldn't believe it and I'm one of their people. They talk in Chinese rudely about their customers and the prices are outrageous for products that usually they get much cheaper. They are making a killing. I'm not a fan. Eating lunch in the wide open around customers and not helping them is plain obnoxious. I needed some sauces and this place was what showed up on yelp but I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I really liked this store. The store was huge inside. They had just a little bit of everything. I bought several things, but the sign out front caught my eye: Boba Teas. As I got closer to the door, I saw a sign that made me very happy. It said:boba teas are BOGO on Saturdays and Sundays! So, I bought two. I bought some chili sauce, duck sauce, that strange looking fruit that is so good(I forget the name). The young lady who made my teas was very polite and refreshing and the same with the Cashier as well. Politeness and kindness goes a long ways with me. I left very happy. Being the offspring of a European Dad and Eurasian Mum, I grew up exposed to a huge variety of foods and cultures and therefore there are some foods and products that will always resonate with me, tapping into appetites and habits formed in my childhood. Having relocated 4k miles from everything I know I'm now well out of my comfort zone and usual stomping grounds, so The Hublet has been very supportive of my move to Jacksonville FL and goes out of his way to help me adjust. To that end, on a Sunday afternoon he drove us to the Jax Oriental Market on St. Augustine Road where he felt confident that I could find products I know and love. To their credit, since I first visited them they've made gradual improvements and changes to their store layout, but on that first visit it was a delightful maze of almost uncomfortably narrow aisles and shelves overflowing with Asian goods. They stock a great range of the funky-tasting shrimp chips that are one of my guilty pleasures (open the bag and it smells like the worst type of unwashed socks, however after munching a few of the chips you won't be able to stop yourself), they have sauces, oils, curry mixes, pickles, exotic canned fruits, a fantastic frozen and chilled section, a superb range of Chinese sausages (both with and without MSG) and all sorts of hard-to-find Asian vegetables and fruits. They also carry a great range of chili sauces, powder and paste marinades, a fantastic selection of no-carb Shirataki noodles and at the back of the store they have some great kitchenware options Their produce selection is fantastic, and they are one of the few stores I've found that stock Custard Apples/Sugar Apples and the stinky Durian fruit when in season, and as The Hublet loves to cook Thai food, he's overjoyed that here he can always find the elusive Thai eggplants that are integral to some of his dishes. The staff are friendly and approachable, the store carries a fantastic range of Asian products and if they don't have what you want, they can tell you when it will next be in stock. Make sure you check out their homemade food options near the checkout as you'll always find an unusual new snacks to try. With the recently renovated store layout and well-lit, well-stocked shelves, shopping here is an even greater pleasure and I recommend you visit and explore the aisles and dare yourself to try something different. read more

This is a cool market!! There is so many different food items in here I didnt even know where to start. I just kinda wondered around looking at all these different things I have never seen before. This is the place to go for any Asian food items you would need, not even just food there was alot of things in here. Some things that stood out, they had racks with bakery items on it, assorted pastries, breads with different things baked into them, peanut bread?...I grabbed a few different ones to try and they were delicious, good soft sweet buns! ;) They have good prices on fruits and veggies, and they carry more unusual produce (durian, anyone!) They also have a little counter that sells prepared foods, and boba tea...I did not love the Boba tea, but this is personal preference. read more

I am SO glad I found this market! I had gone to 2 other ones that were ok but just wasn't what I was looking for. They each had their merits but many shortcomings. However, Jax Oriental Market hit the nail on the head for me. I don't get the lower ratings quite honestly. I will say service is a little indifferent depending who you ask. But I asked a worker for something and had a nice answer back. The girl at check out was very nice. My *only* issue was that no one came to the back food service when I rang the bell. I wanted a tea and a banh mi. Oh well. The one other issue was the smaller sizes of kimchi available. At least it is home made, but it was pricey; something like $6+ for a quart size. I just bought a gallon for $10 somewhere else. Sadly, it's one of the other locations I'm not keen on. Maybe I will have to make my own or just take the extra trip to the other place for the kimchi. Anyways, this place got 5 stars bc it is clean, packed with all the goodies you need for Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino cooking. I love that they carry my favorite Filipino spiced vinegar! The veggies looked really fresh. They have asian chives, okra, Thai red/green chili peppers, and kabocha (a pumpkin) that you can buy whole or already cut. Buy already cut, bc they are very hard to cut! They have so many different brands of sauces and noodles. They have like, 4 fridge/freezers packed with all sorts of buns, fish, noodles, dumplings, tofu, drinks, etc. I only wish they stocked Little korean anchovies for soups. They also don't sell the korean glass noodles (sweet potato). But I won't split hairs. They also have very good XO sauce. It's not cheap, but the good ones aren't. This is now my go-to asian market! And I'm glad it's not too far from me! Now if we could just get a place that sold everything so I didn't have to go to 2-3 different stores for all my ingredients! read more

Been going here for years. Customer service is always bad. Their staff always acts like they're doing us a favor when you speak to them. This has happened consistently but we go back because it's the the best place in town and located near us. It was never so bad that I felt like I needed to write a review. That changed today when the cashier was ringing us up. Because the counter space is limited, as soon as the items are in a bag, we put them back in the cart. One of the items fell out of the plastic bag. The cashier asked "are you buying that" I was confused at the question so I asked him to repeat and he pointed at the $5 bag of noodles and asked in a very accusatory manner "are you buying that". I was so taken aback that I said I wasn't trying to steal from them. I also said there was no reason for him to be rude to which he snapped back at me, I wasn't being rude. The he walked off. No apology, no acknowledgement. There were a dozen ways he could have asked that question and handled the situation better. Actually nobody from the store apologized for his rude behavior. Sigh... I really wanted to support an Asian business, and my expectations are really minimum, please treat me with respect and I will also be respectful. read more

My tradition after a meal at Asian Peony Bistro is sauntering my way to Jax Oriental, a great way to burn what calories I have consumed to buy more yummy snack'licious caloric goodness for intake during a study break. Juxtaposed next to an ever seemingly neglected liquor store, Jax Oriental Market has been an anchor to this shopping center for the past few years. Its interior is a delight to the eyes. The store's aisles are shelved with organized varieties all within confined spaces. However, it's, I think one of the better places within Jax that offers the best for SE Asian & chinese groceries, considering the owners are chinese. They use their limiting spaces wisely with stacks, on stacks, on stacks of the U.N of noodles. Noodles from VN, China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, etc. Other aisles offer loads of eye candy, literally & metaphorically, of colorful candies, cookies, nutty snacks,chips, & drinks. All which made me reminisced of my childhood's adventures to the grocery store with my mum to buy yan-yans. If you don't know what this cookie stick with chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla dip is, you've been sheltered to long my amigo. Oh my digressions! I better stay focused. There are rows of condiments & a sea of soy sauce, sake, rice wine, & fish sauces; as far as the eyes can see. You can definitely get lost trying to decide which to buy. They have decent customer service & are very clean relative to the other markets in town. Initially they were a lot smaller a few years back. They've expanded at least since 1.5 yrs ago. I love that they added more kitchen accessories & cutlery. Plus, they've turned their meat department into a boba outpost. But they are pretty expensive relative to other boba shops, but you pay for convenience. Also, they offer taro filled sesame sweet balls & honey coated fried mochi. Get them early on Sat. or Sun since they're freshly made & are still crispy. Tried the fried Mochi for the first time today. The honey crisp exterior was accompanied with glutinous chewy soft center. It was a perfect coupling of the two textures. They're easy to eat since they're skewered for easy consumption. It served as a great dessert to my lunch. They may not offer a multitude of produce but what they lack, they make up in freshness & organization. Plus, you won't find an expired item since the turnover is high & they're good at replenishing sold out items. Side note, one of the business owners of Peony Asian Bistro is also co-owners to Jax Oriental. Must I delineate a more detailed reason to show you this is a great shop for Asian goods? read more
