I found out the hard way that most restaurants are closed even on the morning of Thanksgiving day. Which, by the way, I totally respect! That being said, I ended up getting lucky and finding the best breakfast burrito that I've had in quite some time, at Saffron Bakery. The price value was great and it came with a side of fruit. Although the menu does not accurately depict what's inside the "wrap", it exceeded my expectations. It was full of potatoes, avocado, almost any meat you'd like, and a plentiful amount of eggs. There's also a side of homemade hot sauce, which was flavorful and just the right amount of kick to it. Do yourself a favor and pass on all the local "favorites" and eat at Saffron. read more

This bakery is an absolute gem for our city (AV). Darius and his wife work extremely hard to put out good food. The pastries are not overly sweet and, though my wife and I are health-conscious, we don't feel bad getting our cheats here. The bread is made daily, and they've got a full breakfast and lunch menus (sandwiches are amazing). Probably some of the best stuff I've had (banana bread, apple pie, and even a chocolate cake I had made for my wife). read more

We are in town for a few days visiting family and this place is close to the hotel. Saw they had great ratings so figured we would give it a go. The place did not disappoint! Coffee was good, which was the main objective but we also got a Belgian waffle and the breakfast croissant. Everything was made fresh and was excellent! The saffron cake here is my absolute favorite! It's moist, not too sweet, and has the perfect blend of subtle sweetness and floral fragrance!! Its amazing with tea! I love it so much I ordered a big version for my birthday, and it came beautifully decorated with pistachios, roses, and even a butterfly. Everyone at the party wanted to know where it was from. It was so hard to choose between everything, all the pastries were beautiful and mouthwatering, a focus on croissant dough. All of their sandwiches come with their amazingly fresh and tender breads: breakfast sandwich was on a fresh, flaky croissant, the chicken pesto was on a perfectly baked fresh French loaf, and the burger was on a huge brioche bun!! I am very sad to write this review. I would like to start out by saying I LOVE everything I have purchased here. I have tried their Pistachio Paris Brest, signature Saffron cake, cinnamon rolls, cookies and various other pastries. Everything flaky, buttery, and perfectly sweet! Their Sourdough bread is wonderful and second only to the artisanal BREAD bakery in Santa Ana. Their Focaccia bread hands down the best I have ever had. All the staff are wonderful, kind, helpful and welcoming. This was my favorite local bakery and I was sad to leave it when I moved out of state. But good news, I come back often for work and I am always happy to stop by and pick up something yummy! Here comes the sadness... I am in town and ordered a 10 inch fruit tart for a work birthday. My staff member specifically requested a fruit tart. I called on Sunday and ordered it for pick up on Tuesday at 11AM. When I got there at 11:15 they did not have the tart. Instead they offered me individual tarts at a discount which was close to the cost I was quoted for a whole tart. I was shocked that no one contacted me to let me know my order would not be ready. I was very disappointed and had to scramble at the last minute to find an inferior substitute which also made me late to the event. It should also be noted that the staff was apologetic and the owner called me twice and left apologetic messages offering to make it up to me. But the damage was done. The trust is broken. So, I would say if you are in the area stop by and pick up something for yourself, but if you do place an order for a future special occasion or planned event, follow up and confirm. Also, give yourself more time than I did in case something goes wrong. read more

Found this place a few months ago and it's become a regular stop for me now. My favorite thing there is definitely the Kouign-amann pastry! It's like a muffin shaped croissant that's crunchy and caramelized on the bottom- amazing. Also love the ham & cheese/turkey & cheese croissants & cinnamon rolls!! We had a great experience dining at Saffron Bakery today. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about their food and the ingredients they use are all organic. We had eggs Benedict, croissant breakfast sandwich and pastries to take home. The coffees both hot and cold were equally good. I highly recommend Saffron Bakery and look forward to returning. Most weekends I'm craving a quiche from Saffron. So much tastier and better as well as less expensive than one we recently tried at a newer French bakery (chain) that opened in the area. Saffron's quiche was not dry and just tasted better overall. We also love their strawberry pastries and breads! My family are definitely fans! Sweet people too! read more

No joke I ate the entire thing over the course of the next day...has olives and tomatoes and a little garlic. I ate it cold but I'm sure it would be a hundred times better heated too. The chocolate croissant was also large and tasty. Again, should've heated it, but who has time for that! Very buttery. Not too heavy on the chocolate so if you don't want a chocolate overload this is perfect. The owner is friendly and helpful! Saffron Bakery just opened up about a month ago, and I was excited to try a new bakery! It's a small bakery with a simple and clean interior. I was greeted right away by staff and they were very friendly. I noticed that several of the pastry options weren't yet placed in the case ~7:45am, which was a slight bummer because I would have loved to try the Coconut pastry and would have gotten cheesecake for later. I ordered several pastries. My favorites were the strawberries and cream pastry and the guava cheese danish. The pastries were flaky, the cream cheese filling was well balanced, and both the guava filling and the fresh Strawberries were delicious. The cinnamon roll had a nice buttery, cinnamon flavor with caramelized edges, but the roll itself was actually a bit sunken and dense inside (maybe something went wrong with the proofing of the dough?). The almond croissant had a yummy almond filling but was fairly dark on the top and somewhat dry, so it seemed a bit overbaked. The chocolate croissant had a good amount of chocolate filling, but there was a really big air gap in the middle and wasn't as flaky as I would have liked. I didn't actually try the Peach Danish because I gave that to someone else, but it looked tasty. Overall I think there could be some adjustments on some of the bakes but I did enjoy the flavors! read more
