Attention to People of Color! On April 8, 2025, I experienced racial profiling at this Safeway location after being a loyal customer for two years and spending thousands of dollars here. The incident occurred simply because I didn't have a shopping cart. When I confronted one of the individuals who had been watching me, he had no response and appeared flabbergasted that I would bring it up. Even the managers seemed unbothered. This behavior is unacceptable. Additionally, the Middle Eastern man who is often at the Customer Service desk seems to be a part of the problem. I am writing to formally express my deep disappointment and concern regarding a disturbing and unacceptable experience I had at Safeway location 403 Redland Blvd. on the evening of April 28, 2025, at approximately 7:36 PM at the self-checkout area. While my visit started off positively--with a very kind and helpful young man at the meat deli who went above and beyond to assist me despite not having the poultry I initially wanted, but I ended up purchasing the mango chicken which he suggested, but Unfortunately I left the store feeling humiliated, shaken, and completely disrespected due to the behavior of an employee named Daila V. As I was checking out, I entered the phone number I typically use, and the self-checkout machine repeated the prompt loudly. Almost immediately, Daila V approached and, in an extremely condescending tone, loudly asked, "WHAT DID YOU DO?" in front of other customers. Her tone was aggressive, and I was instantly embarrassed. Rather than assisting in a calm and respectful manner, she inserted a key into the machine and walked away without saying a word or confirming that the issue was resolved. When the machine again requested my phone number, I nervously tried again, feeling intimidated by Daila's previous interaction. I gently informed her that it happened again, hoping for help--not hostility. Instead, she told me twice to "relax" in a dismissive tone. When I calmly questioned why she was saying that, she responded by raising her voice and saying, "I don't know why you're mad at me." She was standing uncomfortably close to me, towering over me, speaking in a raised voice while customers were present. This was beyond unprofessional--it was intimidating and borderline threatening. As I proceeded to leave, Daila stood in the center of the walkway, staring at me intensely before sarcastically saying, "Have a good night," in a way that was clearly meant to provoke. I left the store feeling completely shaken. In my distress, I even approached a customer wearing a polo shirt, hoping he was an employee, just so I could ask for a manager's name. That's how desperate I was for help. The most troubling part of all this is that Daila's behavior overshadowed the great service I initially received at the deli. What should have been a simple, peaceful shopping trip turned into a traumatizing experience that I am still processing. I filed a complaint with Albertsons Companies, and a professional associate named Dine documented my experience. I now await follow-up from the District Manager and Store Manager Joe Sturm. Let me be clear: I am traumatized by this encounter and deeply disturbed that someone like Daila is allowed to interact with customers. I'm sure this is not her first encounter displaying such unprofessionalism. This is the closest Safeway to me, and it is unreasonable for me to feel anxious or unsafe shopping here due to the actions of a single employee. I'm looking forward to immediate disciplinary action is not taken--such as dismissal. I will have no choice but to explore additional steps and or take this publicly. Please review the surveillance footage from the self-checkout area around 7:36 PM on 4/28/25 to witness this unacceptable behavior for yourself. A swift and serious resolution is expected. I'm lucky enough to have a few different Safeway stores close to me. I stopped off at this location in Kings Farm because it was closest to another store I had to go to. This location has plenty of parking and multiple entrances so it's easy to get in and out of. Overall, this store is good. It's easy to shop at this location. They've got friendly and helpful staff. I can usually find what I want here. The deli is good. Although their fried chicken at this location isn't so great. The breading on the fried chicken is too thick/heavy and hard. Fried chicken at the Fallsgrove location is 1000% better. Last visit had plenty of produce, dairy and meat/seafood. I know a few other stores are having supply chain issues, but most of the Safeways I've been to have been okay so far. read more

I work in King Farm so I frequent this Safeway. My FAVORITE part is their hot wings/hot food bar. Omgosh every time I walk in it smells delectable. My least favorite part about this Safeway is their parking lot. I literally got my bumper smashed in within 15 minutes of being there. No surrounding stores could help with cameras. One of the managers was really rude and seemed to derive pleasure from it a few years ago. It was right after my purse and wallet had been stolen, and the only way I could get cash at the time was to write a check after replacing my driver's license. I had their HQ on the phone. The headquarters was nice but the manager who was on duty was a woman who would not even listen to me at all, and refused to talk to the headquarters office I almost never go to that branch anymore. I hate the fact that one person's nastiness can have that kind of impact on me, but she was extremely disrespectful. This is nice a review as I can give her. I went to Safeway at 7:45am on my way to work on Friday. They had self checkout stations opened and only one cashier at a regular checkout station, who had her light off and two people with very large checkout orders. I went to self checkout to buy Theraflu and soup and rang up the Theraflu first knowing someone would have to come help, due to it being age restricted. Nobody was working self checkout to help. I stood there waiting. Two workers walked right past me and ignored me when I tried to ask for help. I left my order and walked to customer service to ask for help. Nobody was working there either. I tried to just cancel the Theraflu off the order, but again you need assistance. After about 10 minutes, I ended up leaving my entire order because there was barely any workers and the few workers that were there were too busy to even acknowledge that I needed help. I wouldn't recommend going here if you actually want to be able to get groceries. read more

This one's for the Deli only... extremely rude and aggressive behavior, horrible experience...as of now. I started coming to this Safeway a couple of weeks ago and got one of the ready made subs, turkey snd cheese, and headed out. Once I arrived at my destination and unwrapped the sub I found "a ton" of what looked like and tasted like mayo, and two packets of yellow mustard. I had to take the sub apart and scrape off the mayo. I thought nothing of it, I figured maybe that's how they make it or somebody asked or it like that and it got put out or mixed up with the other subs by mistake. That was that. I went back today to do some shopping and picked up another sub and as I was walking past the deli I asked about what the standard amount of mayo they regularly put on the sub and explained what had happened. There were two people behind the counter at the time I walked up and asked the question. One lady insisted adamantly that they never put mayo on the subs only in packets, and when I tried to explain what I saw, felt and tasted myself to which she increased her emphasis and repeated herself as if I didn't know what mayo is. Just then the other lady, very professionally explained to me that that's not how the subs were supposed to be made and that if that was the case it may have been a mistake. As she was doing that, the other lady was still trying to explain how that's not possible. And again the only reason I was asking was because I was purchasing another sub and I wanted to make sure it wasn't full of mayo. So I walked away to the register made my purchases as I was walking out remembered that I needed to get some roast beef also. I walked back to the deli and went to the other side or there was another lady cutting meat and helping another customer, I stood to the side until the other customer walked away and I was looking around to see how they were addressing the queue. So I asked her if there was a number dispenser or the ilk. She turns around and aggressively says "if you just stand there somebody will see you and they will come to help you" And again the same lady that was helpful earlier rushed over hurriedly and answered that no the don't have a numbering system . At this point, being fairly agitated and rightfully so, I asked her what's going on here today and asked to speak with a manager but then decided to remove myself from the situation and reach out later. read more

This store is always busy during the lunch hour. Don't let the self-check out line discourage you. Albeit long, it moves rather quickly because there are several self-check out registers available. The store is generally well stocked -with tons of hot food choices making it the perfect place to grab lunch. There is a Starbucks conveniently located within this Safeway. read more

I love this Safeway. The staff is so nice and helpful. Cashiers are very nice and I love buying their inexpensive roses to decorate my home with. Very clean, has a bank and a Starbucks inside. Not five stars because it takes a New York minute to get anyone at the customer service station and their Western Union is rarely working and when it is, if they are out of forms they do not know how to do it manually without forms. Also, I thought the self check out was for those who have a small amount of items to purchase hence the small bagging area. Lately when I have tried to run in for a forgotten item I have noticed that people with full on monthly supplies of groceries, I am talkin buggys over flowing, are at these self check outs which makes these lines take forever. Perhaps they should fulfill their secret dream of being a Safeway clerk by applying for a job there rather than hold up these lines for those who just forgot sugar. Just a thought. read more

I have visited Safeway @ King Farm many times. Today (2/9/13) is worth a review! Today the store was busy (sat afternoon) however; only 3 checkout lines open, 5+ people some w/full carts of items in each. I got in line preparing to wait. About 10 minutes past-out comes 1, 2, 3 associates opening 3 checkout lines. Yes timing is everything-I appreciate Safeway recognized this today & opened those checkout lines. If there is a grocery store managed any more poorly than this one - it has to be more than 30 miles from an Interstate Highway. I ONLY go here because I live in King Farm and its so close. However, the service is SO SLOW that I have stopped doing weekly shopping here - I go to Giant. One time it took me ALL day and 4 trips to get a prescription correct - including calling them when I discovered they gave me the WRONG medicine. I have waited to check out 20 minutes on a slow weeknight before. Don't waste your time leaving a comment on their website. I have 3 times HOPING to get them to get a better manager - only to get a response in the middle of the night from the other side of the world that didn't offer anything other than an apology and a link to their weekly specials. During lunch the self service check out line is 15-20 people deep. They dont employee enough cashiers. Many dairy items on the shelf are expired. So watch out. Items do not ring right at register Starbucks in the store is severely understaffed. Also expect lines in the morning. Management is very poor in this store. It might seem weird to review a Safeway, but really this one is worth reviewing. This is one of the Safeway closest to my office, and my preferred choice. Parking is easy. Getting in and out is easy. The store overall is pretty clean. Produce is good. Starbucks is actually good. The best part is the actual sales. Strangely, I always find better deals here than any other Safeway close to me. I'm not usually one to 'review' a grocery store because they are pretty much all the same...but I happen to really enjoy going to this store so I thought I would leave them a review. My favorite thing about this store is the beauty section. I know, who the hell goes to the grocery store for Pond's pads? I do, dangit, and this Safeway his lighted shelves in the beauty section which make me just want to spend all my time and money in those 2-3 aisles. The store and aisles as a whole are very spacious. Signs are usually accurate. They have quite a few self checkouts, and as long as people know how to use them (I'm looking at you, lady with 40 produce items) the lines always move really fast. I stopped in today to get a quick bite on my way into work this evening. I saw the Fire Cracker Chicken sandwich which I have had before but not at this Safeway. I should have gone to Fall Grove. How can you mess up something so simple. The Chicken had way to much breading and very salty. Had enough pickles for several sandwiches and the Bun was soggy. I made an attempt to eat it, removed the soggy part of the Bun and some of the salty breading that was just not enough. Horrible. read more

Today while shopping at the Safeway at 403 Redland blvd in Rockville, MD it was crowded without enough cashiers as usual, so the check out lines were long. In the process of trying to quickly unload the groceries onto the conveyor belt and bag my own groceries, one of my empty reusable shopping bags hit the cashier by accident. I apologized for the accident, but the cashier whose name remains unknown, (Red hair and beard) walked out of the store very angry while yelling at me unprofessionally and not in a manner as a customer should be treated. Selenna, the store manager was a couple checkout lanes away when this occurred. Because the angry cashier had left the building and didn't return to finish my checkout another cashier had to finish. Before leaving, I spoke to Selenna the store manager on duty at the time about what had transpired and suggested that if there was any doubt as to what had happened that we review the video footage that they take at each checkout line. Selenna said that would not be necessary and seemed pretty uninterested in taking any action. As I was leaving the store and still on Safeway property at the front of the store, I was confronted by the still very angry cashier who threatened to punch me in the face. This was even after I had apologized to him again while outside. If it were not for his coworker restraining him, I felt he would have executed his threat of violence. Fearing for my safety I called Selenna the store manager, once I got home and expressed my fear for myself and concern about the safety of other customers and recommended the cashier be sent home immediately before a customer was seriously hurt. Again Selenna was uninterested and didn't agree with my sense of urgency. Rather, she wanted me to file a formal written compliant and would let the store director know of the incident at a later date. Because of her inaction I mentioned my next step would be contacting the Montgomery County Police department to file a police report. In the past, my experience with this Safeway has been less than ideal because of the long lines at checkout, employee apathy and being charged the wrong price (Too much) for at least 1 item on every visit. However, I can't continue to shop at a store where I fear for my safety and the store's management is not interested in protecting their customers. The next step will be contacting the Montgomery County Police department to file a police report. read more
