Love the self check out... Easy and fast if you know what you are doing. I come here at least three times a week. Good produce, good selection of other foods, slowly getting more gourmet and healthy inventory (I just saw the added white truffle oil). Prices mediocre. Meat department is surprisingly very good and the butchers are always friendly. They cater to my needs - such as cutting steaks to 1.75" thickness or getting certain meats that are not displayed. read more

Horrible store! Sales old stuff with wrong dates. Will never come here again. Conveniently located but not worth it. Will drive further for better food. On multiple occasions I've brought food from here that has expired way before the date. The last time was milk with the 5/17/17 expiration date but went bad at least on 5/11/17 (maybe sooner) causing my kids to get sick. Just can't trust this store. read more

Although the staff is very nice, EVERY time we go to this place we find something we need that is expired. One time I actually filled up a cart with expired items and brought it to the customer service desk. The manage said there must have been a problem with inventory. That would have been true if not for this happening over the past 4 years. So now when we have to go here, we check dates for everything very carefully, and suggest you do the same. Nice staff is great, but if the food is expired then niceness doesn't matter to our health or wallets. read more

Very decent grocery store. I was new in town and found everything to be neat and clean and organized well. But, being from CA, I spent WAY too much time looking for the wine aisle before I remembered hearing some urban legend long ago that some states on the east coast don't allow the sales of liquor/beer/wine in grocery stores... Everyone just raves about other grocery chains, e.g. Wegmans and Harris Teeter, however. I have found a real appreciation for my local grorcery store, Safeway of King Farm for a few simple reasons: 1. It is always clean; 2. The produce section has a decent variety and always carries as close to fresh produce as you can expect from a chain; and 3. The customer service is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. There is one extra special trait, which gives this store a litte something extra, and that is the customers who come by foot, bike, car or scooter and fill the store with warm smiles and an outward expression of their joy of life and friendship. If you are looking for a little reminder of how a community is suppose to interact along with good ingredients, this is your place. P.S. The seafood counter is not my favorite. read more

I try not to do any grocery shopping at Safeway as much as possible. I only go there for a couple of items that I really need. It is way too pricey and if you want the discounted deals you have to be a member. I am not a fan of supermarket clubs or memberships at all. Prices are too high for the low quality. Produce area had an overwhelming smell of rotten fruit. While picking out the 'best' of bad lemons (aka didn't have mold on them), I found where the smell was coming from. I'm not sure how many days the very moldy grapefruits were sitting there, but I find it hard to believe that no worker could smell or see the problem. I would only go here because it is close to where I live, but I will be driving to Giant from now on. read more

Quite frankly I'm disgusted with the cruelty of this Safeway which is a strong use of word and I don't use it lightly. One of their best workers Sonia has been moved to another store which is about 3 hours away from her home. She is by far one of the best cake decorators I've ever encountered and was the only reason I ever shopped at this store. All of her creations were perfectly crafted and tastes delicious. Her attention to detail and love that she put into her work completely amazed me. This is by far the biggest mistake this store could have made and most definitely has cost them my business. I'd rather drive to the other store to eat her food rather than shop here again. read more

I usually avoid going to Safeway entirely but this one is very clean and one of the better in the area.

10 minute wait for customer assistance at 1 of the 3 (out of 6 total) self-service cashiers that had help signals flashing. The assistant first just turned off the signal at my machine without assisting at all or even asking what the problem was. When he finally came to help he only said he had been working on one of the other busted machines. There was no customer waiting at that machine, but you keep a customer waiting 10 minutes to finish checking out? Another employee walked past and commented but made no effort to assist or get a manager. This was not rush hour and I have never had poor service at any other area Safeway. This will be the last place I shop, only when desperate, in the future. read more

After over 2 and 1/2 years of patronizing this location - minimum 3 times / maximum 7 or 8 times per month, today was the curtain call. Shelves were out of several items, many items were not priced - there were 2 cashier lanes open, with people lined up half way through the aisles. Although 1 or 2 of the cashiers are polite and friendly, many barely respond to a simple 'hello'. Tara, in the pharmacy, is typically rude and lacking in any effort to be genuinely courteous and ........ as has become the expectation - a dreaded and dreadful experience. Mostly fine, but it's really gone downhill in the last six or eight months. The cleanliness isn't nearly as well kept as it was, all the meat is wrapped improperly and leaks, the meat department seems to be of lower quality, items are sometimes sold out, and customer service isn't great. It's a reasonable stop for the captive audience in King Farm, but surely they're seeing a lot of nearby residents, like me, going to the increasing number of better nearby options. read more

I would not recommend this store. They have few check out cashiers on staff, and thus they use a self service check out line. They have one cashier to monitor this line. However, someone can simply push their way ahead of those of us waiting in line, and when I protest, they do nothing. read more

This market is in the King Farm community where I live so I've been here hundreds of times over the past 3 years. Plenty of parking. Average size for a supermarket. They have a Starbucks. They have an 8 register self checkout which is an option I love.. now that's about all the good I have to say. Let's talk about the negatives. First of all, they have got to find a better way to track expiration dates. If you walk through the isles, I bet you can find at least 5 things in each isle that have expired. It's disgusting, I have to carefully check every product just to keep sure. Then there is the staff. OH MY GOD! They basically hire all teenagers, I think there may be 1 or 2 adults. All the teenagers basically just stand around talking to each other. Don't bother to ask them a question, they won't know the answer and they won't try to find the answer, I've experienced that a few times. They usually have this mouth breathing, long haired, Asian kid working the self checkout. Hes usually looking down playing with his phone, he doesn't care if you steal whatever you want. In fact one time I thought something scanned but it hadn't, I put it in my bag and got a warning from the computer, he didn't even bother to check, he just cleared it and let me continue. I did take the item out and scan it properly but it just goes to show you can steal whatever you want if he's working. Plus some of the registers are hard to see if anyone is at them so people will be standing in line while multiple registers are open and he won't bother to let them know. .. now for the deli, it's disgusting, everything is dry, sitting out all day without being rotated with fresh ingredients. The bread is hard and gross. I've tried a few times with their sandwiches and never had a good experience. .. sorry Safeway, please hire either teenagers that actually care about doing a good job or adults who do, but your current staff sucks. read more

I live in King Farm and drive the mile+ to go to another supermarket. Why? This Safeway: understaffed so lines are long; prices higher than nearby Giant; selection mediocre and I am not sure why because have seen better in other Safeway supermarkets. King Farm is a pretty affluent community and am always surprised by the mediocrity of the Safeway it has, given a pretty large and close potential customer base. read more

Worst grocery store in the area!!! Food expires quickly or is already expired because they don't manage inventory properly. Cashier lines always slow because they don't open up enough lines and the self-checkout line is always way too long. Produce is not that great and there's been times where we've seen produce fall on the floor while a staff member is standing right there and not do anything about it. read more

This is one of the worst Safeway's that I have been to. The produce is horrendous. Every time I go there there is moldy bruised items. I have bought salads from here on more than one occasion and ended up having to throw away because they had somehow turned; awful odor. Several items I have seen on the shelves are already expired. I now only shop at Harris Teeter and have never once had a problem with food freshness. Plus, the people who work at Harris Teeter are WAY nicer. read more

I did a little shopping in this Safeway for the first time today and I can honestly that it's a very small and cozy little grocery store. It's clean and organized. It kind of reminded me of Goodings store. The lighting isn't bright like a Walmart. It's kinda nice. You have to get their rewards card to save money and get the deals! They have cards only, not the ones you can attach to your keychain either! But, I got a rewards card and I'm planning to shop here again! read more

I this location better then the just-as-close one off of Shady Grove because I can actually find a parking spot vs the huge strip mall in the other. What I love about Safeway now is that with the new android Safeway app, you can easily guide yourself to a pleasant grocery shopping experience without any anxiety of clipping annoying coupons. the app shows you the weekly/daily specials..a.coupons that you can digitally add to your card instantly... makes you a list of those specials that you need to get an also which isle to find them in. I think its idiot/husband proof as well... lol This location seems to have just everything I need and then some. I at times just like to take my time to see new things, read about it... see what I can do with it when I get home. A lot of things inspire to cook something new whether its a spicy... a vegetable.... good-looking piece of meat... whatever! I can pick up some fresh flowers for $5 on Fridays and they last all week long (ones I have now are still beautiful after two weeks and still going strong (Hydrangeas). The staff is always sweet and helpful, it's my closest go-to grocery shopping. read more

I'm pretty sure Fenny wrote a review for the wrong Safeway...this one doesn't sell wine. There is a wine shop across the street, however. This is just your average Safeway, but I constantly resent it because I'd rather have Harris Teeter as the King Farm grocery store. I'm never impressed with the produce selection here, but that comes along with the quality of the grocery store...it's not Whole Foods and I don't expect it to be. My biggest complaint is that this grocery is completely understaffed. There are always long lines with the 2-3 cashiers, forcing customers to go the dehumanizing self-checkout line. Whatever happened to customer service? If I weren't moving in a few weeks, I'd write a letter to the management. read more

I went to the Giant on Crabbs Branch tonight and was so glad that I don't shop at Safeway anymore. I spent less money, the produce was fresh and they had a cashier there after 10pm. This is my local grocery store. It's only 3 blocks from my home. Sure, it's convenient. Half the time I go then don't have the milk I want. They stopped carrying the apple juice my husband likes and I can't get them to re shelve it. There never seems to be enough check out people but the ones that are there are very nice and friendly. I've known them for years. They know there's not enough checkers. Most of the time I check myself out even when I have a lot of things but the check out scale is so sensitive that an employee always has to clear me. Sometimes up to 5 times during the check out process. A few months ago they rearranged the whole store and I'm not the only one who walks up and down the aisles saying, "Where the hell did they put the damn______?!?" The employees in the meat dept are always willing to help you find good meats. They love to make suggestions. Produce is acceptable except for the small artichokes they call large and charge you as such. I'll keep going but I can't say it's not frustrating. read more

I have lived in this community for about eleven years now, and have seen first hand the decline in customer service at this Safeway location. It used to be a joy to do my grocery shopping here but now unless I need something such as water right away then I drive a bit further to the Giant grocery store on Crabbs Branch way about five minutes away. The big reason for this decline in service is the severe cuts in staffing at this location as you are almost lucky to find two check out lines open (they need to take a look at Giant where they always have at least four lines and maybe even more)! Even the express self checkout lines are sometimes closed, and half the times some of them are out of service (whats the point)! In years past whenever you would mention the long lines to a manager at this Safeway then they were quick to open a new line however for the past two years with the new managers now all they do is throw their shoulders up in the air and say that I should complain to corporate as their hands are tied (which I have but all you get is the usual lip service and apology with nothing being changed). So take heed if you don't mind waiting for a long time in check out lines then go ahead but as for me I will continue to take my business to Giant! read more
