I've been coming to this store a couple times a week for the last couple years.. My last recent events in which I needed a cake for my daughters birthday and then again tonight for a baby shower Roise in the bakery is above and beyond with ensuring I was a satisfied customer... Do NOT come to this deli!!! The ladies making the sandwiches were insanely slow, barely spoke English and were rude when helping me. Maybe I wouldn't be pissed off if you didn't take 18 years to make a sandwich that should take less than 5 minutes. read more

Great prices, close to home. Just very poorly designed. Cars filling up at the front pumps are situated too close to the store. They end up almost blocking the exit as it is a one-way drive-thru. To leave, you have to strategically swing your car around and drive through a narrow gap between the front cars filling up and the station store front. You have to drive so close to the store, the door sensors detect your car going by and automaticaly opens the glass doors. Just an accident waiting to happen. Someone walking out of the store, will get hit by a car leaving the pumps. Gas here is sometimes cheaper by 10 cents over some of the other local stations. You have to swipe your Safeway card to get the 3 cent discount, then your credit card, so it takes a while to start pumping. Even with 18 pumps, there can be a wait especially on a Friday afternoon. My understanding is that Safeway buys off-brand gas from local refineries and passes on the wholesale discount, similar to what Costco does. read more

Imagine my surprise when I went to toast a newly purchased English muffin and found The Whole package moldy! This is not the first time this has happened to me. I had just spent $200 on gift cards and thought it would be nice to have a warm, buttered English muffin today so I purchased a package in good faith. Had to throw the whole package out. I could not believe this. Since I had not kept my receipt, I will not return even tho I an just down the hill from the store. I don't need the grief on this rainy morning. But I will go down the hill to Target from now on. read more

Horrible store. They are slow and only talk to the people that they see all the time. I ordered a sandwich from there and the lady that was helping me stopped to itch her head over my sandwich than washed her hands to make my sandwich. It's one thing to step back but something else to stand right there. Sadly this is the only Safeway close to my job but every time it's the same horrible headache. This is my neighborhood grocery store. A 15 minute stroll gets me there, and I do love running and walking so this was a dream come true when we purchased our house in this area. It is airy, clean, and the people working there are very nice. There is a bakery, deli and hot foods area, floral department, nut bar, sushi station, Starbucks, and Jamba Juice all rolled into a 24 hour shopping heaven. Some people hate self checkout, but I love it because I can bag things the way I want bagged and not have to worry that someone is going to single bag a bunch of glass bottles or cans, put something heavy on top of my bread or eggs, or just mix up things that shouldn't be mixed up. Just like the aisles, things need to be grouped. Call me OCD, but produce should be bagged with other produce, meat with meat (especially since sometimes they aren't wrapped tightly and leak), dairy with their brethren, cans with cans, etc. I'm sure you get my point by now. Group and proceed is what I love, and a pet peeve of mine is when things get thrown together when they clearly are not related at all. So yes, I'm a self checker outer. Outside they have a gas station so it's a blessing for most people who live in this area of Gale Ranch and Windemere as another one can't be found unless you go the opposite direction of Bollinger Canyon Road which turns into Dougherty Road. It would be nice if there were more pumps as I see a lot of backup and frustrated drivers waiting there so it's more of an inconvenience for my husband when he fills up as I usually run/walk there for groceries. You can get a gas reward/discount if you shop a certain amount (I think over $100). Just make sure you have a Safeway club card so they can issue your reward(s) to you (free membership that just tracks your purchases). I think the reward is 10 cents off per gallon so you do save if you have a larger vehicle. Now to the hellish parts: a price mistake in almost every receipt so check twice or even thrice. Expired food so I've brought some to show the management so they would take it off the shelf. But hey it's open 24 hours, and it is close to where I live so I do continue to shop there often. I've never had a problem with getting a refund as long as you show them a copy of your "Just 4 U" (their online loyalty program which you can add onto your Safeway club card) printout, the local Safeway ad, or bring them to the aisle where the wrong price is posted. The problem with getting the refund is that the customer service representative or manager is usually incognito. So keep that in mind if you have to pick up your kid(s) at school. I've had to come back the next day sometimes because the person never showed up or was on break or maybe lost in space. I just keep forgiving Safeway like an old habit or an old boyfriend. It sucks to train them, but Safeway is the most convenient thing there is for where I live. I guess it's a love and hate relationship. Please Safeway, just get your act together. I would love seeing you again without all this baggage. And thanks for taking my coupons as I think I allow you only to make a minuscule amount of profit, break even or maybe even lose a little money when I shop there. I hope you don't feel used or like a cheap date. I'll be back again soon I promise. Thank you very much for always being open 24-7 to let me use you. read more

I'm open to revising my review over the next few months as they "get the kinks out", but for now I have to give it 3 stars. It is awesome to have a development like this so close to our place. I think the plaza itself looks really nice (despite the lame lettering on the plaza signage) with its palm trees and lighting. I also love the gas station - best prices around. But the store itself falls short for such a nice building. I can't really comment on the employees as I haven't had too bad of an experience with them, but the STOCK is a problem. They always seem to be out of key things. I'm not talking about being out of truffles or galanga. I'm talking about being out of basil, orange juice, oreida fries, bread, etc. And the fish just isn't that good. So maybe it is just about growing pains. Hopefully this isn't the final state. read more

I truly do not like this Safeway, sadly it's close to my home and I will promised myself I will try other places. I call this one 'the store of misfit clerks' they are unhelpful to say the least. Love the fact that I said something to two of the baggers as they stood there laughing, asking them 'why am I bagging my groceries while you are standing there ?' They just stood there looking at my like I had three heads and the checker said nothing. But what should I expect? Last event was through the self service line. Guess there is a ban on over the counter drugs. When I scanned it, the chime went on. I was told this item is not allowed in self check out since it contains alcohol (which by the way is not on the label) I asked where is that stated. The clerk just pointed to the 'no alcohol beverages allowed' and I told her this not not a beverage. She just said if I had a problem 'I could talk to the store manager.' No help at all; seems to be the clerks answer to all issues they can not or do not want to deal with. If you need to go to that Safeway, I recommend based upon in the collection of misfit clerks there, go to another Safeway or better yet, a different grocery chain where they want your business. read more

After several more fabulous cakes since my last review, I wanted to write an update for Karen who continues to rock. We followed her to Dublin Tassajara Safeway when she was moved there and were so glad when she was brought back to SanRamon Safeway. She is such a generous person- with her time, skill and patience. She really went out of her way to make each and every cake extra special and unique(fabulous purse cake for my sister and some fun cakes for my husband) and we have ordered sooooo many cakes this past year. We really felt her absence when we had to order a cake for my daughter's birthday elsewhere since she was on vacation during that time. She responded to my desperate texts and gave her suggestions. Went to a couple of other safeways but it was so clear that "she" made the difference. Planning to give her a list of occasions and beg her to plan her vacation around those :) My sister and I love her and are glad she works nearby. Always a pleasure to interact with her!!! Safeway should realize and appreciate what a fabulous employee they have and that she has a dedicated following. read more

They have a lot of stuff here yes, but sometimes there's too much piled into the store. I've had a lot of things end up being expired, some of the staff is rude, the carts are terrible to move around. They also need to open up more registers during busy hours because I cannot tell you how many times I've waited in a line of 10 or more people for like half an hour because it's the only register open. I've actually just ended up leaving a number of times because the wait was completely ridiculous. read more

I like this Safeway better than others. Very clean and bright. Lots of food selections. They even have a sushi bar where you can dine in. Cool! Good customer service. Easy parking access. The greatest thing is that they have a gas station. If you have safeway card, you get 3cents off per gallon when you pump the gas. Going to this safeway has become my routine stop every week. read more

Julian from the floral department was amazing! I needed a bouquet on 5/12 ASAP and gave him a certain amount of money to create an arrangement for me. It was my daughter's favorite, among the 5 others she received from her performance in a play, and I couldn't have been more pleased with Julian's professionality and creativity in designing this arrangement. Such a great asset to a local grocer. You all have to come visit him! read more

I have come here on occasion as my daughters best friend lives close by. The staff are always incredibly nice. This Saturday I was with my teen age son and I made the mistake of taking a small cart as we were only supposed to get a few things we ended up with a small cart a bit overflowing. My son was helping us back and he placed a bag with three glass teas on top, the second I noticed I went to grab the bag but I was too late one of the teas rolled onto the floor. I was mortified, tea and glass went everywhere. Three staff members came over immediately and we all worked to clean it up but I think they could tell I was mortified as they tried to make light of the situation and could not have been nicer. Accidents happen in all retailers, and hopefully it is rare, but how a retailer responds really demonstrates their strength in customer service. The staff here at this Safeway is the best I have encountered. I will try to shift more of my shopping here. read more

holy cow! jamba juice, starbucks, AND sushi bar inside?! NEED I SAY MORE?!?! only in the suburbs, man, only in the suburbs.

I normally go in here to get a smoothie since I have a friend who works at the Jamba Juice. Today I was just standing there and talking to him while he was closing and was gonna hang with him once he was done with his shift. Then someone just walked up to me and said I had to leave. I just thought he meant to leave him alone until he finishes working, so I moved by the door. But then he told me I had to leave the premises. They never gave me an explanation and when I asked why they simply said the manager said I had to leave. Like I would understand to leave him alone if it was open and there was a line. But he was closing and I've done this before with many other friends at other places, including this place. My friends and I have been dealing with this uptight manager since jr. High. She is the antichrist on young adults who want to buy Starbucks or Jamba juice and hang around her store. So I had to wait outside for 20 minutes before my friend could leave read more

a friend of mine fell in your store back in oct of 2010 and she was not treated like an injired customer should be treated, she was told by the clames adjuster that they did not cary insurence for things like this so there was nothing safeway could do to help her . so now she has a few thousands of dollars in medical bills that need to be paid. where is your human compasion? read more
