I didn't interact with any employees since this location seems to offer more self-checkout options, but the shopping experience was quick and efficient. This store appears to serve many of the local seniors in the area, so I was a little surprised there weren't more traditional checkout lanes available. Still, everyone seemed to be getting through smoothly. Overall, I enjoy shopping at this Safeway because it's easy to get in, grab what I need, and get back on my way. Went in to get some red delicious apples they were out, went to get a yellow squash they were out except for organic. So I got an organic one and a green squash which was not organic, the peanut shelf was very bare. I went to get out and told the checker the yellow squash is organic but the green one was not. She charged me for organic on both after I told her they were different. Went to customer service where she refunded me my money and was very polite. Where is management in this store. Safeway is convenient to shop but I guess I'll drive further to Fry's or Trader Joe's from now on. read more

I live right around the corner and have tried to give this store so many chances, but it's gotten to the point where it's just hostile. The staff here treat people of color and queer customers differently -- plain and simple. If you're either and don't read the rest of this review -- to sum it up, give your business elsewhere. Most of the employees are rude, short, or act like customers are inconveniencing them. There are a couple decent people who actually seem to care -- Hannah is the only name I remember right now. She's always friendly, smiling, and professional, and among the handful of staff who actually make the store tolerable at times. She's the one bright spot in this entire store and a role model for how the rest of the staff (especially Linda) should behave. Linda has been the source of multiple problems, but what happened today was beyond unacceptable. My boyfriend and I went in to grab a bottle of wine -- both showed our IDs (as we've done countless times before, even with Linda), and we paid with our joint card. After the transaction went through and the receipt printed, Linda suddenly tried to snatch the wine away and started yelling at us in front of other customers because he had tapped to pay instead of me. The card is joint, both our names are on it, and we both showed valid IDs -- there was absolutely no issue except the one she decided to make up on the spot. She made a total scene, trying to stop us from leaving like we'd done something wrong. It was humiliating, and everyone around was staring. I've never experienced anything so unnecessary and blatantly discriminatory in a grocery store. If Linda wants to take her job so seriously, maybe she should move to produce and deal with the moldy fruit and rotten vegetables that sit on the shelves here instead of harassing paying customers. It's gross. I've seen moldy strawberries, carrots, and brown lettuce more than once, and judging by other reviews, I'm not the only one. This store is a joke -- rude employees, disgusting produce, and management that clearly doesn't care about basic professionalism. Safeway corporate should be embarrassed to have their name on this location. If you want a normal shopping experience where you're treated like a human being, go to Aldi down the street instead. The cheese section delivered for us. They had these little miniature cheese charcuterie kits. The employee that helped us was very friendly. So the surrounding area isn't so great but the chesse area looks classy enough. Safeway isn't usually known for this cheese selection but I was glad I found it when I did. I went to pick up a few items yesterday afternoon, and as I was trying to check out, there was an elderly woman in front of me asking about cash back. The younger ladies at checkout and bagging were incredibly dismissive and talked over her to each other about some concert. When she continued to ask about it, the clerk told her to just tap her card, and when she did, it did not give her the option to get cash back. When she asked again, they said she had to buy something new before shuffling her off. The entire time they were incredibly dismissive of her while talking to each other. For the amount of money we spend to purchase food in your store, could you please HIRE friendly cashiers. This morning Taylor was my cashier, not sure if he was feeling sick, grieving a loss of some sort or is just an unhappy camper. He should not be customer facing if he cannot muster up a smile, a simple greeting or eye contact at the very minimum. We popped in for a couple of items & LOVE your covered parking! Your selection of salad makings is wonderful, lots of fruit platters as well. What really left a lasting impression was Carla. We were next in the checkout line and she called us over & opened a checkstand ONLY so we didn't have to wait. She was friendly & we I enjoyed talking with her. If we were at Frys, Walmart, Target.. we would still be standing in line, waiting to be checked out! And, we got some great sales! Everyone thinks Safeway is more expensive, it's not. This location is the closest to where I live. Always stocked up, clean and a good location. I love the bakery section of Safeway they have great selection. They have fresh bakes and good variety of bread and bagels. Their fresh produce is a little expensive but the quality is good. There's a Starbucks inside and have their own make your salad and meal set up. I am a fan of their tomato soup. Customer service is friendly and love visiting their store. read more

I strive to maintain consistency in my grocery shopping habits at this location, so I've been reviewing my receipts from last year and comparing them to my recent purchases. In June 2023, the total cost for the same items I purchased was $48. However, my most recent receipt for those same items shows a total of $102. The prices at this Safeway are exorbitant and the quality of their produce is poor, as it barely lasts 3-4 days. I recommend visiting Aldi, which is just down the street, as their produce is one-third the cost of Safeway's. Although it also only lasts a few days, you can save yourself some money. I've noticed that the management and employees don't seem very attentive. It can be frustrating when I need help at the self-checkout and the staff member seems really unhappy and responds with attitude. It makes me feel like I'm being judged for asking for assistance. I would consider myself a regular customer at this location usually I frequent THIS location for everything grocery-wise thing I need. Today I had an experience with A customer service manager that LITERALLY laughed at me after I attempted to collect my refund on the 6, 5gal jugs that were PRIMO branded (same as the return machine) the machine is broken didn't dispense the tickets I was told they were aware of this from a cashier. As soon as I stepped in front of the deli window he welcomed me with a hello and smile instead of ignoring like other places do. The service has gone downhill and the employees here really don't appear to care to be here. Poor rating based on their customer service. Cashiers, baggers ignore you. Has gotten worse over the past year. Exception is the bakery, which has very nice ladies. Prices Here seem higher than nearby Fry's. There don't seem to be any specials, and on holidays, I think they raise their prices. Thank you for telling me several times that I should go to the regular check out in the future when I have discounted items with 50% off coupons. What would have been nice would have been had you nicely said "Here, let me take care of that for you." Then you might have suggested that it would be easier in the future to take such items to the regular check out. You were rude and then had the gall to say "You're welcome!" as I left. It is a good store with a wide selection of products. My beef... is Precisely That... The beef. T-bone steaks are bone-in cut of meat and have two sides to them. Safeway on Alma School Chandler are beef-rip-offs, in my view. They do not even seem to know what either a T-bone steak or a New York steak IS! They take T-bone steaks and cut off the "soft side"... leaving the tough side there with the bone-in and package them up and call it New York steak, and put the same price on it as Porterhouse. Then they discount it to try to make you think you got a good deal. Do they think we were born yesterday and do not know what a NY steak looks like? It has to be non-union labor! No self-respecting member of Amalgamated Meat-Cutters would try that kind of product mis-representatuion in my view... unless somehow forced to do so. Welcome to Arizona - Scab State. It's as good as any other market. Short distance from home, convenient. There staff are pleasant and helpful.

This location is very convenient and is a fairly larger store and has a pharmacy inside which is handy. The produce is usually fresh. The prices are slightly higher than you would find at any local Fry's or Winco. The thing about this location is that the check-out lines are very long! They used to have these convenient self check out lines, but not anymore. Was the convenience of being able to check yourself out quickly too much to ask? In other stores, you see more self check out lines rather than less. Please bring back the self check out lines so we don't have to wait as much. read more

I went to Safeway for the first time recently and thought it was great. I like that they have a large selection of natural foods that are vegan, vegetarian and lower in fat. The store is large and they have an amazing selection of gefilte fish -- the largest I've seen in any grocery store and I've lived all over the world. The international section was impressive. The staff was friendly and even helped me fill out my reward card application. The aisles are wide and the store is bright. They have competitive prices as well. The reason I took off one star is because my raspberries had mold on them which I didn't notice until I got home. Other than that, I'd give it five stars. read more

My first visit to a Safeway since leaving New England. A pretty good experience overall. They were celebrating a remodel and having quite a busy Saturday. I asked a very tall woman (we're talking WNBA stature) with an overlong and sparkly rhinestone belt which way to the bakery. She decided the best thing was to escort us to the bakery. I have been escorted off the premises, I have been escorted to the restroom, I have even been "...warned and sent, copy, over." But I have never been escorted to the bakery. We opted to pass on the croissant we came in for since they only sell them in bunches. Instead we picked up some doughnuts and stopped at Starbucks on the way out. The doughnuts were discounted but only if you have a Safeway card. The clerk refused to scan a generic card or give the discount unless I could provide my info to be in the system. Oh yea, I remember why I quit going to Safeway. The woman behind us offered her number so that we could get the discount. Safeway remains one of the bottom dwelling grocery chains in my esteem. read more
