The worst Safeway I've ever been to. More workers next to the "self checkout"(who can't approve alcohol purchase) than actually on the register ringing people up. I haven't been to this location for a while but today I was reminded why.. Dania and another worker who was sweeping across from her the entire time I shopped were so rude. I had a question while at self check out and when I asked for help, I apologize for interrupting their conversation because her friend made some comment in Spanish and laughed then Dania came over annoyed without even letting me ask my question.. and I noticed she was the front end manager. I went to buy some ice cream cause the app has it on sale and I added on my Safeway account when I do the check out it didn't show up I told the lady Heidi it's on sale and I showed her the item I added on my phone and told her. Where the price it's she was like ok but you don't have to give me attitude.I was like what the hell?! Love this Safeway . The reason I like this Safeway is because of the overall appearance of the store. You go in see nice clean carts. Soup display and hot foods first look so delicious . All you have to do is choose. This sounds easy but it's not , they also have sushi. Store bought sushi what am I saying. Try it it's not bad. It fills a craving if you cannot or do not have the time to go into a sushi restaurant or bar. Basic rolls and specials rolls are kept cold and fresh. Only down part is some of the homeless are not the best. Parking is also tight. Overall this is one of the better Safeway s. Nice selection of oriental products. read more

All I have to say is Dana the manager has no respect for her customers. I said it to her, and I'm gonna write it on here. It's all about customer service! The customer is always right and you need to treat them with respect. So if a customer calls and complains and says why do you guys have these items on your grocery apps (shipt and Instacart) yet they are listed as out of stock. What was the point of ordering these items a day before if they were ALLLLL going to to be out of stock??? Again, Isn't the grocery store supposed to stock items late in the evening or very early in the morning? The items were actually to be delivered between 9 and 11am. So you're gonna tell me every single one of those items and their back up items were sold out within a matter of 4-6 hours? If that's the case, then Safeway needs to do a much better job of stocking their items or purchasing items that are going to last throughout the day and not clean out by 10:15 AM. I'm not talking about Clorox wipes or water bottles. I'm talking about your cheap ass items like lemon juice and granola and cheese enchiladas. Which by the way those items are STILL listed on Shipt and Instacart even though Safeway currently does not have them at this time which is now 11:07 AM. I've gone ahead and attached pictures for you. Like I said, it's now 11:08AM and these items are still listed on their site, but in reality they are out of stock and so are their back ups! Again, how is it that out of 3 of my items and their back up items are out of stock. Yet, again, still listed. This is not the first time and this is not the second time that this Safeway has not updated their items which are low on stock or not in stock. Do your job Dana! Talk to your Safeway staff and Instacart and shipt and get your stuff together! Update them! Not everybody can drive and not everybody has a job like you and some have to rely on other people and other things and the cheapest possible items to eat. With that said, Westlake Safeway and the owners, do your job! Just a reminder, don't forget Dana, It's all about customer service! You might wanna understand that and you might want to learn that. Because I have no problem making a complaint against you and the way you spoke to me as your customer. When your customers are upset, you don't turn around and say you're not gonna listen anymore. You sit there, you listen, and you apologize to your current customer for not having items available and and ask them how you can best support them. Now that is how you show that you are a good manager! Trust me, I may not have been a manager at a grocery store, but I've run some other places and it's all, and always will be about customer service get it straight! UPDATE: I called Shipt to inform them about Safeway and how they still have items listed even though they are out of stock. Since Safeway is not a grocery store that's listed all around the USA, unfortunately shipped is unable to take it off their grocery list. So Safeway, do your job and connect with Shipt and or Instacart and let them know your items are unavailable. It is very unprofessional and very annoying. Like I said before, this is not the first time and this is not the second time. Please do your job! Thank you, Dawn for responding to me. However, I already connected with you and you were disrespectful and instead of maybe trying to help me because half of your items were not there, you had the audacity to turn around and tell me that you were going to stop talking to me. my FAVORITE Safeway, not only do they have a large selection of everything, their CUSTOMER SERVICE is TOPS, I have shopped at the one on Market & Church in SF, the one on Fruitvale near Dimond Park in East Oakland and the ones on Webster in SF and College Avenue in North Oakland/Rockridge and the one at Rockridge(which runs a close second in customer service) but Westlake has the friendliest customer service people around and I remember when this Safeway at Westlake used to be open 24 hours, but they now have gourmet sections you could die for... LOVE LOVE LOVE this store. Also when you have such friendly service from Kathalina, Merlina, Hanan, Bernette, Logan, Nancy, Rome, Francis, etc.. Oh, DC Safeway, apparently the only grocery store worth going to near my buddy's pad. Which is a shame, because it isn't that great. I've come here at different times throughout the day and it always appears that there aren't enough cashiers, or they're just slow. It is kind of dirty inside, too. The customers contribute to that, because I've seen packages of raw chicken just sitting around where the crackers are, but it seems that the employees just don't care too much. But whatever, it is cheaper than going to a convenience store, even if parking there is a little dicey. read more

I love coming to this Safeway because it's literally minutes away from my house and it has ample parking space. Located in the plaza of Westlake which can get busy during rush hours so keep that in mind. I also love coming here because they have self check out! I usually come here to get basic groceries like chips, condiments, can foods, ice cream and bread. I've ran out of Morton salt and been coming here multiple times to try get it and still the shelf is empty which is annoying. However, lately I've been really into uncrustables smuckers PBJ which they sell a box of 15 for only 10 bucks! Got a box for me and my coworker to enjoy while at work! Yummy! read more

I shop here often - they have a decent selection of food & drinks (not the best for scotch) and the seafood is always fresh! They make really good sandwiches too but I do not like the fact that they do not wrap the foods in the deli because I have seen things like the chicken salad have a dry top layer (from the air) which I think is nasty...I don't buy things that look old....even if I know it is just from the air hitting it in the cooler for a few hrs. Also I do not like the fact they are not 24hrs but aside that no big complaints. 3 Stars! read more

All the finer things in life are locked up behind glass here aka: drugs and alcohol. I'm assuming there has been a lot of theft from these aisles in the past - surprising... I always thought Daily City wasn't like that. All those glass doors and locks were sobering today. Everything else seems standard Safeway... with the exception of the bakery Department. Here they sell local Heidi's pies - that is something you won't see in Safeways in the city - at least I haven't noticed them. Also they have donuts till late... don't seem to trash them early evening :) If I want 12 hour old stale donuts I can get them here. Really a great Safeway... just plan an extra 20 minutes to your visit to have somebody walk around with you and unlock the good stuff. read more

This is actually my Safeway of choice! We make a pit stop here whenever we're shopping in the weekends. They have everything in stock, organic milk, sale items, etc. It's a heck of a lot cleaner than the La Playa one in the City. Lots of parking and if you need to go to TJ's they are a walk away. read more

If I could give this place a zero, I would. I was at the deli counter, looking at the stuff behind the glass, out of line. One of the construction workers who was working at Safeway (they're currently remodeling) was visibly upset by this, so I told him that I was sorry and that I wasn't cutting in front of him, just looking at the things behind the glass. He proceeded to cuss me out. I told my husband who told a manager, who disappeared for 20 minutes, then reappeared with the foreman. He told me that the guy had been acting 'funny' all day and upon me becoming more frustrated informed me that they'd promptly fire him. At no point did they ask me who the man was... they didn't see the incident and the guy walked off to the back before I could get the manager. I'm pretty sure they were just blowing me off. The manager basically told me that it wasn't his responsibility since he wasn't the boss of the construction workers. Essentially, this Safeway is by far the worst grocery store I've ever been to. I've been to far nicer Safeways and Vons in San Francisco and in my hometown of SLO, and this whole altercation was so unpleasant that I'm definitely just going to avoid Safeway and hit up Whole Foods from now on. They have FAR better produce and a wider selection anyway. read more

My husband and I are so proud of our Safeway in Westlake Shopping Center! They just opened their first Senior only shopping. Only one door was available to enter thru. There was someone at the door who was checking to make sure only seniors entered. Needless to say many younger people attempted to enter. This is where my Safeway.com order was supposed to be coming from sometime between 6-10 last night, it was a Saturday night. I was waiting and waiting because I had plans. Driver no-showed!!! No phone call no email. Waited on hold this morning for 3 hours to find out what happened. Finally they call this store and said apparently the drivers truck broke down but never bothered to notify me, not even this morning when they said they saw the order still there or while I was on hold for three hours. This is by far the worst grocery store I been to in the Bay Area. The late night line is ridiculous. I used to come here often around 11pm and it's not uncommon to see only 2 checkers open with 15+ people waiting each line. The eating area looks like it has never seen a mop or cleaning materials. The outside tables definitely doesn't get cleaned since I seen week old bird droppings on them. The customer service here is useless. store 3031 in daly city, ca at westlake mall to buy some fruit. i got in line and melvin v. was the cashier "working" this line. while waiting melvin carried himself with a pubescent very big ego attitude. he was having a conversation in spanish with the store security guard which their topic was not work related yet instead it was tacky gossip and bad mouthing about different customers and what they were wearing. when it was my turn he started ringing me up and i said, "hello, how ya doing?" which he muffled a word but never looked up at me. i asked him, "what did you say?" he ignored me so i kept repeating my question until he just stated my total while completely ignoring me and acting like i was not there. this was the worst experience i have ever had in all my 44 years alive and all my years shopping in your stores! this kid has zero integrity, zero gratitude for his job and a complete liability to your company! i have never walked into a store happy to walk out hating safeway brand and albertsons with all my might. i did not deserve that and am greatly bothered you find this acceptable for your staff and the security you hire. not right! not good business practises. read more

I have been going to this Safeway since 1997 and now here in 2017 I have found it necessary to state that this Safeway has dramatically gone down hill. First when you arrive there are never any carts to grab to shop with. You have to either wait for an employee to gather carts that are all over the parking lot or hope someone has put their groceries into their car and is returning the cart that you can use. Getting help inside this Safeway also is a test in patience. I stood at the counter for about ten minutes to get help getting some food and as I waiting for ten minutes there were people right there who looked directly at me. None of them said "hold on we will be right with you" I was not acknowledged until a lady came out from the back and finally helped me. One particular row in this Safeway is also an endurance test. If you want mouthwash, razors or deodorant you have to press a button and wait for someone to come and assist you. More often than not you have to wait sometimes up to fifteen minutes for someone who works at the store to unlock the cabinet so you can get what you need. It seems to me that if someone attempts to steal something an alarm would ring once the person leaves the store but I guess not. Also before The Safeway opens it would seem to me that the employees would stock the shelves with food and produce so when you're shopping and need to get something there isn't a clerk stocking the area. This occurs every time I shop at this Safeway the clerks are stocking shelves or putting out produce instead of doing this before the store opens. Finally the check out machines are a disaster. Every time I use my debit card it fails to read my card and I have to insert my card several times and then finally after it fails to work I have to swipe my card sometimes several times before it works and also when the store gets busy they don't have enough check out clerks. These issues seem to be an issue of bad management and they need to be addressed. I have been going to this Safeway for twenty years and just in the last year it has become a terrible place to shop. Please get your act together and address these issues. read more

He walks and takes his sweet time while everyone is waiting. Apparently he needs an approval for something. And of course the manager takes her sweet time. While waiting, I could be home already. If I could I would rate the customer service negative 5 stars. It's a shame I have to give 1 star. I went to this location because it's close to where I reside. Well that's a mistake. I'll drive the extra mile to go to Lucky, Pacific Super, Target and so on. Or even wait for other stores to open. They really Need to work on their customer-service because it's horrible. This lady name Nora at the register 11 was very rude. Well register 11 had it's light on and she was not there. She walks by and just looks at me and walks to register 7. I thought she was a customer because she didn't have a uniform on. I waited for a few minutes then I walked to register 7and asked if 11 was open. She looks and said yes. I replied "oh, nobody is there." So I walk back and waited again. Nora walks to register 11 and doesn't say a word. No sorry for the wait or hello or thank you for waiting, nothing at all. She scans my items and stood there. She didn't give me the total. I had to look for myself. I gave her my money and she gave me my change. She still didn't say anything. I took my change and said you're welcome. Usually they say "thank you for shopping at ..." This happened between 11:15pm to 11:25pm. Hopefully they have a camera facing that register so they can use it to show what NOT to do regarding customer service. read more

I don't usually give reviews if they're gonna be negative but my last experience at this Safeway made me break that rule. I came here a few days ago and the cashier was so slow at helping the customer ahead of me out. She seemed either new or just poorly trained. After taking almost 15 minutes to help the lady in front of me with what was maybe a dozen items, she finally began ringing me up. The entire time she was talking to her coworkers, asking about whether an Amazon package was dropped off for her, literally stopping in the middle of helping me out to turn around and talk to her coworker (who was ringing another customer up in the next aisle over) and taking her sweet time like i didn't just wait 15 minutes for her to finish with a single customer. After I got home I discovered that she had left on one of my items I had paid for. On top of this, the person working the meat counter gave me 8 chicken wings, ALL LEGS. Why bother asking if I wanted a mix if you're going to just give me all legs? This Safeway has a good selection so I won't give it 1 star, but the employees could use better training and/or management. read more

Last time I was at this Safeway was two years ago or so. They have renovated the inside and outside of this Safeway just like the other newer looking ones and it looks really nice now compared to how it was before. Parking still sucks here which is the one thing I don't like about this location. One thing I noticed is that was new is they now have a self check out which they didn't before but is unorganized due to everyone trying to hop on any self check out stand that's freely available when it's not their turn. This location still has the little Wells Fargo branch inside as well. It is still crowded at this Safeway possibly due to the fact that it is fairly close to SFSU and neighborhoods area around the Westlake plaza. read more

Biggest Safeway in the area. Has everything you need, however, half of it is locked up. You have to press a buzzer and wait for someone to open the cabinets for you to grab an item. This often takes a long time, and once an employee comes to open the cabinet, they seem very unhappy to do so. Also, the lines are long and the cashiers are always so so slow. Girlfriend and I came right before closing and security guard was on a "FaceTime call" with his camera held up directly facing us. As we passed by he put his phone down and as soon I turn around there he is again with phone camera recording. As we're leaving he then wants to position himself at the exit/entrance again with his phone out in a weird position facing us. Sad to say that their security guard is there for other reasons. Overall, I like this Safeway. Better than the scummy ones in SF but not as good as suburban ones in the peninsula. The GOOD: They have some good people, wish I knew the names but I generally do self check-out. Good variety of products I can count on. The BAD: Ordered curbside pick-up and when I arrived, they told me they ran-out of all my stuff. WTF!!! Took forever too. Shouldn't someone tell me via email, text, etc before I arrive? I had a scheduled appointment time and ordered 2 days in advance. When I go late hours after 9pm to avoid packed parking lot and crowds during Covid, they are stocking the shelves. This doesn't bother me but one of the stockers came out of the aisle and blocked my way. He stood there, stared at me like I was an idiot, stood there, stood there, stood there and finally motioned with his arm he was trying to make a U turn. This is in the front of the store where the check out stand is. I go 2-days later and the same stock person comes out of the aisle sees me coming hurries, almost hits me but rushes past me. Two words: Understaffed and Long Lines Be prepared to wait if you come here past 3pm and onward because the lines will be extremely long. Self checkout line gets very long as well. Products wise they have a wide selection and a good amount of stock. You can save ALOT of money if you sign up for the club card and they do offer alot of great deals every week. Their veggies and produce are ok. Sometimes they don't stock certain items for a while. I went to the store to get ginger and it was moldy. They had the same moldy ginger for about two weeks till they restocked it. Overall it is an okay store with a wide variety of items, but just very long lines. read more

Don't trust them for doing a pick up order. They canceled my order. Don't bother calling them to try and reschedule. Had to call twice waiting over an hour each time to get live human. They close at a certain time and don't tell you until you're disconnected. Live human says they can't do anything. Know things are crazy but Safeway is making a ton of money right now. It is only fair to reschedule what you cancel. They won't even do that. Go somewhere else. System requires one star to post but they don't deserve that. read more
